It is the exception to EVERYTHING. If the Exalt has to fucking fly backwards a mile or two to dodge the explosion, they will.

Defense trumps offense. A perfect defense defeats any kind of attack. Even attacks that would kill a solar outright, destroy his soul, deprive him of magic, or make him non-awesome.

The text from Heavenly Guardian Defense says "perfectly defends against any attack". This is an attack. I can block it.

I was thinking about playing exalted just a little while ago. But the thing was, I wanted to play a mortal, with awakened essence at most.

Cause while any solar can be AWESOME and save creation in an epic struggle that carved a path across the land out of dead behemoths and the thousands of women he's seduced along the way, a mortal could do the same thing, if he was really smart and very careful.

And at the end of the day, he could say he did it all without perfect defenses and giant phallic daiklaives and world-shattering sorcery. That would be my kind of challenge.

Like much of Exalted's best fluff, it's open-ended, mainly for ST purposes, also because the game creators can't always wrap their minds around what they're talking about in Exalted.

Some have speculated it is one of the Primordials.

Others that it is Creation itself, being played as a game.

Certainly, it seems to be addictive enough that only the Primordials could play it without growing almost entirely lax in their duties in Creation. Unlike the Incarnae, who have given up their jobs to play WoW.
