That being said, I know many players who enjoy having things forced down their throat, especially stories.

OP here. Thanks to everyone for the advice. I guess I should roll with it and see if the party is actively looking for more lighthearted fun or just rolling with it once he busts out the one-liners. Marco was a good character as seen through nostalgia goggles. He made jokes to deflect the fact that his mother was the leader of a group of evil aliens that wanted to kill him, and that everyone he knew had a high chance of dying. While the nostalgia goggles prevent me from accurately reflecting on it, but that's a good trait. Black humour being used to hide someone's true feelings, and the fact that they're likely to die, and face such a horrible fate on a daily basis.
