Excerpts from On The Lords Of The Sky, unknown author:

"...for it is Them who rule this Earth from Above: They, who were once Mortals, took to the hallowed Skies with Unearthly power, when the World was young, and made the Skies Theirs..."

"...boisterous and merry, the Scarred One welcomes any and all Challengers, rejoicing in honest Battle; He bears no will towards anyone, even His most bitter enemies..."

"...even now, the Priests of the Nameless travel through the Whole of Usea, their faces always hidden from Strangers. Like their Master, they offer sage Advice to every Man in this World, driving them towards Greateness..."

"The Eternal, unstoppable as Death itself, is worshiped by almost all Men, and even the flock of the other Lords of the Sky render due Homage unto Him, for the Eternal selflessly braved countless Dangers in the name of Justice. In memory of his Deeds, courthouses bear the Symbol of the Eternal, a Ribbon with only one Side..."

"..but that would not be the End of the Burning Phantom, He who was once a dark Demon and rained Death upon the Land; no, he would return once more, as a great Hero, when the time was right..."

"The Demon Lord, praised and reviled across the Land, appears in three forms in the legends: that of a savage, hellish Warrior, the literal Demon Lord represented in the Belkan tragedies; that of a cold-hearted Soldier, who sacrificed Innocents in the name of Duty, the Demon Lord that manipulated the denizens of Hell at his own Whim; and that of a brave Knight, protector of the Meek and Savior of the World, Demon Lord by Right of Conquest over Hades..."

"...for in the halls of the Golden King there is a magnificent painting of his Nation's protector: The Winged One, the Bearer of the Talisman, at the vanguard of a Host of Light, charging towards the jaws of Death..."

"...the Southern Cross is the name given to those four Stars; in Southern myth, they are the emblem of their greatest Warrior, Nemesis of the Evil that once scoured the World, for whom lies are Anathema..."

They say the Demon Lord had a companion: a one-winged fairy, always sitting at his shoulder. Despite his diminutive size, he was almost the equal of the Demon Lord in martial prowess - and in some obscure legends, he even challenges his friend in single combat, a bittersweet duel the Demon Lord barely wins.

Like the actual Ace Combat setting, it's just an alternate Earth, no supernatural events involved. And more than setting building, this thread was more to bounce around this "the events of AC as mythology for another world" I've had for some time.

That being said, you could make this Fantasy Ace Combat by giving everyone access to winged cavalry and air units of all sorts (the aforementioned griffons and wyverns, drakes, unicorns, hippogriffs, floating islands for superships, etc.)

I've got no idea of what kind of system would it take to run it, though - modern air combat games are niche enough as it is, and this is even more off the wall.

From the Chronicle of Forgotten Arms, by Gennette the Scribe:

"The Fandi Fictor was said to have been sent to Earth as punishment for humanity's sins, but it is not natural to expect men to stand still against utter destruction. Thus, they forged many great weapons of steel and thunder and fire, that they may avoid their fate; but while the world was not destroyed, the Fandi Fictor scarred the land horribly, as testament to the wrath of Heaven; and men of dark hearts used the sacred weapons for their own petty purposes. So begins this chronicle."

The whole poem from the game might work:
"When history witnesses a great change Razgriz reveals itself.
    First as a dark demon.
As a demon it uses it power to rain death upon the land, and then it dies.
However after a period of slumber Razgriz returns.

As the demon sleeps, man turns on man.
Its own blood, and madness soon cover the earth.
From the depths of despair awaken the Razgriz.
Its raven wings ablaze in majestic light.

Amidst the eternal waves of time.
From a ripple of change shall the storm rise.
Out of the abyss peer the eyes of a demon.
Behold the Razgriz, its wings of black sheath.

The demon soars through the dark skies.
Fear and Death trail its shadow beneath.
Until Men united wield a hallowed sabre.

Ace Combat = Advanced Aerial Warfare + Epic War Mythos.

The protagonists get referred to in such a way that they sound like legends from a long lost age.

Demon Lord of the Round Table

    The Sleeping King

    God of The Sky

    The Grim Reaper

    Demons of Razgriz

It's vestements lie hidden underneath the sand and it's terrible weapon that only it can weild lies in the deepest tunnel of the dead lands, hidden well by it's undead masters.

For 'rule of cool' you have /tg/'s own Dive in the Sky homebrew game. It was originally based on the Strike Witches anime, but it can work with anything using air combat.

Know this then, Gryphus was born to a peaceful land, then beset by war by a neighbour whose bloodthirst had been borne out of plague and famine. They unleashed a score of evils to his peaceful land, and so Gryphus took up the Southern Cross and did battle with those foes.

First he fought against the Gleipnir, giant and invisible, and with a single one of it's ten fingers, whole hosts could be blotted out, and it's lance of light could pierce even the strongest of armours.

But Gryphus cared not, and nimbly danced between the shafts of light, and with a single swing of his weapon, broke each turret one by one.

And as the turrets fell silent, the furious enemy tried to destroy the tower outright with their siege weapons, but Gryphus cast their stones and bolts out of the very sky with his blade and seeing the day was lost, the enemy turned craven and fled.

They fought over land, and over sea, and in a cave in the straights of Danern they found the Kings stockpile of ancient fire magic.

When they finally faced the dark lord in the fortress of Archelon, he was flanked by the Knights of Alect.
Each who rode the dogs of Fenrir, abominations that granted invisibility to themselves and their riders. The knights fell upon Gryphus's men and exacted a grievious toll, but the hero saw their weakness, for in the moment of their attack they became as clear as day, and in that single moment of chance, he slew each knight one by one.

Seeing their knights defeated, in the end the people of Lesanth turned on their king and tore him into a hundred pieces.

Traditional song sung as an exiled person regains his honor and returns to the village in the country of Osea

    Attributed to Oka Nieba

    ---

    The journey begins
    Starts from within
Things that I need to know

    The song of the bird
    Echoed in words
Flying for the need to fly

    Thoughts endless in flight
    Day turns to night
    Questions you ask your soul

    Which way do I go?
    How fast is too slow?
The journey has its time within us

If a man can fly over an ocean
And no mountains can get in his way
    Will he fly on forever
    Searching for something to believe

From above I can see from the heavens
Down below I see the storm rages on
    And somewhere in the answer
There is a hope to carry on

    When I finally return
    Things that I learn
    Carry me back to home

    The thoughts that I feed
    Planting a seed
With time will begin to grow

    The more that I try
    The more that I fly
The answer in itself will be there

    Also, I revised >>2747839 a little. It's not much.

"Know that there are traitors in every host in the land, and you shall know them by their number: which is 8472.
Hidden upon their person shall be the forbidden name of Grabacr, and in their hearts is naught but loyalty to the dead kings of the dead land, once known as 'Belka'."

So long can we keep bumping this before it deletes itself? And does this update the archived thread on sup/tg/?

    >As for AC2, someone needs to write about the Scarred One and his Twin Birds of Death, but I'm too tired now to do it.

And how one of them has the same name as one of the pilots in AC 5, or pilot of the president in AC4? Or is the cheesecake idol for RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAAAAAAAAAAAACER?
(though that last one's a bit of a stretch I'll grant you.)

We got about 50 posts left before autosage and it keeps updating the archive.

Also they used real world Satellite Photography in part to build the world

IIRC Nagase shows up in even AC3, though a few decades older (it's the 2040s, after all), and she actually works for the bad guys.

So next on the list of things to do is an epic on the house of Nagase?
