I finished the Flatland game I posted a few months ago.

Very simple rule system. There's a playtest going on here for anyone that wants to try it out:

    An NPC.

And that's about it. Like I said, anyone interested should come over to the playtest. I'll be there until about 4 pm EST.

    Angle: 0
    Durability: Infinite

Except you'd need an infinite number of sides for them t exist, so they're not possible.
    >> Flatland RPG A. Square 10/05/08(Sun)13:18 No.2741685
    >Durability: Infinite

Actually, Circles are just as fragile as any other Shape. Perhaps moreso. That's why they have to ensure that the masses of Triangles don't revolt.

I agree with the Angle, though. Maybe 1 instead of 1d6 for angle damage.

Bump for a unique and individual idea.
    >> Flatland RPG A. Square 10/05/08(Sun)14:14 No.2741962
We had an idea for "leveling up".

At the end of each session, each player flips a coin (or rolls a 4-6 on a d6, whatever). If they call it correctly, they get a +2 bonus on all future rolls for performing one specific action that they successfully performed during that game.

    Good idea? Terrible?
    >> Anonymous 10/05/08(Sun)14:25 No.2742025
    >>2741962

It can lead to players encountering some odd little discrepancies especially in long term play.
    >> Flatland RPG A. Square 10/05/08(Sun)16:20 No.2742640
Well, the first playtest was a lot of fun. We had an upstanding Pentagon, a Triangle guard, and an Irregular criminal.

The Durabilities seem kind of low- with an average roll of 3.5 on a d6, a 2d6-angled Shape will instakill a Square 50% of the time.

Also, there were some suggestions for customizing new characters. The best idea was to give starting Shapes +3 bonus points to divide between skills, so a new Square could have skills like this:

    Mathematics +2
    Politeness +1

When the Square wants to perform a calculation, he rolls 3d6 (Brains) and adds +2 to the result.
    >> Flatland RPG A. Square 10/05/08(Sun)16:22 No.2742658
    >>2742640

At the end of each session, the player would have a 50% chance of getting another +1 bonus to a skill (depending on what they did during the game session).

Shouldn't brains and angle be the same thing?

Presume it would only be for the next game.

Brains and Angle are inversely related in Flatland. That's why the Triangles with the sharpest points are also the dumbest.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Having more Angle dice means you have a more acute angl. You roll your Angle dice to attack another Shape and subtract your roll from their Durability.

A Triangle with 2d6 Angle isn't as pointy as one with 4d6 Angle.

Well, I deleted the original link. Here's a new version of the pdf with the changes we made from the playtest:

Also, there are stats on Circles, since one of the players asked for them.

Needs some maps of government buildings and the like. You could use traditional overhead maps from other RPGs, but those are usually rectangular rooms- it seems like most of the buildings in Flatland are designed as pentagons, etc.

Also, there need to be special sections/entrances for the Women and the Triangles.

    Hey, my thread!

    >Needs some maps

I agree. Although I can't promise to keep any promises I make, I'll try to come up with a couple of maps. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, and for the rest of your- waitaminnit.

    Scratch that last part.

Maps are forthcoming. And for anyone else that's dl'd the rulebook, is there anything glaring that you'd like to see fixed/added? I know there should probably be a list of sample skills to kickstart players' imaginations... Anyone who's read the book (or can think of some good Victorian classism skills) should post before this thread gets too decrepit.
