    146 KB Vampire Anonymous 10/28/08(Tue)23:09 No.2900429
Okay, so I'm planning on running a Vampire: the Masquerade game. First thing's first, I got the bright idea to interview everyone in private first without telling them it's going to be a Vampire game, so I can designate clans to each of them based on how their character idea is presented to me and how they generally act while in-character.

I'm now in need of some help to come up with NPCs to populate the college campus the majority of their sessions will be centered in. It's a large campus with a night class schedule as complete as the day class schedule, based loosely around my university.

At the moment, the only set NPC ideas I have are a few janitors who're ghouls to a Nosferatu living in the basement level of the Comp-Sci building, and serve as his eyes and ears in the halls and buildings above him, and an English Teacher who is a Malkavian who's in love with a cadaver, one of several used to teach med students anatomy and such, in the freezers in the campus anatomy/medical center and is utterly convinced that she loves him back. He brings her flowers every week and engages in meaningful conversation with her.

I'm also thinking there's a Ventrue as one of the higher-ups, and maybe a Gangrel who's a football coach that trains the team at night.

The players are basically newly-embraced outsiders sent by the Prince of a nearby city to prove their worth to the Camarilla by being gofers and coffee-boys to the vamps already set up.

Any NPC ideas or issues with logistics for the character concepts/setting I'll need to work out?

OP, please don't assign clans according to stereotypes.

I think the idea of having them make mortals first and is interesting, but it'll only be good if you base your clan choice according to which NPC chooses which PC and not "hmm this guy likes animals so he'll be a Gangrel and this guy is a businessman so he'll be a Ventrue".

Not really. A World of Darkness game says to me "Hey, it's a game about being a scared ass dude in the middle of shit he can't understand, ill-equipped with only his wits to keep him afloat."

Not "You're a Vampire now. Do whatever the Prince says for your adventures."

There is a MASSIVE difference in gameplay and tone, and without that knowledge of what's going to happen, you run a serious risk of pissing some people off.

A surprise is like you losing some merits, or some unexpected twists and turns. Not a gameline jump.

    >>2900581

No worries, I'm not planning on assigning them based on stereotype. I'm going to be going over a few things with their character concept to figure out what circles they'd be involved with, what possible contact they could have with the World of Darkness supernaturals, what traits they have that a particular vamp might find useful in progeny, etc. etc.

Ironically, I chose to do this to make sure I wouldn't GET any Vamp stereotype characters.

It's perfectly OK to start them off as mortals and have them become vampires.

It is NOT OK to not tell the players about this.

People signing up for a WoD mortals game want to play a mortals game, not a Vampire game. People who want to play vampires sign up for Vampire games.

Be up front with your fucking players, for fuck's sake. As with relationships and sex, good communication is important if you want the game to go well.

    An NPC idea:

Take a hunter. Not a capital H Hunter with supernatural powers and shit, just your average guy who has figured a few things out and isn't going to take it lying down. He's a smart son of a bitch, though, and impressively equipped. He wears a shark suit to keep nibblers away, a HAL exoskeleton knockoff over that so he can carry a larger load, and thick platemail (of appropriate composite composition to make it bulletproof) over that. He isn't as fast as a vampire, and he can't hit as hard, but he's almost untouchable, wears a full-face helmet so the vamps can't make eye contact, and carries a heavy machine gun.

If the characters fuck up and kill the wrong person, if they start bending the rules of the masquerade, this is the person who comes calling. He built his suit in his basement, from a box of scraps, and he's already taken out a dozen vampires.

Werewolves on the football team, 2-4 of them. They're all there on scholarships (they use RAGE for pulling off insane sports plays), and they fight amongst themselves constantly. They are relatively unsupervised by a higher authority (nearest Cairn is in the next town over), and thus pick on each other in response to tribal politics. If the players come to blows with them, it should be after some massive infighting on their part, so that they don't have to take on a full-strength werewolf. Give them all majors based upon tribe/auspice. Or stereotype them based on tribes (GoF jock, CoG stoner, Fiana headbanger, BF feminist).

Also, he can compromise by having people make concepts first, THEN telling them they're going to be playing Vampire before the game starts so anyone who is very opposed to it can pull out.

    >>2900655
Hmm, so you're going to assign clan based on the mortal characters (which makes sense), but who will the sires be? Are you going to have those NPC's fleshed out too? I'd have those NPCs ready too so you know which players would be chosen by which sires (due to needs, interests, whatever of the sires, which depends on those mortal PCs).

That's the way I'd do it, if you're going to have sires from/in the original city.

I don't want this to feel overly complicated, but...

Your main game (for now) is focused on this college campus, yes? But the Prince and all the sires and such will be in another city.

Chances are, if the campus story arc goes well, they're going to head over to that city. So basically, while I don't want you to do too much work, it might be a good idea to sketch out OtherCity, its NPCs, its politics, and maybe even some potential plots. That way, when you start this game, you have NPC sires to connect to your PCs in a logical way. And then once this arc is over, if you want to keep going, you can do the next logical step and bring them to the other city for which they've proven themselves.

    >>2900753
Next you're going to say that a Gangrel accountant doesn't make any sense!

    Something like this?

    Professor Samuel Billings
    -Toreador
-Firmly entrenched in the belief that the US should still be a British colony, as he was Embraced around the Revolutionary War era
    -Extremely pessimistic
-Unintentionally insults people due to a great grasp of English
-Studies world languages as a hobby, holds strongly to the idea that math is the "universal language" and is enamored of it
-Fluent in hundreds of languages, only shows off about 10 of them to preserve appearance even though "you only need to speak something other than English to impress a bloody Yank."

Seriously where is the point in feminism anymore? It's obvious most of unnecessary shit towards women is gone in most civilized countries, and the ones it isn't the fem-nazi's aren't concerning themselves with and if they were acting like that in them they would be stoned to death.

Also if you want things equal why call it "feminism"? why not all it equalism or something that doesn't sound like you are JUST trying to get women to be be considered better than men?

My best friend is a woman, as I see it human is human and neither is better than the other and have weaknesses and strengths and as long as things are generally equal everything's good.

Seriously I also don't get how feminists always rage about stay at home moms.

Right there they are calming that being a devoted mother isn't as important as doing some kind of bullshit business corporate job.

    I think the crazy feminists

Feminists are also likely to be pro-gay rights and generally pro-equally. Shit, feminists care more about men getting prison-raped and everyone cracking jokes about it than men do.

Yeah, but someone who keeps talking about how awesome they are as a vampire and bearing their teeth in public, giving off basically the "trenchcoat katana-wielder" vibe, would be a laughingstock of everybody, and nobody would believe him to be a real vampire even if he was a ghoul. Pretty much hiding a wolf right in front of the sheep by painting him the wrong color, or some other analogy that actually works.

-Is never seen without an Anne Rice book
-Is obsessed with vampires and has a list of teachers that she believes are

-Intentionally insults people who annoy him in obscure languages
-Studies world languages as a hobby, holds strongly to the idea that math is the "universal language" and is enamored of it
-Fluent in over 20 languages, only shows off about 10 of them to preserve appearance even though "you only need to speak something other than English to impress a bloody Yank."

-Embraced maybe 20 years prior, youngest non-player vampire on campus

    Janitor: Emilio Cortez

I have an idea for the Prince, just because I want to see an NPC in a Vamp game do this.

Say he saw Star Wars when it first came out, a while after he'd first immigrated to the country. He decided he really liked Vader's style, so now, in regards to his ghouls and other mortals, when he's pissed at them or they fail them, he uses Dominate to force-choke the bitches and quotes lines from Star Wars while doing so, in addition to his usual chastisements.
