I'm afraid of suggesting the wrong choice, so I'll just let the others decide. Though, it would be nice if we had the letter opener right about now... but going back to retrieve it would probably make him press one of the unwanted buttons out of frustration.

So, now that the adventure's over, how about some post-adventure discussion?

What was everyone's favorite scene or puzzle? I've got a feeling the monster's reveal will probably take this title for most people, so if so, second favorite?

Seriously though that scene where The Monstrous Thing appears was fucking terrifying and awesome in every possible sense. And the blood effects were goddamn amazing.

I can't get over those blood effects.

You awaken lying on your back in the dark. Above your head you see a red light. You have no idea how you got here. Feeling in your pockets, you find something metallic with a rubber grip. You reach for the red thing, and it turns out to be the button that turns on the lights.

You can now see that you are lying in a coffin-sized cell, and that you are Ruby. Ruby grabs a handle, and some small vent holes open. She yells, but gets no response other than her echo. There's some buttons in there too. She presses the purple one, and the top of her cell opens.

Climbing out, Ruby finds herself in a small room containing a barrel, a computer terminal, a door access panel, a sliding door (closed), another coffin like hers, and a barred shaft in the floor.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/08(Thu)15:36 No.3198338
    >>3198286
Ruby finds herself unable to do anything with the barrel, so she goes to mess with the other coffin. It's got a digital lock and seems to be shut tight. The thing in her pocket turned out to be a can opener, and she uses it on the barrel to find a few small pieces of BARE ELECTRICAL WIRE. Examining the control panel by the door, she finds that while it is broken, a person with a bit of wire could do it good.

Ruby turns her attention to the computer terminal, typing "open locker". The locker clicks. She notices two small coins on top of it, pockets them, and opens it. Inside is a pair of rubber (work?) gloves. Ruby dons the gloves for safety, repairs the door controls, and screws the door control panel back together with the coins as screwdrivers. The UP ARROW button on the panel lights. She presses it.

The door slowly raises. Looking down, Ruby sees her body being bathed in blue light. On the other side of the door is....

WATER! Behind glass, luckily. Through the window she can see fishes and a placard reading 017. Into the computer terminal, Ruby types OPEN ACCESS SHAFT 017. With a clank, the bars blocking the shaft in the floor slide away. She climbs down the shaft.

The room below is about the same size as the one she came from, but it's divided across the middle from floor to ceiling by a tough metal grille. On Ruby's size is a little fish tank with a small treasure chest and some fish inside, and a small sliding door in the wall labeled Z-HATCH. On the other side is an arc of five buttons on the wall, some kind of pull-handle on the ceiling, and a little pile of junk.

Ruby introduces herself to the guy on the other side of the grating. He responds and introduces himself as Tom, but doesn't say much else. Ruby asks what the statue at his feet (the pile of junk) is, and
    > Tom explains that this is his Opus, titled "The Room is Boring". It appears to consist of a TIN CAN, a LETTER-OPENER, and a METAL PLATE with screws on its four corners.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/08(Thu)15:56 No.3198433
    >>3198368
Ruby asks Tom about the buttons, and he tells her that they are buttons. He's only tried the middle one. Ruby spends a moment thinking while she fishes the tiny chest out of fish tank, then asks Tom for the metal plate from his Opus (the other pieces are a can and a letter opener), tells him to press some buttons, and asks what the hatch over his head is. He refuses the plate, since it is part of art now. Also it wouldn't fit through the grille. He won't push the buttons because when he tried the middle one it shocked him. He doesn't know what the hatch is, and has never seen it open.

Ruby tells Tom she doesn't believe him about the buttons, and he is miffed, saying that's fine because he doesn't trust her either. She then asks what it says on the metal plate, but he won't tell her the magic numbers because he doesn't trust her. Ruby gives Tom a fish as a peace offering, apologizes, and says she was just jealous of his opus. He feels better, and turns it so she can see the numbers on the plate. It says, "211".

I liked Ruby's modesty. It made her more endearing.
It also took a step away from the trope that any time there's a female character, she HAS to use her gender as a means of getting what she wants, throwing away sexual favors like candy and showing her body off to every passer-by. And despite that we got a whole bunch of suggestions for her to do just that, probably by the same people who in a tabletop environment would play a female character EXACTLY LIKE THAT.
Ruby's refusal to fuck some stranger in a creepy, dangerous, and unfamiliar place is a welcome feature of the story and her character.

    >why couldn't she have used her shirt to transport items through the hatch?
Same reason she didn't take it off to begin with: she's shy, and there could be hidden cameras. She doesn't want to find out she's been caught on candid camera without her clothes on.
    Most people wouldn't.

Besides, the only way the shirt's fabric would extend far enough down the access shaft is if she ripped it up into strips, and then she'd be left topless. And even hidden cameras aside, she'd have to go back in front of Tom like that.

    Her self-consciousness is perfectly justified.

    Hell yes! Very well done.
It manages to pull of a simple yet effective use of perspective without making the characters look wonky.

Also summarizes how I feel about the tone of this whole adventure, what with the juxtaposition of cute cartoon animals and horrible, unspeakable monstrosities.

Great stuff. Though I seem to remember the bear-monster being a bit more liquefied at the time. I sort of interpreted it as a massive bundle of twisted muscle tissue, spinal cords, and nervous wound together like a big frayed snake. Sort of a human body reassembled. Great composition, though, and good linework.

You know, that makes me wonder: what's the tone going to be like for the rest of the adventure? Are we going to constantly run into unearthly horrors like that? Or will it be more of a Pyramid Head sort of thing, where it's just that one horror that keeps coming back to life? Will the bear zombie end up being unique?

The bear had a skeleton body.

    ALSO THERE WAS BLOOD EVERYWHERE

You know, the idea of her being caught on camera or having to spend the adventure topless doesn't actually seem that bad.

Still, I think it conveys the essence of the scene pretty well.
Besides it's probably much harder to draw a realistic mass of bone, muscle, sinew, and nerves than it is to draw a limp corpse.

I think the monster had less of a bear body and more of a random set of bones it surrounded by an oozing blob of blood.

Crap, you're totally right. Now that I look at it, I don't know why I drew his body the way I did - I think I was too caught up in drawing the head and forgot.

I'm curious to see Weaver make a realistic picture of one of the scenes - the fact that he can get such drama and action out of simple stick figures make me willing to bet he's an awesome drawfag.

Judging from Tom's expression in the last shot, I'd say he comes back - but I wanna see some of the other animal crossing characters as abominations. I bet Nook is the evil mastermind.

OR he's not a very good drawfag when it comes to technical ability, so he makes up for his lack of realism by emphasizing style.
Someone who can draw cartoons really well isn't necessarily any good at doing portraits or scenery or realism.

I think it would make a good premise for that, at least. What with the getting caught on cameras in compromising positions or modes of dress.

Then again I have a raging voyeurism/exposure fetish, so what do I know?

Then it's settled. Once it comes time for this idea, like all other ideas on the internet, to be completely defiled and perverted, we have a good premise.

All we need now is to find a competent writefag/drawfag.

    >I'm not all that familiar with the basic tenets of voyeurism. You're saying they can't enjoy it?
Well generally speaking the point of voyeurism is watching them without them knowing that you're watching.
If she's willingly, actively showing herself off, that's exhibitionism. But that's fine too.

But what if she's aware she's being watched, but despite her shyness and embarrassment of the situation, she reluctantly continues anyway?

at its core its still exhibitionism
    >> Anonymous 12/19/08(Fri)00:30 No.3201447
    >>3201436
But it's unwanted. Exhibitionism is about the thrill of showing off and the pleasure of being seen. If it's unwilling, does it really apply?
    >> RAWK LAWBSTAR 12/19/08(Fri)00:32 No.3201460
    >>3201447
hmm... in that case its more of a humiliation deal

    >>3201447
Unwilling exposure. Enforced nudity, forced exhibitionism.
Probably more akin to voyeurism in that the pleasure comes from the act of watching someone who doesn't want to be seen.

In any case, it would certainly make interesting 34 fodder for this subject.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/08(Fri)00:35 No.3201477
You know you should probably wait until the adventure itself is over before twisting it apart with perverted write/drawfaggotry.

Then it's agreed. Once the adventure is over we'll tear into it with all manner of perversion, primarily based around unwitting exposure.

    I'm glad we all agree.

well to the person watching, it's most definately a form of vouyerism but to the person who is exposed its only exhibitionism if they want it, otherwise its just humiliation

Either way, we can all agree it needs to be applied to Ruby as soon as possible.
    Time to find some writefags.
