    42 KB Anonymous 12/24/08(Wed)02:41 No.3235119
    Scenario:

The PCs are hired by someone to hunt down and destroy the phylactery of a specific lich that has been the area for centuries, mostly unopposed except for a few attempted heroes who weren't heroes for very long.

The twist is that that their employer is none other than the lich himself, who has gotten extremely bored with eternal "life" but has forgotten just where the hell he actually PUT his phylactery.

    Is this awesome? [y/n]

    Wizard casts "Locate Object"
Wizard tells lich employer where the phylactery is
    Party dies

No lich worth their salt would ever leave their phylactery that unprotected.

    >>3235128
The DM, expecting the wizard to use locate object makes up something about it being protected by magic. Seriously, use a bit of creativity.

    >>3235128
No one in my group is smart enough to do that, they would think "we need to find someone who can do a sort of locate spell" and everyone including the wizard will agree they should raise money to hire someone to cast it for them and off they go to raise money by wandering around in the fucking mountains fightan orcs and giants who are just so well known for stock piling gold.
    >> Inquisitor Angricus !IT5VxStGLw 12/24/08(Wed)02:47 No.3235150
It'd be interesting. Perhaps more so if the lich would be open about it, or track them then approach them when they finally found it.

DM casts "Nondetection" on phylactery CL "Too high for the wizard to beat".

I mean seriously: What kind of idiot lich wouldn't protect their phylactery from divination?

If the lich was that bored he'd probably be watching the party's progress anyways just for the sake of entertainment.

Hrm. Or maybe he just takes his phylactery back once they retrieve it, then has some one go hide it again and just follows adventurers as they try to find it. Like Survivor with more magic and death. And quality.

Perhaps the party is employed on the condition he can constantly scry upon them, and his lair is pimped out with an 80" high-def scrying pool and a Couch Of Incredibly Comfortable.

He also pulls strings to result in 'wacky' encounters throughout the campaign. Sitcoms for liches!

No, it's just this Lich finding some adventurers for an epically stupid quest and watching them in HD stuff that does it.

    fuck yeah

he probably would have shielded it against divination so it's going to be a bitch to track down. how about the lich make it known that he wants it found? or is this a game to him? it would be interesting either way.

Phylactery should be a gold coin, which the lich didn't realize that he spent on spell components.

Which is why he can't find it.
    >> Anonymous 12/24/08(Wed)09:09 No.3236217
His phylactery is actually on him, he just doesn't know it due to the wards and shit he put on it. In the end the party returns to him to tell him where it is and gets to fight him.

    - A Lich so clever that place his Dr. Phill in a random location, so even he doesn't know where is it.

    - A Lich so clever that gave his fagottery to a blue dog.

    and so on
