today marks the end of scheduled maintenance—two guys with two weeks to kill and a few hundred hours later, we're finally [mostly] done.
page loads/image downloads should be dramatically faster. until we hit 1gbps, at least. to all of my wonderful and ungrateful users: "you're welcome."
(note: there are still a few other things i'll be working on so expect intermittent downtime)
ps: thanks so much to mvb for all of the help and support.

Whatever Ruby was before, she clearly isn't NOW.

Red's reaction to her sudden violent outbursts suggests a deeper meaning, an implication of something more than just violence. It also indicates she hadn't been violent before.

Something CAUSED this, and the ramifications were more significant to what caused Ruby's violence than to her violence itself.

Whatever happened to trigger all this is more important than one it actually triggered.

I think at this point it's pretty clear Ace is just an orderly/security guard/janitor. He's an all-purpose worker and his single-mindedness suggests a devotion to some higher direction.
The real question now is "Who's giving Ace his orders?"
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)00:40 No.3388295
The only thing we've seen Ace do is fix a pipe and restrain someone after they became violent.

At best, he's an orderly. At worst, he's an automaton.
He comes after Tom and Ruby with an aggressive stance, lunges at them, tries to grab them, and later comes after them with some kind of harpoon-like... well, whatever the fuck THIS is >>3388224

Red was ("was" being the operative word). What happened to make him go insane and apparently lose what authority he had in the place? Was he insane when he killed the previous incarnation of Ruby or just disposing of a faulty model? If the later is the case, what changes were made to this newer version of Ruby?

Personally, I think this adds credence the the theory that Ace can only handle one objective at a time. For example: We know Red was terrified of Ace catching him. When Red kills himself and Ace appears for the first time, he ignores EVERYTHING except Red's corpse, which he quite gently kneels down to retrieve. Everything, including Tom, Ruby, and a bomb he may or may not have noticed. Ace is Singleminded.
Second time around, he goes straight for Ruby, unarmed, and attempts to grab her. Tom then STABS HIM IN THE FUCKING KNEE WITH A CROWBAR and they run. Third time he brings a weapon, because from his perspective they are actively trying to destroy him. Ace is Intelligent. The weapon is clearly home-made. Ace is Resourceful.
Finally, we spear him through the fucking chest. Ace retreats. Even though he apparently feels no pain, Ace is self-aware and understands that a) too much damage will kill him and b) Tom and Ruby may be too dangerous to engage using simple force. He's either gone off to get further instruction or he is setting up an ambush. NEITHER BODES WELL; REMEMBER THE POISON GAS?

In any case, I worry that by having him attack Ace, we've made Tom a target for retaliation. He seems to be working down a checklist:

What's next? Is he going to go after fucking STITCHES?
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)00:58 No.3388447

I don't think he really cares about stitches.

It's pretty obvious that Ruby has some significance with whatever changed the facility, and whoever is giving Ace orders probably knows this.

    >He must have got her out of that box after Red left her there. He must have put her in that coffin for a reason instead of MURDERING HER.
Don't mistake his motives as helpful just because the actions he takes can benefit people besides himself.

Ace's motives for "saving" Ruby from the crate after Red's attack are NOT necessarily as helpful as they seem. He could be using Ruby (and Tom, and Red, and so on) for his own purposes.
If Red really DID have a justification in attacking Ruby -- if for some reason Ruby's death would have solved something more serious -- then Ace undermining Red's actions, while apparently helpful, would actually be seriously harmful.

We don't know enough yet, but we can't simply assume Ace is on the side of good.

Saving Ruby from the crate? Are we forgetting the corpse in the crate with the three eyes? That Ruby is dead. This Ruby probably began life in that coffin.

Speaking of which, something must have happened to rip Clone Ruby's coffin off the wall in that new room and drop it through the floor into the room where she woke up initially. Ace?
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:12 No.3388565
Ace's motives are very ambiguous at best. Perhaps he acts as some sort of "lawman" in metal glen? i mean, we know that both ruby and red are shown assaulting people. Maybe he is attempting to detain them?

Red would seem to have been detained for a time in that little room above the monitor room, and his escape is what triggered Ace's pursuit of him. And red saw that death was preferable to being detained any longer.

I think it's clear from Red's suicide note that he was trying to escape from Ace. Exactly WHY, however, is open to interpretation.
Obviously he wasn't trying to escape from just Ace for Ace's sake, but for whatever capture by Ace would have meant.

My theory is that the Ruby "corpse" she saw in that crate was a flashback to her near-death experience following Red's assault. Having established her participation in this 'program' and her amnesia, I would theorize that her hallucinations are visions of the PAST, not the future. She's remembering.
The corpse is representative of her time spent in the crate, waiting for death, before Ace found her.

    >can you really see a happy ending tor Red?
It's even worse when you realize that the experimental treatments (whatever they are), which are assumedly what set everything in motion and began the corruption and downfall of reality in this entire adventure, was Red's idea.
He must feel pretty guilty about that.

All of Ace's actions, and even Red's note, points to Ace being on the side of Ace, first and formost. Red addressed the note to him because, even if he's not in charge, he must be the only one to weild such... 'authority'.
Lol ripping apart the wall above the Z hatch.

    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:20 No.3388644
Yeah, to be fair, we don't actually know what Ace is. We're assuming he's a bird, but we honest to god don't KNOW. There's no eyes or visible line to suggest that 'beak' is a mouth; it could just as well be some kind of REALLY WEIRD exosuit, like the plague doctors that showed up the first time he was seen.

This is pretty much what I thought. He seems to fulfill the role of general muscle and dogsbody; we see him fixing a pipe in the security recording, and then we ALSO see him apprehending Ruby and leading her away. He clearly has a position of some sort of authority, but he is also clearly below Red.

Personally, I assumed that Ace 'arrested' Ruby, she was then released (or cloned, or whatever) and then Red, possibly feeling slightly psychotic from the healing cubicle's effect on his mouth (conjecture. may not have happened, but given that he has a crazy fucked up laughter face we can assume he treated it at some point) beats her half to death and leaves her in the Do Not Open box.
Ace finds her, and ascertains that Red is responsible off-camera. I think at this point they said that they caught him and put him in cubicle 6, in which case he evidently somehow escaped, and Ace has been looking for him. Red is afraid of Ace because he does not want to be caught and jammed into the box again. PROBABLY because he knows what they fucking do to people; he is a scientist living above a security room full of camera feeds and he has FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE after all.

I don't know. I think it is a bit of a stretch to say that the corpse was symbolic and insubstantial. We know we can't trust what Ruby sees to be real, but we do know that there is some kind of cloning or something going on from what happened with the liquified Stitches. That is unless someone managed to piece what was left of him in the z-hatch back together.

Red makes a clear and willful decision in his journal the very day that Ruby assaults him. I believe he didn't attack her out of madness or revenge, but for some deeper reason. It was what CAUSED her violence that made Red react the way he did. Red recognize what was happening, even if we don't, and for whatever reason concluded that attacking/killing Ruby was the solution.

Red was NOT remanded to Cell #6 the day he attacked Ruby, but rather, THREE DAYS LATER.
I believe Red was confined to Cell 6 for an entirely separate reason. I'm sure his attack is in some way connected, but it's not why he was moved to Cell 6.
Something HAPPENED on November 1st, which is when he was imprisoned. The day Red went from Staff to Patient.

True, but Red has shown that he's pretty good at hiding and running. It might have just taken three days to apprehend him.
Of course, that's never how it happens in media, so who knows.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:31 No.3388736
Yeah, it could have been that, which might also explain why he's after Tom and Ruby AGAIN even though they've both 'served their time' (although killing the Hound, chopping Stitches head off and being in the same room as Red's horribly mutilated corpse when he arrived might have had something to do with it).

Given Ruby's past record, Ace may have been ignoring our attempts to reason with him because we were HOLDING A KNIFE AND STANDING NEXT TO TOM. Disarm first, listen later. He seems the pragmatic type.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:33 No.3388758
    >What Ace wants... DEFINATLY isn't to harm Ruby
There is absolutely NO definitive evidence Ace does not want to harm Ruby WHATSOEVER. In fact, there is significant evidence to the contrary, that he is a hostile force and WILL cause harm to Ruby.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:34 No.3388767
What about the #6 being Blanca, the shape shifter theory. Blanca takes Ruby's appearance and attacks both Red and Tom. I don't know of any motive, but Weaver said #6 was clearly visible in the video. If Ace was the only one in contact with #6, could it be possible that #6 killed or trapped Ace and took on his appearance later on to escape confinement? This might explain some of Red's strange behavior (the abomination mouth, which can also be linked to treatment). This is just my reasoning so far.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:35 No.3388779
Think about it, though. Did Red want to kill her, or merely get her out of the way? He smacks her once and she goes down, and then he KEEPS PUMMELING HER. The first signs of regeneration sickness shining through?
Also worth mentioning that the whole insanity angle may have absolutely nothing to do with regeneration at all. Remember that Red heard strange voices in his head long before ANYTHING started going wrong.

Entirely possible. There was a makeshift bed and a nearly-empty box of cereal in the crawlspace above the security room. Red has been LIVING in there, potentially for quite a long time. Would Ace think to look in there? Would Ace even FIT?
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:35 No.3388788
There's also the issue of WHAT or WHO killed #1 (who is confirmed to be stitches, yes?)
Was it ruby (or possibly her doppelganger) like with what apparently happened with Tom?
Or did the treatment kill him? He seems to have the worst "mutations" of anyone else allegedly affected by the treatment. So did an "overdose" kill/revive him?
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:35 No.3388789
The only evidence you have to support the whole crazy "shapeshifter" theory is that Weaver said we could see #6 in one of the two end cutscene videos, and that would include everyone in the picture, most of whom we can't even make out.

This whole shapeshifter thing seems pretty tacked-on, actually. It doesn't make much sense in the grander scheme and it's rather trite. More importantly, there's no solid evidence whatsoever to support it, and plenty to support other, conflicting theories.

"Hoped the death of patient #1 could have been overlooked..."
The only one who interfered with Red's concilment of the murder was Ace. Red's actions... are difficult to decern, mabey he was suffering a mentle breakdown making it nessissary to capture him the three days later, or his actions started to go against his superiors, but it seems clear to me that Red and Ace were NOT working towards the same means.
Quite right. I like your thinking there. I think Ace would have made some attempt to communicate if he was able... that thing on his head... that's not his face. No mouth no eyes, something up there...
But what about him dragging Tom to the room? Do we actually know if it was Ace whose responsible for Tom losing his eye, the second time, or was that after/during/an accident unrelated?
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:40 No.3388838
Yeah, I REALLY don't like the shapeshifter theory. It seems like taking the easy way out to be honest, and compared to some of the awesome mindshittery Weaver has thrown our way so far it feels practically hackneyed. Remember that we are in a place where impossible things may happen that the world has never seen before. In an increasingly large portion of the base, up is down. Ruby has terrifying visions and then they turn out to be relevant. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that Ruby blanked out and something else grabbed hold of her body and got stabby with it; note her blank expression in the security feeds. No anger, no hatred, no shock or surprise, just "I am doing this thing with my hands and your face. The hook is going in. Now it is coming out again. Yes. Yes, this is what is happening."

That doesn't mean that it wasn't there the first time. I wonder if there might be a hatch or a trap door under the box. But then that seems far-fetched as well.

An attempt to communicate with Ace should be made if we get the chance. Perhaps he could be detained somewhere? Given how he tore up the z-hatch, that may be tricky.

Don't know if Ace was responsible for Tom losing his eye. You'd have to check the archives and look at the security feed for when he was about to die and we sent him the antidote, but I THINK he had his eye then. Also note that room seems to be a sort of decontamination room AND it has a large, working monitor. Ace may have been dragging Tom there to say NOW SIT THE FUCK DOWN AND WAIT HERE WHILE I GET YOUR FRIEND SO YOU CAN RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS THROUGH THE MONITOR AND WE CAN ALL GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE. JESUS FUCK NOW SHE'S GONE RUNNING OFF INTO THE- WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT RED?

The theory actually came from someone else's mouth; Weaver just responded with 'Subject 6 is clearly in one of the video recordings'. He could just be fucking with us, and he's just letting it continue to do an EPIC 'you fucking idiots' bit later that'll disprove even the possibility.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:47 No.3388921
Holy shit that is actually a really good point.

Suggest we separate from Tom and next time Ace appears, we drop our weapons and put our hands up and clearly state "I surrender". If he's still wielding that godawful grapnel thing, he'll most likely either lower it too (which means he doesn't actually want to hurt us) or he'll come at us at full speed, which means JESUS CHRIST I THINK WE BLEW OUR CHANCE FOR TALKING WHEN WE STABBED HIM THROUGH THE CHEST LETS GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE.

Also, Ruby remembers Ace putting her in her cubicle. This could have been a kindly, self-serving or neutral act. However, she could be remembering wrongly. All we've seen is Ace holding the lid of something with a bright light behind him.

Remember when Ace found Ruby in the crate? He moved the lid aside and she reached up for him, so at that point she was still alive..

"Clearly in one of the video recordings, but not in the manner (or possibly matter, which may or may not have been a typo) you expect" I believe were his exact words. Tiny figure in a painting seems to fit that, and we KNOW that Ace in the recordings and the figure chasing us are the same person, because Weaver was extremely pissed at us for not figuring it out yet.

    >They why didn't he kill her in the coffin? Why did he not help Red conceal her body?
We don't know. His motives are completely unknown. It's unknown whether he finished her off, faked her death, or really did try to revive her and failed. We know NOTHING about his motives for recovering her body, so why would you immediately assume it was out of the GOODNESS OF HIS HEART?
If you're throwing around unfounded guesses, it would still be more likely to assume Ruby is simply more valuable to Ace (and his superiors) alive than she is dead.

    >He could have harmed her several times beforehand should he have desired.
Which makes it very possible his motives or orders have changed since then.

I'm against even trying to speak with him unless Tom and Ruby are in total control of the situation. It seems like the perfect time for Weaver to throw in a 'You idiot, you killed a main character' part if we're wrong about him.

Here's another thing that popped to my mind: http://1d4chan.org/images/e/ec/Accident_report.gif

When we combine this with Red's disries, all evidence points in that Red was the "fatal accident". However, why is the report talking about her blindness? She could clearly see when she assaulted Red for the first time. Her eyesight also had no problem when attacking Tom after being declared dead: She looked directly at him, had no problem lip-locking with him, and could (apparently) walk out without fumbling.

Of course, her eyesight has had no problems ever since the game started, but I still think this is very relevant.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:55 No.3388985
Took me long enough, heres what we got:

Suddenly, a flash of memory returns to Ruby.
The figure does not seem friendly.
    She remembers the figure...
The figure is the one who put her in the locker

Ruby is drawing a blank, beyond the image of being put into the metal cell by the figure.
Tom says he recognizes them. It is the same figure that dragged him away to that room when he was suffering from arsenic poisoning.

Tom explains that he lost his eye while he was being dragged off to the room he spent the last few days in. The thing that brought him there did it.

Ace hurt Tom, but has been preserving Ruby. Huh.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:57 No.3389000

I know you love the story, but be honest about it. We're dealing with crude, incredibly simple figures. They aren't going to have profoundly telling facial expressions.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:59 No.3389007
That's pretty obvious; do both. Tom is freaked the fuck out by seeing us attempt and possibly succeed at murdering him, and he has found A NOTE FROM HIMSELF WARNING HIM NEVER TO TRUST US. Unless we find another document saying that Ruby was actually Subject 8 or whatever and Subject 7 is someone else entirely, chances are there will be no more hugs.
On the other hand, Ruby is understandably also freaked the fuck out. Suggest that we back away from Tom with our hands up so he doesn't feel threatened, then say we really don't remember doing any of those things, but we'll understand if he doesn't want to walk around with us anymore. Suggest we keep the walkie-talkies just in case, as Ace is quite clearly still lurking around somewhere and one-on-one neither of you stand a chance. On top of which, by stabbing him to save Ruby, Tom may have made himself a target as well.
If all goes well we can start reminding him that HE doesn't remember anything either, and that we've both saved each others lives (and had opportunities to horribly murder each other) dozens of times since then. Especially mention the part where we desperately tried to find an antidote for his arsenic poisoning. Especially do not mention the part where we gave him arsenic poison.
Job's a good'un. Chances are Tom won't want to turn his back on us for a while, but an ally who is keeping an eye on you is worth more than a terrified tomcat swinging a deadly spade at your face.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)01:59 No.3389008
My theory is that it's all a red herring, because the accident report was faked. The strongest indicator being IT WASN'T AN ACCIDENT. And even if everyone involved was so stupid as to assume being sealed in a crate with blunt force trauma all around her skull was somehow an accident, they had the assault on tape, so surely SOMEONE saw it.
Hell, the official report probably had her listed as falling down the stairs or something. They could use her blindness as an excuse to make the claim sound more believable, even if it was 'cured' by this point, because she would still be adjusting to her new sensory input.

So if it was clearly an assault and not an accident, why was it filed as such? Why cover it up?
It adds credibility to the theory that Ace (or his superiors) either wanted Red to think he had succeeded to lull him into a false sense of security, or they were simply using it as a front to continue even more twisted experiments on Ruby with no ethical intervention because she was already filed as 'dead'.

Personally don't think Ace wrote the report, simply because it refers to him in the third person. He views the little symbol as his name and uses it as a signature, which seems to suggest that he thinks.. Well, somewhat normally. It's his name. He COULD have been referring to himself in the third person, but it doesn't seem likely, is all I'm saying.
That's not to say he's not in cahoots or just straight taking orders from whoever's behind it, though.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)02:02 No.3389042
What gets me the most is that while Red reports Ruby's death as an accident, and Ace finds her and declares her dead, Red says it's unfortunate her death couldn't be overlooked. He never ment for the body to be discovered (Do not open). I think while Red was just trying to hide her, Ace found her and concealed her/helped her back to health/got her to aid without Red's knowledge, or ATLEAST reported the death to their supperiors.
I'm just trying to peice together why their actions more than just don't coincide, but rather seem to be in direct opposition to each other.

    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)02:03 No.3389051

Weaver has shown, repeatedly, that his characters can have facial expressions representing distinct emotions. The fact that Ruby obviously has no facial expression whatsoever while she assaults someone is telling of something.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)02:03 No.3389053
Like I said, it could be that his superiors made the report themselves, and he was just acting in their interests.
Ace finds Ruby, looks around, doesn't know what to do. Brings her to his superiors to decide what to do. What happens from there on out is their decision, and Ace is merely the enforcer of their word.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)02:04 No.3389063
Your evidence is a picture of Red with sad eyebrows. Even Heston used more of his face to express emotion.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)02:05 No.3389073
Example: When fighting the Hound, Ruby has an incredibly pissed off expression on her face. She then gets the scratch on her forehead which is in the same area as her clenched-shut eyes and looks very similar as they are just line drawings, but all three are instantly recognizable.
And besides THAT, even the most simplistic expressions would do; a slight narrowing of the eyes or a frown. She doesn't have any expression whatsoever; she just has a blank face.

You know, by their very nature, simplified cartoons often excel at conveying emotion because they reduce a facial expression to its most important aspects.

Criticize the simplicity of Red's face in that panel all you want, but his expression and the significance behind it is clear and apparent. Lots of people responded to it, and the deeper meaning it suggested.

Is the guy doing that video game reading this thread? Because I have an idea I'd like to see in the game, and I'm not going to take a break of all this speculation to explain it:

    Trust value.
    - Invisible, unless you use a cheat code.
    - Increases when you're kind to Tom: Hug him when he's sad, cover his eye with a gauze (which really didn't seem to help much, not at this point), help him around, tell him all your secrets, be nice to him after he kisses you ("We can talk when we get out of here."), things like that.
    - Decreases when he doubts you: When he sees his own writing telling him not to trust her, when you keep secrets from him, when you seem emotionless and unsympathetic, and stuff.
    - Comes to play in certain points of the game: Enough Trust at the point we just reached, for instance, and he might believe you. If he doesn't trust you at all to begin with, he may attack and kill you instead, resulting in a game over.

It's an important plot element here, trust. I'm in no way responsible of the game, I'm not telling him what to do, or anything like that, I'm just pointing out ideas. Ideas are important.

A simpler way to do this would be to have a bad ending if you're enough of a dick and vice versa.

If this idea goes through, I suggest looking at SH2 for how their ending system worked: every damned action you took in the game counted as james's actions. examine angela's knife a lot? gives you a point towards the BAD END. run out of a certain room before your dead wife finishess talking to you? BAD END. keep yourself wounded a lot? BAD END. Hang with maria alot? BAD END.

on the other hand, examine your wife's photograph a lot? GOOD END. Keep healthy? GOOD END. Outrun Maria constantly and generally not give a fuck about her? GOOD END.

It's really quite brilliant and it's miles above and beyond resident evil's stupid "DO YOU GIVE THE GUN TO BARRY?" style bullshit.

They're all dead. Trying to excape hell. Not only is this stated in the poem, everything begins to fit together better. Ruby killed Tom for apparently no reason. Was it truly out of malice, or was it an action born from what was done to her? How can a being truly be judged if it is unclear as to their true motives. Ruby (and possibly the rest of them) are now being judged to see if they are worth being able to escape from their hell.

The orcs are violent drug-loving bastards, they're just NOT QUITE as bad as they're made out to be. What might Ruby have seen if she'd looked in some places we've only had Tom look up until now? What might she have seen in Tom's locker; what might she have seen in the Medical Room?

Orrrrrrr... Blanca framed Ruby by assaulting Red out of the blue while under Ruby's guise then shifted to Tom when the time was right. Real Ruby figures this out and goes to kill for this.

    Another theory:

The miraculous treatment can cure every wound, even resurrect people, but as a secondary effect, it makes people go insane (or be possesed by evil forces, we don't know). HOWEVER,this only happens when the treatment is applied to ALIVE subjects.

Think about it: Red and Ruby (and probably the Hound) went insane after being cured (Ruby from her blindness, Red from his mouth).

But, since Ruby died and got fully revived, she haven't show any homicidal tendence.

Also, Tom received the treatment too (because of his arms), then Ruby killed him, and now he's alive again, and he's pretty normal so far.

He has the plot planned, but the story evolves depending on our decisions.

Running through the Z-hatch was a stupid idea, and climbing the pipe a wild guess he couldn't have planned. Or attacking Ace and losing the crowbar in the process (which we could have use for opening the cabinet), activating the lethal trap... Or sending the severed hand through the neumatic tube.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)07:19 No.3390878

The real Ruby would seem, as I've noticed after searching around the old threads, to use primarly her left hand. This would mean that Red's slasher most likely wasn't Ruby, which also makes the same thing possible for Tom's attacker.

It might be Blanca who's ambidexterous.

This only means that the story isn't linear. We can do stuff in our own order.

To me it just looks like most RP games. You have a history that is fully established before you play, instead of one of those game-jamming quantum histories. You have the full schematics of the facility and the characters in it as well as their plans reasonably well established. Between all this there are a wide variety of actions that can be taken, but not that many that lead to genuinely different outcomes, and only one superobjective.

It's like going somewhere. There are a good many methods of transport, and a vast variety of ways that it can be used to get there, but one way or another you end up at your destination unless things go terminally wrong.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)07:43 No.3390990
And the destination may vary wildly from what we expect.

So far the goal was "escape". Somehow, with the mutations and the current brainfucked past, I begin to think escape may not be the best idea.

We also have the information that Ruby has so far been a sweet, calm, and nice herbivorous bunny girl, who has saved Tom's life countless of times, and has had many other opportunities to kill him again. She hasn't.

There is also a possibility, I admit, that the amnesia seriously scrambled her personality, and that she used to be an evil asshole maniac. But if that was the case, her and Tom would never have gotten to such friendly terms, being that they had known each other for several months by then. And with the program going on for that time, the others would've discovered her as well and kicked her out: If she was crazy enough to just kill Tom, she was crazy enough to start killing much earlier.

Or she could've been sweet and caring before the program, and it was only the treatment that messed her head - as it apparently messed up so many others. If this was the case however, all evidence shows that she has been brought back to what she used to be before the program.

She didn't kill him by her own free will.

Why not? Ruby could have been a sociopathic killer just fine beforehand. She's murderous, but wouldn't kill when it disadvantages her, as killing the only other useful survivor would. A serial killer, too, only kills in specific circumstances, and these are clearly different circumstances.

Or she's a killer and her current lack of visible signs of psychopathy is a symptom of her treatment like the eye.

Or there was some information she had at the time to make her actions compatible with her current personality.

Okay, so following the shape shifter theory, this is how I see how things are.
Ace is an experiment, perhaps one of the oldest ones. He has been left with a very physically designed body, however his mind is simple, something similar to a drone. His seeming loyalty to his duties helps indicate that the doctors decided to use him as a ward for the other patients, who might be violent.

Originally the head doctor for Metal Glen is F, however at some point of time Red (having been either transferred to Metal Glen as an additional doctor or already on the board) approaches F with ideas for an experimental treatment (October 3rd) which begin on October 7th.

I agree with the idea that Metal Glen was designed for experimental treatment of diseases and conditions that at the time are either incredibly hard to resolve or had no cure. Red's treatment was most likely something unethical as F was cautious about it and it took four days (perhaps longer, who knows how long Red had been asking for permission) to be finally given the go ahead.

Red's treatment worked, on some level, but began to get out of his control due to patient #6.

This is where things get really iffy as there isn't much evidence to support this theory, but I'll do my best.

Clearly the base was a fully operational hospital: I'm sure they had a psychiatrist on board as well. There were "risks" mentioned, and that Ruby "understood them" when she entered the program: There's a very high possibility that they knew it'd be some mental problems, making a psychiatrist mandatory.

Chances are, he'd've found out about Ruby's madness long before she had the chance to kill Tom - unless she's truly exceptionally intelligent, and in perfect understanding of her own problems and how society reacts to them, enough that to succesfully hide it all from a trained psychiatrist. I very much doubt this.

And even if she was, she'd've certainly also been smart enough to kill Tom in a much cleaner way, and hide the body.

All this considered, it's much more unlikely that she was crazt or evil to begin with, rather than being possessed/brainwashed/mind-controlled, gone temporarily insane from the treatment, or just plain doppelganger.

There is also the chance that whatever informations we found are fake.
    Fake recordings, fake notes.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)09:15 No.3391353
And another thing: When Red killed Ruby, did anyone pay attention to the painting on the background? Clearly it was a painting: Showing what looks like a city and some armored knights.

Unlikely, though possible. Better play it safe, and proceed as if they're all real.

Please. A psychologist can tell little about you of the type of deep-seated issues like partial psychopathy and sociopathy unless you are actively helping them to. You can hide ANYTHING from a psychologist by just not cooperating very much, which happens all the time. You can also hide subtle things with incredible ease by just not talking about them, and with the tiniest bit of misdirection onto a much lesser real problem they usually can't tell you did that.

Psychology is nothing like medicine. You can't take a mental sample and stick it in a machine, you have to work closely with a willing and able patient to produce any results.

And psychopaths hide in plain sight all the time, because they know these things too. You don't even have to be smart to work it out.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)09:38 No.3391469

When we're talking about seven patients, who receive experimental treatments that may put a serious strain on their sanity, I very much doubt these people "hide in plain sight". They've hired the best guys and made full background checks on everyone. I see your point, however, and anything I've just said doesn't change anything of that.

Consider instead that the incidents happened only after the fateful experiment. It turned normal and nice people into bloodthirsty maniacs: It can't be a coincidence that this was when Ruby started as well. Acting nice for months, only to suddenly turn on her companions violently, in full sight of witnesses (well, one witness), and with no effort whatsoever of covering her tracks? I doubt that.

Also let's consider Tom for a second: How was he, apparently, compeletely oblivious of what happened to Red, and of Ruby supposed to be dead? If he had known about the recent events, he certainly would've acted more hostile at her. Had he had a recent amnesia as well, resulting from being put back in his coffin? That seems like the only option. Why did they do that? What did he do to deserve it?

Tom's not as clean as he looks either. And if anything, Tom seems even more innocent than Ruby: You're not suggesting that they were BOTH evil psychopaths just biding their time?
    >> Dr. Baron von Evilsatan 01/13/09(Tue)09:49 No.3391509

I don't think she is, I just don't like people assuming that nice Ruby is an undisputable fact and then using that as a premise in their arguments.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)09:53 No.3391528

I don't know about "nice Ruby", but you'll never see me go as far as "evil and crazy Ruby". The best I'll go is "temporarily maddened by experiments Ruby", and even that very reluctantly. This is probably because I love sweetness and good endings.

And currently I'm really looking forward to them seeing similar stuff about Tom that he can't remember, just so they'd be balanced again. Followed by tearful apologies and possibly hugs, when they find that both of them had very good reason for what they did.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)10:05 No.3391593
I'd also like to point you all to the fact that subject 6 was isolated only fifteen days after "Ruby" killed Tom. Meanwhile, so far there's been no record found about Ruby since her fatal accident.

I'm still hoping for a bizarre Ruby Tom Red love triangle!

I think Red had feelings for Ruby, but he kept them with himself and told no one, because she was already perfectly happy with Tom. There's no evidence whatsoever to back up this theory, but I like it anyway.

The depressed look after she hooked him was proof enough.

    Also smashed monitor after kiss.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)11:06 No.3391933

I think his face was more of a parental concern, and dismay of seeing a good friend suddenly turn against him, though there might have been unrequited love behind it as well.

Also how would the monitor magically repair itself? And if Red was there to smash it, why didn't he stop what happened?

That's (along with his jounral) more proof that Red wasn't holding Ruby responsible for what happened, that something else was really the cause of what was going on.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)13:28 No.3392949

Then why did he kill her? Especially if he really did like her? He could've just locked her up or something.
