Who says they're crocodile tears? It's a perfectly reasonable reaction to seeing yourself violently attempt to murder the only person you can currently trust and rely on, and if not that, then to them suddenly becoming paranoid about you.

Personally, if I saw someone kill me on video, and then they turned around and tried to explain it away, my instinct would be to get more suspicious, even if the explanation were feasible.

    ><TG_Weaver> YOU KNOW WHAT'S EVEN MORE SUSPICIOUS THAN NO EMOTION?
    ><TG_Weaver> FALSE EMOTION

From IRC yesterday. Besides, the general consensus is that we're subconscious suggestions in Ruby's mind, not actual neurons firing in her synapses. We can't force her to do anything, only suggest it - how do you 'suggest' having a mental breakdown?

We have ruby calmly explain that she doesn't remember committing the act, and that she was supposed to be dead during the attack.

failing that, she begs him to not leave her alone in this god-forsaken hole.
    >> Anonymous 01/16/09(Fri)20:48 No.3426265
    >>3426212

All you suggest is allowing all the stress that's built up to come out. She doesn't have to try to have a break down: she just has to stop NOT having a break down.

Leaving tom aside a moment, the catharsis would probably make her feel better.

No, Tom. You don't understand. I'm happy. I can't let you go. We've begun something lovely, and, as with all things that start, it inevitably ends. The beginning is always so fine, but decay soon follows. The rot sets in. This way, there was only the beauty of the start.

I think Ruby shouldn't be the submissive one here. She's nearly as frightened and confused as Tom is, seeing herself murder her only friend in this place.

Instead of being submissive and apologising, she should scream at him, tell him that she doesn't remember anything more than he does, ask him if he really believes that recording, showing her do stuff she wouldn't even think about, didn't hurt her as much as it hurt him - and then break down in tears, throw the scalpel at him (in a harmless and nonhostile way), move aside, and demand that he fucks off and leaves her alone.

Besides, bad guys in these situations always laugh and go "that's ridiculous" or "you really don't believe that, don't you?". If Ruby doesn't pull that off, Tom will know she's logically a good guy.

Also I very much doubt that Tom's willing to just club her to death.

If this is, indeed, a medical facility experimenting with some sort of regeneration technique that causes bad side effects, isn't it entirely possible Red killed himself in the method he did so that he wouldn't be brought back?

Yeah, but some of that also says "NO ESCAPE BRING YOUR OWN TUX"

Also, "WE ARE ALREADY DEAD" is probably relevant. Maybe this is the afterlife.

Maybe this is all Ruby's stream of consciousness as she dies of blood loss, and Red is the part of her mind that's trying to tell her what's going on.

Remember, Ace tried to save her, according to her file.

Well they've all been killed at least once by now.

    >Maybe this is all Ruby's stream of consciousness as she dies of blood loss, and Red is the part of her mind that's trying to tell her what's going on.

Shit, I hope not. That'd be seriously depressing, and this story really needs to end on a happy note.

We don't know that at all. Red's dead, nobody else is confirmed dead.
Even Stitches might never have died. I mean, you might think decapitation would be fatal, but then again so would BEING A HEAD ON A SPINAL CORD WITH NO ORGANS, and that seemed to be working out fine for him.

My point exactly. Stitches has definitely died, Ruby and Tom almost certainly, yet they're all still active. The regeneration coffins are powerful enough to revive the dead.

Oh yes, I did. And contrary to you, I believe that they've all been, at least clinically, dead at some point. Stitches was decapitated probably, and trying to revive him turned him into a monster. Ruby and Tom had a lot more mass left in their bodies, and so their mutations weren't as severe.

Ruby was killed by a cut to the head. In the same spot, there's now an eye. COINCIDENCE? If she killed Tom by cutting open his stomach or something, it's definitely not a coincidence.

Which probably means that we shouldn't try to resurrect anyone from their hand or head.

If those lockers are indeed regeneration chambers, perhaps Stitches was in mid-regeneration when Ruby messed with the computer panel and opened them all. That would explain the HOLYSHITBLOODYORGANS.

Finally took the time to read through all this. Weaver, congratulations for having successfully realized something this awesome.

Things that haven't been stated yet which seem clear to me:

Ruby died and was resurrected as Ace was taking her body to the holding cell.

Stitches seems to have been killed by trapping him in the closet and pouring acid in through the eyehole.

There are at least two stages to the resurrection, and memories aren't retained between them. (Notes from Red and Tom in their own handwriting, killer Ruby, non-killer Stitches).

. . .On second thought, "stages" might not be the right view. Red was surprised by a note seemingly written in *response* to a comment he remembered writing- lapses in long-term memory encoding? Did Red know what was going on, or was his memory gone like everyone else, driven to denial after waking up to a room full of insane scribblings in his own hand?

The big mystery here is why Red initially attacked Ruby- or maybe vice versa, since I think we only see the left side of his face in that video. It simplifies things if Ruby was a homicidal maniac who attacked both Red and Tom while she was alive.
