This seems as good as time to talk about Pulowski Preservation Services, purveyors of products there when you actually need them.

Seems there's been a lot of talk these days about Vault life. But not all of us have the luxury to spend so much on something that, frankly, we may not actually need. Unlike those other guys, the sensible folks at Pulowski Preservation Services have created an affordable line of personal protection products to make sure no one gets left behind. Personal protection, there when you actually need it. Remember, that's Pulowski Preservation Shelters. Simply there when you actually need them. Exact change only.

("Yesterday Once More" by The Carpenters fades out)

Now THIS is music! Welcome back to the world after Hell got loose in it, Two Rivers, I'm your Voice of Reason after the End, now-SERGEANT, "Mad Marc" Mendelson, and you're listening to 107-point-9 on your dial: that's KOOL 108, your Local Golden SuperStation! If your taste is all in your mouth, that was the Carpenters, singing Yesterday Once More.

It's time once again for the Afternoon News, Day 71 of broadcast, brought to you courtesy of our elite team of haphazard contacts, bringing you the latest from the Minnesota Territory and beyond!

First up: residents of the Phillips Neighborhoods or any in Powderhorn that are reasonably close to Midtown Phillips should make their way to the Midtown Exchange A-S-A-P: the Neighborhood Council has begun setting up a community hunting program and you should register for that noise as soon as you can, it's for your own good and that of your kids. As they described it to me, the community all takes part in the hunt, and the community shares the rewards. You don't hunt, you don't eat. Sounds fair to me, doncha think?
    >> If it's [in brackets], he's not saying it, I am. Amazing 01/27/09(Tue)23:22 No.3539701
    >>3539637

Secondarily; if you're picking me up in Owatonna today, I'd like to inform you kindly that my contacts tell me that there's some Raider activity buzzing around to your south face. We haven't heard anything from Albert Lea in a few days, and that was a big settlement, so keep your eyes on 35 and hang tight. LM [Lakeland Military] is sending some boys down to check out the sitch, with heavy muscle ready to follow. We're thinking of you.

Thirdly, the City Council announced today that the cholera outbreak is officially "under control". Meaning that while you COULD stop boiling the chamber pots, it's probably a good idea to not take chances. Just an FYI.

One final announcement- if you're one of those enterprising suckers who's trying to set up a business of some kind in this hell, I have to say I support you. If you need help getting the word out, drop me a pigeon, and if I get enough responses I may consider adding advertising to the station in-between hour blocks. Just make sure it's lucrative on my end as well, Johnny!

That's all from me for now, folks! Up next, we've got- more music, what a surprise! This first one is by some guys called "The Hollies", and bears the moniker of The Air That I Breathe! Here you are, folks- and don't you forget, lest you forever regret, you're listening to KQQL- that's KOOL 108!

(The Air That I Breathe begins)

Greetings Earthlings! You are listening to WAFR, broadcasting to you live and world-wide on pirate satellite! That's right, Earth man, it's everybody's favorite eye in the sky, "Space Man Dan" McGinty aboard America's very own satellite of love, Space Station Number 5.

At the top of the news, disaster in Ontario! The great, white north continues to burn as fire season kicks into high gear this week, sizzling from Lake Superior to Hudson Bay. But hey, at least it's a dry heat!

If you think they've got it bad, steer clear of the Windy City this holiday weekend. The Great Chicago Electrical Disturbance (or that big-ass storm, if you're from the south side!) continues to churn with no end in sight. It's been going strong for seventeen years already, so why give it a rest now?

And in other news, the boys and girls of Satellite Number Five want to congratulate our listeners in Wilmington, Delaware for reaching the green band; that magical point on the Geiger counter that is safe for human habitation.

Stay classy, Earthlings, and stay tuned after this for your five-day forecast. Here's a preview: it's glowing.

("Moanin'" by Charlie Mingus fades out)

"We're back on KFAQ 1170, Tulsa, where we're rolling into another hour of Jazz and Big band hits, right before the big show where some of our local musicians are going to try their hand at this radio thing.

"But between here and there we've got a little news, brought to you by the First (that we know of) Ultralight Brigade. There's a major brushfire to the west along the Turnpike headed east, so if you can, get into a storm cellar and wait out the flames.

"If you can, save as much corn as you can: the Ethanol harvest this year is getting pretty thin, going for about $110 a barrel, near abouts. The Tulsa Agricultural Bureau as always is offering a bounty for information on processing switchgrass to ethanol, so if you think you have the know-how, come on over.

So what would happen if, say, a group of people after the End got a bottling plant running again, to sate their caffeine addictions?

They might well produce something with a higher potency then Mountain Dew. Like, say, this.

Hey, hey Melbourne you're back with Atomic FM, the best radio station in the best city at the end of the world. Time for the News.

First off a warning to anyone running about the underground trains. It seems seems a gang of manic robots calling themselves the Inspectors are checking out any wanders for tickets and have change the punishment for not having one to death. These guys are big, bad and out for blood, so if run into these guys, get ready to run or fight to end. However if you found an old ticket, just show em that and they leave you well enough alone.

On the more pleasant side of news, the art gallery is selling a new range of custom weapons. Everything from Fire breathing teddy bears to Laser shoot hammers to double barrel rocket launchers that fire exploding chainsaws. If want a weapon that makes you stand out, then you wanna get your arse down there.

Now, let's have music from those Super Dudes, The Aquabats with 'Yo, check out this ride.'

Hey all you good folks out there in Dixie, you're listening to One-Oh-Three-Point-Seven, Birmingham. This is the good Doc, ready to dish all the latest dirt here in the sprawling Southern Wastes! So turn up those radios, sweethearts, and lend me yer ear!

For all you travelers out there looking for a place to rest your weary legs and enjoy some good ol' Southern hospitality, remember: The Pelham shelter relocated to the old skating rink right off I-65. Check your guns at the door and you'll be good for a full night's rest on some luxurious blanket covered benches! And tell Loretta the good Doc says 'hello.'

Don't forget for all you hungry settlers on the outskirts of Montevallo: Lucky's is doing their bi-annual food drive for all the folks in the area. All you need to bring is some ammo or scrap metal and they'll give you a big haul of perishables. It's a Saturday only affair, so you better get moving!

Bad news outta T-town, baby dolls: we've lost contact with the settlement at Bryant-Denny. Any attempts to establish a connection with ol' Bear and his crew had been met with silence. Two weeks ago, I told ya'll that a small army'a Raiders was headed that way. I don't know if the Bear put up a fight or not, but I can't imagine him waving no houndstooth flag. If you see the Bear or any of his junction boys, drop a line to the good Doc here at the Q: 140.15.

And lemme give a shout out to the merc crew The Rebels up in Huntsvegas for getting the radio tower up and running! They soldiered through slavers and raiders, but by god, they got ol' Bertha back online. Thanks to them and the other crews who repaired towers in Montgomery and Mobile, we're the furthest reaching radio station in the Southeast--

From Nashville to Florala, we're One-Oh-Three-Point-Seven, the Q, and we're here for you!

    Now back to the music...

    Your Station Information
Form distributed by the American Communications Commission
    ---
Hello! We at the ACC are beginning to rebuild organized radio in America, and to do that we need YOUR HELP. If you have been sent this letter, then you or someone you know has been heard on the airwaves regularly, which we fully endorse! However, this has begun to lead to conflicts over frequency use, which is why we are here- to serve once again as a regulating community to keep everyone from stepping on each others' toes.

You can help—just fill in the blanks, it's easy! Outline some basic information about your station, and then send it back! In no time at all, you'll be an official ACC Certified station, with all the guarantees and protections therein—including exclusive rights to your broadcasting frequency within your broadcast radius (which we work with the local authorities and powers to guarantee)! It's that simple!

If we do not receive a reply within six months of the send date, we will assume that the letter has been lost en route and send another. So, please, be prompt, and thank you for your participation!

    Station Moniker (if any):

    Central Transmitter Location:
[Tip: Wikipedia is useful for finding this out if you're using a station that existed pre-End. If you can't figure out where your station's tower is, just go with where they're registered.]
    Transmitter Arrangement:
[Tip: Basically, your station's ERP- that's Effective Radiated Power, or how many watts it uses and thus how strong its signal is.]
    Effective Service Area:
Station History (if applicable): (Your station’s history pre-End, if you know it, and all its history you know since it was restarted.)

    Current Station Format:
    Broadcasting Hours:
[Tip: Only put times in for this if you care. We're not trying to set all of these up on a timeline, here- I only do that on personal preference.]
Time Spent Broadcasting in Current Format: (How long has it been since your last DJ switch? And by switch, I mean murder.)

Current Station Operator: (Name, titles/ranks/etc. if applicable)
Operator Information: (Air Name, Age, Gender, Race, Personal Information, information about the operator's style of broadcast, etc.)

    "Ouch."
"Yep. We've added security in case he actually has any idea where we are. However, we have been getting a surprising number of the things back already. To be honest, these guys are so independent I didn't think we'd get any back, but there's at least twenty so far, scattered all over the place. I think there's actually a few from Australia in the pile, God only knows how."

The VA Hospital is now a safe zone, and under the protection of the New APD. 50% less corruption, 50% more firepower, and looking for new recruits. If you're a doctor, an EMT, a field medic, or ever beat Trauma Center on hard mode, then head on up, you're needed. Here's The Fratellis, with Chelsea Dagger.

Hey, Two Rivers, didn't mean to spoil your afternoon tunes, but it's Mad Marc and I've got something that just might interest those of you with a mind towards reconstruction instead of just survival in hell.

Just a few minutes ago, a Pigeon Post arrived at the station with a radio receiver- and this thing was a sophisticated bit of work, lemme tell you- that was set to and homing in on my signal. Now, while my first instinct was to dive for the .45 and get the Garrison up on watch for some motherfuckers looking to start some SERIOUS heat, it also had a letter, and I took the time to read it first.

A-paarentlyyyy, there's a bunch of radio nuts what got together and decided they didn't like their favorite DJ's killing each other over air control! A lot of them, apparently, considering how generic the letter was- my guess, and I presume some of my colleagues in the aether will back me up on this, is that these things were sent out to pretty much every station broadcasting in the country right now.

Anyhow. So these radio nuts are evidently reforming the old FCC- or some shit, I dunno, it's kind of vague but it seems that way- to keep more of their personalities from killing each other. I totally support that, by the way, I am very much opposed to being dead.

Anyhow, while I'm not sure what to think about someone trying to start up old government agencies again and regulate shit- a lot of people value the independence the End of the World has given them, I'm not ashamed to admit I'm one of them- I figured there was no harm in filling out the form they gave me and sending Birdie back. At worst, they're trying to hunt me down, and if you're listening and that's your aim, boyos, then good luck- former military, with twelve more on-site and in good standing with the locals (or so I'd hope).

And, at best, I don't get anyone butting in on my air, at no skin to me! Sometimes I enjoy being shut up in a concrete box with crap A/C all hours of the year.

At any rate, I thought you'd find that interesting, Two Rivers- I may soon be an "ACC Certified station"! Sounds like a mail-order lottery scam... at any rate, I don't want to bore you people all day, so here's Mr. Hayes again. I'm starting it from the top, even.

And, once again, this is KQQL- from our box in Anoka across the air to your heart, it's KOOL 108!

Just keep me informed if you see any guys with guns heading my way, okay?

..Good Morning Florida, this is Sky High Mike and you're listening to WFLC 97.3FM! How ya all doing out there? Yes, we finally managed to chase out that god damn raider group and we're back on the air live, and with more defense so don't fuck with us man! A very special thanks to Allen Fields and his combat engineers who were in the area and lended much needed assistance!

First news! As I said Allen Fields and his engineers are in the area and they are recruiting, so if you got some talent of getting things done under pressure and preferably good with a gun, come on down! They get a full two meals a day and all all the ammo they can carry.

Second! Miami is in desperate need of Light bulbs, so if you got a load of them sitting around, even the LED kind, bring them, for the love of god! The chief's playing 4 meals for a 12 pack and keep in mind all lights will be tested first!

Lastly, the trade schooner from Newport News has returned and is loaded down with wearable clothing, cooking implements, flour, cotton and possibly more clipboards then I've ever seen in my life, so if you need something, come on down and bring something trade worthy!

More news in a few hours, we're still cleaning up the corpses around here. Here's some music to handle the daily grind, something called Plowed from Sponge!

Bit of information on why things seem to be so relatively smooth in Minneapolis-St. Paul, A.K.A. Two Rivers.
    ==
No-one's quite sure why the Twin Cities survived so relatively intact through the End; its survival supports the popular theory of low-scale nuclear war, as most other metropolises of comparable or larger size either vanished or collapsed into chaos.

The Twin Cities were no different, and rioting and general anarchy erupted immediately after the End, and would last for nearly a year, destroying or damaging a good chunk of the city. However, the state's National Guard mobilized of its own volition, and set out on a bloody year-long campaign of calming the town, installing a new government in the process. Under the guidance of the Lord Mayor Zong Khang (a Hmong from St. Paul), the two communities were unified into one area of jurisdiction, the city-state of Two Rivers, capital of the South Minnesota Territory. This move pleased few in either of the Twin Cities, which have been rivals practically since before they were founded, but it was generally viewed as necessary to keep more riots from breaking out.

Lovin' this, lovin' this, lovin' this. I'm gettin' word that other people are standing up to these ACC fuckheads! Good on you fightin' the power like that. But then I get me a call, sayin' Mad Marc's signed up. What the hell, man. I mean, if you got the resources to shoot down a missile when they fire one off at you, fine, but really, have you gone stupid? Did you start dropping pills from unmarked bottles? Good God, man.

Anyhow, time for a bit of news. That interstate that runs through town, the one I forget the name of, well, the boys from the New APD got themselves some heavy equipment, and they're clearing it out. So if you see some tanks with dozer blades on 'em? Don't shoot, they're the good guys. The loop's out in a big way, but the solid ground roads are gettin' cleared off for all you traders that still have working vehicles. Send some thanks the APD's way, they're working hard so you don't have to. Here's Talib Kweli with the Getting Up Anthem.

Two Rivers runs so well because most of its infrastructure survived the End and the riots intact; while some serious work was required to get some operations, like the water treatment plant in Columbia Heights, back up and running, many of them had been going all throughout the hell.

Which is not to say it's perfect. The government is cobbled-together and the two cities are still distinctly separate (and squabbling) entities, despite sharing a name now. The military, while competent, were never intended to be full-time warriors, and many are suffering from things like PTSD. The government has to rely on a peripherally-stable fast-talking ex-soldier to get their news out on the radio since roughly the top third of the IDS Tower burned away in the riots, taking the transmitting equipment with it.

The Mississippi River is full of wrecks and monstrous mutated carp, and as polluted as ever to boot. The Minnesota River runs cleaner, but also shallower than before. Many of the bridges over both rivers were destroyed in the riots. Unrest of all types still rages outside the city, slowly picking off smaller communities. And nothing seems to ever get done as far as rebuilding larger cohesion in the world.

Still, they're better off than most.

Hey Florida! It's Sky High Mike here at WFLC 97.3 with the lunchtime news! Time to sit back and take a break, unless you're a slave, prisoner or worse anyways. First an interesting tidbit, some group's starting to regulate the airwaves like the old FCC. I just got a letter passed town from those traders on the Newport News schooner. Figured I'd fill it out and send it back, don't want to get the ire of any out of state authority, but I'm letting the local chief's know in case any shit goes down, they can be ready.

Now local news! Palm Beach now has power! Unfortunately, as soon as the Turkey Point expansionist team finished patching the wires, anything still wired in and functioning turned on, so.. yeah, Palm Beach is mostly in flames right now. Hopefully that'll die down with the rainstorm impending tonight. If you look north from a high point, you can see the smoke. The Turkey Point team stated officially that once the fires die down, they're going to set up an intern government and get that place habitable again, and they're asking for volunteers to help. All volunteers will receive food, water and supplies provided they work.

That's all the news, I'll leave you back with some music to enjoy your lunch with! Meatloaf with Good Girls go to Heaven, Bad Girls go Everywhere! Aint that the truth!

Hey, hey, hey, it's the Southwestern Psychopath, your mountaneering DJ of dumbassery, MacD! Time for a news break. The multiplex downtown's finally been liberated, and the folks that did it have got the place up and running once again! The projectors that work, they've got movies for the masses. The ones that don't, they've converted the theaters in to, uh... well, theatres. The other spelling, the one that means they'll be putting on plays. Check your weapons at the door, these guys may be movie buffs and thespians, but they're more heavily armed than some of the military types I've seen around. Stay tuned to this station for updates.

You know, my droogs, I've been considering that there origami crane I made. Maybe they won't be so bad. It's not like I don't have all my shit backed up elsewhere. And it's not like I don't have guards, goodness knows. I think I'll scan the fucking thing in and send it off. What's the worst that could happen, aside from my own death, right? News time, boys and girls. Spot of good news. Seems the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, once home all matter of bandits and mutant beasts seems to have to have a set of guardians. A group calling themselves the Royal Rangers have made it their mission to make the gardens a safe haven for anyone who needs it. Bunch of great guys, if not a little odd, seeing as how they use bows and arrows, instead of a good old fashion machine gun. One report even says they've managed to tame a pack of giant mutant bugs.

Well, whatever they use, a big thank you goes out to these guys for helping keeping the good people safe.
