What bothered me was that Beardbeard had clearly become much, much stronger since the first thread, not to mention had a companion who was at least as powerful as him, plus a couple more guys, and still had hard time. If the dragon had been the same in the first thread, we'd've gotten our asses handed to us.

Andrew Loomis is a cartoonist from the 60s or something around there. Who he is isn't important; what IS important is that he wrote a how to draw book that takes you from basic circles up to advanced anatomy in a relatively simple process. The book is "Fun With A Pencil" - you can find it on /rs/.

The important part of that advice, however, is drawing daily. It helps, a lot. Practice practice practice, and also listen when people tell you which parts look fucked up.

I'm with you on that, but my scanner's dead and although the family has a tablet, I've never tried to use it. I'm lazy. :3

I think I've gotten pretty good. I've gone from just drawing clothing in a general shape (which I stopped doing when a friend of mine noted that it "looks like the clothes are just floating there with nobody beneath them" to being minimalistic (mostly sketches and doodles, mostly chibi style,) to drawing ridiculously detailed forms (starting with a stick, then body structure, then details, then hair, then clothing.)

A friend didn't believe me when I told him that I drew my most recent drawing without tracing, so I figure I'm doing pretty good.
