I don't think we were watching the same movie here pal:

Going off of the movie recollection, my experience with WH40k Apoc, a smidgen of info on BFG, and the old Aliens Boardgame:
They were the equivalent of EIGHT stormtroopers, TWO pilots, ONE unmodified and highly advanced combat servitor, with TWO civilian hangers-on, with two heavy bolters (Drake and Vasquez) three flamers that I noted (Wierzbowski, Dietrich, Frost), three Tarantula sentry guns, and bolters with underslung grenade launchers all around, with some assorted stubber pistols. One civilian there in a strictly advisory capacity who had past experience with the foes they /might/ face, they were informed, and an Administratum drone with no combat experience. They found a single equivalent whiteshield that started out unarmed and unarmored. Fourteen humans. Eight suitably equipped and designated combatants.

They had little to no understanding of the tactical situation where they were deployed, and they didn't have so much as an internal map of the complex until they were inside the complex. They were lead by an incompetent commander, and they had two thunderhawk transports at their disposal, carrying only chimeras that could deploy the whole squad and only wielded a single twin-linked heavy bolter. Their only goal upon arrival was to ascertain the situation of the colonists who the company has lost contact with, and reestablish communications. They were unable to contact their single glorified Firestorm Frigate for any sort of lance battery aid and only got the second Thunderhawk down in the last third of the movie. They were to be restricted usage of their flamers and bolter weapons totally in their first engagement, in which most of the casualties were sustained in the entire operation. The leadership was so terrible, the civilian had to drive the chimera into the reactor complex and extract the stormtroopers, after knocking out the Lieutenant of the stormtroopers.

The enemy that they faced was an Apocalypse formation Genestealer Infestation down to the last letter from the Apocalypse Reloaded Codex (excluding the lictors). They face 156 genestealers who in every sense of the phrase, had the drop on the squad of EIGHT stormtroopers, who were again, out there basically unarmed for the beginning of the ambush. There is a Broodlord as well, incredibly powerful, which had at least an extended carapace. All opponents had Acid Blood from the third edition codex: Tyranids. All of them. And lord was it buffed.

By the time the genestealer infestation had been eradicated (along with the complex), the civilian, with the help of the whiteshield acting as an unwitting distraction and the wounded combat servitor as the first target for the broodlord (saving the two humans), the civiilian fought off the Broodlord to a standstill with only a sentinel power lifter. (Imperial Armor Volume One)

That these men managed to accomplish what they did, a job that a squad of terminator Space Marines would be hard-pressed to achieve, under the conditions they faced, is a testament to the endurance of Mankind and the power of the Imperial Guard.

Almost certainly right, but I just settled for the Imperial fliers I knew could deploy vehicles- and after looking at the Dropship from Aliens and the Valkyrie models, you KNOW that the thing would have to be fattened the hell up for deploying a vehicle scale-wise. Though the missile pods do look damned close to the dropship... GW, rip off Aliens? Surely not! Even though that's part of what drew me to the game, of course...

And after typing all that- I think I'll stay up a few more hours and download that movie. It's been too long, Mrs. Weaver. Much too long.

Stats wise, do you guys think the xenomorphs were closer to genestealers or Lictors? They definitely fit fluff wise with genestealers (lolintellectualpropertylol), but that first xenomorph under Ridley Scott was pretty damn sneaky- and all of them were pretty sneaky. And had some famously good cover saves when it was called for.

    > bolters

Pulse rifles are autoguns with explosive ammunition with underslung bolters.
Smartguns are bolters with auto-targeters and a massive magazine.

By all account, this just makes the actions of those Storm Troopers even MORE impressive.
    >> Anonymous 06/29/09(Mon)03:54 No.5037375
    >>5037340

Relatively sure that bolters are rocket propelled explosive ammunition, and the Codex: Ultramarines has underslung grenade launchers listed. In game effect, that matches with the Colonial Marines weaponry- except I don't believe they had any Krak rounds. And dear lord, the Colonial Marines don't need to be any more awesome- at some point, they'd collapse in on themselves from being just too good.

I think I'll go with this one: I remember seeing that Commissar Lords can use Boltguns- total full-level boltguns- in the new IG codex, so there's some humans that can wield them. And again, I have it for matching up to in-game terms. There aren't any autoguns which come with underslung possibilities, but bolters fit to a "T". Also: Exploding rounds, which are armor piercing. The stats of autoguns and stubbers have the weapons as not very armor piercing at all, though in the reactor scene, Gorman specifically mention how the Explosive ammunition shouldn't be used in the reactor (Whoops). It's not a perfect fit, but that's the closest I can match up between Imperial armament. Colonial Marines would be a bit of a midpoint thusly between standard Stormtroopers and Space Marines- though, they did a job I'd have an apocalypse formation of Terminators to do against 156+ genestealers and a blessed broodlord. So statistically they would be stormtroopers with space marine weaponry and ships, but not space marines.... but their rolls were made by the gods themselves.
    >> Anonymous 06/29/09(Mon)04:14 No.5037543

They looked closer to regular flamers, but do you think they worked like heavy flamers?

Ripley definitely had a combi-bolter/flamer(or heavy flamer) with an underslung grenade launcher, however. No armor, crazily enough.

    Xenomorphs = Genestealers
Alien Queen = either Broodlord or Tyranid Warrior. This is up for interpretation. In game terms, I think a Broodlord would be nigh impossible to defeat without a walker of some kind - which I suppose is the point?

    Colonial Marines = Stormtroopers
Pulse Rifles are autoguns with AP5, to remove Xenomorph saves at range. They can otherwise be fired at S4 small template, heavy 1 (underslung grenade launcher).
    Smartguns are S4 AP5 heavy 3/assault 1 with a re-roll to hit.
    Flamers are flamers.

    Colonial Marine Sergeant WS3 BS4 S3 T3 W1 I3 A2 Ld 8 Sv 4+

    Squad Size: Seven
Weapons: Boltgun with Underslung Grenade Launcher (Frag only). Two marines must be equipped with heavy bolters, two must be equipped with flamers. Sergeant is equipped with Vox-caster. One marine may be equipped additionally with a shotgun at +5 points.

    Special Characters
    Colonial Marine Lieutenant Gorman WS3 BS4 S3 T3 W1 I3 A2 Ld7 Sv 4+

Special Rules: Incompetent Command, Redemption Equals Death, Tactical Training

My internet was crapping out, but I have the manual. Don't know how useful this will be but here it is.

M41 Pulse Rifle fires a 10mm x 24 round with a 210 grain (13.6 gram) bullet with a muzzle velocity of 840 m/s and are explosive tipped, it holds 99 of these rounds in a magazine. It has an underslung 30mm grenade launcher with a multitude of grenade types.

The M56 Smart Gun fires a 10mm x 28 round with a 230 grain (14.9 gram) bullet which is also explosive tipped and can be set to either explode on impact for soft targets or upon penetration for armored targets by the gunner.

There's also the M42A Pulse action semi-automatic rifle that we see carried but not used in the movie. Basically a sniper rifle firing the same round as the smart gun.

Marines also carry what is essentially a 1911 in 9mm.

I want to be Apone or Hudson. They were clearly the two superior characters of the film.

I know /tg/ usually doesn't stray much from its board so I will enlighten you on the term used to describe a woman like that. It is called a MILF.

    Indeed.

Hey. Who would you rather pick, Sigourney Weaver or Linda Hamilton?

    Today - Weaver

If I could choose a single point in time, it would be Hamilton during Terminator 2 time.

Which surprises me that pics of her don't get posted on -4 Str threads. Cause GODSDAMN SHE IS HAWT IN THIS PIC!!!

She would have made a great Lara Croft at that time.

I prefer ponytail Lara from Legends and Underworld.

And I could live with those tits, but most everybody else would complain.

Which Lara? The original "sounds like a thirty-year-old" Lara, the new younger-sounding Lara from Underworld, or Whatsherface McLongname from the movies?

    Good god, yes she would.

I hilariously missed a chance to meet her in person at a convention a while ago.

Re-booted canon Laura (Legends, Anniversary and Underworld)

She had a ponytail (not braided) in Legends and Underworld. She had the braided ponytail in Anniversary because it was a remake+ of the first game.

On the one hand, Anniversary changed a LOT of things that didn't need changing. Such as Lara grappling nothing when NATLA pushes her off the ledge.

On the other hand, Jeanette Voerman as NATLA. Win.

You freely admit to detonating the engines of, and thereby destroying, an M-class starfreighter, a rather expensive piece of hardware.

I loved Legend. The story was cool and having your buddies on the com was cool too.

Anniversary was fun for the puzzles but I missed having the guys.

Underworld looked pretty, but Lara got even darker was I felt her alignment shifting towards evil if you get my drift. And I RAGED HARD that they destroyed the mansion. Running around the mansion was one of my favorite parts of the previous two games. This time I wanted to see it with the new engine and NOT on fire.
