The dwarf. The dwarf never changes. Since the dawn of dwarfkind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything, from God to justice to simple, psychotic berserking.
After millennia of armed conflict, the destructive nature of dwarves could sustain itself no longer. The world was plunged into an abyss of magma fuelled fire and heat. But it was not, as some had predicted, the end of the world. Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue to another bloody chapter of dwarven history. For the dwarves of Boatmurdered had succeeded in destroying the world - but the dwarf, the dwarf never changes.
In the early days, thousands were spared the horrors of the magma floods by taking refuge in enormous underground shelters, known as fortresses. But when they emerged, they had only the hell of the wastes to greet them - all except those in the fortress of Boatmurdered. For on the fateful day, when magma flowed across the land, the giant stone doors of Boatmurdered slid closed... and never reopened. Your family was part of the group that entered Boatmurdered. Imprisoned safely behind the large fortress door, under a mountain of stone, a generation has lived without knowledge of the outside world.
Life in the fortress is about to change...

tl;dr: Campaign to explore the world as dwarves, after dwarf-caused apocalypse of lava. Inspiration taken from Fallout, Boatmurdered, and /tg/.

Looking for suggestions, especially for a system other than D&D or GURPS to run this in.

I ran Boatmurdered D&D campaign once.
Players first saw big field of bazalt with occasional iron items sticking out of it.
Then they found huge doors - clogged with bazalt.
They entered through side doors - one near the passage with traps. Most of the traps weren't functioning by that time.
Then they found a starving dog in a room filled with stench of decay (I used screenshot from late Boatmurdered - there was miasma in the room).
After that they got to the main corridor. They saw creepy engravings ("Tentacle demon laughs at dwarf. Dwarf is in fetal position.") and fought dwarf zombie/ghost/thing (houseruled, not much of a threat).
They got to "FUCK THE WORLD" lever, which they didn't pull. Then they fought some goblins, undead Sankis the Beardless and finally an elephant, which kicked main gate open.

    It can be cured.

OP here. There will be a number of dwarf forts that close their doors before the incoming magma pours in. There may be some other races that survive, either by living really high up or having some other manner of survival (there are a few I can think of). Everyone will be a dwarf, of the fighter/rogue/barbarian/ranger/paladin type, in a low magic setting. I am just gonna have a ball. I will crack open DF and make a couple dungeons with it. Yah, they will take a while, but after I use 'em I can enlarge 'em and change it a bit for a new map. Ah love it!

Personally, I feel the mundane is more heroic in WHFRP than the heroic itself.

Something about saving a village with a bunch of streetbrawlers and drunks from beastmen that's incredibly heroic, even if three of your buddies died to typhus, and your girl just died giving birth to your child, and you can see giants rising up above the treetops and can hear a faint "WAAAAAAGH" in the distance.

It was pretty epic and emotional.

    I thought about doing a post-Boatmurdered (Koganusan, I think it's called in dorf-nonsense).

Imagine a new settling of the Boatmurdered we have come to love and fear. Dwarf resettling the horrid chambers and halls of boatmurdered, trying to re-establish the glory of the early fortress. You know, the twelve seconds before everything turned into ELEPHANTS AND MAGMA.

Of course, the sheer spirit of Boatmurdered seeps out from the horrible engravings, and the screams of Sankis, the Lich Engraver, begin to emanate from caved-in corridors. After a few years, the new Boatmurdered is on edge, fearful and wrought with the guilt of what they may have resurrected.

The bright dreams of resurrecting one of the most famed fortresses in dwarven history has turned into a lovecraftian nightmare of screams, paranoia and ghost elephants trampling through the meeting halls, echoes of unholy trumpeting mixing with the insane whispers of the Master of the Place: The Unholy Sankis.

If done as RPG, the players could be representatives of the mountainhome, who arive to liase with the inhabitants of Koganusan. Expect to not live. And to hate Elephants.

Good spirits could be some of the other rulers of the first boatmurdered, but Sankis should either be the BBEG or at least someone the players can align with in order to flood the fortress with lava and release him from his eternal torment.

A torment that mostly consists of engraving images of his own failure.

An added NPC could be a mysterious dwarf female, who tuns out to be the last survivor of the first boatmurdered.

I was more thinking of the PC's occasionally hearing sweet nothings whispered to them in the dark, their torches/supplies being stolen, waking up to find the walls covered in bloody, inane messages, etc.

Eventually, they would find her, only a shadow of a dwarf, thin and strong and very sober. She would be a legendary wrestler from having to fend off the other horrors in the dark, and all she can think about is how best to "play" with her new toys.

She would be a naked mass of tangled, dirty, bloody hair and huge muscles.

Also DON'T allow players to use any kind of projectile weapons. They penetrate anything.

Alternatively, allow everything to be used as projectile. If a player removes his shoe and sock and throws the sock at an elephant it should do max damage.
