You are an abomination steadily spreading across a back-street alley in the middle of some distant city. For now a single squad of black-suited men could exterminate the threat you pose to the universe. But those men were a long way coming. For now? You are the leech upon local resources.

    A parasite.

    News on woodworm plan?
    >> Metamind 08/14/09(Fri)11:33 No.5451918
    Current resources:

Virus hardcoded with EM communication, infectious bite, enhanced cortex, and automatic flying tic production.

4 Host-Rodents, each with the listed mutations above. They also contain 1kg of Biomass, and are all listed at Average for their energy supplies. Each rodent also has six "tending tics" that ensure it is fed and aid in biomass gathering.

2 rodents are above ground, 2 are in the sewers collecting waste.

There is one Queen Tic in the restaurant connected to the starting alley, controlling six pregnant tics that are producing workers that provide a steady 2 kg/hour stream of biomass.

There are three vagrants at the end of the alley, one of which is comatose and two of which are about to be assaulted by human-oriented infection tics.

Spending five kilograms, six of the foul vermin are produced by your glorious first host, now modified to extravagant heights of power. They quickly latch onto the homeless men, injecting them with a constant stream of your glorious form as they begin to itch furiously. If the infectors remain attached, the humans will be fully infected within the day. If they detach, the humans will fall under your sway within a week.

Their unconscious companion is being drained from the inside by the escort-tics of your two above-ground rodents, zipping back and forth with sacs filled with fresh DNA for processing into biomass. Three kilograms gained!

    Total Biomass: 4kg
    Average Energy: Average
    Time: Five A.M.

For one extra kilogram of biomass, a batch three woodworms can be spawned with natural EM communication for a grand total of 2kg (1kg for the modification itself and spawning+1kg for the EM communication).

It takes about half an hour to locate a woodworm finally, but it is quickly infected by the tics and smuggled into the alley. The bums, consumed with their constant itching and odd bouts of delusions, do not take notice as it is brought before the two rats that have yet to leave their alley for any reason. They nudge the nearly-dead body of their companion a few times before taking various items off of his unmoving mass. Thankfully they do not take any of his precious biomass! 1kg of biomass is expended to make the woodworm's burrowing power hardwired into all worm and tic-based minions.

    >>5452053
One of the tics flies high above, and a stray cat is indeed spotted prowling along one of the distant alley ways further back. It is currently sniffing through the garbage, alone.

    >>5452087
Another kilogram is spent to make the pheromones standard. No doubt more rats will soon be drawn by the powerful odor coming from the alley: The smell of cheese /always/ lured the little bastards.

    >>5452117
Already produced. I should have mentioned that in my resources post. Spores were laid down yesterday, and a small amount of fungus is growing now along the back of the alley. If harvested now, you could collect about 1kg of Biomass. If left to grow, however, it'll continue to accumulate.

(If there's anything I missed, feel free to point it out)

Once we have infected the tramps, can we use biomass to reshape their features (and general trampiness), thus allowing them to integrate into society?

You have successfully produced your first working wormwood minion. They are still too simple for independent function, and as such a rat would be best for them to properly consume everything they need. However, their biomass-production ability is almost unrivaled when given access to sufficient quantities of wood.

Note: Symptoms shown in the hobo virus-test-subjects range from mild delusions to fever, as well as mild stomach cramps if their grunting is any indication.

Is this correct? Because, if so, it will take two hours to collect the necessary biomass. It will take 2kg to refit the cat in such a way, and 3kg to create the small tree that was mentioned before.

Right. Assuming we're a parasite, I'm going to list what should and should not be possible.
OP may override this however he pleases, but I'm thinking:

The Parasite should have EM, or have an EM-capable virus symbiotic with itself. The parasite should not be in direct control of the viral evolution.
Rodents as carriers: doing it right
Ticks as carriers: doing it right
Worms as carriers: doing it right
Draining humans of their biomass while the humans are still alive: doing it very right

The parasite should be able to hold and perhaps grow viruses, but it should not be able to develop new ones, or produce a virus in an otherwise clean unit.
We shouldn't be able to control evolution, but should be able to infect woodworms (or anything else), and have the woodworms eat and reproduce normally.

A parasite should not be able to rewire DNA.
It should, however, be able to affect the growth of infected creatures.
    >>5451945
We should not be able to infect wood unless we get a creature that can live inside of and eat wood - and get that creature next to the wood.
However we can easily get some small mammal or insect to hide in wood.
    >>5451953
Parasites cannot "develop" new strains of virii. They do not control evolution. They can, however, hold viruses, grow viruses, and wait for the viruses to develop normally. We could create SuperAIDS by assimilating an AIDS virus, and consuming various medicines (or taking over the body of a creature that creates such chemicals).

In a display of horrible mutagenics, a small piece of shrubbery was produced. Its green leaves were a tad too shiny, each one full to bursting with biomass. The blades of grass it once held root in were consumed by the morass of fungus, the spores filling the air around the parasites as a small artificial jungle sprung up around the alley-fortress.

In the meantime, Mister Fluffy was wrought anew in the forges of your glorious form's powers. Biomass engulfed it like some horrific ooze, the new creation absolutely adorable, burdened with "child", and turned into a soulless infection factory. All that was left was to guide it into the park and wait for unsuspecting children to invite a future of loyalty.

Yes. You can control a rat's body to the extent that it attracts other rats. You can't, however, make a Cat attract rats, as that's something a cat's body cannot do.

    >1 Get Biomass from Photosynthesis.
Technically this only grants energy, but biomass can be materialised from this, air, and soil. That'd make our parasite more of a lichen or fungus, in addition to its current mammal-infecting ability.
    >2 Release spores that cultivates the ground/earth for any form of fungus or plant life.
    Doable.
    >3 Devours the nutrients in the ground and converts to biomass.
    Doable.
    >4 Feeds on local plants, weed style, and converts them to biomass.

One or more flying ticks latches onto a human or several humans to carry them to another district with the order to infect more. Preferably nothing outside the half mile control radius. As we are nearing the time when we spread to as many as possible this would seem to align with the cat goal although on a different scale. Less likelihood of infection but more chances of it. Quantity over quality so to speak.

Three hours pass by, the infectious ticks doing their work more beautifully than expected: Having latched onto their vagrant prey, the men were slowly starting to come into line. There was not /nearly/ as much struggling compared to when they had been first infected, the constant injection of the parasite eroding their defenses.

Meanwhile, Fluffy the Destroyer had found himself several human children that felt all-too-comfortable hugging the "Adowable kitteh!" in their midst. Infants were the best of the targets, though the majority were children in the eight-to-twelve range. So far eight human victims had been made, all of them eventually going to become hosts for your glorious new form.

Your shrubbery at this point is collecting glorious amounts of energy to convert to biomass, the fungus doing their work quite nicely as well. The woodworms and their semi-sentient queen add their own lot to the gathering resources. Several benches were now hollow, an ten kilograms of biomass added in their stead.

There is now twenty five kilograms of biomass stored by your loyal hosts. A glorious sum indeed!

Ah, I was just curious, personally, until we have our spread on a national or international I think every action should be with keeping carefully.

That said. If we DID make a tree, how much would it cost to make it work like a reciver and transmitter to increase the hivemind to a much larger scale? Just so we have something to strive for.

Whatever happened to the sewer rats anyway? nobody's mentioned them for a while. They should be slowly ganging up and converting other rats, gaining a pack large enough to swarm other animals

Pandemic II reference. It's a game where you design a virus/bacterium/parasite and infect the world.

Madagascar has a nasty habit of shutting down all methods of entry, essentially rendering the game unwinnable if you didn't start off in there or you dont infect them before somebody starts showing symptoms.

    >>5453383
They don't even have to show symptoms. You just have to infect a large number of people.

They shut down the port, the ONLY port, the ONLY way of entrance to Madagascar, relatively quickly.

    >>5453321
Indeed I did. You can mix inorganic bits with your organic bits however you want. Just need the materials on hand, and the biomass to work with.

    >>5453325
Well, define "much larger" scale. If you're looking for something city-wide, it'll be a VERY large tree and resource-intensive. But as it stands, this 25kg boon of biomass is pretty much a "one kickass project free" card (within sane limitations, of course).

Let's say we're discovered and then I don't want us to not have an escape plan or are unable to deal with it. The transmitter would be so we could contaminate someone on a flight to somewhere and we could still be in contact.

    Oh right.

With a sharp hiss, the sensory systems of the host organisms began to evolve. Control was much easier now, the creatures more obedient as their sensory organs began to rapidly evolve. Biomass transformed into additions to their current sensory organs, the magnetic pulses stretching out for a solid mile as they increased the radius of their near-telepathic hivemind.

To detect the flow of blood in a target, however, would require much more focused evolutionary aids in the host rodents. In particular, thermal imagery usually contained within machines. Such an evolution would require four kilograms to enact.

    >>5453525
Pretty much winged it with Iron Quest and a faint like of how the Zerg were portrayed: Ever-evolving abominations that incorporate anything and everything into their anatomy. This is pretty much entirely driven by your choices and ideas, to be honest.

Now, a new thread will come up...archiving of this one would be appreciated.
