-There is now an Origin Path system that provides more choices than just homeworld. It provides an opportunity for your party to share common backstory.
-Several old talents have been fixed or buffed. Such as Bulging Biceps also allows you to ignore the penalty for firing unbraced.
-New weapons include the Storm Bolter and the Harelquins Kiss (See next post). Plasma and Meltaguns are buffed. Digital Weapons and Suspensors are also present and are insanely powerful.
-Psykers are using a heavily revised system and Navigators use a different system again and don't have psy ratings.

    >Psychic Power System<
In brief psychic powers now sometimes require a willpower test to activate. Before you test willpower (usually with a healthy bonus due to your Psy Rating) yoyou decide on Fettered (half psy rating) Unfettered (full psy rating) and Push (where you can add 1-3/4 Psy rating).

Fettered is safe to use but the other two come at increased chance of Perils of the Warp. It is further divided into Astopaths and Sanctioned Psykers being bettter off than Renegade psykers and Sorcerers.

The Origin paths are a chart that starts at Homeworld, and ends at Motivation, although a casual read makes it appear that Careers are part of it. DON'T BE FOOLED.

    Here's how it looks:

    -Homeworlds A B C D, etc
    -Birthrights A B C D, etc
    -Lure of the Void A B C D, etc
    -Trials and Travails A B C D etc
    -Motivation A B C D etc

    Here's how it works:

Choose a homeworld, then choose a birthright that is directly below the homeworld on the chart, or adjacent to the option directly below it. Rinse and repeat. For example, a player picks Homeworld A. He may take Birthright A or B, and selects B. He may Select Lures A B or C, and selects C. He may now take Trials B C or D. He selects Trial B, and may finish off with motivation A B or C.

Profit Factor is a measure of your wealth, resources and so on. The scale runs up to 150. I can't remember all the examples the fa/tg/uy who went to GenCon posted, but Profit 5 is a Hive Gang and Profit 150 is one of The Powers That Be of the Imperium.

Playable Xenos races have all been confirmed as being on the way. Kroot appear in the core book, along with ork freebootas and eldar corsairs. And their ships.

How you have outfitted your ship affects what sort of Endeavours are most profitable for you. For example, if you've got a load of cargo space then Endeavours which set up new trade routes will earn you bonus profit. You can also outfit your ship to confer other benefits, such as turning the interior into a holo-maze to confuse and disorientate boarders.

There seems to be a much greater emphasis on PCs supporting each other. In DH your talents were very much only of benefit to you. In RT there are several talents and special abilities which bolster your allies.

A mass combat system exists, the primary use presumably being boarding actions.

Murder Servitors: skull faced killing machines which you teleport onto the enemy ship.

    In control, I expect.

    A few other final tidbits.

Rogue Trader characters are THE most important people on that ship. As a Missionary you are the spiritual leader of thousands. As the Explorator you are the most senior Tech-Priest onboard. The Arch-Militant is a veteran of a hundred battles. The Void Master is the premier expert on all matters relating to void ships and the most skilled in the use of them.

Rogue Trader is not due out in the shops until 4 weeks after GenCon.

More information that I might have missed can be found here: http://rapidshare.com/files/264185654/D6GEpisode37_DH-RT_relevant.mp3

The profit by mission seem to be more or lose 10. In the scale the fa/tg/uy at gen con stated that the poorest Rogue Trader has 50.

So, in ten Endeavours you can become one of the most powerful people in the Imperium?

Given the difference in durability between orks and humans it seems possible that orks would find half of the systems on a human ship utterly superfluous.

I like the idea of keeping the Eldar navigator around, though. He'd be like the doctor in the Authority; always walking on the bridge in his nightgown or bathrobe, always on heroin, listening to bad loud music and keeping everyone else awake. But he's necessary, and the captain (Who I assume is a take-charge kind of human) has to walk a fine line between keeping him on task and stopping him from realizing that he's the only one who can do his job and therefore can do whatever the fuck he wants and everyone else has to suck it up.

More like brings up up to the same power level, let's them be Interrogators, Inquisitors and so on. That said, starting RT characters are about as potent as mid-rank 5 acolytes.

The captain should be relatively smart, charming, and brave, a human, but unlike must humans in 40k he tends to assume most xenos are decent people, much to the chagrin of the rest of his crew as they have to deal with the other motley aliens we've been discussing on this thread.

"Captain, if that ork steals the shuttle repair parts again I fucking swear I'll..."

"Crewman, calm down. I understand that you may find his methods of ship repair inconvenient at best and heretical at worst, but out here, there's no place for racial prejudice. Just try and accept the mechanic for who he is, and I'm sure he'll do the same. If you both respect each other, what else is there to say?"

they sell it to tired slaves of the Imperium, they sell it to stressed out Tau, they sell it to the Eldar who use it as a training aid to help the young Seers.

he has extremely dangerous psyker abilities (Bata-Alpha Level Psyker skills) but can not do anything big or the chaos gods will notice him and send Things after him.

on several ocasion the Captain (may i sugest a Brian Blessed type charecter?) can spot him in the background of a vidio transmition picked up from a planet or another ship. unfortunately you do not realise what you have seen untill sometime afterwards, and you can never find the wretched floor scraper to ask untill after you have forgoten what it is you want to ask.

this thing as the head of xeno-linguistics. he translates everything.

the only known Necron to throw off the shackles of the C'tan.

no one knew what Necrons were when they let him on the ship, all they knew as that the eldar crew member all ran to the other end of the ship.

very dipressed all the time. thinks he is on a ship full of idiots.

It's the most accessible, especially these days where nobody wants to be the little guy scrabbling for survival against horrible odds. Well, except those guys complaining about the new WFRP.

Some podcast guy put it best. Where before you didn't have a choice between playing a low power, fight for survival game and a heroic, galaxy changing epic you've now got both flavours available. That they're fully compatible with each other is just a bonus.

    closest In my opinion is:

    >I kinda have the idea of a former sister of battle as captain. At some point she lost her faith most of her hatred, but the latter boils up every once in a while. The tricked out melta she carries around offers her more chances then most to be reasonable, and she's more then battle hardened enough keep those under her in line.

even if I do like me some inglorious bastard, the SoB has some great story possibilities.

so far the most entertaining idea i can think of and make work is a heretical (not the typical, RIP AND TEAR, JUST AS PLANNED, FUCK EVERYTHING I SEE twice, DEATH AND DECAY, kind of chaos heretical, just heretical enough) band of mercs put together as an extreme comically functional crew.

    The Cook: Kroot named Cookie

The Weapon's Specialist: A tau that was dishonorably discharged for his high resistance to the ethereal caste's mind control, and his unusual capitalistic views

The mechanics: A mekboy and techpriest, the mekboy works on the ship's weaponry, the techpriest works on the ship's general hull

The "janitor": A daemon host that has possesed a ship maintenance servitor

Combat A.I. system: It controls the combat servitor(s), and is called G.I.R. find something that G.I.R. stands for and it's all good

The navigator: A blazed, high, drunk, eldar farseer that was kicked out of farseeing school for his bad habits, still a grade A farseer though, just a wee-bit off at times.

The translator: A seemingly sentient Necron. He has no beef with the eldar but the eldar gets creeped out and moody if he is near. The necron just kind of is along for the ride

The Captain: I like the idea of cultist chan being the captain, just because no one really hates her, she's a kid, and hell, the shits and giggles that would ensue from her being captain would be quite well, shitty and giggly .......

Kroot, apparently, have Unnatural Strength, Unnatural Perception, Natural Weapon (beak) and several talents focused around speed.

Another note: most critical ship damage results are disabling in nature, not resulting in the outright destruction of a vessel. Piracy is definitely an option.
