The night passes without incident. The three girls sleep through until just before daybreak before you decide it is time to keep moving. Vlad will likely come for his payment soon, and with how fickle a person he is you don't want to be here when he retrieves the flamethrower and treasures left on the table. Slowly shaking the three awake, you get some water into them from the water cooler on the wall and make them wash their faces in the bathroom sink as you consider your situation (Alice excused. The blue bandages across her face and eye are stained with blood).

You know it snowed through the night, the tiny window in the toilet is banked with white to a tiny sliver. Hopefully you won't have to lead everyone through too much space outside today, the three girls are only in nightgowns or pyjamas and probably wouldn't be able to walk too long.

You sit on the couch in the break room. To your left is the doorway out to the roof where Vlad fired on you and the three girls. The thought of the dead woman and the Anna clone still sicken you, but looking at your bloodstained right arm you are unsure if your dislike of him borders on hypocrisy (trying to kill you aside).
To your right is the barricaded stairwell leading down to a closed white door. The light was on all night, and you are sure that nothing came or went.
The table is empty apart from the near-empty jar of lolipops and what was promised to Vlad in exchange for blonde Anna's life.
After a moment the girls have finished up in the bathroom and return, looking for you to lead the way.

Awesome, I was hoping you'd come on today.

Now. I guess hand out the remaining lolipops to the three girls, and eat one ourself. It may not be much, but we should eat something
    >> Gemini 08/23/09(Sun)02:54 No.5559933
    >>5559878

Digging out the bottom of the jar, you take the last of Vlad's lolipops and hand the two reds to the Annas and the blue to Alice. Mumbling thank-yous, the three start into them as you look at your own: a deep, dark purple. It tastes of grapes, in an unpleasant way. Normally you wouldn't eat such cheap and nasty candy, but it will do for breakfast until you can find something better.

You attempt to hail Vlad, but there is silence after you release the button. Perhaps that's for the best.

As you turn your back on the box, a burst of static hacks through the air. The communication is heavily distorted, but between the metallic squeals and white noise you can hear a garbled woman's voice. The words are indecipherable, and after eight seconds the line goes dead. You try to respond, to no avail.

    >>5560002

    Shit...

Alright. Get the girls together and move the stairwell barricade aside before descending and going through the door, pipe in our good hand ready to bash anything that tries to rush us through the door.
    >> Gemini 08/23/09(Sun)03:12 No.5560124
    >>5560062

Telling the girls to be good and quiet behind you, with a slow turn and a quick barge you slam the door open, in case something (or someone) was upon the other side.

The hallway is a surprise. In contrast to the carpeted breakroom, there isn't even paint over the concrete walls. Steam pipes run along the hallways in both directions, the occasional warning sign telling you not to touch them. To the left, the corridor continues past a series of tinted windows which you cannot see through from this angle before stopping at more downward stairs, and to the right the hall ends in a left corner. 'SERVICE ELEVATOR' is signed on the wall, with an arrow pointing around the bend.

The room is humid, a nice change from the near-external room you spent the night huddled together in.

    >>5560278

You set off along the corridor, bootsteps echoing down the corridor in both directions. Tounding the corner, you see the service elevator with closed doors at the end. Above the door you can see a bright red dial shining out the number 4. You assume that's where the elevator is now, but who knows?
In front of the elevator is a crashed cart full of laboratory tools, a mutilated corpse in a labcoat sprawled behind. You can't see his face, but as you approach you hear blonde Anna squeal in alarm as the Geiger counter starts ticking erratically.
    >> Anonymous 08/23/09(Sun)03:40 No.5560361
Grab the girls and get the fuck out of there. We can't save them if they all have radiation sickness.

    Go back the other way.
    >> Gemini 08/23/09(Sun)03:51 No.5560451
    >>5560361

Shouting for the three to fall back you quickly beat a retreat down the hallway, making sure that everyone is alright before following the steam pipes down the corridor and past the door to the break room's stairwell.

As you approach the windows you find that they seem to have been treated with one-way mirroring. Not able to see within, you lead further on, coming to the stairwell.

As you are about to descend, you hear another burst of static from inside the room with the mirrored windows, the woman's voice calling out again through the scrambled signal. It sounds clearer than it did, but you can't hear it well enough from out here in the hallway.

Perhaps if you broke the window you would be able to contact her. But who knows what is inside the room, or even if you will be able to respond. It may be safer to descend the stairs and continue on.

Leave it. I'm not risking our three girls by irreversibly making a hole into a room which could be filled with ANYTHING for the sake of a garbled communication which could be from anyone. Shit, it could even be another of Vlad's games, trying to get us to get eaten by slimes or something.

    Keep going.

You ignore the communication and guide the girls down the stairs. There are too many unknowns for you to charge in.

As you descend, working flouros become scarce. Darkness envelops the four of you, occasionally broken by a flickering tube. Concentrating intently upon the stairs ahead, you keep an ear out for any movement.

Suddenly, your right foot doesn't find a stair. Shouting out, you scramble about and barely grab onto the stair-rail bolted into the wall. The flickering light down lower shows a long hole into darkness, where the building has collapsed away. You have no idea how deep it is, or what is in the depths below. The girls scream out to you as you right yourself on the lip of the drop, calming when you tell them you are alright.

Find away to bypass this area. It's too unstable...
    >> Gemini 08/23/09(Sun)04:27 No.5560787
    >>5560746

Retreating up the stairs to the light once more, you take a breather. You need to descend the building to reach the carpark (which you assume is on or under the ground floor), but the building seems to be a honeycomb.

Trying to think rationally, you hear the message through the tinted windows again. You believe you can hear a word or two, but nothing revealing intent. You aren't sure of her tone.

You ponder your possible choices: try and descend the unstable areas, break the window or backtrack across the roof, all the way back to your cell and hope the monster is gone.

None of them is particularly appealing.

Descend the unstable areas. They would probably be safe from monsters and such, because things like that would not dare to go there.
    >> Anonymous 08/23/09(Sun)04:31 No.5560828
Okay, I'm going to go ahead and just voice my idiocy. I don't know how severe radiation sickness is (I know you can die from it, but I don't know at what point).

Is radiation sickness a bad enough thing that going to the service elevator isn't feasible?
    >> Gemini 08/23/09(Sun)04:36 No.5560881
    >>5560816

Slowly you descend the stairs again, telling the girls to walk a little behind you and to run back if they feel any tremors. The black claims you again, and as it does you slow down to a crawl, until you can see the great pit in front of you. On the other side you can see the stairwell descending away, but you cannot see how deep the pit goes, nor what is at the bottom.

We lack ther knowledge to measure dangers. Anyway, it depends on many factors and in our current situation, even level I radiation sickness would be lethal.

    Better not take that risk.

I don't see anything on our person readily flammable... maybe tear off more of our shirt or the nightdress that one of the Annas is wearing and make a weak Molotov out of the last of the Vodka?

Tearing a little material off Alice's nightgown, you have her create the molotov for you, instructing her so that you don't light yourself on fire when you light it. She works diligently, and before long you return to the brink of the dark pit and light the first match. It flickers a little, but ignites the rag as you touch it and drop it down.

The vodka bottle crashes onto rubble and ignites two stories below, flames illuminating a dark section of the shopping mall. Around the rubble is dark water, the above door signs of a shop semi-submerged against the far wall from you.

Looking about quickly, you think that you could climb down the rubble to your right, although you don't know just how stable it is.
