You are a colonel in the British Army during World War II. You and several others have been captured by the Axis forces, and have been moved into a German Prisoner of War camp. Your regiment consists of 300 men. All of different backgrounds.

All these men have previously escaped, or attempted to escape from other camps, so this camp has been built specifically to "Keep all the rotten eggs in one basket". Your mission is to either try and get as many men to neutral or allied ground as possible, or keep the Axis forces tied up looking for them, making for less Germans on the home front. Men of notable use within your regiment are:

    Two forgers
    Five tunnelers
    One scrounger
    One surveyor
    Two metalworkers
    One engineer
    One security expert
    Three tailors
    One escape artist (solo)

The rest of the man can work under any of these men, but the task will take longer, or will be of a lower standard. The men cannot work under the Forgers or the scrounger, due to the complexity of the task.

The camp you have been placed in has ten buildings in the main area, each of them can bed thirty men and contains stoves that may be used to heat food or boil kettles. Building number nine contains your office, building number ten is plumbed, and contains the showers. In the courtyard there is a large patch of soil, to be used for growing crops. There is also a line of benches and a trough that is also plumbed, to be used for cleaning dishes and drinking water. Around the main area is a wire ten feet away from the wall surrounding the camp, anyone found crossing that wire will be punished.

There is also a solitary confinement building, or "cooler" attached to the camp. It can hold twenty people at a time. There are four guard towers around the complex, and there are several Nazis patrolling the grounds. the guard towers are armed with heavy machine guns and searchlights. The Nazis are armed with machine guns.

    In the stores you have:

    600 tins of tea leaves
    1200 packets of cigarettes
1200 rations in tins (one ration lasts one man a week)
    300 spare uniforms
Writing materials for sending letters home, all letters are screened.
Digging implements, they may not be taken into the buildings, and must be used for gardening or excersize.

supplies are due from the red cross in a month

Leading from the entrance is a gravel road. Surrounding three sides of the camp is a dense wood.

    Your orders, colonel?

Tell 10 men to write a letter home about something really obscure and strange.
Like "Remember the potatoes needs to be dug up and replanted on the south side of the house. SOUTH SIDE!"
No codes or anything but it makes the guards focus on thoes 10 men more than on the rest of us. Important for theese men to have been working together, from the same city or some other ties as well as being competent.

Also a question, how high is the fence and is there some kind of schedule we need to follow?

    We begin slowly.
Let's get those five tunellers digging.
We do this by taking the boards down,
and hide the hole when not being dug.

We play the game carefully, waiting for the people to come back.
The dirt can be put into the garden patch, or flushed down. make sure we know how much can be flushed down at a time,

Try to dig at least by the thick trees.
And before escaping, must wait for the rest of the regiment to come back from the cooler.

tunnel to the northern gt then have your best man climb the tower and take the guard out while the others book it to the closest forest line.

This will take considerably less time to make the tunnel so short and having one man still dressed as a nazi in the tower will keep up appearances.

once everyone is in the line the man in the tower can either wait to be relieved if he is fluent in german and their procedures and has disposed of the corpse into the tunnel or can make a break for it after every on else is gone.

The goal would then be to split east and west and fan out that way leaving the north and most obvious route empty

    Why don't we combine everything?
We get the tailors to line the pockets for dirt removal, and prepare something to dig.
try to get 2 scalpels, that means when we get to the northern gp, one very skilled guy can quietly kill both guards. Two more people go up, pretend to be the guards, the guns can go down and.. hmm.. not sure what from there,
we'd have to act quickly, but we do have two guns.

    >>5655769
Yea. But escape how? We need to have some way to get either over the fence, or through the gate.
Can we carry one bed and throw it at the fence and then use it as a sort of makeshift bridge?

One of your men attempts to hit on the gay guard, the guard quickly gets distressed and puts your man in the cooler. Remember, the Nazis didn't like gays.

It is now 10PM, you are all locked inside the buildings. You can only get orders to the people in your building. All of the specialists are in there, with the exception of one metalworker, who escaped. Do you wish to continue in the morning? or do some crafty work at night?

we don't have the tools to make the gardens bigger YET.
We get them back in one week.

We need to either, smuggle them into the houses, (which is a bad idea, it'll be found that it's missing quickly.) or we need to improvise.

We have our hands/tea tins... to dig!
the empty tins can also store any dirt/smuggle them to the garden.

I'll take the silence as a notice that you wish to wait until the morning. Upon awakening, the men are all beginning to hear stories of a tunnelling operation. The doctor should arrive at midday. A covered truck arrives, inside it is the metalworker who escaped. The other man was shot and killed.

Ask the metalworker how far he got,
    etc etc.
Seems to me we're going to have to try to pretend to be nazis, get a truck and ferry them,

    OR:
    kill all the nazis.

Killing is a bit tricky unless we manage to get guns.
The tunnel will ahve to wait a week.
The fence seems our ebst immdiate option, I second the motion to ask the metalworker.

The metalworker describes his journey, about four hours away from the camp is a small village where he got captured.

The Germans have decided to show a little trust, and have given back the tools, they will be watching them carefully however, and it is highly advised that you use them for the intended purpose. Anyone caught misusing the tools or taking them inside the buildings will be placed in the cooler for a month.

The doctor arrives, you manage to swipe his bag without him noticing. He concludes that you are not ill and leaves.

    Inside his bag:

Wallet with ID, Money, photographs, train ticket
    Bottle of paracetamol tablets
    Stethoscope
    Silver pocket watch
Syringe and a bottle of anaesthetic

The bag is made from leather.

You have a dinner appointment at 7 tonight. The commandant is looking forward to sorting out some sort of way that you can all sit out the war peacefully.

It is now 2, perhaps it is time to start digging that tunnel? where will it start and what direction will it go in? Any other details?

The metalworkers have been at work on the tins from the rations. They have found that they can make basic shovels with them. Now all you need is a pick, to get through the tougher materials.

Because the greenery of the potato plant contains deadly nightshade. Extract the juices, put them a container, and poison food!
