    301 KB Soul-Eater, Chapter II The Watcher 09/05/09(Sat)21:11 No.5738829
You feel the Lord's eye as you thrash in your sleep, your naked form writhing against the dusty stone of His sacred cavern. You have been His prophet for less than a day, and your spirit is being changed by His influence. Utin is not a kind god, but His power is exceptionally enthralling.

Awakening before dawn, you feel significantly refreshed from your rest. Your garb of flame has long since disappeared, as has the burning crown you wore, but the flames guarding the entrance to the cave still remain.

The stars, Utin's eyes, still linger faintly in the sky as you emerge from your sanctuary. The air is cool and damp in the grove, the corpses of the villagers you slew still curled in the blackened moss, their flesh so destroyed by your fire that they are no longer recognizable.

"Too long has my presence been absent from your reality. I demand that you enlighten your kin to my existence, and let them know me. I do not care if I am loved or feared, only that I linger in the depths of their souls."

The words still echo in your spirit, deep and pure.

    ------------------

Your name is Harvey. You are a girl of approximately 18 years of age.
You are the prophet of the Elder God Utin.
You have significant control over the element of Fire.

(Chapter I is on suptg. Sorry about missing last night.)

You return to the village, finding it empty. The townspeople are presumably preaching of Utin or you to the inhabitants of Unvurn.

There is a few trade carts further down the road, and you realize that you are still naked. A quick dash into your house on the outskirts of town garners you a simple tunic and skirt, as well as a travel satchel with about a days worth of food, water, and other necessities.

You look very much like a peasant, and much less intimidating than your previous regalia of Utin's holy flame.

A brief moment of thought, and you come to the conclusion that your magical clothing must have disappeared from lack of attention. You can't fathom why this did not affect your other spell, though.

You look for a sheep, but they must have wandered off to the hills north of the village. You have no idea how to find them, as you were more of a potato farmer during your career as a peasant waif.

You have no idea what a beholder is, let alone how to recruit one.

Unvurn is a quarter-day's walking to the east. It is a large city with a population of nearly 10,000 humans, as well as a scattering of Noble Elves and Iron Dwarves.

The only other settlement you can recall is a Mountainhall of Stone Dwarves far to the west. You have never been outside of your tiny village, so you are generally unaware of the geography of your world.

You vacillate between searching for the Stone Dwarves' home and visiting Unvurn. While you are lost in thought, the traders' wagons approach closer. There are three of them, each with a team of two horses, and a few moderately-armed human guards travel with them. A grim-looking Grey Elf drives the first wagon.

Your hands ignite, and a few of the guards fall to the ground screaming as their clothing and skin begins to burn. However, the Grey Elf seems unaffected, and he gracefully leaps from his cart. The other seven mercenaries move up behind their master, and he looks at you with arrogance only an elf could muster.

"So," he calls from a reasonable distance, "you've found the blessings of what I presume is Utin. Interesting. Now, as it appears you are nothing more than a bumbling peasant, and a /human/ one at that, I would like to inform you of one thing:

"We Grey Elves have long been abandoned by the high powers of this world. We have no temples, no ceremonies, no priests. We once worshipped the Moon-Lady, and she betrayed us in our time of need. We adapted to this loss, and now we are one of the few races who can dare to defy the gods.

"Now, deal with her, so that we may make it to Unvurn before the market's close," he orders, and draws a sharp-looking blade. The guards charge at you, roaring in anticipation of bloodshed.

You create a wall of flame, though in your current state, it is not strong enough to do anything but mildly sear the men rushing toward you. You feel none of the same fury towards these men that you felt toward your peers.

All but two of the guards recoil at the heat, and one of the imbeciles that attempted to push his way through the fire blundered. He screams as he rolls on the ground, the metal of his chainmail armor conducting the heat and scalding his torso. You attempt to grapple with the final guard, a tall, rather cruel looking man who quickly throws you to the ground with a wave of his arm.

The Grey Elf is smiling through the flames, his features weirdly distorted by the heat.

    "I...I don't...know."

You can still remember your mother with silent tears trickling down her face as she tells you of your father. You had confronted her after the village children had called you piercing names, and she did not even have the grace to enlighten you with dignity.

Now you serve Utin, and with His power, your anger became power. With a surge of passion, you leap to your feet, narrowly avoiding a swipe from the guard's axe, and you unleash a blast of heat on his face. He falls back, too destroyed to even scream.

Your peasant's garb dissipates as flame entwines over your bare skin. A halo of fire appears over your head, Utin's bloody eye enshrined in crimson flame above your head, and a blade of fire emerges from your fist. The elf's eyes widen as he views your splendor, and the guard's nervously hold back as the fires separating you from them fade away.

Cleansing fire emerges from the mouths and eyes of three guards as you confront them. Molten tears pour from their ducts as their organs liquify from heat and their skin erodes to reveal a fiery core of bone and flame.

The remaining two guards flee, and the two human merchants run with them. The horses drawing the carts are terrified by the smell of burning flesh, and their attempts to retreat only result in overturning the carts. The screams of the beasts are loud and shrill.

The elf stays, however. Dawn is breaking behind you, and the light of the sun falls upon his resolute visage. "You know..." he whispers, "I did not believe the Elder-Druids when they told me that the Elder Gods were the incarnation of our people's doom and hatred. But now..."

He takes one step forward. "I can see their teachings in the light of this rising sun. You shall not live to see the stars of your dead god's realm, human."

He lunges at you with supernatural speed only an elf could muster.

"My God is far from the clutches of death, allow me to help you get acquainted," you tell him, creating a blast of flame that scorches the very earth. The trade cart nearest to you catches flame, and the horses scream even louder as their manes ignite. "Your body will burn, but your soul will be the plaything of the star ghost. Utin will be most pleased."

The elf seems to be immune to your flame as well, but hurriedly parries your counterattack. Utin's grace has given you a feverish agility that can even rival this wretched elf.

You grasp him by the throat and begin to steal the flame from within his body as your burning fingers tighten around his windpipe. He attempts to hack at you with his sword, but the blade disintegrates at the proximity of your armor.

By the time you release his frozen corpse, his eyes have popped from his skull and his tongue hangs loosely from his mouth. The horses have ceased their struggling, and two have died. The other four calmly graze in the morning light, though their eyes dart nervously toward you from time to time.

The carts contain a wide variety of dwarven goods, along with some elvish clothing.

Dwarf supplies include precious stones, several steel weapons, many iron weapons, various metal and stone crafts, various clay containers (some broken), alcohol, food, leather and fiber clothing, several chainmale tunics, and three bucklers.

Elvish goods consist of several finely made robes, shirts, dresses, cloaks, trousers, skirts, leggings, tunics, vests, and halters all made from precious silk. There are also several pairs of drake-hide boots. You also find a saddle, but you have no idea how to put it on a horse, as you are accustomed to riding bareback.

You arrive at the walls of Unvurn around noon.

The city is huge, far bigger than anything you have seen in your life. It is surrounded by a tremendous wall that seems to stretch into the very heavens, and you vaguely remember hearing that the human Lord of this city commissioned Stone Dwarves to help construct them.

A huge throng of perhaps a thousand people wait to enter through one of the city's six main gates. You quickly get into line, which moves slowly and surely toward the inner city. This is the busiest time of year for Unvurn, as hundreds of merchant caravans move into and out of the trade hub.

This would be an excellent time to preach of Utin, or to perhaps find knowledge through your divine connection with him.

We still need to set aside time to test out the other elements.

Yeah, I'm not going to continue. I'll be happy to answer any questions that lie within the expanse of Harvey's knowledge or within the physics of the world.

I'm just happy with the progress we've made, shit's getting awesome around here.

i mean cmon alot of them are hard to even think of fuckin possibilities for like earth and light and water(presuming its seperate from ice)

I already stated that Harvery's current state of mind will allow for greater use of a particular element. Note how she gains more power with Fire the more passionate she gets. I won't tell you explicitly what emotion (or lack thereof) facilitates which element.

I'd imagine earth would require us to steel our nerves big time, and light would require... purity I guess? We'll get it in time, I'm sure we will.

Nope, it's me. I'm just too tired to continue with the quest itself.

    >>5741937
I have every element clearly rationalized and mapped out. Harvey is showing significant signs of Earth and Light tendencies already, both of which are related to Fire. I've also pretty much stated what Water's state was in the last thread.

    Water/Ice = apathy?
    >> The Watcher 09/06/09(Sun)01:45 No.5742054
    >>5742017
Apathy is more closely related to another element, but it can be associated with Water.

    Haven't made a map yet.

But the races of the world include:

Humans - several different varieties. Dark skinned ones live in the north, pale skinned ones live in the south. Most of them are somewhere in between.

Stone Dwarves - Though there is little superficial distinction between the three dwarven races, SD's are the miners, masons, architects, and engineers of the dwarves. They create and live in mountainhalls.

Iron Dwarves - Craftsdwarves who have a innate resistance to heat. Excellent metalsmiths. They live in mountainhalls and above-ground cities.

Steel Dwarves - A slightly taller, more muscular race of dwarves. They generally fill the ruling positions over Stone and Iron dwarves. They occasionally can use magic.

Grey Elves - Most prolific and intermingled elves. Taller than humans, and generally more agile. As Harvey discovered, they are apparently immune to her magic. They prefer the forest and wilds to cities.

Noble Elves - Rarest and most sociable elves. Tallest race on average, they are good with magic. They are the ugliest of elves to humans, though other elves find them extremely attractive.

Ice Elves - Southern dwelling wild elves who innately mistrust all outsiders. They only very rarely make contact with humans. More mythical than factual to Harvey.

Those are all the sentient races that Harvey is aware of.

What about all the homicidal insanity? What does that collate to? Aside from fire.
