Witch Girls is actually a spectacularly fucked up RPG.

For one thing, despite apparently being aimed at little girls, it has this bizzare transformation/vore fetish, with the girls constantly transforming people they don't like into various animals, which then get eaten. At one point, they are accosted by some random LA gang members, and they change one gang member into a frog and another into a fly, and then have the frog eat the fly.

Then they travel to the home of a girl who has the potential to become a witch, like Harry Potter, and the girl's older brother thinks just letting them take his little sister away isn't cool, and they threaten a similar unspeakable magical fate to him, and the little sister instantly likes the idea.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/09(Tue)07:00 No.5772526
    >>5772513

So it's a game for little girls by people who understand little girls?

I'm guessing the designers at least consulted with their daughters or something, because it's rare to just hit the nail right on the head like that.

Have you ever had any sisters? It's pretty accurate behavior for that age.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/09(Tue)07:05 No.5772562
Despite the system allowing it, it largely depends on the system...

I've played a game of it and none of the players were nowhere as near "zap happy" as the characters in the material.

I may not actually like my sister a lot, but I like to imagine she wouldn't actually agree to have me murdered by turning me into a cockroach and then putting me somewhere where I am sure to get stomped on.

Anyway, I have the game, but I'm not going to upload it for you, /tg/, because every single page is watermarked. But I am currently looking into a way to extract individual pages as JPG files, which will allow me to edit out the watermark and at least let me show you the introductory comic.

Jesus, this book. It's actually a terrifying speculative commentary about the dangers of power, and the inherent barbarism of children. The moral of this game is that those with power are free to do as they please, and sadistic murder is acceptable vengeance for any slight, no matter how petty or minor.

That said, it's great inspiration for my next Hunter: The Vigil game.

I don't know, there is a maturity and awareness of consequences that that would stop most people from transforming someone, then putting them in a situation where they would die.

That said, I can't think of anything more terrifying then given a bunch of teen girls supernatural powers.

Indeed, giving teenage girls supernatural powers and free reign to do as they please... god, it's like putting a chimpanzee in a room with a single red button on the wall that, when pressed, immediately causes the world to explode.

The only difference is... the chimpanzee isn't vindictive. It will do it because, well... it's a button. And it's red. The girls will do it because they WANT revenge, they want to dehumanize their target into the form of an animal, a lesser being both in size and in appearance. And then they WANT them to die.

    >there is a maturity and awareness of consequences that that would stop most people from transforming someone, then putting them in a situation where they would die.
it has little to do with maturity and more to do with just awareness of consequences.

the reason people do not go out on a killing spree on a daily basis isnt maturity or morals. its simply the fear of being found out and punished.

should the fear of punishment be removed or the guarantee given that they would not be caught for their "crime" anyone would be capable of anything.

Oh hell no, you've got it wrong. It's not the fear of punishment that stops killing. It IS morals. Or rather, it's IDEALS. The very real idea of actively ending someone's life makes most people queasy.

What drives people to murder isn't the lack of punishment, or even the lack of morals. People don't kill other people because "Oh, I can get away with it!" They kill people for one of three reasons.
    1) Passion. Anger. Strong emotion. You can't simply deter these types of killings with punishments.
    2) Compulsion. Disturbed individuals who have a deep-seated need to kill. Same thing, you can't deter them with the threat of consequences.
    3) Reward. Money. Things of value will often turn people against each other... again, the threat of punishment will do very little to deter this. It may impact it somewhat, but Jesus... you know how many people die in muggings and robberies around the world?
    >> Gaow? 09/08/09(Tue)07:37 No.5772795
    >>5772750

Maturity in realizing that you are still murdering someone even if you just arrange them to be eaten or crushed and don't do the eating or crushing yourself. The only real consequence you have to fear is other witches at that point, given that mundane authorities are unlikely to connect you to a crime with no murder weapon, no body and no witness that aren't going to sound fucking crazy.

Punishments are to make people feel safer, thinking that people will be deterred. And also to deter the people who kill without those three mindsets. They do their job.

I think the 3rd mindset is not necessarily deterred by punishment, but is most corrected. Some ghetto gangster who's had to spend 20 years on the inside probably won't be that willing to commit a crime again when he gets out.
But enough talk, this thread is about witch girls.

It's because of the dehumanizing aspect. Children don't get it, they don't think of it in the same way. They just see, "Hehe, the frog-boy just ate the fly-boy." It seems NATURAL to them. In their minds, they haven't yet connected that they were both just a few panels before.

It's the dehumanizing aspect that makes it seem "all right". Because then you're not killing a human, you're just killing a fly. And we kill flies all the time. Frogs eat flies all the time. Natural.

That's not the way to do it. Womenfolk have more empathy than men because they're emotional and insecure. Show them how much they've actually hurt people, and what monsters they've become. This game shows the darkness in the hearts of every little girl. Show them the weeping mothers, the horror of being eaten alive, but most of all the sick sadistic pleasure they got from watching somebody get devoured. I could make this game grimdark if I ran it.

Oh, I'd give them the rope. No, actually, they'd probably find the rope themselves. Then I'd hang them with it.

You'd have to teach it to them subtle-like, or else they'd never learn a thing. You gotta make them face the consequences.

Just having a magical cop pop out and say "YOU'RE UNDER ARREST" ain't gonna help anyone.

But picture this. The witch girls transform a guy, who happened to get in their way, into a cockroach. He runs off and gets stepped on. They're all hunky-dory with it.
A while later in the campaign... they find his family. They've fallen on hard times now. The wife simply can't afford to take care of her three kids on one salary... so she begins whoring herself out for money. But then she develops a crack addiction... her youngest son dies from neglect, starved to death in its crib. The middle child has become an insular, anti-social internet addict. And the oldest daughter has been forced to join her mother in the whoring business.

In those circumstances said little girl will be mad at YOU.

Because YOU didn't tell them about those weeping mothers ahead of time, YOU didn't warn her that murder has consequences, YOU turned being eaten alive into something awful, YOU made the game grimdark.

No human being ever wants to see the monster in the mirror, and it's only years of experience, disappointment, humiliation, punishment, and force that cause people with any sense of maturity to do so.

Hitler genuinely believed he was going to save the world for the "good" people. He was insane, not evil.

Stalin OTOH was just fucking evil through and through. I've always counted him as the greater evil of the two WW2 dictators by far - not only did he kill more people, but the most telling sign is the difference in the ideas of "superman" between them. Hitler's ubermensch was supposed to be taller, smarter and braver than any who live today - he wanted to improve humanity. Stalin OTOH started a human-chimp crossbreeding program in an attempt to create "homo sovieticus", a subhuman ape creature who was immensely strong, smart enough to operate weapons and machinery and obey orders but not smart enough to question them.

Hitler, as nasty and delusional as his methods got, was trying to save the world. Stalin wanted to crush it all underfoot.

Atheist here, and I believe religion is a necessary 'evil'.

Adults are capable of rational thought and have already developed an internal moral system and so can be convinced to follow Good without the threat of god. Children and teenagers are animals if left without guidance and without such a system it is impossible for your average parents to bring them up to be anything but monsters.

If they grow up as monsters, by the time you can explain atheism to them they'll reject it due to prefering evil.

No, placing one's self and personal pleasures and gain above all else is the definition of evil. Lack of morality is closer to a chaos vs. order thing, but mostly an argument the religious use to vilify people who aren't members of their religion.

However, it's a bit of a red flag that most of the main cast will permanently petrify, transform, shrink, or even kill mortals for minor perceived offenses; sure enough, nearly all of the adult characters got their start in "The Shrinking Sorceress e-Zine," an involuntary-transformation fetish Poser comic.

One of the frightening things is that woman is encouraging them to be sadistic freaks. What's going to happen when they, you know, actually grow up and try to have relationships? Love, sex, and just about anything else could simply be a game to them. A boy who is no longer of any use to them is disposed of by being turned into a bug and then squished to death. Suddenly, mass disappearances are to be investigated by the police. Even more disappearances lead to Marshall law and suddenly the religious extremists begin to call for a literal witchhunt of these 'people snatchers'...

Is there even a game, aimed at boys, revolving around going around a murdering random innocents in as horrifying ways as you can, then being smug about it? Usually when RPG characters rack up a bodycount they are assumed to be on the side of justice or at least have something more tangible as a motive than insane bloodlust.

Rules-wise, there's nothing stopping you from making male magic-using characters.

The official setting has witches as exclusively female and functionally immortal, but all that's just setting fluff.

Also, my character makes use of both these traits.

Its not about if they suffer during the act of death, you can kill people without hurting them but what you're really killing is every possible self they could have become in the future. Every action and reaction they could have had with other people, all the children and grand children who may or may not have been sired from them. Killing is the single most inhuman act you can carry out but it is 'glorified' in popular culture for boys and girls.

These people don't even have the comfort of knowing that they were part of a plan, or that their children will live in a better world. Just playthings of these child shaped... creatures, to whom empathy is an alien concept, who will never face any consequences for their actions, and kill people like the domesticated cat kills birds, not for any reason it has the ability to understand, it just "plays" with the things until they stop moving.

Revenge fantasies are a staple, but when the revenge is insanely out of proportion with the crime and the entire game is about it? It becomes real fucking unhealthy.

Let me repeat again that this game is about people murdering in extravagantly sadistic ways anybody who even slightly displeases them in ways sane people wouldn't even notice, glorifies that and holds them up as an example of how you should behave if you ever got powers.

I've been in a relationship with a guy like that. He made me feel like I was worthless. Completely and utterly worthless. He called me over to berate me and then have sex. He rolled over and went to sleep soon afterwards. Not a word said. I left him after a week. I can honestly say that I've never seen the appeal in guys like that.

The whole thing was a sham anyway, should'ave figured as much during the first date. We were set up by a bunch of my friends who swore by the guy. Couldn't stand him during the dinner.

So I don't get it. I'm female. What's the point? If you're female too, then I pity you. We've moved on from the point in time where aggression and large bulk where considered admirable traits. My current boyfriend is the sweetest thing I've ever had the fortune to meet, and he wouldn't dream of doing anything like that. He's into warhammer, and American football.

A player can play an evil character and be a perfectly fine, sane, individual, but when the player believes his evil individual is in fact good this is problematic.

/tg/, spluttering virgin rage is unbecoming of you. Ignore the pretend femtrolls.
Seriously though, there is a tendency to assume that people in fantasy settings who have accrued power have done so with some overarching purpose in mind, and are disciplined or at least somewhat restrained in it's use (usually to avoid drawing the ire of those with more power).
These girls would be terrifying opponents for a party to encounter. The trick would be balancing the encounter. I envision a scenario where the girls are more powerful than the PC's, but they are (as in the comic) abusive of their powers (PC's would have little difficulty researching their exact abilities since they seem to display them so readily), unsubtle and immature despite this.

We did, but those power fantasies were almost always centered on people who (actually,or percievingly) did us harm. It was petty and vindictive, but i don't recall wanting to zap random people just because they looked silly. Hell, most of those fantasies included using the powers for "good" too. It was silly, but the fantasy at least had an aim, purpose. This here has no goal beyond immediate pleasure of the wielder, and maybe building of her posiition in the group. it's utterly selfish.

That´s what kids will do sometimes. Have you never seen a kid pluck the wings out of a fly? Why would a bully or a kid he never knew be closer to him than that poor insect?

Now, the game being about it, that´s where I see things getting weird. But again, it is a game. Where have you read that it says that being a bitch witch is the way to be?

I mean, come on. Any game in which you can play a Lich is telling you that should you have the power, you should use it to murder, plunder and enslave the souls of the dead? Any game in which you play a Barbarian is telling you that if you are strong, you should feel free the rage the fuck out and kill people?

Still, I feel there's got to be something that this system is paralleled by (Besides Conan or *shiver* Gor). The thing is, when I grew up, the cartoons and stories that helped to shape my world view were based on battles of good and evil, right and wrong, learning a lesson. This book is 'If I don't like you I'll turn you into a frog and your friend into a snake and feed you to the snake.' Or some other insanity derived principle. The fact of the matter is that those moral lessons in knowing what is good and bad kind of helps you in the long run. Let's face it, these bitches are going to get theirs somehow, be it from a Witchhunters group or trying to summon up something more powerful than themselves and royally fucking up.

You definitely weren't. Anybody who grew up in the eighties grew up brainwashed to be morally upright, all the children's entertainment was designed that way. And that's no bad thing. My childhood idols were He-man and MacGyver, and I can think of a lot worse idols for a boy to have.

He-man (and the Masters of the Universe!) was about a classic chisel-jawed muscleman who oozed testosterone from every pore. His cartoon was about having overwhelming power, and using it for the benefit of others. MacGyver was the same thing, except you replace "power" with intellect and education.

Cartoons aimed at males seem to be about 'With great power, comes great responsibility'. Spiderman never killed anyone if he could help it, and neither did most of the other heroes. When Batman did it, it was out of conviction and only against the vilest of criminals.

Cartoons targeted at women tended to be about abusing your power and being awesome.

Actually Batman's body count is exactly zero. That's one the major points about his character, he isn't willing to kill anyone.

Spider-man is plenty murderous, by comparison.

    Optimus Prime.
    Thundarr.
And even into the 90's, things like Batman Beyond, Cyber 9, Bucky O'Hare, and others.

All excellent role models who were wacky at times, but definitively explained basic good and evil principles. It's bad to try and force your will on others - teamwork and problem solving lead to better solutions. It's bad to try and destroy ecosystems to further your goals - conservationism and researching new technologies is the way to go.

These lessons helped to make a group of people a bit better, and not only taught us to dream, but to do the right thing. I think that's what should be emphasized these days.

Not abusing the power you've got to fuck over your friends. I just keep seeing this book being played by a group of friends, and they eventually oust one friend by turning her into a rat and slingshot her into a powerline.

Its because of feminism. Its okay for girls to be complete bitches and abuse their power to make life hell for men but when men abuse their power suddenly its morally wrong. Men have much more rigid structures and expectations for their lives, be straight, earn money, do the right thing, women on the other hand just have to be pretty. Fucking women.

This isn't revenge. This is evil.

The principle behind revenge is "tit for that". You do the same thing you were done. If you are insulted, you return an insult. If you are shot, you shoot back. You don't just torture and murder somebody who BORES you, that is not revenge. That is simply evil.

    >Let's face it, these bitches are going to get theirs somehow, be it from a Witchhunters group or trying to summon up something more powerful than themselves and royally fucking up.

ooh, i have an idea! it's basically based on the simple fact that teenage girls(which the players should roleplay) don't really care for the things most men are fascinated as kids. i mean, we all played with GI-Joe, or watched "Longest Day" on tv,right? So even if you lose intrest in it as you grow up, the basic knowledge of how guns etc. work remains. most girls aren't really into that, they tend to focus on other things both in childhood and as they grow up(i don't really socialize with teenagers, but most grown women had really dim idea on what guns are beyond the "it shoots bullets"). Anyway, what we have in the game is a bunch of teenage girls, power-drunk on abilies that noone else has, and no-one can resist. They'll naturally view human world as weaker and don't pay much attention to it. They'll be arrogant, and think themselves invincible to the mundies....play on it as a GM. make them kill one wrong person, and make sure "certain" people were aware of who did it. wait a while so the players forget the situation, and send a hunter for them. Just don't do it in the usual way, any up front confrontation will lead only to the demise of said hunter. a sniper placed on a building kilometer away will do nicely,or maybe boobytrap the entrance to their houses...confront them with the full weight of mafia or any other organization. make sure they do know someone's after them, just don't tell them who so they can't go and frog everyone. make them scared, like girls who suddenly are cought up in adult's busissness.

Funny. I was reading a friend's old guide to the Sabbat yesterday, and I'm seeing a lot of parallels. The basic morality in both seems to be "we're special and powerful, no one better get in our way."

I'd like to run a game of this the same way I'd run a Sabbat game. First couple sessions are all power-abusing fun and games, then you start dealing with A) White Knights trying to get you to stop being terrible, and B) the fact that "your side" consists of evil, manipulative motherfuckers, most of whom are more powerful, cunning, and experienced than you.

I'm imagining the magical community handles things this way intentionally. You get the Witches young, and teach them dangerous magic well before they're mature enough to handle it. They're guaranteed to abuse it, probably on mortals. This effectively cuts them off from mortal life; their options are to consider mortals subhuman animals, or face the shame of what they've done. This will keep witches secret, as well; by ensuring every witch has done terrible things to mortals, you ensure that none of them are willing to reveal what they are and what they've done.

You take care of this in the first couple of grades, and then when they're skilled enough to be useful pawns, you start using them in your political power-plays and pissing matches.

The whole system is set up to reinforce the status quo and secure power for the elder witches.
