Do we have a name for the tech faction? The ones who want to ignore Fratello couples and spend money on researching hard science analogues to witch powers and defeat them with mass produced SCIENCE!?

Just a reminder, the named factions so far are the Center for Applied Paraphysics and United Nations International Child Emergency Reintegration, CAP and UNICER respectively.

Oh, and the tentatively named Purification Initiative, though I'm not clear if that's their chosen name. May also be Anonymous and or the Department of Planning and Logistics.

Although, ICS at least has competent, intelligent, dilligent adversaries for his transformation-fetish witches.

I'm pretty sure the anti-witch mortal groups in Witch Girls are just a bunch of retards set up to take a fall.

So far, we have a faction that wants to destroy the Witches to the last (Purity Initiative) through:
    Witch-killing virus
    Stealth attacks.
Getting them to kill each other.
    (We need names for those)

A faction (the Center for Applied Paraphysics) that wants to investigate and, to an extent, 'preserve' the Witches through the Fratello system (basically, a trained agent closely monitors and trains the Witch).

Another, small faction (United Nations International Child Emergency Reintegration, UNICER) that treats Witches as Human beings (and may just simply be folded into the CAP)

Another, nameless (as of yet) faction that wants Witches to rule over Mankind, because they think Humanity's future depends on the Witches.

PROTIP: open warfare against Witches is a death sentence.

Pretty sure the anti witch group was just not going by any name, but rather what other people knowing of their existence would refer to them as such.

You don't need super powers when all you need to do is get the jump on them with reasonably adequate force.

Look, the whole point of this is that the Witches are NOT incomprehensible beings from beyond space and time! They're just humans who have been given powers far beyond their understanding! Unlike the high-priest of a race of interstellar cuttlefish, they have motivations we can understand, psychologies we've encountered before.

They are still human, and it is only this fact that can save humanity.

Treat them as humans, care for them, love them.
As if they were actual children, for they are. That works.

Perhaps everything we are doing, to an extent, is to control what a Witch may do if she gets a superiority complex, or if the system fails her (as it happens with actual children)
We then reintegrate that Witch to society, or terminate her...

Clearly we just need to study this magic of theirs and make it our own. We unlike the female children have the ability to use the powers for good and with our superior adult intellect can easily overcome a rabble of misbehaved girls. Our newfound magic powers shall ring in a new glorious age of mankind, one free from tyranny and oppression by small minds, all shall be well under the kind and watchful eyes of the new warlock dominion.

The Witches are the ones who will rule us all, and bring a new age for humanity...

But what do you men of science know? You're powerless, your pride won't let you realize how big a mistake you're about to commit just to keep your patriarchal society...

I will end your life of mistakes, for the one I love.

    --------------------------
God damnit, you want to repeat the same old mistake again? Where do you think those stories about evil witches come from? The cult of the great mother? We tried coexisting once, in the very childchood of mankind. We even worshipped them as goddesses, for they wiedled power beyond our recognition. Whatever we did, it was never enough, they could never be appeased, their sick, twisted minds that never learnt the restraint we gain by realising our limits always came up with new percieved slights to their majesty, always demanded new "games" to play with us. Our children cowered in fear at the mere sound of their names, even our women, who supposedly were "empowered" by the virtue of belonging to the same sex as our oppressors had enough, their husbands tortured, their children mere playthings, their possesions free for taking. It would probably continue till the end of world, existance of terror and primitive living, for how can we learn if we always bend our heads to the ground.

Then something happened in the East, to this day we don't know what, though the oldest texts speak of one name, Gilgamesh of Uruk, Builder of Wall, Destroyer of Monsters. Suddenly, there were no witches between the rivers of Euprhates and Tigris, those few that remained weakened and of little importance. Something must have happened, for with this pox on human life gone, cities rose, civilization bloomed, fire of knowledge was kindled in the walls of mudclay. From there the revolution came, and where the messengers of the Kings came, there the witches grew weak and new ideas gained hold. The witches retreated to few distant places, where they held till the late XIX century, when they were again started to be percieved as poor, misunderstood priestesses or wise women. We must never allow those vile beasts to gain such power over society again, or all Mankind built would be lost again, forgotten in the neverending night of animal fear.

Obviously, the teenage witches depicted in the comics don't, beyond an infantile clique system. But as was observed, there is a powerful group of ancient crones in the shadows, ensuring that the girls abuse their powers, and through that abuse of power, bind their destiny and will to the elder witches.

All magic users have a portion of their power that is subconsciously controlled. For some it simply produces a kind of serendipity, but for others it can warp reality in ways it is not supposed to. These are called Waking Dreamers, and they are some of the most difficult witches to neutralize. There are many agents who have died as existence itself began to reject them.

Worse, though, is when the hunt sears the agent's image into the dreamer's mind as an icon of fear, for when the dream becomes a nightmare, the Agent returns as a Bogeyman. Twisted reflections of their former selves, Bogeymen are nigh unstoppable, and take a sick satisfaction in their work. They are valuable assets, but should be handled with extreme caution.

I would imagine that the clandestine, success-at-any-cost, anti-witch group would analyse and dismantle the corpses of 'neutralised' individuals, and then gene-splice stuff into their own agents to enable them to basically run countermeasures against the witches ability to divine threats toward them. Sort of a magical electronic warfare thing going on. In a game as the witches, you'd have these spooky semi-androgynous agents who turn up a blank when you try to predict their appearance or determine where they came from, a sort of 'implacable man' threat.

Meanwhile, played counter-witch, it would be a way of rationalising a scheme of leveling up, wherin as the procedure is refined and more targets are neutralised you get more and improved abilities from the splicing treatment in a semi-bioshock sort of way.

From what little could be gathered, those bitches are practically walking one-man factions, they only gather for certain social meetings or really big spells. What remains real mystery is why they kept quiet for so long, and only recently started to manifest their power so openly again? For centuries we've heard of someone(or someones, surely even witches can live that long) only referred to as "Grandmother" or "granny", but we recently stopped hearing such rumor-perhaps it was some sort of organization designed to keep the witchdom from overly anatagonizing mankind again? If so, why did they lose power to the "wild" witches?

possibly, making theme also a separate force from anti witch force would be good. I think if the awf (for the sake of not having to retype the damn thing over and over), had magical immunity like that it would be a bit too much. Having only technology, albeit completely superior, would be interesting. If you added magical immunity I think it would be "lol we win" kinda setup.

as a separate faction, or hell they could have both been a single faction at one time but split apart due to separate views (one viewed the destruction of witches as all that needed to be done, the other believed that with all the knowledge and power (tech) they've gained, they should mold humanity with it, after the witches have been dealt with).

However because there blood has thinned, they dont have the same immunity as there for-father. More so that they could also be hunted by the AWF for there immunity, which could be less so based on genetics and more on a personal presence.

While much of the Center for Applied Paraphysics's budget is tied up in the Fratello project, we understand that it is a temporary stopgap measure. Some of our best people are working on determining the quantum mechanical underpinnings of the reality warping effect, so that we can someday neutralize it or turn it to our purposes without having to deal with unstable, juvenile "assets." >which could be less so based on genetics and more on a personal presence.

how about a mix? since it seems the messengers had to deliver a physical object(otherwise why send them?), it wouldn't be genetic rather....let's say the big guy himself prepared a lot of clay tablets with the spell/ward, and those had to be sent to the physical location and..oh, i don't know, activated, or something, but only men of conviction, or "pure of heart" could do so? What if there simply aren't enough such men today?Or the tablets start to crumble, and there is no way to renew the spell? And since the old magic does not work, the messenger guys have to refer to simpler wards, that use blood rituals to strenghten the ward or place temporal,weak-assed null-spells on other places? It can be either their power, but the spell is weak, or you can use human lifeblood and the spell will hold decades? it makes them less shiny now that the old power is gone and they have to make hard choices.

And when the research is complete, we'll finally be able to return these girls to a normal life.

Of course, we at UNICER understand that, as the saying goes, you can't go home again. By the time this crisis has passed, our charges will have fought and bled, been wounded in places modern medicine can't reach. It is a terrible thing, to have PTSD before you've had a highschool prom.

But we will give it to them. We can make it all go away, the night battles, sky flashing with color from intersecting magics, strange growths, reality bent to the breaking point. They won't have to remember a thing.

Hush, little princess. The prince's kiss will send you back into the dream...

Incidentially, how do the AWF and the Gilgameshiites feel about CAP's Fratello system? Do they purposefully seek to destroy CAP's operations and kill their Assets, or do they simply not differentiate depending on whose side a Witch is on? Or are they grudgingly willing to admit that some Witches need killing more than others?
    >> Anonymous 09/08/09(Tue)18:26 No.5779579

I don't think the AWF would even be particularly begrudging, they seem the sort of faction that would be ruthlessly pragmatic and so those under the Fratello system would be so far down the priority list that they would only really merit monitoring, at least until all actively hostile entities are dealt with.

One of them brought us back fire, he was punished for his deeds, but later freed by one of our own. He fell with the others as the one god set out to purge all those would oppose him. However he nor his deeds were forgotten, in his memory shall we bring back the light, the light that burns in men's hearts. Actually, UNICER have quite a lot of funding, they just spend it all on memory wipers. Or else they don't have a lot of funding, but get the memory wipers from elsewhere.

At any rate, UNICER's entire "keep the Witches from harming themselves or anyone else" plan is based on erasing their memories of Witchery, so they need those in order to exist as a faction. And they can't be cheap.

So PCs play Agents, Handlers, and Social Workers?

This could actually be kind of balanced. Social Workers would have the least power, but be able to move most openly, as they aren't actually breaking the law. P.I. Agents skulk around, setting up sniper nests and sonic disabling devices, and praying their target doesn't use divination regularly. Handlers would have the most power, in the form of their Assets, but would have to move most cautiously; allowing the Asset to be injured, or losing control, could have disastrous consequences.

Of course, you wouldn't really want a group playing a mix of factions.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/09(Tue)18:40 No.5779773
    >>5779720
Handlers and Social Workers could still work together, technically. Sure, the UNICER are going to bitch at the CAP for exposing the Witches to what they will term "unnecessary danger" while the CAP will call it "unavoidable risk", but they still ultimately have a shared interest in the girls' wellbeing.

The agents of the AWF are opposed to them, and would more likely consist of a mixture of people who just want to pop a cap in a Witch's ass, and those who look at a young nubile girl and go "yesssssss, she will be perfect for my experiments."
    >> Anonymous 09/08/09(Tue)18:42 No.5779790
What if divination speels only work against assassins that have killing witches in mind?
The Purification Initiative could use hypnosis and psychoindoctrination to create sleepers. Completely normal people who, if confronted with something supernatural, become stealthy and merciless killing machines.

A.W.F and Purification Initiative don't research witches except to find better ways to kill them.

Personally i think that all factions would have at least an grudging respect for the other two, because of their specializations. For example the CAP might need the UNICER 's mind wiping expertise in case of an very powerful but very uncooperative specimen, or AWF might need CAP's expertise in brainwashing.

While the general sentiment in all factions is that the other two are doing it wrong, even the most hardliners admit that the others have their uses. And besides the absolutely last thing that any of the factions want is, that the witches win while they were too busy fighting each other. So generally all faction tend to keep to themselves and out of the way of the other two.

    Re: Misgivings

    Handler:
I understand you have expressed some doubts about the research occurring in the White Facility. Let me personally assure you that the subjects involve feel no pain. Their situation is a sad one. When conscious, each of them was lost to their powers. Barely-controlled change storms warped and unmade their families, and many agents were lost bravely trying to rescue them from themselves. Having proven resistant to Fratello indoctrination, all that is left for them is to give the remainder of their lives to Science. Were they capable of giving consent, they would surely volunteer, knowing that their sacrifice will help us help future children like them avoid a similar fate.

As ever, we do what we must, for the good of all of us.

It's incentive, built into the program. While the primary bond fostered by the indoctrination process is devotion of the Asset to the Handler, some affection from Handler to Asset is inevitable. Assets that underperform are sent to the Research Division. With this in mind, Handlers apply themselves wholeheartedly to the training and maintenance of their Asset.

All we're missing is agents with remains of dead witches spliced into them to create unspeakable body horrors (if you happen to see what's under their suits...) in order to steal some of their power, working for the faceless BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY faction, which keeps the sin against god abortive first experiments of the procedure in vats underground.

The therapist's office was warm and inviting, earth tone furniture arranged with cunning strategy and the walls all lined with cheesy posters. It was meticulously designed to create a clam, vaguely self-effacing setting, and it just made Hawthorne all the more on edge.
"Do you know why you're here, agent Hawthorne?" the therapist said. His voice was an even baritone, smooth like the tide brushing against a California beach. Also practiced, no doubt. Or maybe Hawthorne was getting paranoid, seeing the trickery in everything. Hard not to, of course, given his job.
"Because of the last mission," Hawthorne said with quiet resignation. "Because of that..." he trailed off.
"It's alright agent, this is a safe place," the doctor said.
"I'm just not sure what word to use."
"What word do you think is appropriate?"
Hawthorne considered. He almost said little girl, but decided to be honest and vocalize his first instinct. "Because of the witch I killed."

    Shall I continue?

It was more the setting/attitude than the rules that set us off - I'd guess that the rules are probably usable, on their own.

The therapist nodded with oily sympathy. He was young, surprisingly young. A small, dark skinned man of indeterminate ethnicity with a well groomed beard just barely starting to gray at the tip. His eyes were old though, and Hawthorne had some trouble holding eye contact for very long.
The therapist scribbled some notes and spoke, "Tell me about it."
"Why? You've read the file," Hawthorne said. "No, I know, you want my version of events. I don't mean to be snappy doctor, but I've been trying to avoid thinking about it."
The doctor pursed his lips "and has that been at all successful?"
"No," Hawthorne admitted, "it's like trying to ignore an itch at the back of your neck."
"I know how that is," the man said, and for the first time Hawthorne saw a glimmer of honest sympathy behind the doctor's steely professionalism. He found himself warming to the doctor despite himself. Certainly, Hawthorne thought, I must be a little scary when I'm on the job. We're all just professionals trying to hack it.
The doctor added, "Why don't we do this? Just give me the abridged version. If you feel you can't continue, we can stop for as long as you want. I'm permanent staff, so there's no time limit here."
"Yeah," Hawthorne nodded. This guy was good. "Yeah, okay. That's fair." He took a breath. "Like the file probably says, the mission was supposed to be a routine snatch and grab. We've had reports from this prep-school in Connecticut, and the signs pointed to Witchcraft," Hawthorne shrugged. "Cheerleaders going missing, teachers behaving strangely, girls showing up smelling like sulfer...we figured it'd be simple. Do recon, find out who the targets are, wait for them to start a seance and then kick in the door. Standard procedure."
"But something went wrong," the doctor offered.
    "Oh, yes."

"I don't know where the intelligence failure was. Maybe someone at the local branch got lazy. Maybe the witches were wise to us and kept the worst of it secret. Maybe we just don't know as much as we think we do about this crap. I don't know. It all started to go bad from the first day of recon. We were able to pick two of the three witches out right off the bat. One was this mousy little thing with freckles and glasses named Samantha. The other was a sporty, kind of butch girl named Claire."
    "You said two of three?"
"Yeah, yeah there's always at least three. Like in Shakespeare, you know? I don't really get it, but I guess their magic works best when there are three of them. Anyway, even if we didn't know that, it was obvious there was a third. These two...they were pretty skilled, but too timid to act on their own. By themselves they might not even have been that bad. Sleeping potions in the school lunch kind of stuff. No, they needed a leader to do," Hawthorne paused and swallowed against the dry lump building in his throat. "to do the things they did."
"Like what," the doctor prodded gently.
"Like I said, it was bad right off the bat," Hawthorne said. "The first thing we saw, the butch one, Claire, used some magic on her English teacher after school."
    "Why?"
Hawthorne bit against the rising indignation, sour and hot in the back of his throat. "Because he chastised her for not knowing the difference between 'your' and 'you're'. She got the answer wrong, he told her to study harder before raising her hand, and the class had a little laugh at her expense."
    "What did she do?"
"She asked to speak to him after school...said she needed some help with her studies. When his back was turned, she turned him into a goddamn mouse, slipped the poor bastard into her backpack and brought him home."
    "Why did she do that?"
Hawthorne smiled thinly "for her pet snake."

    Date:March/xx/2xxx
    Subject:Level 4 threat level witch, alias;Rebeca
    agent code: 43D21A13

Begin Transmission:Subject was reported from rumors circulating in the lower east side of new york, stories of citizens disappearing and strange anomalies showing up after sunrise. A textbook sign of witchcraft as any agents worth their salt were programed with.

This agent began his observation of the area in question. After two weeks of scouting, aided by Intel detection equipment, the target finally made itself apparent with her last target. Intel picked up a ping from the area this agent was staking out. This agent went immediately to investigate.

A child was seen leaving the scene of a level 4 transmutation type spell; of which the victim was changed into a cake. The witch in question fled after consuming the victim, and this agent captured her identity for the eventual sting.

This agent continued monitoring the subject for an additional week, monitoring patterns of travel and business. No other witches we're seen to interact with subject, and as such, HQ handed down the order. Agent was relocate 12 blocks east, supported by two "moving vans" for cleanup.

At 7:30:55AM, subject was leaving for school, the witch did not even get down to the second step of her stoop. Only one witness of the scene was a nearby,a vagrant, who was liquidated shortly after the first shot.
This agent is currently now waiting a new assignment.

"Is that why you acted early?"
"No...some of us wanted to, for sure...the poor guy had a family, you know? His son was just about to start kindergarten. But we couldn't make our move until we found the third, that's just standard procedure. There were more than just transmutations though."
    "Such as?"
"The shy one...Samantha...she had a crush on this boy, you know? One of the pissy valedictorian types. She worked up the courage to ask him to prom during the third day of our observations and he turned her down. She was upset, but seemed to take it pretty well, until lunch hour rolled around."
The doctor raised his eyebrow, "let me guess, a love potion?"
Hawthorne laughed tonelessly. "Sort of. I mean, those things are bad enough...the name makes it seem so harmless, but everyone changes their tune when they see 'em in action. It's like slipping someone ten roofies and a hit of acid. Worse than date rape because it makes them think they want it. So yeah, she slipped a love potion into his soda that day at lunch...we expected that. What we weren't expecting was that she used ten times the normal dosage. The poor kid lost his shit as soon as his coke touched his tongue, tried to rape the girl right there in front of everybody. He was almost frothing at the mouth, like an animal in heat. Security'd pulled him off in seconds, so no harm done to Samantha, but the kid's life was ruined for sure. And do you know what that little bitch did as they dragged the kid away? She SMILED. She fucking knew exactly what she was doing. That kid's whole life...all that hard work...gone, and she knew."

"But you don't think it was her idea?"
"No, no way. Too timid, too shy, and most of all not smart enough. She could read the tomes, sure, but one look at her and my whole team agreed that she didn't have the creativity to back it up. No, there was a third one, someone giving the orders from hiding. Someone smart. We figured it was one of the goth kids, you know? It usually is...none of us were expecting what happened."
    "The little brother."
Hawthorne looked down at his hands. They were balled up tight, the knuckles threatening to burst out of the skin. "Yeah, the little brother. Day five of our recon and no sign of the alpha witch, the valedictorian's little brother goes missing. Family's having a hard enough time dealing with what happened at lunch that day, and I guess the witches wanted to twist the knife. Evening was rolling around and we were bracing ourselves for a new round of horror, when Kelso, the team occultist kicked in the door looking bedsheet white."
    "He was scared?"
"Almost pissing himself where he stood. It took us almost ten minutes to figure out what he was trying to say between gulping for air. See, there was going to be a lunar eclipse that night so none of us wanted to make our move. Witches get stronger with the moon, you know, some menstrual thing I guess, and its especially bad when the moon is all wonky. But Kelso found a pattern. Something about leylines at the school, old indian burial grounds, that sort of thing. Bottom line; the girls were going to summon a demon that night, and the little brother was going to be their virgin sacrifice."

"We weren't expecting to make our move for another three days at the earliest...so we had to do it sloppy. We'd prepped the school a little - they always seem to do their little hoodoo at their schools - but not nearly up to specification. We had a master key to the main door so we could get into the grounds undetected, and some surveillance cameras set up in high traffic areas, but we were going in almost blind. No choice, though. A coven is bad enough, but if they actually managed to bind the demon and not get themselves raped to death from an incomplete summoning circle? We'd need at least four teams with heavy weaponry just to take them down. So we went in hard, sloppy, and unprepared. We didn't have a choice."
"And that's when you first saw Ms. Andrews."
"Yeah, the leader. Brittaney C. Andrews. The captain of the cheerleading squad, and her name was Brittaney. Can you believe that?" Hawthorne laughed, but there was venom in it. It hurt coming out. "The smart ones always hide in plain sight, don't they? The missing cheerleaders weren't tormentors, they were competition. The english teacher and valedictorian were just sacrifices to give the other girls a taste for power and make them loyal...I've got a daughter myself at that age, and its kind of scary how militant cheerleaders can be...as it happens it also makes them damn effective witches."

    "What happened?"
Hawthorne rubbed his temples. His head ached badly, he could feel the blood pumping thick through the veins in his forehead. "We got there just in time. The little boy was chained up in the gym, thrashing against some bike chains tied to the floor, out of his mind on love potion. Naked and painted and, uh, engorged. Claire and Samantha were wearing these silly harry potter robes and chanting, trying not to giggle at the sight of the naked boy. Brittaney was just standing there watching, holding this ceremonial knife, sliding a manicured fingernail along the blade. Waiting with this little smirk at the edge of her perfectly made-up mouth. We waited just long enough to get the lay of the land. Bleachers could be used for cover in a pinch, bad ventilation so smoke was an option, but there wasn't much else to do. We waited for Brittaney to start moving towards her victim before blowing the door open and moving in. My team's been working together for years, so we knew exactly what to do, at least at first. Flash bang, smoke grenades, close the distance so they can't toss fireballs. It started out textbook...better than textbook. Samantha crumbled as soon as the doors blew, covering her ears and screaming. Claire tried to aim her wand, but I was faster than her. I clocked her right in the braces with the butt of my rifle. I did it hard, for that poor English teacher."

    "How did that feel?"
"What? Hitting her?" Hawthorne shrugged helplessly. Part of him wanted to lie, the truth certainly was ugly to think about. "Good at first. Satisfying. It always is...these kids, these witches, they get drunk on their power. They think they're better than everyone else, superior...but most of them have never even been hit. Not hard, anyway. They don't know how a good solid hit to the face fucks up your whole equilibrium. Your vision blurs, you get dizzy...the pain doesn't even come right away and there's always this second of amazement, like they're trying to process what happened. It wasn't until Clare touched her lip and pulled back a fistfull of her own teeth that she started bawling like a kid. She was out of the fight."
"Did that look strange? Seeing her cry like a child."
"She is a child," Hawthorne murmured bitterly. "I didn't have time to think about it. I was just glad to see her down for the count. There was still the leader to deal with. Brittaney."
"This, I presume, is where it all went wrong."

Hawthorne nodded slowly, his voice taking on a tinny, robotic quality as he recalled the massacre. "She got Kelso first. While I was hitting Clare she leveled her wand at him, calm as you please, and zapped him. There was this arc of purple lightning and he just collapsed into a pile of snakes. The snakes got two others...I guess magic venom works faster than the normal kind. They practically melted, they couldn't even scream because their vocal chords were blistering. I wanted to look back, see if my team was okay, but I couldn't. My training had kicked in, all of those practice runs and successful missions. I tried to aim, get a shot at her, but she had the wand trained on me. I don't know what kind of shit she had for me...I dove out of the way just in time. This little beam, yellow like bad piss, or old vomit clipped the side of my head just a little."
Hawthorne reached up and stroked the gray hair, a white streak against black where the beam grazed him.
"The bleachers, I saw later, got hit by that beam. Turned into powder. Aged to dust, I guess. Nasty. Anyway, this bought the rest of my team...the remaining two others... time to set up their own shots. Most of the bullets just pinged harmlessly off some energy shield she had conjured...but I think it took concentration to maintain and the smoke and flashbang was fucking her up a little, because one of the bullets got through. Caught her just above the right breast."

"There was this second of quiet. Like taking a deep breath before diving into a pool...and she just looked down at the blood with this weird look in her eyes. I hoped it would give us an opening...but no. She went apeshit. Started howling and thrashing around like a monster, these arcs of fire and acid and boiling blood and everything bad from the bible just started shooting out of her at random. The ground under her turned into blood meat. Literally. Basketballs and sports gear came to life before imploding into screaming unbirth. The shadows started crying like babies being tortured."
Hawthorne buried his head in his hands.
"Please don't make me repeat what she did to the last two members of my team. I don't want to say it out loud."
"That's fine," the doctor soothed, "it's fine. Just tell me how you stopped her."

"It wasn't very heroic," Hawthorne said weakly, "At that point I just figured it'd be less painful to vaporize against her shield than wait for her to do...those things to me. So I threw myself at her blindly. I was screaming I guess, but I couldn't hear it over her tantrum. That's what it was, you know, a tantrum. A child's tantrum with all of hell backing it up. So I threw myself at her, and I guess by some miracle he shield went down because I crashed into her, sending both of us tumbling to the rubbery gym floor. There was this moment of mutual hesitation as both of us realized that I had suddenly gained the upper hand."
"What did you do then?" The doctor asked almost hungrily.
Hawthorne hesitated...he hesitated for a good ten minutes before he finally spoke, "I beat her face in with my bare hands. I just kept hitting her and hitting her until my arms went numb. I didn't even feel her teeth cutting my forearms when the flew out of her face, or her blood hitting the wrist-watch my daughter got me for Christmas. I kept beating her because I was afraid to stop."

"And eventually things calmed down...the ground turned back to ground....the blood and fire and shit stopped shooting everywhere...and I kept hitting her until I couldn't swing my fists anymore. And she was still alive. She, she was gurgling, these little bubbles of blood were coming out of what was left of her nose. And she said something."

There were tears in Hawthorne's eyes, but he didn't notice. "'Don't hurt me. Don't hurt me anymore. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, just please don't hurt me anymore.'" Hawthorne almost whimpered. "After all of that she sounded like a little kid. She still sounded like a kid."
"But she wasn't a child, was she? She was a monster wasn't she?"

Hawthorne looked the doctor right in the eye.
"No, no that's too easy. She wasn't a monster, and that's the bitch of it all. At the end of this whole clusterfuck, she was nothing but a kid. A kid who got too much power before she learned to use it properly. People assume children are innocent, sweet little things, it's a nice idea." Hawthorn shook his head. "I know better. Children are cruel, vicious things. Because they don't know any better. Like I said, I have my own girl her age...and I don't doubt for a second that she could easily become like, like THEM. I've read her diary...I've seen the fantasies she has about the other girls who tease her, or the boys who reject her...they still give me a shudder to think about. The cruelty. The INVENTIVENESS. I love her, but I know she's just one magic wand away from turning out just like Brittaney."
"And how does that make you feel. About your job here?"
"Scared to death..." but here Hawthorne looked up, a bit of the old light returning to his haunted eyes. "But clear, I guess. Someone has to keep this power away from these kids, someone has to teach them to be responsible, and put down the ones that step too far out of line."

The doctor nodded in naked approval. If there was a test here, Hawthorne was sure he had passed.
"One last thing...tell me, when Brittaney Andrews was on the ground begging for her life, what did you do next?"
"I stood, or tried to anyway. I stood on shaky legs, went to my rifle and shot her right in what was left of her head."
    "Do you regret it?"
Hawthorn thought and then shook his head. "I regret that I had to do it. Clare and Samantha...they're in containment and reeducation now. Maybe they can be saved, taught to put their powers to good use. But Brittaney was too far gone. She was too dangerous. I had to put her down."
The doctor nodded again. "Excellent, I think we made real progress today, Agent Hawthorne. All told, you handled this as well as could be expected." He stood and shook Hawthorne's hand. "If you like, I can see to it that you'll be kept up to date on Samantha and Clare's training, so you can be sure your good work didn't go to waste. Would you like that?"
Hawthorne nodded. "Yes, I think I would," he said finally and then, shaking the doctor's hand, he turned on his heel and walked out of the office, ready to go back to work.

Oh good grief. From the rulebook:

Otherkin: The other supernatural beings out there related to witches. They include Immortals, Fae, Vampires and Werewolves.

Knowing what Otherkin are like and given that these witches are superpowered versions of bratty little girls, I can certainly see why they would be related.

Say, I downloaded and read through the Mage (nWoD, sorry, oldfags) book last night, and I was wondering about whether CAP would work with more mature Mages (of both genders, assuming Witchery is a whole different branch of magic) to assist in the understanding of magic, and maybe act as Fratellos. Maybe even the Purity Initiative (AWF doesn't cut it for me, sorry) in a sort of unholy alliance thing.

These girls are all basically a bunch of Sutter Canes with less style and imagination.

You can't run your Hunter groups or campaign against them seriously. Because they win.

Nyarlathotep at least is bound to certain rules and restrictions whenever mustachio'd investigators manage to beat him with dynamite. These girls are like Nyarlathotep if he never had any plans to defuse and thus had no reason to use any pawns anywhere. They are infinite godmode. That's the entire point. If you win against somehting intended to represent them, then you didn't really beat them, because one of their defining traits, one of the essential properties that makes them THEM, is that they can't be beaten.

Just throwing up an idea here, but what about science (not SCIENCE!!!1!, but plain ol' science) being as tangible a force as magic? And more impostantly, sentient on a level we cannot begin to comprehend? This force hates magic, and as such, brings in technologically-minded people into its sphere, slowly transforming its human servants into cyborgs, cold-hearted rationalists and the like? Could fit in with the scientific faction proposed earlier.

Or maybe it's a worldwide network of technology awakening to sentience to fight witches; lights would flicker when a witch is heading down a treacherous path at night, cars would suddenly accelerate as a witch crosses the road, due to the traffic lights changing irregularly, agents tapping witch phone lines find the connections uncommonly clear...

It exists, it can be beaten. Do it the scientists' way:

Inspect, examine, learn all you can from it's actions and thought processes.

Dissect, examine, learn all you can of it's biological functions.

Use it's own weapons against it. ( I would love a witch hunter campaign in this game)

Pull enough of them apart to see what makes 'em tick, and sooner or later you'll find a way to induce their abilities in anyone you choose.

One of the most insidious foes we at CAP have had to face is the pernicious idea that science and "magic" are somehow separate and even at odds. Do we know how the reality deviants do what they do? Not yet. Can we control it? Yes, more every day. Do we understand it? Soon. Soon.

    -CAP Director J.P.L.

No, keep this the fuck out. The elder witches know how to manipulate the younger witches, but keep them the fuck out of our awesome FUCK YEAH HUMANITY anti-witch agencies.

Have SOME of them trying to manipulate the agencies with varying degrees of success, but so far that's been the most reliable way for an elder witch to get killed by something that isn't another witch.
    >> Anonymous 09/09/09(Wed)01:57 No.5785055
It would make sense for the powers of a witch to diminish with age, instead of increase like a WoD vampire. That would explain why we aren't all ruled by a Supreme Queen Witch, and why the elder witches have to recruit adolescents to do the heavy lifting.

Plus, it is, after all, called Witch GIRLS.

Also, it would fit into the Witch Girls' obsession with/overvaluing of youth and beauty, or "cuteness", to be more accurate.
