What would the proper "knock your ass out" ammo be for a infiltration type: good ol' Stick'n'Shock, or Capsule Rounds + Narcojet? I mean yes, 16S damage vs. Impact (+1AP), but expensive as fucking hell and you stand a chance of actually killing the guy you might want to interrogate Jack Bauer style later on. Also, I keep hearing to mix in DMSO but what's the point if you're already shooting them?

Synaptic booster is generally a good choice, the cyber systems cost far too much essence for my liking. You can top it up by using drugs if you need to.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)12:28 No.5816593
Move-by-wire is the most fun to roleplay. At least for me, as its a computer getting you from A -> B, so you can describe all sorts of fucked up contortions and twists as your body, in some alien-puppet method, covers the distance in the most fluid and inhuman way possible.

It also cost a fortune. Level 2 of that shit costs you 32 bp. And yes, it's possible to pump it to level 3 in chargen for 53 bp (resticted gear advantage from Companion 5 bp, rest is it's cost) which leaves you with whole 2 bp to buy everythign other you need.

    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)15:32 No.5818643
More Essence = more room to stuff in cyberware. Also, penalties on healing rolls (default) and social penalties (optional, Augmentation).
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)15:35 No.5818678

    Move-by-wire + Reaction Enhancers.

Max Total Benefits: +9 Reaction, +3 to Dodge Skill, +3 Initiative Passes.

Of course, you really can't afford the best of both Move-by-wire Reaction Enhancers at chargen, but in the long run some combination of the two is your best bet mechanically.

    Enjoy ur seizures.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)15:49 No.5818859
Seriously, nobody knows one way or another? I must get my ULTIMATE GHOST ARCHETYPE on.

Also, as for the Move-By-Wire problem I'd just take two ranks and a shitload of Jazz inhalers. +9 Reaction is useless when most races top out at 9 Augmented anyway (7 if you're a dorf).
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)15:54 No.5818953

Reaction cap is 9. With move-by-wire 3, you get +6 to your reaction, so with basic reaction of 3, you get all the benefits. But that dodge skill bonus is fucking awesoem.

... and I am not sure if paing 5 essence for it is really worth it. I mean, even alphaversion cost 4 essence.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)15:56 No.5818990
Is there any combat build (street sam or adept) that doesn't use initiative enhancements? Or are these enhancements mandatory?
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)15:59 No.5819031
As a combat monster you NEED at least 2 passes to survive, but cyberware isn't strictly necessary to get it.

See: the aforementioned "shitload of Jazz inhalers"
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)16:03 No.5819100

That doesn't actually happen anymore - you don't twitch either, it's all micro-tremors. Besides only a pathetic DM would do that - it's not like optimization lets you do as much broken as in DnD.

Interestingly Vampires and other Essence draining creatures are really useful - they don't take anything that a Mundane requires, but more than that, the best way to Awaken is to experience insanely potent trauma/emotion and that's essential to the Essence Drain (any emotion can be used).

So Vampires probably create a few Awakened now and then.

The fact that they lose a little Essence isn't that bad - because the best mages all have a degree of cyber/bioware anyway.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)16:05 No.5819142

My group uses stick and shock, it's not as powerful but generally the fire on semi auto and pop them with multiple shots.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)16:07 No.5819174
How does biocompatibility advantage from Agmentation work?

So let's say, that my character buys alphaware wired reflexes 2, do I calculate the cost like this 3*0,8*0,9, for total cost of 2,16 essence, or 3*0,7 for sligthly less 2,1 essence?
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)16:08 No.5819183
Yeah, I'm packing an Ares Alpha so I was gonna be using Wide Bursts anyway, hence mentioning the Capsule was +1 instead of +2
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)16:09 No.5819193
I'd say the former, since you also count the Grade and the 50% if it's lower than your Bioware total seperately.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)16:10 No.5819219
And unless they have heart problem (not very likely considering that sythcardium must be very common in 6th world) it's no going to kill them, so you don't have to worry abgout their kids and wifes hunting you down for revenge!
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)17:51 No.5820590
What's the highest Essence discount possible on 'ware by the RAW?
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)18:07 No.5820779
50% from Delta-grade Bioware or Type O System quality (30BP to treat ALL bio as Delta)
    10% from Biocompatibility quality
50% from Bio total being less than Cyber

So that would be a rating 3 Synaptic Booster (normally 1.5) for 0.3375 Essence, or a rating 3 Adrenaline Pump for (normally 2.25) 0.50625.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)18:09 No.5820807
Idiot question from a first-time SR player:

How necessary is the Electronics Skill Group for an Infiltrator really? I keep seeing it mentioned in the books and FAQs, but shouldn't taking the Hardware skill alone and packing a Rating 3 Agent be enough?
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)18:23 No.5820947

Bioware tops out at 60%, with the Biocompatability(Bioware) Quality and Delta-grade Bio implants.

Cyberware tops out at 70%, with Biocompatability(Cyberware), the Enhanced Protein Exchange(Adapsin) genetweak, and Delta-grade Cyber implants.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)18:29 No.5821013

    >> Anonymous 09/11/09(Fri)18:49 No.5821319

Yeah, but it's still a lot cheaper than most of the really powerful implants, especially once you hit Beta-grade, so a dedicated Street Sam will get it early.

It's in the Chemistry chapter of Arsenal, page 82 under Compounds. 10¥ a dose lets you add Contact as a vector to any toxin. The reason I was confused about people recommending it for the Narojet bullets is because shooting someone should definitely count as INJECTION, and if you miss them/ping their armor it wouldn't count as the skin contact necessary for Contact.

Honestly, how shit is this character? It's the first SR4 dude I've made in YEARS, and completely forgot how the system worked in the interim:

-Yes, I have fluff reasons for Wanted and Records on File.
-Predator/Fake Liscenses/Con/Actioneer Clothes: It's a high-class heist game, so I have to look somewhat presentable while not in full NINJA! mode. "Why yes, I am just xxxxx's perfectly normal bodyguard, do not mind me."
-Lack of programs: GM houserule that we get Common Use programs up to our comm's System rating, and our party Hacker is starting with a shitload of Ergonomic cracking programs, so I'm just counting on him to crack the copy protection in the first 5 minutes.
-Toxin costs not adding up: Another houserule, I get a 50% Narcojet/Neurostun bulk discount from my Street Doc contact due to buying it by the fucking truckload.
-Yes, I know I don't have any init enhancers besides the drugs. That's the first thing on my list in-game.

Horizon took in the technomancers because they knew they'd look good in the long run. Horizon offered sanctuary to the AI's for the same damn reason. Well, it depends if you want to utilize the capacity slots or not. Sure you could get a Customized limb tailored to match the Attributes of the rest of your body, but if you're not gonna load up with smuggling compartments and gyro stabilization and a SMG, you'd be better off using one of the OTHER many other stat-boosting methods.
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)05:33 No.5827923
Been thinking about taking 2 full obvious cyberlegs, upgraded to my body stats, 3 streng and agility enhancements, hydraulic jacks 6, cyberspur and maybe some body enhancement or armor if capacity allows

    Is that awesoem?
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)05:37 No.5827953

Take raptor legs while you're at it as well.
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)05:44 No.5827995
Forgot them. Now I will roll (if I had meat agility 6) 17 dice on jumping just from cyberlegs without counting any skill ranks. If I had atletics skill group at 4, sythcardium 3 and skillgroup reflex recorder for atletics my char would be rollin' 25 dice for jumpin'

Any word on what's happened to Tibet in SR4?
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)05:45 No.5828002
Generally, runners are mercenaries. The Street Sam of the team is as vital as any other part.
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)05:48 No.5828015

That said, a little sublety is not a bad thing, even for the team muscle.

It was mentioned as being totally razed to the ground in I think the southeast asian pirate sourcebook in SR3. Can't remember the name

It's protected by massive m,ana barrier and nobody knows what's happening there. Probably horrors are establishing their main base of operations in tibet.
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)05:58 No.5828067
What? You can walk through a mana barrier (or maybe I'm thinking of another thing). Plus there is satellite recon in 2060.

    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)06:21 No.5828175

Nothing so far. The latest book with info on Tibet is Shadows of Asia, and in that one the Shroud was weakening and the monks were still searching for reincarnation of the Dalai Lama.
At this point in the SR4 timeline, the Dalai Lama must have found.

Didn't one of the SR4 books, i think Runner Havens, mention something about an A.I. converting to Bhuddism and needing elaborate measures to make its pilgrimage to Tibet?

Its true. We fucking love our Shadowrun. Playing a 3rd Edition campaign at the moment, just finished a session. Its a high military/merc campaign, and it kicks ass so far. Only problem I have with it is not enough of the group are deep enough into their RP. So far I've managed to hide the fact my character signed up to kill some fuckers that blew up his family in a botched job. He'll kill any party member that interferes with that, and its going to be either one or the other soon, GM knows, but no one is noticing the hints. This will be good.

tHE sEALS of Tibet (See Dunkelzahn's Will for one, that of Green Gloves) let you pass the Manastorm into tibet unharmed. It's a force 12 mana storm (i forget which book, shadows of asia, I think) that throws up random spell effects like Aussie manastorms and calls up angry spirits. You can get through anyway, some random merc crew did, but the sealsm ake it easier.
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)12:41 No.5830491

But that was in 2064, and the current timeline up to 2072. If she DID have a kid, then it would 7 years old by now...
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)12:44 No.5830515

Yeah, I think it was NEOnet extending coverage so it could make the journey.

Also, SR, especially SR4, rocks. No, it's not strict cyberpunk. But the idea of the global Awakening is pretty damn cool. And if I just wanted to play really dated cyberpunk, I'd play CP2020.

I believe that was the case, but they still use blood magic for certain rituals since it's core to their Aztech religous beliefs. At least these specifically mentioned Aztechnology in the context of blood magic in the Street Magic book.

I forget the book "Aztlan" or something, but there is a section in there suggesting that Aztechnology is run by a horror corrupted great feathered serpent. It's not Vestrivian, but someone in the same sort of situation.
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)20:20 No.5835240
Man, that would suck. The biggest thing about Aztlan is how humans are ruining the world all by themselves, without any nudging from Dragons or Horrors. Even Lofwyr thinks they're fucked up.
    >> Anonymous 09/12/09(Sat)21:10 No.5835768

She also wrote that fuckstupid piece on California dropping 10 meters.
Sure it was what they told her too - but she also wanked around with the Horizon buildup (which, despite being really obvious foreshadowing is fucking shit) - and the obsessive idea of not actually answering any of the mysteries (which works when it isn't a shit mystery) means that the only good explanations (which still don't answer the lack of global extinction) appear as a few lines scattered around.

I really wish they would stop wanking over it - it's nearly as stupid an idea as Tomorrow Never Dies.
    "We make the news"

Admittedly it could be good - but I think they are just going for Evil Facebook run by Deus.

Fuck that - ShadowTwitter? MyCrimes? Hell no, it may work for some groups but that doesn't mean it makes any kind of sense.

Well, the trick with Drakes is to take Latent Dracomorphosis for 5BP - it also gives you immunity to HMHVV, which is good because they made Ghouls into unstoppable engines of biological destruction in the critters book because they don't understand the disease rules.

Ancient History is a shitty designer - he's got the fluff okay, but he seriously thinks that the big shaft that 4A put up Mages makes sense.
Aaron is still worse of course.

Yeah, but they have one of the best public reps - they're like McDonalds if they also had department stores and kids tv.
Oh and tried to end the world by creating an astral bridge to the Horrors (which is why Dunkelzahn died - to power an artifact that would stop it IIRC)

Wow that's appalling - whatever you do don't suck it up and join, it's kinda obvious he's a WoD Mortalfag.
