    Welcome back to Corp Quest.
In this number-crunching quest, each poster is a member of a tiny subcontracting firm that works for TradeStar, a super-corporation in the far future. Your job is initiate a massive mining project on a planet that TradeStar has unofficially named 'Hajjar'. Once you have reached the level of production stated in the first thread, your mission will be complete and you will be allowed to leave the planet, with enough cash to keep you in luxury for the rest of your lives.
However, there are problems. The natives are hostile and there are several other corporations looking to exploit the planet and looking to exploit you. How you deal with these threats is up to you.
In recent events, the nanovirus situation has reached a point of no return. You have abandoned your starship research and have instead decided to tackle the nanovirus yourselves rather than evacuate the planet. Following the legends of the natives, you have discovered the Cave of the Father to be a buried spaceship, concealing a warhead designed to obliterate the virus. In order to make the central brain of the nanovirus vulnerable, you launched the warhead at the heart of the virus, along with a collection of other missles to act as a shield to defend it. Accompanied by several stealth drones, S70, Joanna and even a handful of subcontractors are flying after the missle barrage, preparing to enter the central brain's bunker and eliminate this threat once and for all.

Before I continue, however, I would like the gentlemen who want to contribute to this quest to post. After I am sure a couple of people are interested, I will begin.

Hell, that's enough. Let me inform you in more detail of the situation you are in.

As well as launching the virus destroying missle, you have launched other missles as decoys. These missles include:

    50 EMP Missles
    30 Decontaminant Missles
    15 Herbicide Missles
    15 HE Missiles
    15 Napalm Missiles
    15 Pulse Missles
    15 Thermobaric Missiles

Remember that the virus will attempt the intercept these missles, infect them and disarm them, rendering them useless. If they disarm the virus killer, all of this will be in vain.
The only decoy missles that are remotely effective against the virus at this stage are the decontamination missles - which also do not harm your missles whatsoever.

Currently, all missles are timed to land on the island in a time window approximately 30 seconds before the virus killer and 30 seconds after the virus killer. They're arranged randomly.

You have approximately ten minutes before the missles are in range of being shot down. Would you like to change their arrangement in any form? You can slow them or cause them to accelerate as you wish.
    >> Subcontractor Helus 09/18/09(Fri)18:18 No.5914144
maybe we should speed one of the missiles up to see what kind of anti-air defenses we're facing here. Speed up one EMP rocket. We have the most of those.
    >> Subcontractor Theta 09/18/09(Fri)18:18 No.5914145
Contact all of the other factions on the planet and ask them to send any available missiles to the same location, tell them to send duds, or ones without a payload, or decontamination missiles.
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)18:19 No.5914161
It might be good to accelerate all missiles as they approach the Virus exclusion zone to minimize intercept time.

Would there be any particular disadvantages to this approach?
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)18:22 No.5914193

A sacrificial guinea pig missle would be good.
    >> Plasma !UHUuLXLjhk 09/18/09(Fri)18:25 No.5914221
    Maximum speed already obtained.
At this rate, missles can only be deccelerated.
AR: "We need as many missles as we have to defend ourselves at this rate!"
LP: "Busy defending AlphaRange territory - if it gets past their territory, it gets to ours."
    NEM: "Too busy, too busy!"
MSM: "Fuck off! We need radio silence if I'm going to hide from the world traitors effectively..."
    UP: "... Missles? What missles?"

You can deccelerate all but that one EMP so they arrive in 20 minutes instead of in 10 minutes.

It might be hard to convince the others if they got their backs to the walls, desperation is hard to argue with.

But if EMP have just been rendered useless by the newest generation of the Virus we can ask them to launch all EMP missiles as those will not help them anyways.

Do we by the way have any drones, avaible near the virus? if we can make them selfdestruct fast enough we could use some of those as distraction too.
    >> Plasma !UHUuLXLjhk 09/18/09(Fri)18:43 No.5914446
    Accelerating missle.

Ahead is an island absolutely infested with the virus. It can't even be described an island anymore - it's a living, breathing, thing. An ugly, pulsating black heart lying on the ocean, choking out the virus and hurling it into the air.

However, as the scout missle approaches, it ceases hurling the large clumps of infected material - instead, a thousand pores open up on the blackened soil and from each pore emerges a thousand crows, black avians built completely from the nanovirus, flying straight towards the missle, slamming into it one after another.

    6% Infection.
    14% Infection.
29% Infection - serious communication problems, the camera ceases functioning properly.
    42% Infection.
    57% Infection.
74% Infection - the missle has successfully been disarmed by the virus.
91% Infection - the virus has triggered the self-destruct mechanism and it explodes harmlessly.

    No further contact.
No - you've decided primarily on missles - and missles do move much faster than any method of transportation on your drones. At this rate, they wouldn't be able to catch up.
    >> Subcontractor Helus 09/18/09(Fri)18:44 No.5914462

7 seconds between entry of the exclusion zone and first impact.
8 seconds between first impact and self-destruction.

The missle self-destructed approximately 92 seconds away from optimal target.
    >> Plasma !UHUuLXLjhk 09/18/09(Fri)18:54 No.5914594
    You can slow them to...

15% of maximum speed and still have them remain airborne.

    That gives you 33.3 minutes.

They cannot go any slower than that at this rate.

Is there any particular way you'd like to arrange your missles?

Not good, i guess we will have to concentrate our missiles in as small an area as possible to reduce the amount AA that can be directed against them, of course the missiles must be spread out enough to reduce the risk of succumbing to area damage.

Just what the optimal flight pattern is i will leave to sounder tactical minds.

"Smoke screen" isn't so accurate. It's less of a gas and more of a liquid, so any smoke screen would remain for only a fraction of second.
However, premature detonation of the decontaminant missles would eliminate any trace of the virus in the immediate area.
    >> Plasma !UHUuLXLjhk 09/18/09(Fri)19:02 No.5914675
"There's a chance that the decontaminant might slow the rate of infection - and since your missles are not biological, they shouldn't suffer any negative effect. I can't make promises, however. I haven't dealt with a threat like this before."
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)19:02 No.5914676
Just how large is the Area of effect on the Viral Countermeasure?

I guess we should airburst it if possible, and detonate as soon as we get the node well into the area of effect, Thus maximizing the cleared area and perhaps cutting the flighttime down with a few seconds.
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)19:02 No.5914679
Why don't we split the missles into two separate groups: a diversion group and a protection group (including the nano-virus killer nuke)

The Diversionary group come in at an perpendicular angle to the ground. We should place some effective missiles in this group so the nanovirus believes we're being sincere.

The Protection group comes in from a low angle, with loads of missles under the virus killer to protect it and loads of missiles around it to protect it.

    Sound good?
    >> Subcontractor Helus 09/18/09(Fri)19:02 No.5914680
Good, good. Perhaps Samson 70 can make so they explode in the right time measurement so the damn missile can hit its target.
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)19:07 No.5914731

Problem is that if we do that we have the same number of missiles contending with twice as much AA, taking into account how fast our missile went down that is not good.
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)19:07 No.5914736
Can we have the missles fly up and try to come down over the island?

Like when we used the naplam in that manor. Use the decom missiles this way and have it rain the decom chems down on the island.
    >> Plasma !UHUuLXLjhk 09/18/09(Fri)19:07 No.5914741
Within 20 seconds of hitting optimal target, detonation is capable of removing the virus from a large area of the island, including the location of the brain bunker.
Within 10 seconds of hitting the optimal target, the virus is cleansed from the island but there's a chance that within the hour, reinfection of the island could commence.

Hitting the optimal target would eliminate a portion of the virus on the mainland as well - practically eliminating any chance of reinfection for at least a day, giving you all the time in the world to get the job done.
    >> Plasma !UHUuLXLjhk 09/18/09(Fri)19:10 No.5914756
One, you're underestimating the range of the virus.
Two, it's not chemical, it's sonic. It releases a blastwave of a certain frequency that causes the fragile machinery in the nanovirus to completely disintegrate

    >> Subcontractor Theta 09/18/09(Fri)19:18 No.5914831
Why dont we aim to detonate at the 10 second mark, or whenever a missile gets 25% infection, whatever comes first. This would be done on a missile by missile basis of course.
    >> Subcontractor Helus 09/18/09(Fri)19:19 No.5914834
it isn't a single crow. It's thousands of crows, millions of thousands of nanite virus crows, flying out in a single black chattering wall of death, created and bred with only purpose in mind: stopping those damn missiles.
    >> Subcontractor Ayebohr 09/18/09(Fri)19:20 No.5914846

If the decontaminant missiles are going to be slightly effective, how about we have them staggered throughout the missile group?
And lets put the sonic missile near the rear of the group.
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)19:22 No.5914863
You know what? Fuck it. We won't be able to hit the optimal target.

But we'll get damn close to it, at least.

Have the rest of the missles protect the decontaminant and the virus killer. Virus killer's surrounded by decontaminants. As soon as the decontaminants begin to be infected, begin self-destruction, once every two seconds. From most infected to least infected. This should keep the virus killer protected.

If virus killer gets over 50% between zero and twenty seconds to optimal target, premature detonation. It should have some effect, anyway.

This is the best idea I could come up with.
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)19:22 No.5914865

Hmm... inconvenient, well then here is my proposal, we join up all the missiles accelerate them to top speed, if the missiles are capable of such they perform evasive manuvers as they head toward the target, the Missile flight will be close but spaced apart widely enough to avoid the selfdestruct of another missile, the Viral counter measure will be placed slightl back and high up i n the swar allowing for other missiles to function as ablative armor for it.

We detonate decontamination missiles at opportunity targets like AA or sensor clusters or when they are likely to blow up.

    >> Subcontractor Helus 09/18/09(Fri)19:27 No.5914911
I'm like this idea personally. Try and put the decontaniments and the virus killer in the back, where the crows would hopefully have to go through the most missiles.
    >> Plasma !UHUuLXLjhk 09/18/09(Fri)19:29 No.5914927
You're about an hour and a half behind the missle barrage.

If you prematurely detonate the virus killer more than ten seconds before impact, you'll have to uncover the bunker with your gamma guns before you can access it. There's a high risk of getting infected - but the virus will no longer be harmful if the brain is killed.
If you prematurely detonate the virus killer between zero and ten seconds before impact, there will be virus on the island - but you probably won't be infected.
If it impacts, you won't be infected and the operation will be virus-free.
    >> Subcontractor Ayebohr 09/18/09(Fri)19:30 No.5914930

Idea: Have the missiles go up and up until they are almost out of fuel but can practically fall in a ballistic arc toward the optimum target. Also disable their self-destruct systems if you can.

The virus can't alter their trajectory if the missiles are out of fuel and they can't blow them up if the self-destruct is out.
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)19:38 No.5914993

No but they can subvert them and take them over and with disabled selfdestruct it would be impossible for us to resist this.

Essentialy we would hand our missile flight over to the Virus.
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)19:38 No.5914998

    >> Plasma !UHUuLXLjhk 09/18/09(Fri)19:40 No.5915012
You know what? Let's just fastfoward to when the missles actually meet up.

That blackened, pulsating island is in sight of your missles now. The AlphaRange warheads have met up with yours and they're speeding towards the island.

These are the missles you currently have at your disposal:
    117 EMP Missles
    30 Decontaminant Missles
    15 Herbicide Missles
    15 HE Missiles
    15 Napalm Missiles
    15 Pulse Missles
    15 Thermobaric Missiles
    1 Virus Killer

    Or, as you've classified them:

    192 Distractions
    30 Decontaminant Missles
    1 Virus Killer

    Starting formation?
    >> Subcontractor Dirk 09/18/09(Fri)19:42 No.5915040
All right, got here before an entire thread had finished this time.

I'm for having the EMP missiles cover decontam missiles, have the decontam clear an area, and direct the frequency missile to that spot.
    >> SupernovaRU 09/18/09(Fri)19:43 No.5915047
I'd space out the Decontaminant missiles around the Virus killer, and have each one self destruct in turn when crows are aimed at the virus killer. All others I'd place in a large "sphere" formation around the 30 decomtamination and the virus killer, and make sure the high explosive ones and thermobaric one are on outside of the sphere, so if they detonate they won't take out essential missiles around them.
    >> Subcontractor Thatcher 09/18/09(Fri)19:43 No.5915049
Who cares if they subvert the now useless distractions? The point is that we keep the crows from hitting the virus missile.

Is it possible to do my ballistic arc idea, Plasma?
    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)19:45 No.5915066

Tight formation, Virus Countermeasure hanging back and somewhat high in the flight, top speed, evasive manuvers if possible, decontamination missiles seek out opportunity targets, all missiles set to detonate if infected, Countermeasure goes as close as possible but also detonates if infected.
    >> Subcontractor Dirk 09/18/09(Fri)19:46 No.5915084
See, then you turn "distractions" into "shields," and the virus brain will know to aim for the Virus Killer specifically. I'm all for having some missiles in the way to block for it, but you can't have it be obvious.

The missles pass into the exclusion zone. This time, the virus seems slightly better prepared, pores already formed and million of crows being spat out. This time, it's five seconds between entry and first impact.

One by one, the warheads begin to blacken, their cameras fading into static as the virus takes over. As you request, they peel away one by one by one to detonate, slowly exposing the shield of decontaminants. By the time twenty seconds have passed since first impact, dozens of the distraction warheads have been taken out and the decontaminators are slowly being contaminated. One or two crows have even passed through to hit the virus killer purely by chance.

    >> Anonymous 09/18/09(Fri)20:18 No.5915481
You're an hour and a half from it. You can't even see it on the horizon.

In order to open a window, your missles at the front detonate, one by one, the blast knocking back dozens of crows - out of the endless millions. The murder of avians becomes thicker and thicker as more of the swarm over your missles.

Suddenly, like a pair of pincers, a group of crows suddenly curve around the main bulk, smashing into the missles at the back - the ones you were meant to be protecting, according the virus.

The decontaminants begin to peel off and detonate, showering the rest with the corrosive material to try and eliminate the virus. Still after twenty seconds, there has been nothing but an increase of the presence of the virus on the virus killer. You're doing your best - but the countermeasure can only be so well protected.

Head towards the island. It... it might have worked. We have to make sure whether or not it worked. And if it didn't...

We charge the core anyway. We don't have any other choice. We either kill the core, or die trying. The rest can escape aboard one of the pirate ships. Liberate Te Ex Infernis.

Do we have any drones on our transport?

If not, there's not enough time.

If it worked, it worked at 10 seconds, which means there will still be actives virus nanites at the site. Taking time to get drones out there will only make our entrance the more difficult.

We need to get there and see for ourselves.

    >> Subcontractor Sangeyla 09/18/09(Fri)21:14 No.5916168
By the way I've got a plan to maybe survive this without TradeStar on our asses. Of course it's highly dependent on the nanovirus not winning, otherwise running is our bet option

A plan for surviving after this ends.

    This relies on several things;
    1) The Ability to buy clones of ourselves from Lemmington
    2) The Ability to buy new identities from some other faction (My preference is the Martian Navy, but Uni-Peace might go for it (We have Joanna))
    3) Blowing up all our facilities in a single gigantic explosion when the Head of Hajjar affairs comes to collect the core
    4) Getting said Head actually into a facility
    5) Getting the fuck off this rock

Now, the plan is as follows: We buy clones of ourselves, get some new identities, wait for the Head of Hajjar affairs to get here, then get him down to one of our facilities. After that, we need to remotely detonate all our shit in a pattern that looks enough like a concentrated attack, our clones in the base gives enough evidence that we died too. Then, we get Uni-Peace to take the credit.
    >> Subcontractor Archer 09/18/09(Fri)21:16 No.5916186

    >> Subcontractor Helus 09/18/09(Fri)21:16 No.5916193
The honor has been all mine.

Alright guys, listen up. We've been warned that there might still be Tradstar droids in the bunker with the core- droids we don't control, and more importantly, droids that would be mechanical and as such won't be effected by our gamma guns. But if I remember correctly, we do have lasers built into our suits, so if we're lucky, we might be able to take them out with those. Now let's do this. For Alpharange. For Lemmington. For Uni-peace, and everyother faction on this damned planet, and yes, even those damn monkeys. Lets do this for every slant eyed motherfucker who ever tried to make a buck in this galaxy and winded up in much deeper shit then they ever thought possible.

    Let's just fucking DO this.

An hour and a half later, you arrive.

The sight is incredible. A serene, completely still landscape, not a single living thing in sight, virus or otherwise. The island is pitch black. Everything is covered in a layer of the finest black sand imaginable, as smooth as silk and completely, unutterably dead.

Small flakes of the virus rain from the heavens in the billions, dead and inanimate, unable to do any harm at all. Amidst the cold, still sandscape, you can see a shape, an unnaturally shape. A concrete bunker, the roof carrying the faded insignia of TradeStar. Your destination. The virus was never able to enter the bunker - but who knows what hidden TradeStar secrets remain.

You had enough time during your brief stop at your base to gather anyone else who wants to come and any weapons you wanted.

    Currently, you have:
18 Stealth Drones with Lasers and Gamma
1 Samson 70 with Laser and Gamma in a stealth drone.
1 Joanna with Laser and Gamma in a stealth suit.
1 Irony with Laser and Gamma in a stealth suit.
