34 KB Tactics Quest Part 5 (continued!) NotAnotherQuestFag! 09/21/09(Mon)06:20 No.5950279
The sound of rubble blowing out overhead and the screams of men drown out your thoughts and you crumble to your knees.

The horrible toll of entering an artillery marked building is just now becoming apparent. Your comrades, dying, your brothers in arms, made hoarse by their own screaming.

Above the roar of the thundering mortars is the stench of pestilence. Disease, rotting waste, filling your nostrils. The rebels are outside. And they are more than willing to spread their gift to you.

The pounding stops and the building stops shaking. All around you men cry out as their comrades are found lifeless under rubble or, worse still, crying out for the mercy of a quick death as huge blocks of rock crete pin limbs in a lethal death vice.

You are a Sergeant leading a small platoon of men in the Ventran 149th. You were tasked with holding this square on the outskirts of Dresden Hive. You can hear the sound of boots as the diseased rebels downstairs try to break down the reinforced door.

    What do you do?
    >> Anonymous 09/21/09(Mon)06:24 No.5950307

    Alright, status check.

How are the men? Did any of Squad #2 survive?

Did we lose any of the heavy weapons during the bombardment?

You look around and call for muster. Over the battering of shoulders against the reinforced door down stairs you hear the voices of 6 tired soldiers.

You doubt the men downstairs heard you. If there are any other suvivors in the room they are either buried too deep to be heard, already dead, or too injured to say anything.

    Platoon Strength!
    Command Section
    You (Shotgun)

    Squad 2
    5 Rifles, 1 Sniper

You are all armed with frag, krak and smoke grenades

It is possible to search for further survivors either on this floor or the rooftop above. However, any survivors down stairs will likely require your leadership in order to get out of this situation.

Search for survivors on both floors.

Have the surviving members of Squad #2 fire down at any of the horsemen below. Keep thinning their numbers.
Rally the men on the first floor, brace the reinforced door and prepare an ambush.

Meanwhile, find the vox-operator and get command on the line. Inform them that the arch-enemy has reared it's ugly head. We'll be needing flamers, meltas and LOTS of promethium before the day's through. Ask if they've got any reinforcements they can spare that are equipped as such (anti-armor is a plus).
    >> girder 09/21/09(Mon)06:40 No.5950409
    >>5950396
Note that informing command of the appearance of Bob the Most Vile Pretender is of utmost importance.

That should get them on their toes.

    >>5950373

(Since the last few threads have been relatively slow to start, I'll be taking one post suggestions for actions seriously.)

You tell Squad 2 to resume fire on the rebel forces beneath. The crack of lasgun fire is a most welcome addition to the sounds that still assault your senses.

You see several members of the diseased rebels go down. You congratulate yourself on this minor victory. As if on cue, more rebels round the corner in the distantance, advancing on the building at steady pace. With just 7 men, it is unlikely that you can hold that many men off. You need to gather the rest of the survivors in the building and get out.
    >> ThatGuy !!VGs43RyCnbv 09/21/09(Mon)06:44 No.5950430
I suggest we have a few men refrain from thinning the horsemen numbers and watch the door, so that they can alert us if the door gives free, hopefully there is some cover they can use if the door does indeed come down.

You head downstairs and find several men already up and about, barricading the door to the governmental building.

They look at you with relief.

"We thought you were a goner sir."

You smile gently. You give them orders to account for themselves.

-3 Rifles, One RUSTY VENTURE (grenade launcher operator) with TOUGH SHIT and LUCKY SOB

    Squad 1
    -One Flamer

You signal someone to relate your situation to command. As your men continue to barricade the door command chirps in over the vox line.

'Sergeant, you are not the only platoon currently under heavy assault by rebel forces. All our reserves are currently commited to other breakthrough areas. Hold until reinforcements arrive!'

They cut off before anything else can be said. Deep down, you know that you have to get out. One of your men upstairs has reported that they have spotted ad-hoc armour in the distance.

In your expert estimation, the current barricade at the door will hold the horsemen outside for some time yet.

(You have time for one of the three actions, Look for an Escape route, Gather Survivors, or Reinforce the Door. Reinforcing the door will grant you time for more actions, more time spent gathering surviors will see you acquire the gear of the fallen or find more soldiers. (Back to it then)

The sniper and riflemen of Squad 2 report that the mob has dissipated but other wise have left a substantial amount of men at the door. The rebel reinforcements now fill the town square. The are carrying rifles. Squad 2 has had to stop returning fire but has continued to recon the area for you. It says the ad-hoc vehicle had drawn closer. It seems to be an armoured bull-dozer...

You instruct your men to booby trap the door by bundling your grenades together. The men ask you which grenade type they should use? (they will be out of this type of grenade for the rest of the combat op, choose wisely!)

Your men continue to look for a power source. They've found an adjacent generator room but will require additional manpower to get it working again. (Action Complete!)

(You have Two Actions left! You can continue searching, booby trap the building, get ready to evacuate in the lift or prepare for a last stand. It will take one action to power the generator.)
    >> girder 09/21/09(Mon)11:27 No.5951162
    >>5950975
    >armoured bull-dozer

    Is that all?

Call up Rusty and have him lob krak grenades at the vehicle. That ought to do it.

Also, use frag grenades on the booby trap. And toss one krak grenade at the men near the door.

Send three of the men from Squad #2 down stairs to help with the repair. The last two plus Rusty and the sniper on the roof to try and take out the bulldozer. Give Rusty covering fire while he attacks the bulldozer. Prepare to rush back down.

From here on we have two options:

Either we retreat back down the elevator shaft, in which case we need to figure out if we can salvage the heavy bolter and bring it with us.

Alternatively, we could set up a position overlooking main door. We can set-up an ambush and use the door as a choke point, cutting down the enemy with las and bolter fire. As a last resort we can fall back to the elevator.
    >> girder 09/21/09(Mon)11:30 No.5951188
    >>5951162
Note that the stand and fight plan all depends on whether or not we can take down that bulldozer. If Rusty can't do it we need to retreat down the elevator shaft because it'll rob us of our only choke-point if it just smashes it's way in.
