I'd say sorry for the delay, but somehow I doubt anybody actually noticed.

For newcomers, the first thread is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/6126535/

WHEN WE LAST SAW OUR INTREPID HERO...

You had just landed sans parachute in the Mexican town of Salina Cruz as part of MASTODON BATTALION.

You are Corporal David Lister, Zaku IIJ pilot from the 1st Company of MASTODON BATTALION as part of Operation Elephant, Zeon's decoy operation to draw American forces away from New York and California.

Hence why this Orbital Drop was apparently done at 0% Minovsky Particle Density.

You are currently in the Suburbs of Salina Cruz, you are in Radio contact with your CO, Sergeant Wolfgang Strauss.

    What do you do?

Keep in formation with eyes peeled, scanning sensors if possible.

    >Try to ascertain Strauss's location via radio, and meet up with the rest of the squad. Try not to step on any houses along the way.

Since there's currently no Minovsky Particles flying about, his signal is pretty easy to find. You proceed to make your way to his location.

You arrive at the park area where Straus and your Wingman Zolomon Ringo are waiting.

"Well, the damage to your suit doesn't look to bad. I've just got our orders over the radio. Were to head to the HLV dropzone and secure it, dealing with any hostiles we find on the way. Once we get there we can rearm and repair."

NOTE: Your suit took a hit on its shield whilst landing. The Shield is non-functional, but the rest of the unit is otherwise intact.

Strauss takes point with you in the rear; Zolomon is in the middle because he has the Bazooka, and the lowest ammo.

"Keep your eyes peeled for Man-portable AT weapons, don't get taken by surprise!"

    >What type of sensors do we have available to scan with since minovsky density is so low? magnetic detectors/infrared/radar?

Your MS-06J Is equipped with Infra-red sensors as well as radar.

Things like Magnetic sensors and ground sonar are the domain of dedicated support units.

    >Keep in formation with eyes peeled, scanning sensors if possible.

Radar shows nothing in your sensors radius, Looks like if there are any military airfields in the town, they haven't scrambled yet. That said, your radar only stretches out 3.6 km.

You switch to Infra-Red, but you've arrived in mid-afternoon, and everythings radiating heat, making it difficult to spot people.

It'll be easier to spot them with the Mark 1 Eyeball.

AFK got to go have dinner.

When I get back, who would like a quick course in Minovsky Particles and You?

    ... I'll take that as a no.

Long story short: Minovsky Particles = Magic Radar and Radio retarding particle. Also useful in making small nuclear fusion engines.

Your squad is moving along a careful pace, towards the HLV dropzone which is just outside of town.
Your Zaku moves heavily along the ground, the cockpit is designed to deal with the constant motion of the Mobile Suit, but after the drop and then the landing, you still feel a little quesy.
Hopefully it'll be like Zero-G Sickness and pass after a couple of days, or that sensation that the room isn't spinning fast enough is going to get old very fast.

After about 30 minutes of travel, the Suburbs give way to hills. You reach a crossroads when Strauss gives the hand signal to stop from his Zaku.
He points down the road on the left. About half a kilometer away you can see a large plume of dust.

    Incoming Federation Armour.

    Your orders?

    >Stop, prep MG and hide behind a hill, wait for the tanks to roll past and hit the flanks in an ambush. Use heat hawk if necessary.

The rest of your squad follows suit and rests their mobile suits just below the crest of the hill and wait for the tanks to get close.

Just as they get close, Sergeant Strauss gives the order to attack.
He leaps up on his thrusters rising up a good 40 meters right in front of the tanks, with thermonuclear jets flaring and smoke everywhere, getting their attention.
The tanks try to elevate their barrels, but he's already to high. He fires a long burst from his rifle at the apex of his jump.

You take advantage of the tanks distraction to catch them in a crossfire with your own MG, and Zolomon throws a Cracker Grenade at them for good measure.

The combined crossfire and the cracker grenade take out all five tanks in the space of a few seconds, and leaves this road upassable for ground vehicles until the Tank's burning husks are moved out of the way.

Note: I'm not giving you kills for those AA emplacements you were shooting at earlier because those were unconfirmed kills.

After dealing with the tanks Strauss orders you to double time it to HLV's. The terrain, whilst hilly afford little else in the way of cover and the Feds haven't had time to lay down mines yet.

Your Zaku breaks out into a run, the other two have to use their jet's to keep pace, you however stride confidantly across the hilly terrain that your MS-06J Zaku II was designed for.

You crest the hill after ten minutes, revealing the valley where the 12 HLV's used for Operation Elephant landed.
They're already unloading, mostly in Trucks, Heavy Trucks and other light vehicles. The trucks are being loaded with spare ammo, weapons, parts and crew.

Also, it looks like the AA Company has been unloaded and has set itself up in defensive positions.
You notice a custom Super Heavy Vehicle Lifter is currently unpacking something, but it looks like their hydraulics got damaged whilst landing, and the main door isn't opening.

The Magella AA begin to move, something seems to have got their attention. A quick check of your Radar reveals why, 12 slow moving air targets advancing on your position.

Without Minovsky Particles your ground units will be sitting ducks against Federation Guided Missiles. Heaven help you if they take an HLV which has still got fuel out.

You run over to the HLV just as the Fin-Fan light gunships get within visual range.
The AA Tanks begin filling the sky with flak.

You reach the lifter, the door is partially open allowing you to use the Zaku's hands to grasp inside and pull backwards, the doors groan, but refuse to move.
In frustration you dump your MG and pull out your Heat Hawk and slice downwards onto the doors hydraulics.
You have to hack away twice before you see them give way.

Over the radio you can hear that Strauss and Zolomon have already opened fire.
    You hear Zolomon cry "Missed!"

You grasp the doors again and give a mighty yank. There's a shower of sparks and the doors finally slide down and you jump out of the way as the Land Cruiser glides down the ramp.

    "Missed again"

The cruiser appears to be a variant of the Gallop that you've not seen before. Possibly a custom model or new prototype.
As soon as it's free you notice the Minovsky Particle Sensor jump to 70% Density instantly.

Just in time too, as you can then here the WHOOSH of the FinFan's firing their missiles all at once, and almost all of them missing.

You retrieve your MG (your Heat Hawk is currently underneath the Lifter's door) and look for any targets of oppourtunity.

The Fin Fans have already lost half of their number and are now making a retreat. From the looks of it, they were loaded with high yeild close range missiles, that's why they had to get so close.
It looks like you only lost a couple of tanks and a few unmanned light vehicles.

You see Zolomon discard his Bazooka in irritation, take out his heat hawk and throw it at the retreating mass.
The Axe flies with impressive accuracy and seems to slice to the right in just the right way to catch five of the retreating gunships.

4 Spare Drums on hips. 100 rounds each

2x 3 Tube Missile Pods (4 Missiles remaining)

There not new for a start. The FinFan is a small but relatively fast helicopter variant, mostly built as a delivery platform for guided weapons.
Minovsky particles make them largely redundant, but they might make decent harrassers. It depends how willing the Federation are going to be to throw away peoples lives.

If the Feds had been smart, as soon as they noticed you weren't using Minovsky Particles they'd have loaded them up with long range guided missiles and fired from over the horizon.

It was probably what they were loaded with when the call came in.

"That was the point when we discovered that these SHVL's have hulls thick enough to prevent minovksy spreading... As it is, we were lucky to only lose two Zaku's on the drop itself, and hell, one of them was unavoidable machine error."

He sighs again, it's been a long day.

"You've earned a decent nights sleep with your performance today. Go pick one of the spare sleeping quarters and get some shut-eye. Don't get too attatched to the room were going to be cycling out the unused sleeping rooms between the rest of the battalion. We'll wait for the rest to make it here, then we've got to go hell for leather towards panama. You're going to need your rest, it may be all you get in the next few days."

Check in on your Zaku then find a break room, and talk to your team over beers.

What do you think? Can we call it a day there?

I'll try to have part 3 on Friday.

It will also give me the time to perhaps mock up some character portraits for some of the characters.

If you are gonna do a regular quest thread, I suggest doing it later at night on like a Friday at a regular time. I think you will get more people that way.

Oh hey. The F2. You know, if Char had taken a couple of those with him to Side 7 (which he totally could have by the time that he does this) instead of F types then Mobile Suit Gundam would have been a depressing One-Shot.

Thanks. I'll remember that. I've noticed that /tg/ seems to pick up about 5ish in the afternoon.

    Our squadron needs an emblem.

I suggest a burning dorf below a Zeon emblem.
