We took out some tanks, blew the bloody doors off, nearly got killed by the weakest cannon fodder in Gundam Canon and then got debriefed by our commanding officer after we saved the day.

    (SERIOUSLY TOMINO WHAT?)

Anyway, you are currently aboard The Prancer, a Gallop MSV retooled as a dedicated support vessel. Attatched to it is the Loki Particle Emissions Pod, a large scale Minovsky Particle Generator currently attended to by Engineers from the 603rd Test Squadron.

You have been dismissed by Captain Fontaine and allotted a room to catch a nights sleep.

After being dismissed the three of you decide to find a room to bunk for the night.

You pass the time playing cards for a few hours and then turn in. The following morning when you awake you notice the hum of the hoversystems on the Prancer. The Land Cruiser appears to be moving at high speed.

You all get up and dressed and get your orders from Company command. You've pulled flank escort duty.

After being repaired and re-armed your mobile suits were taken out and lashed to the side of the Prancer. When you get to them you notice that as well as your Kill Marks, the Battalion Badge has been added.

Currently the marching order for Mastodon Battalion is as follows:

In the Centre: Support Vehicles and The Prancer.
The Loki is bomabrding the area with Minovsky Particles in a random fashion, making your exact position hard to pinpoint.

Inner Reserve Ring: 1st Company and AA Assets

    Medium Support Ring: 2nd Company

Outer Patrol Ring: 3rd Company + Mechanized Infantry assets

Beyond the Patrol Rings are 4 Luggun Scout Planes who fly outside the Minovsky Interference and scan for incoming enemy forces.

Three wings of Dopp fighters patrol the general area.

You are currently making doubletime out of Mexico, and will reach Guatemala by Lunchtime.

That is an EXCELLENT nick-name for it. I am totally going to have to steal it.

Anyway. Come Eight in the Morning, your company is rotated out to the Outer Ring. Around 10 you enter Guatemala, Laser Comms from the Prancer tell you that they've got a warm welcome.

Two Tank companies heading your way.

    Your orders?

(You are still armed with a 120mm Machine Gun, but it is now fully armed, and you have two spare drums. Your Heat Hawk has been retrieved and you have 2 Cracker Grenades)

ZOLOMON RINGO is still armed with a Bazooka, but now has 4 reloads.

HOLY SHIT. I thought the thread went and died...

    >Look for cover, try to hide somewhere and lob a cracker when they get in range, followed by MG fire. Get Zolomon on a good firing position.

You find a small hilly section of land up ahead and take up firing positions. From there you can see the enemy advance.
Your mono-eye zooms in to get a close look, and you can see roughly 15 Type-61 battletanks.
Initially no sign of infantry, but you switch to Infra-red and you spot a small platoon entrenched behind them.
A quick check on your sat-nav reveals them to be holed up just on the Guatemalean (sp?) border.

At this point you notice several low flying aircraft: Fly Manta Fighter Bombers. The feds have been harrassing the Battalion with probing strikes from Fly Manta Wings all morning and this latest strike is probable meant to coincide with the Tanks attack.

You are currently in ambush positions, but it looks like the Fly Manta's will be going directly over you. Do you break cover to take out the Fly Manta and then take on the Tanks, or do you keep the element of suprise?

Again... sorry about leaving the thread, it's just from the looks of it, nobody responded to the thread until 4 hours after I left it, so I assumed it had died.

    HURRAH! A POST!

You open up on the Fly Manta's as they fly overhead, one of them explodes instantly, closely followed by a second, Strauss opens up with you, clipping another, it spins out of control and crashes into the ground.

With the element of suprise lost, Zolomon pops up out of cover and fires his Bazooka at the Tanks. They are still in close formation and the 240mm Rocket hits one of the tanks in the rear of the formation. The explosive force hurls the Tank into the air, and it manages to land somewhat on another, which stops moving.
The turret is still moving however, so odds are only the tracks are damaged.

The remaining Tanks begin to spread out making it harder to catch. They also increase speed towards you, from the looks of it, they are trying to encircle you.

    What do you do?

You MIGHT get one of those during the Africa part of the campaign (if we can get that far).

    >Start moving our team to the side to avoid getting flanked while attacking with our MG.

Your team breaks cover in an attempt to prevent yourself from being surrounded, firing as you go. With the hills prevent one arm of the pincer movement from firing at you , only about 6 of the tanks have a clear shot at your squad.

Your combined fire takes down three of them before they can shoot back, and the smoke and flying dirt makes targeting you difficult.
There's a loud *PANG* and your Zaku momentarily stumbles as a shell hits you in the left foreleg. Your armour holds and you're able to get the Zaku in control without falling.
Whilst charging forward, the entrenched infantry start firing mortar rounds at you, but they're too light a warhead to actually do more than make your aim a little shaky.

When you get close enough you hurl a Cracker at the tanks, though it does little real damage.

Zolomon charges in and kicks one of the tanks upside down, before slicing the turret off the last one with his Hawk.

A quick check behind you shows that the second half of the tank company has rounded the hills and is heading towards you. Also Strauss points out a cluster of dots in the distance: more incoming Fly Manta F/B's.

Reinforcements from the 2nd Company Support Squads should be only a few minutes away, unless this attack has been timed to coincide with multiple attacks.
You have no way to currently tell.

You open up with a quick salvo from your Leg Rockets, partially to break the incoming Tank's formation, and also to give Zolomon time to reload. Two of the rockets miss, but one manages to catch a tank in the tracks, flipping it sideways spectacularly.

They're return fire is sporadic and innaccurate, and you barrel forward into it, Zolomon joins the two of you, his Bazooka now reloaded.

Apparently they meant 7pm US Western time.

    >>6213714

    >We're probably low on ammo and need to reload.

Actually, you've been pretty economical with your shots, you've still got a good 50 shots left before reload.
Strauss has been even more economical, he's not even past the half way point on his drum.

    >Entrench, and unlaod whatever you can to take out the bombers. Stagger reloading so that at least 2 Suits are firing at any one time.

You retake the cover afforded by the small hilly area and begin to fire on the Fly Manta's. It looks like two full wings of five, which begin to make low flying strafing runs at your with their dumb-fire rockets.

They're probably saving their bombs for the Prancer.

By having to get so low, they make for an easier target, but it also makes you easier to hit as well.

The three of you start firing heavily at the planes as they come close, using up ammo heavily. Their missiles chew up the ground, but by keeping mobile and dodging just at the right moment you're able to avoid them.

It looks like the Federation pilots are still trying to get used to having to actually aim for a change, instead of relying on guided weapon.

After five kills, they pull up outside your firing range.
Then they start to drop bombs. The first one hits the ground lest than fifteen metres away from Zolomon and the explosion knock him on his back, the power cabling for his legs severed.

"Mah leg! It's not responding!" He cries.

The bombs are continuing to drop.

    >That's allot of Fruit Fuckers

Those aren't Fruit Fuckers. Those are TEN METER TALL FRUIT FUCKERS ARMED WITH FRIKKIN LASER PISTOLS.

    >You and Strauss keep moving, but don't move too far from Zolomon. Dance around, put up as much fire as possible, and make yourselves more threatening and high-priority targets in general for the bombers than your downed squaddie.

You scatter outwards trying to draw the Fighter Bombers attention and after seeing you retreat they cease dropping bombs and start to reform to continue their attack run...

At which point a single wing of Dopp fighters plow into them. All of the Fly Manta's explode in a mix of vulcan and rockets in a single pass.

You get the feeling that they've getting a lot of practice this morning.

Zolomon manages to right himself. His Zaku lost it's right arm and the Bazooka and is dragging it's leg.

"You know you could have dragged me out of the pickle zone you know..." he grouses

"And risk losing the entire squad?" Strauss replies.

You can see a squad of reinforcements arriving on scene. Zolomon needs to return for repair, but both you and Strauss still have a fair amount of ammo left (your rifles could do with a reload though)

Strauss links up with the supporting Squad from Second Company about the tactical Situation.
Seems that a second Fly Manta Squadron mounted an attack from the rear, which drew the attention of the other two Dopp wings.
With their destruction things are looking quiet.

You take this oppourtunity to reload. Strauss does the same.

The Lugguns are moving back into place, but there's no up to date tectical recon available.

After sighting the Luggun, Sergeant Strauss sends a lasercom relayed through it back to the snail asking for a Samson to come and rendezvous with Zolomon to carry him back to the Snail.

You take a look at the trenches on the border in infra-red. Looks like the retreating Tanks picked them up.

The Luggun moves out of the Minovsky Interference range, and relays the situation back to you and the Snail.
Seems that the tanks are retreating back to a Medea transport. They're too far ahead to be intercepted before the plane takes off. They still seems to be in full retreat.

The Supporting Squad returns to the reserves, taking Zolomon with them until they meet with the Samson, which takes him back to the Snail.

The two of you continue your forward patrol, and by lunchtime, Mastodon Battallion crosses into Guatemala.

After you enter Guatemala the attacks begin to lessen. You and Strauss continue your patrol alone until one, when 1st company is cycled into Support.

Zolomon returns around 2, now carrying some sort of large bore cannon.

Apparently Okawara was bored and discovered that Mastodon Battalion kept all of the AA Magella's old gun-barrels. (The Current AA Configeration uses slightly larger barrels to fire clustered Flack shells.)

ZOLMON is now armed with 1 Magella Attack Cannon with 5 shells, and two reloads + 2 Crackers.

You quickly march through the main roads of Guatemala city, and then on to Honduras. If the Feds continue to hold off with the attacks then you should reach it by evening.

Whilst the Feds continue to hold off, they do make the occaisional probing attack with Fly Manta's but nothing serious.

More worrying is that Lugguns keep reporting Medea transports travelling alongside and behind. It looks like forces from North America are beginning to arrive on scene...

You reach Honduras at five in the evening. In about an hour your Company is put on reserve and your allowed to return to the Snail to Repair, Rearm and get some food and then some shut-eye. In another 5 hours you'll be back up on Patrol.

    Essentially.

Anyway, you and the rest of the squad is woken up at 11. The rest did you some good, but you still feel tired. It's a good thing the Heimdal adjusted everyones sleeping patterns to american time before the drop, or you would have been completely shattered.

Luckily, Nighttime is expected to be quiet, the Feds are still adapting to ground war without radar or radio. They haven't mounted a night attack yet, and Company Captain Curtis thinks they're still marshalling their forces for a big attack somewhere.

You bypass Honduras's capital of Tegucigalpa, as your Lugguns can't get decent intel with Sonar or Magnoscope and Captain Fontaine doesn't think it's worth the risk.

You're pretty sure you sport a couple of tanks dug in. So it's probably for the best.

This happens just before 4am on the 11th. At four, you're once again cycled back into support.

If you keep making good time, you'll be in Panama City by this evening.
Of course, if they're going to stage any sort of counter attack it's going to be Panama or nowhere.

Over Breakfast, you talk with Sergeant Strauss about when he thinks the attacks going to come.

"Well, you got to understand, we've been doing okay so far. But that's probably because we've only been dealing with provincial bumfucks in old equipment. If the big bases at New York and California send everything they've got.... which they SHOULDN'T... if Fed tac doctrine is the same on the ground as it is in space, they always keep at least a 10% reserve for base defence. But if they do, were dead. We'll hold out for maybe a day or so, but we wont last long after that."

After delivering that depressing bombshell he finishes eating what was on his fork (a fried tomato you think) and continues speaking.

"Of course, hopefully by that point they'll be getting the news that the REAL invasion has begun, and then they'll high-tail it out. Leaving us to do... whatever."

You ask him when the real invasion is due.

Whoops. Teaches me to post without proofreading.

Anyhow, you catch a few more hours of sleep before being put out on Patrol again.
You're still tired, but at least you aren't as bad as the Dopp pilots. The constant Fly Manta attacks are really beginning to take their toll. A full wing of Dopps has already been destroyed, and the pilots themselves are getting even less sleep than you are.

You entered Costa Rica whilst you were asleep, and San Jose is about an hours travel away.

It's at this point that the Lugguns start to report a LOT of activity up ahead. Radar's showing at least two full squadrons comprised of Sabre Fish Heavy Fighters and Fly Manta's flying over what appears to be several smaller vehicles surrounding a much larger vehicle. The Saberfish an Earth Federation high-speed space fighter built by the Hervic Company starting in U.C.0076. Designed to launch from the Federation's Columbus-class carriers or to, in dire straits, attach to and launch from the hulls of the Federation's Salamis and Magellan-class space warships, the Saberfish could also be utilized in atmospheric combat.

The Saberfish was armed with four 25 mm machine guns and 12 missile launchers, which gave it enough firepower to kill a first-generation mobile suit like the Zaku II, but it fell victim to the high mobility of mobile suits, which were capable of circling around (thanks to their AMBAC manuveurs) and attack the poor fighter from the rear. Nevertheless, it continued to see service well into U.C.0087, despite the continued odds stacked against it. Many Federation mobile suit aces of the One Year War such as Bernard Monsha, South Burning, and Yuu Kajima first earned their wings piloting this starfighter.

There are about 15 of these as well as an equal number of Fly Manta's heading your way.

The Dopps aren't going to be much of a match for them.

Storing the Axe on the Shield would require a fair bit of engineering. There's no problem with just holding the Axe though, apart from the fact that the left hand is used to stabilize the gun when firing, and also to absorb recoil. Without it, you'd take a loss in accuracy and the repeated recoil might damage your arm actuators.

    >>6215238

    >New plan! Let them go overhead, then start shooting them in the ass.

You wait until the planes pass overhead, and then you let them have it. Zolomon discovers that the Magella Cannon works excellently as an AA weapon and starts taking them out in clumps, the rest of you get decent results with your MG's. It's a target rich environment, so targeting a breeze.

After the first few attacks however, the planes begin to swoop around like a shoal of fish to target you.
They can't see you, but they have a general idea. The Saberfish start firing rockets blindly into the foliage and the Fly-Manta's start dropping their bombs.

You have to keep on the move to keep alive, which cut's down on your firing and accuracy.
Luckily for you, by concentrating on your squad, they're taken by surprise when two squads from 3rd Company start firing into the formations.

Unluckily for you, the jungle is now on fire, your Zaku's can handle the heat, but the light vehicles supporting the Snail will need a path cleared for them.
The smoke is making it next to impossible to target the airforces.
The Squads from 3rd are upwind and unaffected.
Downwind incidentally, is the direction where the Land Fortress is suspected to be...

You move away from the fires direction so you can get a clear shot at the air-forces. You snag a few more kills between you, but the formations have mostly split apart in a chaotic fashion. After a few minutes the Fighters cut their losses and flee.
During this time the wind has shifted blowing the fire in an easterly direction.
This is basically good news for you as it means that the fire won't spread to where the Snail is (which is due north) on the other hand, you've lost cover from the smoke.

    >Call HQ and request Minovsky.

    >We need to get close to that battleship and hit the bridge ASAP.

You quickly link up with the survivors from 3rd. They're in a bad shape, damaged parts and scratched paint.

The heavy shelling is continuing, but it's not that accurate, and dropped off as 3rd Company moved west, oddly enough.

"We were doing okay until that last artillery hit. Took out Captain Oswabia and Sergeant Drahn. We're down to just three suits, and we're all low on ammo."

Meanwhile Sergeant Strauss was able to find a Luggun and get a laser comm off, requesting Minovsky support.

"Okay, listen up everyone! The call from Command is that the Loki is going to refocus it's minovsky spread towards us, which SHOULD cover us as we advance on the battleship. They're waking up 2nd Company now to reinforce our losses. If you 3rd Company boys want in, me and these losers are going to take on that battleship."

One of the Zaku's raises it's hand

"I've got a few more shots left in my Magella Cannon, I can support you with fire support, but I can't really push my suit further than that."

The rest of them agree to keep the gunner company, but they're too beat up and low on ammo to risk anything else.

At your Sergeants orders you begin marching south towards the Land Battleship.

Personally: 1 9mm Sidearm, and you are currently wearing your combat suit, which has heat regulation, and it's own oxygen supply.
Basic survival pack stored in cockpit.

The Zaku: 120 MG 34 shells remaining in Drum, 4 reloads. Leg mounted missile launchers still full loaded.

    >Approach the battleship at a good pace while keeping to cover and watching for flankers. Try to keep to ground to avoid air strikes.

You plan to move to where the Battleship was last sighted, if it's still there, your fire support will fire on that position with your signal (a green flare) the signal to stop firing is a red flare, and the signal to retreat is a white one.

With the Minovsky percentages now sufficient for you to move with reduced detection you make good speed through the jungle.
You don't meet any picket forces oddly and you carefully come to a clearing.

You see a Big Tray surrounded by trucks and cranes surrounding it. From the looks of it, the Big Tray's tracks damaged themselves somewhere, immobilising the vehicle.
Engineers are currently swarming over the giant vehicle.

    >Call for the shelling with the flare.

You launch green flares, and the rest of the squad opens fire from the cover of the trees. Most of the 120mm shells don't get through the armour, but occaisionally one goes through a window.
As the Big Tray's guns begin to track you, you start moving. Super-Heavy Shells begin to devestate the jungle around you.

Zolomon is running and firing his Magella Cannon, even it's heavy shells isn't enough to properly pierce the battleships armour, but it's certainly leaving bigger dents. The recoil is knocking the suit off the ground, and if it weren't for the F-Type having space verniers, Zol would have fallen over long ago.
The first of the artillery shells from 3rd Company come down, the first shell get's lucky and hit's the corner of the rear turret. It's still functioning, but it looks like it can't rotate anymore.
The rest of the shells don't get quite so lucky, either missing or pinging of the battleships armour and imbedding themselves into the ground.

The Engineer trucks meanwhile are trying to beat a hasty retreat.

    Yep.

    >If we can, I say we signal to stop firing, and get in close and chop that shit like it's wood.

You keep firing until you run out of ammo in the drum, then you swap it with your heat hawk.

"Hold on! I'll pop the red flare!" calls Strauss, meanwhile Zolomon pulls out his Heat Hawk as well. As you charge forwards, keeping your Zaku's profile low to try and avoid getting hit.
You think you hear Zolomon asking Strauss for his heat hawk.

Just as your about to leap into the air, fire off your leg rockets and come down on the Big Tray's bridge.
You hear a cry from behind you.

    "Lister! Duck!"

You instinctively duck and over your head fly a pair of Heat Tomahawks spinning at ferocious speed. The first hit slices the barrels of the nearest turret clean off. The second slams into the back of it, causing it's internal magazine to detonate in large plume of fire.

You take this chance and hit your thrusters for everything you've got. At the apex of the jump you fire all of your rockets at once and use your thrusters to hurl yourself downwards towards where the bridge should be. You land well, and your axes slices clean through the bridge right to the base of the battleship. You manage to leap back with your axe as secondary explosions brew up in the craft.

From the safety of the trees, you see the Big Tray explode.

Speaking of that, let's try to get our bitch more customized if we're allowed. Specialized decorations and shit. SHOW OFF OUR FEROCIOUSNESS!

Don't be silly. It's got your kill markings on it. Your practically a celebrity in the Battalion, they aren't taking your zaku away from you.

    >Regardless, we'll need bitching spy gear. Pistols with suppressors. A briefcase with a machine gun in it in case shit gets hairy.

Sure, you'll also be getting that SMG you wanted. You'll have to wait and see what I've got stored for you.

Problem is, you don't have all that many parts available to you, since everything's coming at a premium. You'll be able to get fuel and maybe ammo from San Jose (assuming the President was on the level) but machine parts for Mobile Suits? Not likely.

Paint would be pretty easy to get though...

That's what I was talking about.

Let's get it painted like a skeleton.

A red skeleton, to triple its speed. With blue highlights to make it luckier.

If you can supply a photoshopped MS-06J lineart in the custom colour scheme you want, then we'll use it.

I'd recommend Mark Simmons lineart, but finding that stuff these days is next to impossible.

    Also, red and blue? Ugh.

I vote for keeping the Green Zaku colour but putting symbols and stuff on.

Like a White Zeon Symbol with the circular part stylised like a skull on the Zeon's helms.

    Zaku's helms, even.
