Growing up in this town was asking to be the envy of every "normal" child. Woods to explore, warm summers, a nice school teacher. Not to mention the countless number of adventurers and wanna be heroes visiting on a constant basis.

The reason for their visits were simple, not far from the small town was a massive tower that was begging to be plundered for its treasure and secrets. The tower has been there as long as your parents could remember, and according to them, as long as THEIR parents could remember. Not once has a group made a return trip from the tower. Such a grim tale has only made it a ritual for even more power seekers and evil cleansing paladins to stop into town.

Tonight is no different from any other night, you sit in the corner of the local tavern nursing an ale, and listening to tales being told by arrogant fools who have no idea this is their last night to drink before they go to die in that wretched tower.

A large female covered in weapons, chain mail... and not much else walks up to your table and gives you a snide look and speaks.

"I hear you're the towns Blacksmith?" She asks it as if she does not think it's true. You recently took over your fathers role after his death, he was an amazing smith, and you are even better.

<Put together a reaction. I promise not to railroad! And try to be nice I've always wanted to try writefagging and drawfagging for one of these.>

I take a swig from my ale and sit up straight, pushing the seat across the table out and gesturing at it. "Aye, that'd be me. What can I do for you?" I lean forward on my arm on the table, lowering my other arm to the hilt of my left-hand dagger, just in case.

<I'll also try to combine things that can make sense together>

At first you sub-due a smirk and say maybe. After she gives you a very serious scowl as if she "just does not have time for this", you calmly take a drink and motion for her to sit after pushing the chair across from you out.

"Aye, that'd be me. What can I do for you?"

She continues to stand, and is obviously a real bitch. She pulls out a very ornate looking sword and tosses it on the table. It looks like a useless noble's sword.

Worth a lot due to the gems and the silver and gold it's crafted from, but as is apparent by the fact that it is bent, knicked and cracked all to hell that it is useless in a fight.

    "I need this fixed".

I move my drink from the table just in time to avoid her spilling it all over me before looking the blade up and down and whistling in amazement. "To fix it as it was will take a day and fifteen gold. You want me to strengthen it, then that'll be a week and thirty crowns." I sip again from the mug. "So?"

(Just guessin' on prices and shit, I don't know dick.)
    >> Firstquest 10/11/09(Sun)01:53 No.6223172
She stares at you as if waiting for an answer, you pick up the sword, looking it over, you could easily fix this, but she'd likely try to use it in another fight and have it damaged all over again in one battle. And since you overheard her party talking she'd want you to do it -tonight-, after you've all-ready worked a whole day.

She rolls her eyes and then just stares at you when you say "Strengthen the blade"

"I don't have a week. So fine, just take it and fix it over the night. If you can have it working by tomorrow night I'll pay you twenty gold." She turns before you even get a chance to respond and saunters off. As if she didn't have ANY time to waste on someone like you, leaving you alone with your ale and her poor excuse for a weapon.

While finishing up your drink, you look over the blade, It's got runes etched around every gem on it. You could easily re-sell this thing after fixing it for ten times the amount.

The runes strike you as arcane, and perhaps <What passes for in this vague fantasy setting> as elfish. The blade isn't old however, and you can't read elf, so you don't know what they mean.

By all your best guesses it was given to a noble by an elf blacksmith as a decorative bit. The blade is silver, and one familiar rune in the center near the bottom looks very "holy", you've seen it on a lot of paladin and "goody goody" types blade's as you've fixed them.

You get up to head out the door to your workshop.

Now that you think of it a brash woman like her is likely keeping this blade to fight evil or undead creatures with it, and it's likely not her main weapon.

    >>6223323
I suppose we'd best get to fixin' it. Since it would apparently be very easy for us, an esteemed blacksmith, we should also do what we can to strengthen it, without compromising its "holiness".

You get to work on fixing the blade, heating it working it, doing all that badass stuff with the blade looking all firey and awesome. You make sure not to mess up any of the runes, and before long the sun is creeping up over the tree tops outside.

The blade looks a million times better, and through your awesome skill and magical means it's a little more battle ready then it was before. Your life has been mostly un-eventful, but if there is ONE thing you can brag about, it's your skills as a blacksmith.

You place the sword in one of the many heavy chests and turn to go grab a few hours of sleep at home.

As you leave however, something catches your eye. At first you think it's just from lack of sleep, and you rub your weary eyes.

It appears as if all of the town's children are walking out of town and into the woods in the direction of the fabled tower. Girls on the verge of womanhood, to boys who've just learned to walk are in their nightgowns or nothing at all, walking right out into the woods in their bare feet.

You run back inside, and take the sword out of the chest, you have a lot of other weapons around as well, made to sell, or for your own entertainment.

You've never learned any spells, but you're not an idiot, you've worked on a few magic items and as long as someone explains it chances are you can figure it out given enough time. Right now, you have mild fighting skills from just playing with the things you create, but you're not a hero by any means.

You try to shake one of the older ones, but he keeps on walking, pulling and tearing from your grip. Shouting and yelling for the town guard, or parents to wake up results in nothing at all. The town is dead quiet, even the children make no noise at all aside from grunts if they bump into you in passing or trip in their trance.

All the doors to all the houses they left are still open. It's a shock no one has awoke in all this commotion on this cool foggy morning.

Other children turn around and begin to walk in your direction, it takes nearly half the crowd, but they eventually pull you away and toss you to the side. For a moment they all stand there staring at you, as if awaiting some unseen order, before they turn and start to walk off once more. It seems you won't be able to stop any of them without resorting to force, or getting a helping hand.

You pause and pull out the silver blade, and touch the flat of the blade against the nearest kid's shoulder. He screams, and for a moment seems himself, scared, wounded and frightened. He snaps back into the trance almost as soon as it ended, and starts to walk once more.

One girl passes by, and appears to be what the town considers to be of legal age. And being a man, and not really of the highest morals, you grope her breast for a moment. It feels like all the breasts you've felt in life, and she gives no reaction. You sort of feel guilty about it, like someone is -watching you do it.- That sort of pushes the idea of bashing one of them in the head out of play as well. They are young adults and children, most would likely not survive a blow from a hammer.

You decide to find someone more suited for such a thing and run for the inn. Stepping inside it's silent. The rooms are in the back of the inn, you yell, but no one answers. You might have to go wake them.

(Sorry was having an internal debate for a moment on the next point. cont now.)

You move into the room and for a moment, hope it is the attractive warrior woman or first spoke to you last night laying in the bed. You think about touching her with the blade in places that she wouldn't agree to. This thoughts do not seem to be yours, as you are not a good guy, but not some sicko.

You are concerned for the townspeople you grew up with, and while you have no children of your own, you knew some of the young ones walking into the forest, and fear for them. You almost sprint to the bed and pull back the sheets. As luck would have it, it's the barely dressed warrior woman. You stare at her bare breasts. They are not moving. Her chest is not rising or falling. Her eyes are closed, but it appears she'd been crying, long black streaks from her eye make up... wait she wasn't wearing any make-up when you saw her last.

Thinking for a moment, the sudden fear that all of the adults could be in the same state. Their chests not rising or falling, laying cold in their beds. You being the only true adult alive simply because you have not fallen asleep yet.

Nothing happens. She's quite dead. You cover her once more with the sheet and move to the next room, having to beat the door down as well. The young wizard with that visiting party was staying here, apparent by the staff and books laying about.

His body sits at the desk, where it looks like he had fallen asleep, black liquid seeps from under his closed eyes as well. It drips onto the book his head rests on and soaks into the pages.

Neighbors, family, your mother, oh damn the gods your mother... all dead. And the only parts of them left their children are marching off to that damned tower. You move to your shed, heart racing, and look for things to take, you pick up your travel back pack with it's sleeping roll on top, and fill it with what food stuffs you have as a given.

As far as the shop goes, there is a great axe you were always fond of, a few light healing potions you usually use for your hands when you work too many days in a row and end up turning them into broken mess.

You move to check on the horses, checking quickly to see the children almost out of eyesight, lost in the fog. You curse as you open the barn door to the horse stable, the horses have been torn apart by something. The walls are painted in blood and the entrails are hung around as if decorations.

Two thoughts suddenly pound into your head like a plate fist. One hisses that your should go say thank you to that warrior woman's corpse in the most vile way. The other yells that you need to catch up to the children. You clear your head and turn in a rush to catch up to the children and run right into something, you crash onto your back on the ground.

You felt fur before you were knocked down, and your face is now wet with blood. You look up to see a creature nearly twice your size, "smiling" down at you, with a set of nasty sharp teeth dyed red with horse blood. You've never seen one, but always heard stories.

It's a werewolf. And if that is not bad enough there is another one circling around behind it, staring at you as well.

It talks "Look brother. The master said we get to eat the horses and any of the humans who don't get killed by his spell. It's only one, but it's something."

The werewolf lumbers over you, and for a moment you're too scared to think, but it passes quickly. You see it's yellow eyes and it's morbid grin. It wants to enjoy taking you apart, just as it enjoyed silently tearing apart the horses before they could even alert you.

You were never a praying man, but it seems the gods have at least given you the tools to survive this, as you remember the silver blade hanging from your hip, you pull it free and lunge with it quickly at his neck, as you pull free your mace with the other hand.

Your hairy foe is much faster then you, and you're not a seasoned fighter, this is the first time you've really tried to kill a creature that wasn't food. It's neck is lightly slashed by the tip of the silver blade as it dodges backwards and lands on it's own ass. You stand up, backing away slowly. It's brother laughs as it wines and puts a big clawed hand over the wound.

"oooh look! It must be one of the adventurers who didn't sleep last night!"

You back slowly into the barn, wincing as you feel horse guts squishing under your feet. The un-wounded brother wolf suddenly lets out a ear shattering howl of excitement and leaps over his whining brother, diving at you with his claws forward and mouth open.

You swing your hammer, and visualize striking a blade on an anvil, but there is no blade. And the anvil is the werewolf's head.

You always took for granted how -hard- you could strike with this hammer, and it takes the wet crack of the wolf's skull and jaw and the fact that he crashes to the ground in front of you, sliding on the blood wet floor and taking out your legs so the two of you slam into the far wall to make you really realize just how good you are with Shitbreaker.

You can here the were wolf's head and bone stiching back together as you sit in the middle of it's back slightly dazed youself, claw marks on your upper legs. You only have a moment before he's turned you into lunch, and you can see the outline of the first wolf-man in the doorway.

You take a split moment to think, then raise the sword above your head, it feels much more odd then using the hammer, but you could grow used to it. You bring it down hard on the beast's chest and feel the blade sink deep. The monster howls and writes as both blood and black steam pour from the terrible wound. It seems it was burning him as much as it was stabbing him. A claw tears across your hammer arm and then another thrash sends you toppling to the floor.

The sword is still in the beast's chest, but it is now done moving. You get up, limping you start to rush back to the body to get the silver sword, wanting to cut off it's head to make sure it stays dead, but you are tackled to the ground by the first Wolf.

You can feel it's mouth around the back of your neck and it's hot breath savoring the meal to come. About to snap your neck in two like nothing. It's hot blood pouring on your back.

You notice light pouring through the cracks in the barn. And that the body of the creature you just killed is turning into a naked man.

You heave backwards, and to your amazement toss a rather light weight off your shoulders. You stand as quick as your wounded body will let you and look down, as you snatch your sword from the dead were wolf.

As you turn around you stop however. The were wolf is gone. Replaced instead by a naked woman with a light scar on her throat that seems to have fresh blood around it. She is out cold, and looks as if she was bathed and if her wild black hair was tamed she would be absolutely beautiful. It's apparent she is quite alive.
