    >To recap: you gained access to the source of consciousnesses. You have begun creating servants: glass golems, Librarians (humanoids of white flame, wearing golden armor) and daygaunts (pic related). The possibility of phoenixes or other flying mounts is still discussed.

You have the demons safely contained for now and you are preparing an army to deal with them more permanently. On the material plane, you chased the aboleths from the archipelago. The six islands you control are well-fortified and first paladins have already completed their training. The other seven islands are converting to your faith. The airship project is well underway. All of the ships at your disposal have been inscribed with protective runes.

    Do this:
    >I'd say go for an expeditionary force, just to test their strength and get a look at what's going on below the surface. Monitored closely, so we can reinforce or withdraw them with all due speed if things go tits-up.

    From the last thread.

    Unit statistics:

Melee attack bonus - the offensive capabilities in melee combat.
Ranged attack bonus - the effectiveness of ranged attacks.

Defense - the defensive capabilities, against both melee and ranged attacks.

Fortitude saving throw bonus - the resistance to effects that affect vitality and health, such as exhaustion, poison, disease or paralysis.
Reflex saving throw bonus - the ability to avoid area attacks, such as a rain of fire.
Will saving throw bonus - the resistance to direct magical effects, mental influence and morale effects such as illusions, mind control, the enemy's frightening appearance or attempts to demoralize.

Movement modes and speed - as well as travelling on land, it might include capabilities such as swimming, flight or burrowing. For most units the speed listed is equivalent to a march. They can be ordered to travel up to twice as fast, but extended periods of fast movement will tire them out and impose penalties on most actions. For units immune to fatigue, such as golems, the greatest possible speed is listed instead.

Initiative modifier - added to a 1d20 roll which determines the order of taking actions.

Current unit size - the amount of soldiers in the unit.
Base amount - the minimum size of the unit required for it to operate effectively.

Melee attack improvement - a bonus applied to melee attacks for every base amount of soldiers in the unit beyond the first.
Ranged attack improvement - a bonus applied to ranged attacks for every base amount of soldiers in the unit beyond the first.
Defense improvement - a bonus applied to defense for every base amount of soldiers in the unit beyond the first.

Note: some conditions cause soldiers to perform at half efficiency. Simply count affected soldiers as half each.

Anon who has been in since the beginning who is now namefagging too.

Just have to say that when we made Hyperion about Knowledge it was one of the best decisions we could have.

Since we have cleared the aboleths from the shallower areas, lets start some underwater cities of our own.

    Mechanics:

    Attacking:
The attacking unit rolls 1d20 + relevant attack bonuses and compares the result to the defending unit's Defense score. If the roll is below that number, the attack fails. Otherwise, the defending unit loses 5% of its current size plus another 5% for every point the roll exceeded its Defense score (minimum 1 soldier).

    Effects and saving throws:
When a unit is the target of an effect that requires a saving throw, it rolls 1d20 + appropriate saving throw modifier. If the roll is at least equal to the Difficulty Class (DC, stated in the effect's description), the effect is fully resisted or avoided. Otherwise, 5% of the unit is affected for every point the roll missed the DC by (minimum 1 soldier).

    Time and Actions:

Time is divided into turns, which last a minute each. Units act according to their Initiative (1d20 + modifier), starting with the one with the highest Initiative. In case of ties between hostile units, the unit with the higher modifier goes first. If the modifiers are equal, determine randomly.

Each unit can take two actions per turn. Typical actions are:
    Moving up to its speed.
    Attacking another unit.
    Using a special ability.
Casting a spell - units of spellcasters typically channel power to the most powerful member of the group, as it is more effective than each of them casting alone. Therefore, a unit of spellcasters typically casts a single spell per action.
Running - this allows a unit to move twice its speed, but at the end of the movement it needs to make a DC 10 Fortitude check or be fatigued. Every action spent on running increases the DC of future checks by 1 and every action not spent on running decreases it by 1 (to a minimum of 10).

    Common conditions:

Berserk - berserk soldiers defend at half efficiency. Once enough soldiers are berserk to form a separate unit, they leave their current unit and form their own. This unit cannot be given orders and will try to attack the nearest opponent in melee.
Blinded - blinded soldiers, or ones otherwise unable to see their opponents, cannot make ranged attacks. They attack in melee and defend themselves at half efficiency. Blinded soldiers cannot run. If their unit runs, they are left behind.
Demoralized - demoralized soldiers attack and defend at half efficiency.
Exhausted - exhausted soldiers cannot attack and defend themselves at half efficiency. They cannot run. If their unit runs, they are left behind.
Immobilized - immobilized soldiers attack in melee and defend at half efficiency. If their unit moves, they are left behind.
Nauseated - nauseated soldiers cannot attack and defend at half efficiency. They can only participate in a single action per round.
Panicked - panicked soldiers attempt to flee, leaving their unit. If no escape is possible, they remain in battle. Panicked creatures also become demoralized.
Paralyzed - paralyzed soldiers are effectively taken out of the fight. Unit size is reduced until the condition is cured.
Stunned - stunned soldiers can only participate in a single action per round.
Unconscious - unconscious soldiers are effectively taken out of the fight. Unit size is reduced until the condition is cured.
Wounded - fallen soldiers affected by healing magic are wounded until healed again. Wounded soldiers attack at half efficiency.

When a unit is taking losses, the soldiers with debilitating conditions fall first.

    Magic:

Spells are divided into two categories: prepared spells and channelled spells. Spellcasting units possess the following traits:
Prepared spell capacity - determines how many spells the caster in the unit can prepare.
Channelling speed - determines how fast magic is channeled by the caster.
Some units can only cast prepared spells. The time required for preparing spells varies, depending on the unit.

When casting a channeled spell, only one caster in the group actually casts, while the others simply channel magic for him.

The following conditions prevent both casting spells and channelling magic: Berserk, Exhausted, Panicked, Paralyzed, Unconscious.

The following conditions prevent casting spells, but not channelling magic: Blinded, Nauseated.

Actual spells and their costs still need to be worked out.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
The pale pair sat idly hugging each-other at the endless void of soulstuff, the Lake of Souls, absentmindedly watching with identical gray eyes the tiny specks of blue flame, consciousness itself, drip into the white pool to be reborn, or burst out of it after death.

How amused they were of the little ones down on the Material Realm, how they enjoyed watching them toil, suffer, laugh, eat and die again and again, all the while learning their curious ways and teaching them in turn, as their Father ordained.

But alas, their entertainment could not last for long, as a pair of gaunt, snow-white figures with large leathery wings approached them, carrying a huge golden chest.

The pair of creatures bowed respectfully to the Siblings and opened the chest, a pillar of golden light striking towards the heavens from it, then without a word departed.

After a few seconds the Twins gathered themselves and approached the chest.
It was full of bits and pieces of armor, golden armor, engraved with a thousands images, every bit, every part of art a whole life of a little one from the Material Realm. One of the Siblings lifted a breastplate out of the chest.

-Pretty... -the deity noted after a few moments, admiring the craftmanship, and the sparkle of the metal.

The other one hugged its mate from behind, and with one hand moved the armor, now reflecting its twin's face.

    -Yes... pretty...

    The first one smiled coyly.

-We should start working, Father will be displeased if tally long... again, with our work.

The other Sibling pouted but stepped back.

-Ah, very well... -and with a flick of a wrist the pieces and shards of armor burst from the chest and connected to each other, creating a golden wall of soon-to-be knights, ready to serve the will of the Protector- lets get to work, shall we?

-Ajax! Mother said we shouldn't play at the beach! -yelled the little girl to her brother, running and climbing up and down the jagged rocks and boulders that litter the sandy coast not far from their Village- I'm going to tell on you!

-Oh come on Penelope, its not like anyway will find out, come, I found some pretty seashells for you~

Needless to say, the girl gave in, and the pair had a long and fun filled day, playing in the sand, sometimes having quick dips in the warm water then just laying about basking in the sun. Needless to say they fell asleep, and when they came to their senses the sun was already setting, painting the coast with an orange hue. They quickly ran for their clothes which they left drying on a rock near the edge of water.

-Mother is going to be soooo angry Ajax... -the girl fumed worriedly.

-Quiet down already, I'll figur- And that was as far as he got as a long and thick tentacle curled around his body and lifted him up into the air.

The girl screamed a heart piercing cry when she turned around and saw her brother captured in a writhing mass of tentacles that originated from the huge fish-like horror that crawled halfway out of the sea.

The boy was covered in a vicious mucus, his vision was blurry, a strange voice sang into his very mind promising that all shall be well, with a soft tone of veiled hunger and lust.

Then a huge, furry creature burst out of the water and landed right on top of the aboleth and with claw and fang tore the tentacles into bloody bits and freed the boy. The fiend screamed in a voice no sane creature could reproduce and retreated from the beast that looked like a great overgrown otter.

Momentarily forgetting about its opponent the otter placed the boy gently down on the sand, and with a few licks cleaned the mucus off him. After admiring its handy-work it nodded then turned around and jumped into the water.
The girl ran up to her awakening brother and hugged him tightly as a thundering voice echoed from the sea.

Augusta ran through through trees, zig-zagging as best she could. She'd been running for over an hour and she still knew he was following close behind. Tired, fatigued, and on the verge of just giving up, but she still kept running.

Soon however, her hopes were dashed when she burst from the tree line, and came upon a small cove. A dead end that led to water. Maybe that was her answer, the water she contemplated.

Her thoughts were then interrupted by the sound of breaking brush as her pursuer crashed through the grove behind her. Her burst out behind her, a large man carrying a spear. "Come here girl. Just stop running and this will all be over."

She backed up against the shoreline as Marcus slowly stalked towards her, weapon in hand. But then, a thunderous crash came behind her, she saw Marcus's face grow shocked as a shadow covered them both in darkness, soon follow by a spray of water. Augusta turned around to see a gigantic beast behind her, towering higher than the canopies of the nearby trees. Blood red, wet fur shook as his body rumbled, clawed arms dangled perilously above her head. His face, like a wolf, teeth larger than her body growled. It opened it's mouth slowly then with a roar, breathed out white flames on Marcus. Augusta heard him scream loudly. But when the flames parted he just stood there perfectly fine, albeit now naked, weaponless, and without any genitals, but fine. He screamed and ran away into the trees for deer life.

Behind her the beast was now nothing more than a small otter, it smiled at Augusta, gave her an old, dead clam, and disappeared.

Of course, expanding the island slowly and steadily would be good, rather than just dumping a mountain's worth of stone into the sea. It'd cause ripples.

Boil a mountain's worth of sea water and you're going to end up with a big patch of ocean that's been rendered sterile because you've boiled the life out of it. That's not great.

Then think about where all that evaporated water's going to go. Evaporating it doesn't destroy it, it just moves it into the atmosphere - and eventually it'll come down again.

    ------------------------------------------------------
Somewhere in the Eternal Library, the workshop of the Craftsman, the Firstborn is nestled, and there does Hagran, also known as Hephaestus live with his divine consort Shyla.

The giant man was usually tending to the many forges, anvils, to rivers of molten steel crafting the treasures his Father asked for, but today was a bit special.
Earlier he sent a Daygaunt to fetch his wife from her gardens and now he was finishing the preparations. In-front of him a single decorated anvil and a small stream of molten metal upon it, and his trusty hammer that has created almost all of the exalted treasures Father requested.

Somewhere a door opened and closed loudly, and a dazzling figure approached him. Shlya as always wore her green robes made out of living plants, her slender arms entwined in ivy and grape, and her golden wheat hair cascading down her shoulders. She waved her hand infront of herself and coughed a bit as she was still unaccustomed to the smoke and grime of the Smith's foundry.

-You summoned me dear husband? -she inquired, her voice ringing like a small creek in the woods.

Hagran nodded and motioned her to come closer, while lifting the heavy hammer from beside the anvil.

-Come, come woman, I shall ask thee, what craft lies in your tender arms? Come, aid me, let ye use my metal hammer as well ye can.

    The woman looked confused.

-But husband... I... I was not created for this, I grow things, not make and sculpt them...

-Be that as it is, but still, we were born by Father's blessing and serve him loyally till forever, but we be our own beings as well. Come now, do not be afraid.

The woman, while still unsure how this will go, stepped up to the Craftsman.

-Here lass, hold mine hammer, its been a tool of many works, many wonders, let it guide you, ye needs only to imagine what lies in ye soul, the hammer will aid you.

Shyla took the heavy hammer from the Smith, her petite hands lifting it as easily as her husband's large fists. Hagran stepped behind the woman and placed a hand on her hip to steady her, and another guided her hand.

The Gardener awkwardly raised the hammer towards the sky, and after a moment of hesitation brought it down with crushing might upon the molten metal. Sparks flew in every direction and the metal twisted and churned upon the anvil. The woman's hand shook.

-Husband... I, I can't do this, I am not made for-

-Again, tis was a fine strike, ye needs only concentrate more.

The woman raised the hammer once more, and struck the anvil again. The metal churned and twisted even more chaotically.

-Imagine what lays in your heart Shyla, what is that you wish to make, what be true to you! Give it yer heart and soul!

And she lifted the hammer a third time, and brought it down with shattering force. And then it happened. The molten metal churned, twisted and bubbled, then suddenly it swirled up into the air, thickening and spiraling madly, then where it met the anvil, small rivulets flew down and wrapped around its heavy frame. Then finally, the top of the strange tube burst into a hundred different strands, a hundred different branches, and from those branches leaves of emerald, and fruits of gold grew, and the metal solidified into pure bronze.

The Smith stepped back and inspected the living tree of bronze, then after a nod hugged the tired but happy woman to his side.

-Ye see Shyla? Yer magic crafted something even I could not, a true child...
