    Continuation from Earlier thread tonight.

You are laid up for a couple of days and finally all the Healers who have been picking at you have buggered off. You've managed to feel your arm into the room and once it is in sight it seems to move about with utter ease. The steel plates on it are badly damaged and burnt in places, the hole in the middle shaped like the rune is charred around the edges. The pinky is fused to the finger next to it.

Your gear is scattered around the room, and the Axe is sitting at the foot of the bed, as if the Dwarfs knew you wouldn't want it far from your person.

Shall you rest till you are healed? Push yourself? Take this time to plan or study?

If its possible to repair the damage to the hand while recuperating we should do that.

Theres being unstoppably awesome, and then theres being suicidal.

You'll likely need to be up and about to fix your arm, it is pretty badly damaged, and would need a lot of fixing that you can't really do in a bed.

Just gonna reiterate what I said in the other thread regarding adding a drill to the dragon steel gauntlet when we get around to it:

A drill IS pretty functionable. It doubles as a weapon, AND it can help us mine for materials, or dig our way out of someplace.

This, and how long to fix the arm.
    >> Anonymous 10/20/09(Tue)23:54 No.6362381
I guess we could do a day or so of reading up on dragons and asking around about the area where the spawn are. Might let us recuperate just enough and still be going forward.

It will take only a day or two to fix your current arm. It will take a few days if you want to use your dragon-steel to make a whole new arm. You have a month and a half left until the competition is over.

It's not too long till your little Dwarf Assistant girl is showing up once more. She looks like she really wants to hold the axe, but does not touch it. Seems she has the same eye for weapons as her father.

You tell her about the fire rune you also want to attach and she eats up every word. She starts ranting off locations of Ice trolls and great saber cats. When you tell her you want to kill a young Black-dragon to both bless the fire rune, -and- add more lore to the weapon, along with getting the resources you need to add the leather from the flesh beneath the scales for the grip, and perhaps a tooth and such she freezes up.

She nods after a moment and says that would likely insure the blade in legend, but finding a Broodling without getting the mother's attention would be hard.

I maintain my opinion that knuckle-drills are useless because they wouldn't even function AS A DRILL. A drill has to be able to dig a hole larger or the same size as the thing it needs to make a hole for. And besides that we lack any means save magic to power it sufficiently to do that!
    >>6362381

As an additional thought, could we buy more darksteel to help make blacksmith tools? As in all those little tools, not just the hammer. I don't know that we'll have the time to make them until afterwards, but it might be a good idea.
Unless we want to make tools from blackdragon-spawn scales or something.

Oh, I should've specified that part. I don't mean tiny drills sticking out of the knuckles or retractable. I mean a portion on the knuckles that can be opened and a drill can be mounted on it. Sorta like how you can change what size drill you mount on an electric one.
    >> Firstquest 10/21/09(Wed)00:04 No.6362493
    >>6362372
Adding tiny drills or a drill mechanism to the arm is science you don't even think the dwarfs would know. Your arm moves and runs due to magic that has been twisted and granted by a complex series of events.

Doing more then putting a rune or two on your fist, or perhaps adding some sort of hidden compartment to it is likely too complex a thing to work correctly.

So, compartments, and possibly some generic mounting brackets/rivets/etc for the gauntlet
If we have a month and a half, it might be worth it to go ahead and dragonsteel our gauntlets after a day, maybe 2, of healing/learning.
Unless we can partially finish a Strength rune (so that we can finish it nicely if a suitable situation comes up unplanned for), best to leave it unRuned for now.
If we find out Black dragons have all sorts of poisons/acids, then things to neutralize/resist/delay would be nice.
Having the mother chase us back to the king could be just the thing he wants, really. Depends on if the rest of them follow or not. I get the impression the spawn are willing to kill each other, so I'm less certain that more than the mother will come after us.

You look through maps and are starting to get a good lay of the land of these mountains. Looking down at the axe at the end of the bed, you smirk, It really will be your finest work.

You guide your hand to scurrying about, letting it do as it pleases. You think you are getting the hang of guiding it without looking at it. You still cannot -see- through it, or feel too much. But it almost feels as if you communicate what you want it to do in general it does it, as you used to have to command it to do each little thing.

You sketch up many ideas, how you will fight the dragon, thoughts of re-forging your gauntlet arm from dragon steel and what it would be like to have a rune on the steel, wondering if the gauntlet would work with a rune when your ghostly appendage inside still considers its self holding a rune.

You think if you make the arm out of Dragonsteel you won't have enough to create a crossbow to fit on or hidden inside the arm, but you could make one out of Black-Steel, it would be hell to crank back the bow strings, and even then you'd have to find something to make the string out of that wouldn't snap, but still pull flexible.

You think you could do it. Whatever you fired from it would be deadly, but hard to reload swiftly.

Two days of study and healing pass, much time is spent with the Princess hovering over you as you scheme and plan. She thinks there is info about steel-strings in the books in the library if you gain entry you could make a nasty all-steel crossbow that with the right ammo could pierce armor.

You feel all right, until they remove the bandages and you see the malformation and scarring of your "stump". It was once at least strangely smooth where a spell has burned and melted the flesh almost perfectly and then a potion was applied. This looks nasty. Good thing it will be covered with your new gauntlet.

She has a plan, and wishes to go with you and a personal guard to assist in slaying the young dragon.
Do you wish to fix your gauntlet, go with it damaged, or make a whole new one before you go? Will you let her come with? Or try to make your own plan?

We could always just wear a chain for a belt, and then hook it to our gauntlet for chain-arm shenanigans.
I do rather like the idea of the crossbow mount. Make it a generic mount of types on our gauntlet, we can build the crossbow after we figure out what else we still have to do to get the dragon spawn.

Drills: No, I don't think so the purpose of a drill is to convert rotation into forward motion, with the speed at which the bolt would fly a drill would not rotate fast enough to provide any real benefit, and would likely hurt the ability of our bolt to pierce things, however I have no problem with making the bolt rotate, this will make the arrow travel farther and more accurately.
    Dragonteeth: Yes, no aguements against.
Gunpowder: Again, No, impractical and likely more dangerous to us than our enemies.
Bionic Commando Chains: First Wut?. Second, I dont want our arm tied down to us, it's independence of our body is a boon not a curse.

The suggestion of a big, heavy crossbow wasn't for use after the Dragon was slain, but to slay the Dragon.

We've recently found it difficult just to deal with a pair of adult dragons who were being, mostly, hospitable. Then a single blind Elf almost killed us. In straight combat, what are the honest chances of killing a dragon, even a baby one, with just a hammer?
    >> Firstquest 10/21/09(Wed)00:43 No.6362999
It's time to make decisions you think. Going it alone will be the roughest of the rough, dealing with dragons and luckily slaying an old arrogant Lich who was next expecting it is one thing. But going alone to tackle a black dragon is asking to become something's lunch.

She says even if you won't let her come you must take the group of Dwarf Dragon-hunters with you. She says they can be trusted, and likely would die before they let the axe or you be destroyed.

Shall she come? Shall you go alone? Are you making your arm or anything first? Thats the decisions. Anything else being dwelled upon is.. "Muckin about".

Right, I never thought it had to be black steel/dragon badass to begin with. A bundle of black steel bolts with some serious hooks in them and a solid, steel arbalest to drive them home. It seems the most reliable way to kill the dragon without getting killed ourselves.

And I think we need to do this solo - the weapon's lore will suffer if it was a systematic execution of the sucker.

On a practical note, it extends our reach in a very real sense. Grappling hand and such, always useful. Definitely should be something we can hook to our gauntlet or leave it without though.
This bit where others are perfectly willing to do the incredible is strange and perhaps both nice and unpleasant. Don't exactly want her to die for us, but she does seem capable. What's her plan, at the very least?
Mucking about: Something to deal with after the dragonspawn is dealt with, but that proposed Strength rune should reasonably be able to stack with our Protection rune, should they both count as our arm/self. Strength and endurance are incredibly useful things for defense. Perhaps our stunt could involve defending things. Again, just something to consider later on though.

You assure them if anyone will die it will be you. One of them tosses you a much larger, heavier crossbow. It seems it only has one thick stake sized bolt in it. The end of the bolt has a hook on it that closes shut. A few of the burly dwarfs are carrying large wooden spools on their shoulders covered in heavy iron chains.

As you walk they explain how they do this. They have a few fireworks and powder bombs to scare the smallest and largest amount of dragons off the Cow corpse, and then drag their food away.

The large more bold dragons are shot with the cross bows stakes with chains tied on. They then kill the dragons and run. Hopefully the mother won't awake and murder you all.

The fireworks go off without a hitch, and then the smaller dragons fly off. Dwarfs begin pulling in the rope and everyone gets ready with the crossbows.

Three dragons remain. And after everyone fires except for yourself, two of them are pinned to the ground by chains and spikes. The third is swooping above, he lands on a dwarf and looks like he will bring his jaws down on his head in a moment.

You leap over chains and cross the distance enough to get a clear shot, the beast has it's mouth open and sprays a nasty hissing wad of green at the dwarf. He manages to move his head however, and it burns the ground, eating away at the stone.

You fire and the dragon is knocked off of him, the spike through its jaws. The other dwarfs seem to be taking care of the other dragons with ease. It seems the flaw in their plan is when more dragons come out then they have bows to pin them.

The dragon is not dead, but flailing about you're not the perfect shot, it went through its snout and pinned it to a nearby boulder. The downed dwarf is alive, but is too shell shocked to act. He's cut from the claws.

The flailing tail smashes into your chest and knocks you to the ground. It will be free in moments.

You stand and pull out the new and improved Shit-Basher, and smash the hammer into the stake, forcing it in deep enough to keep it there. It continues to thrash even as you beat the hammer into it.

Someone yells that it's head needs to be removed. It's spitting acid out of it's mouth now, blindly just landing on the stone and the ground, you have to move your legs quickly, you hold one wing that tries to flap into your face. It tries to find purchase with its claws.

You hear yells that they will be there to assist you soon. You hope one of the Dwarfs with one of the great swords you saw come running soon as you feel claws dig into your legs.

A Bloodlust seems to overtake you. Perhaps it is the fact that you just forged a rune of fire and now are in the trial of blessing that rune. Either way you feel more rage than you ever have before, and your steel hand begins to dig into the beasts scales, literally prying a couple of them off. It howls in pain and in turn digs its own weapons in deeper.

You care not for simple things like pain. And bring the hammer down over and over. This time square on its head. You feel its eye crush and break, its skull begin to crack and before long you and the rock are soaked in reddish black dragon blood. Breathing hard.

The claws twitch one last time and then let go of your legs.

You turn to look at the other two Dragons and find only two Dwarfs staring up at you grinning.

The others all seem fine and you reach down to help up the Dwarf you saved. Lots of "We're getting you a pint lad" And "You should come with us next time" Gets passed about.

A lantern and oil is handed to you and you set upon lighting the Dragon on fire as they set up transporting the other two corpses. You Take the axe up and hold the rune on the handle over the smoke.

Time passes, and it seems like nothing is happening, but as the sickening smell fills the air, the smoke seems to wrap and dance around the whole axe. More and more of the body seems to be turning into ash at a rapid rate, and the smoke stops rising to the air and instead looks as if it is being sucked into the rune.

As the smoke gathers into the axe, the axe head begins to glow as if it was on the forge, and then suddenly it bursts into flames. They grow and grow, but seem to be magical enough to avoid your hands.

Finally the corpse is ash and the smoke is gone. Slowly the axe calms down and the fire goes away, but the rune continues to glow. Seems the axe is nearly complete.

You hear a long angry roar and the dwarfs all jump.

    "Run lad. RUN".

Never need sharpening, act as knives, grippers for scaling things or holding on, can be used to slash the shit out of someone in close combat, and retractable so that we don't cut the fuck out of everything we move our hand near. Plenty of space inside our hollow gauntlet to retract into, why the hell not?

It takes a couple of days because you want this to be your finest work. You etch a dragon breathing fire on one side of the axe and another breathing a Lightning bolt on the other side. It takes some time because you have to learn to use Black Dragon acid to get it just right. You cover the etches with gold plating.

You have a leather worker use some of the Black Dragon flesh to craft the handle and you wrap it around it. It is both ornate and savage, and as you hold it and pride fills your chest you can feel the power rising through it. Strong emotions seem to trigger the runes and lightning arches across the edge as flames dance around them.

If this king went to war the number of men he would murder would be countless. Looking at this tool for ruin makes you wonder if you are a killer or an artist.

For the added touch you press a gold enveloped dragon tooth to the bottom of the grip, making sure to make it sharp and deadly, so just in case it could be used to dive through someone.

A day or two of rest, and it is time to create your new arm. Two more days of working Dragon-Steel Alloy into molds, and hammering, working the molten metals and shaping later and your arm is done.

The arm looks much more sleek and deadly then the first, and you made sure to leave slots and spaces, hooks and latches on the inside of the plates to let you add things later.

You free your skeleton hand from the confines of the old arm and watch as it crawls like a sea creature into its new home. A few minutes later and it feels like a brand new limb.

The brace goes farther up your arm to seem like a whole arm and shoulder guard to keep your bicep hidden and let you have more control over the arm.

Hmp. Now all we got to do is give the king the axe. Have him kill the dragon (hopefully we will be there at the time) get her wing. cover that bitch in metal and give it to the gold dragon.

Have a royal scribe pen this shit in gold or something suitable and present it with the axe.

Melt down the old gauntlet and make a neat little trinket to wear around our neck.
