BY POPULAR DEMAND, IT IS 7:00PM, DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR ZAKU IS?

OR HOW MANY HOLES ARE IN IT?

I MEAN JESUS THIS IS GOING TO TAKE AGES TO FIX!

    Ahem.

    Previous threads all here:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=zeonquest

We have just successfully distracted the Federation forces long enough for the primary attack on America by the 2nd and 3rd Divisions under command of Captain Garma Zabi.

We are currently in the now ruined town of La Treinticinco, your Zaku is lying in a pile of rubble.

You are DAVID LISTER an MS pilot for what's left of MASTODON BATTALION.
Which is commanded by Captain Dirk Fontaine from the Gallop Land Cruiser MSV called the Prancer.

The Prancer WAS fitted with an experimental Minovsky emitter known as the Loki, right up until it went up in a giant thermonuclear fireball at the climax of Part 5.

Now that the orbital drops have commenced and the primary Federal forces (who were about to crush you like a bug) are retreating back to try and rescue California and New York, your orders are as follows.

Travel back up north through Mexico and into the USA.
    Rendevouz with allied forces.

The rest of the Battalion is still all around the town, and all parts of the unit are in need of repair and reloading.

You open up the hatch and cautiously look around. You don't see any hostiles. You have the Zaku stand up and right itself, and then put it in park and shut down.
It's probably going to be a while before you have to move it into the Prancer for repairs.

There is a billowing cloud of dust and the roar of fanjets as the Prancer extricates itself from the buildings it had collided with. After moving away from the debris and settling on a space of open clearing, it shuts the fans down, and then hits the wide area floodlights.
You sigh, reactivate the Zaku and walk over to the lit area.
You then park up again and disembark.

You meet up with Zolomon and Strauss.

Zolomon has apparently obtained a six-pack of beer from somewhere.

"What? What else are you supposed to use that minifridge in there for?"

You were unaware that there was a fridge in your cockpit. This is irritating.

In any case, you all sit on the grass, with a drink talking to each other. Watching the rest of the Battalion trickle in, or be dragged back by the Zaku Tanks, who are now on salvage duty.

At some point a deck of cards are produced.

Comments are also made on some of Wolfgangs campaigns medals, as well as speculation on whether or not this little excursion to middle america will get one.

(IF SOMEONE CAN TRANSLATE THESE IT WOULD BE GREAT.)

Bottom left medal appears to be an invasion veteran medal, the one with the hand holding a colony looks to be a medal for Operation British, and i'd say the one with the crossed knife and grenade is for a Panzergrenadier, or Tank battalion infantry medal.

Really went for the Wehrmacht decor.

After teaching the other two how to play Gin-Rummy as a side to playing poker variants all the time, the three of you see a Zaku tank drag pack a Zaku wreck. Behind it is a Magella bottom that has survived the carnage.

You spend the next two hours helping them to convert the two into a new Zaku Tank.
By this time more of your support trucks and infantry have returned, and several tent, huts and a triage are set up.
It looks like you'll be sleeping here for the night.
It's not thought that were going to get problems with raiders or angry refugees due to the close proximity of the site to ground zero for a massive nuclear detonation.

The fact that there's zero radiation about due to superheavy minovsky densities isn't something your average refugee is going to remember.

You take the time to clean yourself up with some bottled water, and find yourself a bidet for the night. You set the alarm for 8:00 am as ordered.

The next morning, you wake up with a good six hours sleep. Most of the severely wounded have been moved to inside the Prancer and the tents are packing up.

You have one full company plus and extra squad of combat capable Mobile suits, supported by four Zaku Tanks for engineering works.

The Dopp squadrons has been reduced to 3 planes, and has been permanently taken off the patrol roster.

A third of the Mechanized Infantry survived, they are currently assisting your mobile suit forces.

You have 5 AA Tanks remaining.

Your plan is to move south to Escobar, and then from there across country back into Costa Rica, where we'll see about dropping off our seriously wounded maybe getting some basic supplies.

Two squads on reserve, two squads on patrol, assisted by Mechanised Infantry and with all three Lugguns acting as AWAC's.

By 10:00am you are on the move, at a cautious pace.

You reach Escobar fairly quickly, you skirt around the shanty town, simply on the grounds of not risking damage to the Prancers hovercraft systems. Also, there's no need to needlessly terrify some refugees with your colour scheme.

An hour later you reach the border of Costa Rica with no problems, not even a probing Fly Manta raid.

You make for San Jose. You should make it by one, at which point you're squad should be going on reserve, and you can take a more leisurely look around the city should you want to.

Strauss politely refuses your offer of a quick trip to a nearby bar, he has a small shopping list of things he want's to buy before leaving the city. He goes with a couple of soldiers who are also going to the shopping district.
(You are advised not to travel alone, even though Costa Rica is technically neutral, you WERE flopping giant space dildos onto the earth a couple of months ago, people remember that kind of shit.)

You sit down in the corner table alcove with the other men, who warmly welcome you.

The man in the sling introduces himself as Hans Blitzen, one of the three remaining Dopp pilots left in the Battalion.
The other man does indeed turn out to be another MS pilot called Konson Dogatie. It transpires that he was one of the pilots who helped you take down that immobolised big tray a couple of days ago.

The five of you get to talking.

You profess your worries about federation spies, Karl Mauser has a somewhat unorthodox view.

"Well? So what if there are, as of now, THEY know more about what's going on tactically than WE do! What are they going to do? Ask us where the 2nd division is going next? We were literally never told what 2nd and 3rd would be doing beyond "Landing on the East and West coast" which I *think*, I *think* they *may* have worked out by now. Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it. We are so not a threat to anyone right now it's not even funny."

"Firstly, here are our options. We COULD just walk away, hijack a car and escape, but that would still leave this truck, with that bomb. And even if we lock it, sooner or later SOMEBODY, probably some kid, is going to break in and try to take it for a joyride. Now I know it's perhaps a little late in the day for us to start worrying about this, but nevertheless, I DO worry about that."

"Secondly, we could call for a demolitions specialist who we may or may not still have back at the prancer, that will require us to split up and find a land-line or radio. And it would also call more people into the area."

"...then there's the option I'm going with. I *know* this kind of explosive. I can totally defuse it. You got a toolbox in this truck?"

    Mauser nods.

    "Good, go get it."

"What! I'm not getting into that truck!" He loudly protests. You assure him that if this was a motion sensitive bomb then it would have exploded when Dogatie stepped up to open the door.

"Okay, in terms of defusing here's our options. Now this bomb appears to be wired when the key is put into the ignition and turned. This either means that the bomb will detonate when these two yellow wires make a connection, or when a connection is broken by turning the key.
Now, that latter type, is harder and more complicated to make, so I give it 70 - 30 odds are I can defuse this just by cutting these wires."

"Option 2: I carefully start cutting through this paper, and see if I can defuse it from there."

"Now the good news. This isn't a big bomb, it's would be sufficient to kill us if we were all inside the truck, but otuside, I'd give even old muggins here good odds of survivng if I get half a second warning."

You check the toolbox, if there isn't a multimeter then you might have to try and start cutting holes in the plastic frame of the column with a pair of bolt-cutters.

A couple of minutes later they return with a steaming cup of black coffee and you sip from it whilst you stare imperiously at the brown paper box, whilst you wait to sober up sufficiently.

Not until June at the earliest. Where you'll probably be getting a Dom with it.

You all opt for a standard loadout and make for the coast. You make good time and reach the village of nosara.

It's little more than collection of water damaged villa's once popular with tourists.
The water damage seems to have destroyed several of the wooden buildings, but some have survived.

It is five in the afternoon when you see the boats intended to carry you. Like in Limon they are in disrepair, and have seen better days. It takes an hour for the boats to land and for you to all board. What few vehicles are left are kept docked inside the Prancers, along with the planes.

At 6:00pm you begin your return to Salina Cruz.

You ask Zolomon about Heat Hawks, you get probably the most verbose reply you've ever seen him give to anything.

Apparently a heat hawk has some pretty interesting aerodynamic qualities due to the blade producing large amounts of heat. Then there's the sheer amount of programming know how you need to programme the Zaku to throw the thing in JUST the right way depending on the situation, and knowing which is best for which.

It's probably a bit too technical for you at the moment. But it certainly makes you think.

    Eight actually.

Your forces begin to filter into the town. Carefully checking the area for enemies, and staying in close formation.
The Naval landing doesn't take quite so long this time, as the Prancer is carrying all of the vehicles and planes.

You clear the Docks and begin to move inwards. The Lugguns are beginning to launch. You wait a few minutes to allow the supporting Mech Inf to catch up and then you advance into the town.

Well then let's radio in the situation if we can.

If that is going to get picked up the enemy, then fuck it. Aim for the fuel and fuck their shit up.

This should be easy then. Send one APC back to notify HQ. Attack, targeting the fuel carriers first, then afterwards send in the infantry to locate any surviving crew for interrogation

You take carefully aim and fire at a fuel tender which is currently siphoning fuel away from an HLV. The 120mm shell ruptures the tank dead on.

    It goes up.
    The HLV goes up
    Several other Tankers go up
A few more HLV's may go up.
This makes it the second time you've a mushroom cloud at night in the last 48 hours.

    Kills
    You: 15 Tanks, 4 HLV's

Once thing've died down, send the infantry in to sweep the remains. The MS squad provides cover and lookout against any surprises.

    Survivors? What survivors?

The flames will take some time to die down. Though the explosion didn't take all of the HLV's out. Furthermore, it's unlikely that the head will cause the others to explode, since they're fitted to handle atmospheric re-entry.

A few minutes of watching the fires (and the skies) the other squads begin to arrive, drawn by the light of the fires.
    Strauss confers with them.

"Well, the Lugguns report no signs of incoming fighters or enemy troops. Signs are good that we took them out here so fast that they never got a squawk out. Orders are to put out these fires, and then set up in ambush positions around this area in case they send someone to investigate..."

Looks like it's time to start stomping on burny-things and pushing tanks into barricades.

We should use the HLV's as cover, too.

As we just demonstrated how explosive the HLVs' fuel can be I think it would be a good idea to not use them as cover.

We're one of the first ground engagments they've had, and we're in a realtive shit-hole anyway - they probably haven't had the chance to nick any yet, or if they have they're busy being used to try and repel the big drop operations up north.

The fuel's already mostly gone, and the ambient heat is unlikely to set them off. It's still a marginally better option than sitting in the open.

You all assemble on the high ground flanking the valley, which makes an ideal ambush spot, waiting to see if the flames draw any enemy out.

After an hour, you recieve a radio signal from the Prancer, the Minovsky particle density has dropped to low levels and the Prancer has turned it's emitter off.

"Squads 1 and 2 stand down, Squads 3 and 4 remain on patrol. Atmospheric and battlefield conditions finally allowed us to get a stable lasercomm message off to Zeonic Central command. The situation is like this..."

It's not a problem, it's just these threads tend to go on right into the night. So if I haven't been having decent nights sleep in the week, I'm not going to be at my best.
