Alright, another autosage has come and gone so here we are in the new thread. Previous threads are as follows:

    ******

Looking into the files of the two choices for your new butler, Violet listens to what you are looking for before indicating the file with the elder gentleman.
"I believe this man will be more suited to this household. He has many years experience, and has seen many masters. I think that is something the other candidate cannot compete with."

When you hand the paper and pen across for her to take out who she didn't get along with, she blushes for a moment before looking back.
"Erm... could I request that you not ask why I am eliminating these names? It would mean a lot to me."

At the remark, her eyes are downcast.
"I-it's not a good story... but thank you."

Silently, Violet sets upon the paper, scratching out a number of names. After a few pages, she speaks out.
"What are you looking for in this new maid, skill-wise?"

"I... think there are a few girls I know who could be like that. Rumours would always spread around the Academy like spilt wine, and it was easy to see who was gossiping and who was keeping to themselves about things..."

Slowly, a few names are circled. The choices include a few learned women and a few underclassmen of Violet, but as she nears the list she gasps forlornly.
"Oh no... one of the girls who I was paired with in my juniour years has returned to the Academy from an abusive master. I hope it's not too bad, but... she did go back..."

"It happens from time to time. A girl comes back with a black eye, or a broken wrist, and is rehabilitated until she is ready to be sent out again... or until the Academy decides she is unfit to be a maid any longer. We all grew up knowing that we may get sent to such a house. To tell you the truth, when I was informed that I was finally being sent to a master, I was a little worried that something like this could happen to me."

Having sounded sad as she spoke, Violet raises her head with a weak smile.
"But you're not like that, so it's alright. I feel bad for Karen, but she'll be alright. She's strong. Anyway, let's move on."

Next on the list are the underclassmen to Violet. These individuals are the ones who study the hardest and are able to fulfill the criteria for graduation before everyone else.
"You are pretty much guaranteed that these girls will not have left the Academy before, and you will be their first master."

The other option is the older maids.
"Some of these maids will have been to another master or two before you, and others will simply not have been hired so continued lessons until they were."
The latter was the case for Violet herself.
"While they may be set in ways contrary to what you prefer, and will have to acclimatise, they will have more experience than those younger than myself."

hmm on the one hand the young ones are an unknown element. They have not been tested in other homes and could have some serious issues that weren't present in the school environment. The old ones are a guarantee what their record shows is who they are, blemishes and all.

After looking at the list, Violet whittles it down to two.
"I have to admit that I don't know either of these girls too well, but I know enough that they are of the mindset that you require."

The first is aged eighteen, and her majors are cooking, cleaning and athletics.
"Athletics is something a maid can major in." Violet explains. "It shows that she is fit, strong and able to take care of herself. As for the girl herself, she seemed rather devoted, from what I remember."

The second girl is a quieter one, majoring in electronic communications, book-keeping, calligraphy and guest management.
"This one spent most of her time in the Academy's library... she didn't have many friends I don't think, but that may have been her perogative."

You allow yourself to be persuaded. Following the maid through the hall and down the grand staircase, you take a seat at the bar as Violet crosses behind before looking through the collection of bottles.
"A well stocked bar. Not that I expected anything less, of course. Now, what do you fancy?"

She seems... at ease behind the bar. Like a captain who strides to the helm of his ship. Not having any real preferences, you let her choose the first drink and ask her to join you in a toast to new beginnings and friends not yet met. Violet considers this for a moment before nodding.
"Usually I would pass. It's undignified for a barkeep to be outdrinking the people she's served. But okay, this once I'll join you."

Reaching into the fridges, she pulls out the tomato juice, tobasco, a lemon and some pepper before throwing a hand out to take the vodka bottle from the shelf. You watch her show off with her trick pouring for a moment before she crafts the Bloody Marys, sliding one to you and rounding the bar to sit on a stool next to yours. She lifts her glass in the toast and daintily sips her drink.

Yours has a bit of a kick, but it's quite acceptable.

First of all to make her feel even more comfortable: tell her a bit about us at first? For example parents, how money never replaces people and how we are glad she is with us?

After the initial dialog continue with this:
Shall we have a conversation of her life? Such as was it her own free will to come to the academy? Apologize first and then ask about her life before she came to the academy? And comment to her if she would like to tell any fond memories she had in the academy, something she might like to share?

"Maybe when I was younger. At the Academy they have ways of replacing those kinds of thoughts with wanting to be a maid all the more. The youngest see it as a noble thing, to want to serve a prestigeous household, and wait on princeses and princesses. As you get older you realise that's fantasy, but the noble thought of serving as a maid remains. We're starting to fade away into obscurity, us true maids. Nowadays, anyone who picks up a mop and puts on an apron wants to call themselves a maid. It's nice, to be the genuine thing."

The Bloody Mary that was in her hands is gone. Looking at her, you think she's in a happy place with her inebriation right now. Maybe they didn't allow her to drink after the incident. Or maybe it's just strong... you're feeling a little less that straight upright.

You speak a little of yourself, of how your homelife used to be, of going to a private school and how some parts were similar to her Academy. You can both laugh at antics against lecturers with too much starch in their collars, because all institutions have at least one.

You already know that it wasn't her idea to come to the Academy, but you decide to ask about her life before it. She looks as though she has tasted something unpleasant for a moment before she answers.
"It wasn't all bad when I was really young. When he was up, my father would treat me to toys or a trip to the Madrid fairgrounds. But it was bad when he was losing... and the weeks before I was handed over, he was losing a lot."

She is quiet for a moment before realising that she has said more than she meant to. Laughing once, she shakes her head.
"But that was a long time ago. I'm sorry to go on like that, the alcohol is making me talk."

At your bidding, she mixes another drink. This time it's a Black Russian. Perhaps vodka is her weapon of choice?
As she shakes the cocktail, she speaks over the sound of the ice.
"Making the truly classic drinks is an art all of it's own. Some people find it dull, but in a way you compete with any other bartender who ever made that drink for them. Think back, you'll remember where you drank the best mix of your favourite drink."

Quickly, she pours two glasses and wipes the condensation off the black marble bar.

Sipping upon your drinks, you reminisce about the time you let the parking break off your father's E-Type by accident, then hid in the conservatory for almost a full day. The story makes her laugh, as she knows a little about cars and understands full well how bad a situation it must have been at the time. Her joviality returns, but she doesn't have too many stories about her Academy days that she is willing to share yet. Instead, Violet asks more about the mansion and your ancestors who lived here, a topic you are able to talk about. Violet is rather interested in this place's history, it seems. Thinking about it as you talk, it may go back to that noble ideal she spoke of, that the younger students held close. Perhaps hope of such a story never dies.

As the drinks are finished, the maid takes your glasses and puts them and the shaker into the glass washer before leaning on the counter a little. She seems a little tipsy, but seems to be keeping a measure of humility about her.
"Well, thank you for drinking with me." she says with her small smile before rubbing the counter with the cleaning cloth.
"Is there anything else I can do for you this evening, master? If not, I will see you to the top of the stairs and bid you goodnight."

When you ask for her to sing, she blushes profusely.
"I've been drinking, it would sound like a dog howling. I wouldn't subject you to that..."

She stops and thinks for a moment, the rag ceasing movement. Her face is blank, and you think she is trying to think of a way out, but after a moment her voice begins to flow into melody.

    "Why are there so many
    Songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
    Rainbows are visions
    They're only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide
So we've been told and some chose to
    believe it
But I know they're wrong wait and see

    Someday we'll find it
    The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me."

As her voice carries through the basement, her eyes close gently and her head turns ever so slightly. You see her hands gently ball the cloth between them as they hover just over the marble counter, and even the Galaga machine seems to become quiet.
When she is finished, she looks immediately away.
"I'm sorry, that should have sounded much better." A laugh. "That's why I don't do karaoke."

Clapping your hands, you thank her for singing such a beautiful tune for you. Her blush deepens, but she still manages to look up.

"Thank you for your applause, but next time I sing for you I hope to be sober."

After a moment she puts the rag away, still clearly embarassed.
"We should retire for the night, if there is nothing else you wish. Shall I see you to the top of the stairs, master?"

Never having seen you drink before, Violet stays close to you in case you start to stumble drunkenly and need to be caught. Truly you would have to be a sad and sorry drunk for this to be the case, but it is her job to take care of you now.

Slowly you ascend the stairs together, the footsteps echoing out into the Great Room. Reaching the top, she stops.
"Goodnight, master. If you need me, please don't think twice. Just call me on the intercom and I will serve you as I am able."

She looks as if she wants to say something else, but stops and settles for, "I will wake you tomorrow at the time you requested. Pleasant dreams, master."

With that, she bows and turns to go to her room in the basement.

*anything else urgent? If not, it will wait until tomorrow*

You wish her good night and pleasant dreams in return before heading off across the Great Room towards the master bedroom. Violet's footsteps fade away down the stairwell behind you, but are drowned out by the grandfather clock chiming the hour.

Alright, calling it here. This game has gone on for ten straight hours and three consecutive threads, and I need sleep.

Obviously Since we are a small household Ambrose will be preforming the role of Valet as well as Butler. As the majordomo in charge of the household staff as well as performing personal services such as maintaining his employer's clothes, running his bath and perhaps shaving his employer, he is expected to act in a discrete manner. I kind of have a Steven Fry Jeeves vibe going.
