Fantasy Craft is the best D&D game released ever. I am playing a rootwalker pirate and I'm loving it!

Some of us do, yes. If I were going to run regular, not quasi-historical fantasy, I would use FantasyCraft. Where 3.0 was a relief from 2e AD&D, FC has me actually excited about d20. It dropped everything I didn't like and added only things I like.

But of course, as the new kid in the classroom, all the social groups - 3aboos*, 4rries*, and Pathfailures* - shun it with derision.

    * Used for semi-satirical intent. They're stupid terms.

FC is great. Issues you should be aware of.

    1. Size. Too easy to get to be huge sized. DM has to be prepared for fucked up party size balance if allowing anything.

    2. Grapple. It is broken. Hard. It's worse than 3.5e grapple. The only thing that can oppose a grapple check, IS ANOTHER GRAPPLE. The only thing you can do in a grapple, is roll another grapple check. Regular moves, like the club one, take advantage of the size differences so easily. Also you can grapple two people. Wrestling feat tree means anyone you grapple will die.

    3. Organization is shit. They mention numerous things once then don't even mention them again. Things are in weird ass places too.

That's actually my biggest complaint with FC; I hear so much about it being a great system, but the book is actually effort to work with, and that just turns me right off. Deciphering the book should not be an obstacle to running a game. You can say whatever else you like about Pathfinder's content, but it is fantastically well laid out. I agree. I believe that if there is one thing WotC has that most indie developers need to fucking figure out and get in line with, is making their books not suck. I don't care HOW fantastic your system is, if it take me 12 hours to make a character, or even how to figure out how to make one, since it's pdf only, and that makes it much harder to flip pages back and forth, it makes me believe the developers didn't care.

tl;dr Make your books well organized.

Which is even WORSE! BBEG has to A. be a challange for mr. hueg wrestler, which means if it comes to grappling, and it will for a hueg grapple focused guy, the rest of the party has to sit out, since you don't attack into the grapple.

Don't give me that 'but they can fight off the BBEG's minions'. That's BULLSHIT and you know it. How would you like it if you got to mess around killing bullshit little minions when the real fight is happening between two huge guys? Yeah, like you are worthless, which you are, since mr. Wrestler can pin you and kill you in 2 rounds easy.

If you read it front to back and have a decent memory, it's not too bad. Just come to the first mention of bleeding, go "Oh cool, they incorporate that, I wonder how they do it?" and a while later in the combat section, "Oh, that's pretty easy." I never really got this kind of complaint, it's like reading a novel and complaining that it didn't reference its own previous pages to show where a plot twist makes sense. But, that's just my style with a new system, I know a few people who like to bounce from section to section constantly the first time they open the motherfucker. Usually end up explaining shit to them in the end.

    Round 3 Wrestler pins BBEG2
    Round 4 Wrestler kills BBEG2

Excepting the fact that Fantasy Craft is a rulebook; and thus technically a textbook. The novel comparison doesn't make much sense.

You wouldn't read a textbook on science, and expect to be constantly referencing later pages to understand the first few chapters would you? At the very least the book needs WotC style sidebars explaining terms, or better yet page references, a decent index, some kind of 'If you're new to the system' section, and a decent layout.

I like the look of the system, I like the look of the flexibility, I like the fact it's getting rave reviews; but I don't want to have to read the entire rule book backwards just to have to be able to play it.

My point is, that your version of wrestling where you revolve around CDGing pinned shit is hideously ineffective when it comes to fighting, you know, more than one thing.

Now, using your wrestling in other ways, it's slightly more effective. My point is, that Pin+Coup De Grace is ineffective against more situations and can easily be rendered useless.

Well clearly. The pin+CDG ability is shit against lots of mooks. Unfortunately, there's lots of other stuff you get in that feat tree that's horrible. The CDG thing emphasizes how powerful the feats are, but in general, grappling is unstoppable. Once you are grabbed, you are not going to escape. Also he can swing you like a club and kill both you and the other mook.

Also he can pick up a house/boulder/tree and start dropping it.

The racial writeups are fan-fucking-tastic. I'm still not totally sold on Iconic Classes - feels either like I'd want another class in there or a lesser penalty - but the write-ups are awesome. They offer a great handle on the races without stereotyping the hell out of them.
And a non-mechanically-minded friend whipped up Arcana Unearthed's Litorians in about ten minutes. The Spycraft Origin Creation system is awesome.

Nope. You can make your own in like ten minutes, barring NPCs and maps. This is where a lot of people THINK it gets complicated, until they catch on the the book is just holding your hand and going through making a detailed world for you step-by-step, reminding you of things that you probably wouldn't think of but add to the atmosphere, instead of telling you IT MUST BE LIKE THIS. It's more of friendly reminders than rules and it's only as complicated as you make it.

Except for that the Drakes don't have opposable thumbs. There's really no kinda having thumbs. It's about the only thing that keeps them down besides their size, though. Important balance aspect that gets overlooked a lot.

Also how do you get the core ability for expert classes? In order to get the core ability for a normal class you have to take it at level 1, but the minimum level you can take expert classes is at level five.

That said, while character creation is fun it requires a lot of backtracking. What's really annoying is that some class features, feat trees and origin stuff adds in odd total attribute modifiers. The +5 total Int for the Keeper class for example. Anticipating and accommodating for stuff like that is a pain in the ass. The skill system is more fun than 3.5 but rank allocation is still just as complicated and messy for many characters.
