    Sup /tg/.

I'm looking for a system that has rules for handling mechs, especially combining mechs. Pic very related.

Though perhaps a little more variety. So, do any of you elequen/tg/entlemen know of one?

Sort of wanted rules for pilots and mechs, so a player could have their stats as well as the mechs stats affect their combat potential.

If all else fails, I WILL homebrew a system at a later date, maybe even post it here, but it will be shit compared to something that a professional game designer has come up with.

Sounds like you should be able to just take a mech game and modify it.

All you really need are rules for how long it takes to combine and what bonuses result and your golden.

Mekton can handle super robots. ESPECIALLY combiners (if you have a few days to work out how combining/transforming/scaling works)

d20 Future has mech rules. But then you have to play d20 future...

Cthulutech has mechs, and I don't mean the engels. They have honest to god mechs that are generally weaker than Engels but can probably be scaled up. Again, C-tech is said to have a fantastic setting but a mediocre at best rules system that could have been great.

I know that at least one fa/tg/uy is making an Evangelion game, but that probably won't help you and god knows when it will be completed.

You are now imagining Kamina in an Evangelion. You would never be able to tell if it was Berserking, cause he would fight like that all the time.

It'd be more bare bones system with ideas taken from the world. For instance, the robot classification system and the way the stats are distributed.

For instance, "real robots" tend to be geared towards evasion, with low defense statistics, sort of like a rogue archetype. Super Robots on the other hand are designed to tank hits and dish out a lot of damage. Super Robots tend to have less accuracy though.

Just things like that. Though I could always mix both SRW and GL, make a power sort of like Spiral Energy, put in systems for inspirational pilots like a bard or paladin.

Taking from SRW again, the pilots could take feats that would give them powers, like a bit of recovery or a sure hit. Usage of these feats would use up points based on their level and a stat. Or they could go down the path of Spiral Energy, using the power to do the impossible. Spiral Energy would be used as a modifier to rolls and other things, like a little bit of health regen or something.

The Spirit powers would be more powerful, but eventually you can't use any more till next encounter. The Spiral Energy would be more flexible, but less powerful at similar amounts. Sort of. You could blow all your spiral energy on one attack, or you could repair your mech each turn a little.

I'd have to play test to see if what I come up with is viable and balanced. And if it does justice to the source, of course.

    >>6760322
Forgot to add that Spiral Power would come back over time faster than Spirit. And that roleplay could be rewarded with gains in spirit/spiral power if appropriate.

I support this wholeheartedly. What system would you use as a base?

d20 has its problems, but you can work around it and its rediculously easy to modify.

Mutants and masterminds seems like it has potential.

DH might work for the Eva game, but do even think about it for SRW. C-Tech might work, but I don't know enough about it to say for sure.

Given the source material, its really tempting to make Spiral Energy Overpowered. And once something becomes overpowered, everyone wants it. And then you end up with an entire Team of Kaminas shoving each other out of the way so that they can be the one to stand at the top of the hill and point their finger at the sky.

D20 is what I'm familiar with, though I'm not sure I like it much... I haven't played any of the others, but I'll look into them. Though I have heard about Dark Heresy, it seems a bit "LOL YOU ROLLED THE DICE NOW YOU DIE" from what I've read here. Suppose I could fix it up a little though.

I'll look into them, but until I'm more familiar with them I'll probably start the system off with D20.
    >> Anonymous 11/18/09(Wed)13:21 No.6760915
    >>6760694
Yeah, that's why I'm sorta talking it down a bit compared to spirit. If I stuck to the source, spiral power would be able to do pretty much anything and be the most over powered game mechanic ever. So I really have to balance them out a lot.
    >> Anonymous 11/18/09(Wed)13:24 No.6760946
    >>6760842

    So, d20.

Given that the mechs are going to be VERY closely tied into class (Super robot pilot performs poorly in Real mech, Eva pilot and Guren Lagan pilot can;t even pilot each others.... ect) it might be worthwhile to make upgrading the robot a part of the class itself rather than a separate question.

Think like the Tattooed Monk prestige class, where you get to choose what ability you get from a list. Each robot type would have a bunch of base stuff and different progressions for some abilities, and then a list of abilities to chose from at certain levels that only they get access to.

I don't know, Evangelion's AT Fields kinda make them immune to conventional weaponry. Like nukes.

And you can apperantly use them to make miniature universes. So thats kinda overpowered too.

Realistically speaking, Gundums and real Robots will probably get pwned in the face of the shit Gianax puts out.
    >> Anonymous 11/18/09(Wed)13:34 No.6761028
If you want, I could zip up all my Mutants and Masterminds and Megaupload it. What you're talking about is very easily done with a quick glance over the Mecha & Manga book for streamlined mech building, giving your characters a few mecha-specific powers, and giving the mechs Gestalt powers.

I was thinking of the mechs being more like weapons. Static but upgradeable. The only mechs that would really level or anything like the concept would be special robots, like the Lagann and it's combinations. The thing that really sets apart the Super Robot pilots and the Real Robot pilots is their stat distribution and feat choices.

Though I can see why a leveling mech would be really cool, it'd feel special with no extra work... Argh, I'm torn. Maybe optional rules?

    >>6760972
Yeah, that's very true. Gurren Lagann and the Evangelion mechs would rip any SRW Real or Super to bits. Even SRX.

Anyway, I'll archive this thread in case any more good ideas pop up, but I've got to be going. When I've actually got something solid I'll post a thread about it for ideas and input.

In M&M, an AT field would be: Immunity (Physical and Energy damage, Limited: Half) + Protection (Impervious).
Spiral Power would probably just be your best attack with a few APs that you use extra efforts to stunt whatever you need at the time at the cost of either a hero point or tiring you.

No, I'm pretty sure Evangelion with their REALLY FUCKING SHORT RANGE AND RUN TIME would get their shit stomped by even a squad of Gespenst (Which are some of the most badass mass-produced units around)
Evangleons are kind of low on the power scale of supers. Gunbusters are much more dangerous.

Gurren Lagann, however, is intentionally over the top so obviously it is "The Best" at everything because its capable of being "Infinitely huge" even though subtleties in the fight suggest that it isn't even as big as jupiter.

Not really being into Evangelion, I didn't know about the run time issues. I was just going off what the other anon said about being practically immune to convetional weapons, which would rule out basically everything a Gespenst could throw barring maybe the Jet Magnum.

So obviously if we're going to add in Evangelion stuff, not leaving it up to the GMs to balance it/fluff it, then I won't be able to do so personally. I guess /tg/ and maybe /m/ could help fill in the blanks.

I can totally see GL as an M&M campaign run by a GM who doesn't give a fuck about PL limits. I mean, first goddamn episode: GM's running a game that's theme is challenging authority. An entire session of roleplaying later, he realizes the two players aren't going to actually fight his first BBEG. In between that session and the next, he gets another player in on the game. He decides to make the game a little less literal as far as the theme goes. Tell Simon's player he found something cool. Drop the first mech, introduce new player. Some running around and Simon's Burrowing wankery later, that cool thing you found is a mech. In an obvious, "You're not going to be able to do this later," fashion, all three characters are crammed into the one-seater mech. Combat slogs on, they can't seem to significantly hurt the other mech. All of a sudden, Simon's player decides to stunt his Burrowing power into an attack fluffed as a massive drill, extra efforts the fuck out of it and goes full +5 Power Attack, Kamina uses the Leadership feat to spend Hero Points on his behalf, Yoko aids action, and they blow the motherfucker through the ceiling.
The players decide that worked pretty well and resolve to find bigger and better ways to use that same tactic fluffed differently for the rest of the campaign. GM hands out power points like candy, Simon spends them on a wonky mecha-targeting Possession/Gestalt power, Kamina picks up three ranks of the Teamwork feat and craploads of Lucky. Kamina hijacks another mech. Hijinks ensue.
