You have set out for the silver vein your experts have told you about in the jungle. Would you like to proceed along pre cut paths in the dark continent no matter where they lead (and risk getting lost) or cut your own path with your workers?
    >> Victorian Journey Some Steampunk Dude 11/20/09(Fri)20:39 No.6794224
Reminder: you are heading north and the silver vein you are looking for is rumored to be near a lost city. Winston comments saying that "Cities and shite like that are for the army, lets just mine this bitch of a jungle and cut loose. I don't want to be here long."

godfried comments that there are advantaged to setting up a long term settlement.

    >> Victorian Journey Some Steampunk Dude 11/20/09(Fri)20:45 No.6794301
Sometimes I hate writing long posts then finding my questions answered. You start cutting your way north. The WW1 era trucks are having alot of problems, but the mechanics in your expert core are proving themselves by fixing them. The rifles are riding pompously in the trucks while the workers do all the machete grunt work. Do you want to cover your trail so others dont follow or create a dirt road as you go for more supplies? Do you want the rifles to do any labor or put it all on the workers?
    >> Anonymous 11/20/09(Fri)20:46 No.6794321
Cut a path for what? SLASH AND BURN this jungle untill we have some proper ground to plant foodstuffs on in the future.

Let the foetid, wasteland jungle weep and shrink back from our bright burning torches of Christianity and Civilization!

Yes, have those guys sling their rifles across their back and get to work! They are vets and former soldiers, they know work that needs to be done when they see it.

Rotate the workers and rifles out so they can rest and keep and eye out for danger in the shade.
    >> Victorian Journey Some Steampunk Dude 11/20/09(Fri)20:49 No.6794359
To make the progress go faster, you have the rifles start burning through the jungle to make a path. Because of the humidity the fire doesnt spread and is a very useful tool. However, the fire creates a trail of evidence that is impossible to cover up, so it is recomended you build a dirt road. Orders for the workers? road or no road? do the rifles continue working?

The workers start making a road behind you as the rifles press forward with torches and machetes. The (unguarded) workers have started to complain of shadows in the brush.

Winston working with the rifles has uncovered a body of a native. He is ornemented with what the experts tell you are bone jewelry pieces of the tribe of the death serpent.

Winston asks you what we should do about the bloody natives.

Lol, quinine and gin are in the extra supplies. Anyways, the soldiers reach a clearing. One side of the clearing is blocked off by vines that you cannot see past, and the other way is the way by which youve come. This clearing is full of stones and crudely chopped trees.

Winston says "If this isnt a bloody trap then I've never seen one".

Do you circle the trucks? do you burn the vines? do you reorganize the layout of your forces?
    >> Victorian Journey Some Steampunk Dude 11/20/09(Fri)21:00 No.6794466
Sorry, wasnt reading fast enough. You set up the gatlings to cover the W and E sides of the clearing, and gather the trucks in the center. You put 50 rifles in front and in back. The workers and experts are guarding the supplies in the center of this formation. What do you do about the vines?

The experts go out well guarded and the natives only skirmish a few times due to the gatlings and the everburning ring of fire around the camp (not that actually destructive cause of the humidity). The experts determine that the silver vein is less than a day's journey away and that the city is probably a week away. Do you start settling in long term here or start the convoy moving again? >> Victorian Quest Some Steampunk Dude 11/20/09(Fri)21:30 No.6794804
The experts are snide in the fact that they get to ride, and the workers and rifles both know that the experts are way above their paygrade so they dont complain.

With only a couple death tribe sightings you get to where the experts have predicted a silver vein to be. There is a tiny rock outcropping and just a cursory glace reveals that it has tons of silver. However etched into the rock are death tribe sigils. In true british fashion, Winston breaks open the rock with a pickaxe. Godfried suggests you clear the area of trees and set up camp. Orders? remember give sepcific instructions to every block of 50.

The experts start drawing up plans for a mineshaft and testing the soil while not doing any physical labor. The workers and rifles clear the forest in shits, and now you have about 1/2 of an acre of open fertile ground. How do you set up? remember, you brought iron sheets and tons of wood and cloth and sandbags with you. Also, the jungle wood is subpar to the imported stuff u have with you, but it is in large supply when u want to use it. Now /tg/, build DAT COLONY

The workers have now cleared 1 acre, and have discovered the edge of death tribe territory right next to your camp. Also, they have started working on the roads again. Winston asks for permission to lead 30 rifles to scout the city boundries
    >> Anonymous 11/20/09(Fri)21:54 No.6795077
The holes used to fill the sandbags should form a perimeter trench around the accesses of the mine.

No more of that avalanche-o-logs killing our boys. A good 3-foot trench around the campsite and reinforce it with native-logs stuck into the ground at an angle to catch anything the natives might want to roll into our trenches.

God no. Keep Winston on post. The Frenchman will either come slithering back or he has a Frenchie place out in the boondocks to retreat to.

Just because we shot at him, doesn't mean he has anyplace out in the goddamn jungle left to go, unless its back toward the Frog Base One.

I suggest a small party of five rifleman, three workers for digging, and one expert for lore go to examine the lost city.
