The story was, there were rumors about a poke that shouldn't be, and it was twisting the land. The players all thought it was Giratina.

It wasn't. It was something far older and more dangerous. Guess what it was?

I maintain that Porygon-Z is one of the most grimdark pokemon out there. It's a sentient computer virus--and obviously got stronger and more intelligent from when it was "tame".

Also, it learns Signal Beam. THEY'RE COMMUNICATING.
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)14:36 No.6804944
Actually, from the original Porygon, Porygon2 was made to explore other planets and Porygon-Z to explore "alien dimensions". Neither upgrade worked as expected.

Still, the concept of a pokemon able to travel between dimensions has potential for brick shitting moments.

giritina is able to travel between dimensions at will.

he is the dimensioal equivilent to palkia and dialga
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)14:46 No.6805040

The power of a godlike pokemon is enough to make Porygon-Z's ability to travel through dimensions possible. The spawn of the unholy union goes through the fourth dimension--time, back to the laboratory where its original form was created. Yes, Mewtwo didn't burn the Cinnabar lab, Missingno did to ensure that its grandfather escaped.. Mewtwo tried to save it, but took the blame because around that time, the people of Kanto hated Psychic-types (it was gen1).

The wayward Porygon that was created managed to get into Team Rocket's hands, and was sold through the Celadon Game Corner to a trainer that would save Silph and get a prototype upgrade for his beloved Porygon as a reward...

not quite, them fighting tears holes in the spacetime continuim that can affect other dimensions, they can travel throu these holes but it causes extensive damage to: themselves, giritina, the dimension they travel to, the dimension they travel from, and the Reverse World.
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)15:09 No.6805240
although if they work together ther can repair the dimension they come from and the one they enter, but this does more damage to the reverse world, and causes giritina to retaliate by attacking our dimension.

and it leaves clouds of antimatter FUCKING EVERYWHERE, and if that stuff touches a shaymin, well, you better hope your not on that half of the planet.

so dialga/palkia attempting to travel through dimensions causes the pokemon equivilent to a tantrum spiral.

shaymin can redirect attacks (technically its only status effects in the games though) so in the movie:
shaymin gets attacked by giritina with an attack that warps reality. the redirected attack nutralizes giritinas powers and locks it in the reverse world.
shaymin absorbs a cloud of pan dimensional antimatter. the "redirected attack" is so powerful that it scares away legendary's.

nope! its gonna be a full splat.

or maybe closer to a campaign setting.

ill be including (depending on what i can actually do):
New pokemon, mostly the glitch pokemon from all generations.
Pokemon templates (Enhanced clones, shadow pokemon, the "real" ghosts you need the sliph scope to fight)
New classes (Aura user, others maybe depending on whats needed)
Example locations (glich city, reverse world)

and pretty much anything else thats needed.

if stark releases it after HG and SS are released ill probably include the pokethalon also.

on my own, once he actually releases the core rules.

As for the numbering, i would either use a seperate pokedex (like the unowndex) or have them listeed at zero and go into negatives from their (0 being Missingno, -1 bieng 'm, etc.)

    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)16:30 No.6805918
Static value based on their highest stat, then a value added from their current HP percentage (Round to nearest 10 or 20?), opposed by a base rate set by the quality of the ball?
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)16:33 No.6805943
Yes, otherwise the players could just say "I Catch it." and win every battle.

I would suggest having it like this:
Make an attack roll, the DC is the opponents health + Con bonus - Status Effect modifiers (sleep poisen etc) - Pokeball modifiers (1for poke, 2 for great, 5 for lure if used on a pokemon attached to a Fishing Rod etc)

You may also want to have a Will save by the pokemon also, if you do this, i suggest you move the Status condition penalty to the will save instead.

capture mechanic in the game is balls
    this makes the most sense
with added modifiers depending on whatever,
except for stating out items abilities and pokemon for convinience, i don't see a need for a wholey unique system which is why i was going generic in this. is this a bad idea?

Ive seen that page, its on bulbapedia, let me see if i can find it.

if its for a one shot or something it should be fine, but if you plan on making it a full campaign then you may want to go with a specifily designed system.

If its the former then the threads that op posted have a few people mention systems that work well (Besm 2e and Mechs and Manga)

Err, I'm specifically looking for reasons actualy, not just general opinions.

For the templates are you also gong to be including the ones from the TCG? Like light, dark, ex, delta, etc
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)17:24 No.6806460
At first i thought it was a stupid idea, then i actually the cards on bulbapedia.

Dark Pokemon: lower hp but higher attack. yah i suppose i could work that in.
Light pokemon: Higher hp but lower attack, would be needed to balance out dark.
Shining: shiny pokemon that are more powerful then normal, Stark already has plans for shiny's so i wouldn't want to mess with those till i knew what he was doing.
Delta: wild cyborg pokemon that gain types that they cant normally be...

does anyone whether we has a copy of any of the mechanics yet?
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)18:12 No.6806999
Stark hasn't even put them into PDF form yet, the rules are scattered across tons of word docs. all we have is the stuff he posted in the 3 threads in op's post.

didn't stark say that breeders could already change a pokemons type? i remember him saying something about a charizard using watergun. or something like that.
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)18:26 No.6807149
No, breeders are able to teach TM's to pokemon that can learn them without the TM, and teach Tm's to ANY pokemon if they do have the TM.

So if you have a TM for water gun, you can teach it to Charizard, or if you don't you can teach it to a pokemon that CAN learn the TM, even if you don't have it.
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)18:39 No.6807306
wait so i can have a water type charizard? how does that work?
what if i have a water type charmander? does it stay water when it evolves? Does it still learn fire moves?
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)18:42 No.6807332
No, they have the ability to gain TM moves they are normally incapable of learning. The Charmander would still be fire type, but have Water Gun.
    >> Anonymous 11/21/09(Sat)18:52 No.6807428
well, the template is mostly for Wild pokemon, but you can catch them, and i will probably make a featto turn a pokemon into a Delta pokemon.
This is just a rough idea, i would still need to test it, and it might not even work with Starks rules.

If a pokemon Is in its first stage It gets rid of its Type(s) and chooses a new one (If a pokemon had 2 types it still only gains 1 type) and gains that as their type, They also pick up to three of their attacks that they had STAB's for and change them to their new type.

When a pokemon evolves it retains its type, and if its evolving into the last pokemon in its species evolutionary line it can chose a second type to take also. Since Single stage pokemon are always at the end of their evolutionary line, they gain a second type as soon as they gain this template (so a female combee that evolves can take a second type, but a male one can't since they aren't at their species final stage of evolution)

When a pokemon would learn a new move that is their old type, they can choose to instead take a move of their new type.
