When we last left our brave Captain Roarke in http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/6818268/
we were preparing to mount a new expedition into the city to take revenge against the natives. THEY. SHOT. YOUR. HAT. Bolstered by the kings reinforcements, you prepare to lay siege to the natives.
Current Status: 130 workers, 60 green rifles, 40 mercenaries, 50 experts. 10 natives 10 grenadiers, 1 at rifle, 4 gatlings on trucks, 1 mortar, one maxim gun (very light compared to gatling, set up on tripod, can be carried by two men or one royal gren)

    >> Victorian Revenge Some Steampunk Dude 11/24/09(Tue)20:21 No.6853968
Forgot to mention, we have 2 gliders launched off a truck at the depot as well. The silver mine got expanded last time, and you discovered a vault in the ancient city but got chased off. The french mining company forces have been suspiciously quiet..... 13 rp available. ORDERS? are we following the plan from the last thread?

just a reminder the plan last time was
Then, I suggest taking 30 Mercs, 20 Soldiers, 10 Grenadiers, 2 Natives, 2 Gatling Trucks, and both Gliders, and take on those Snake Tribe Natives at the Lost City. I suggest the Maxim Gun, but it sounds pretty unreliable. I guess we could post it at the entrance with the 2 gatling trucks? We would lead the expedition, of course, unless someone has another idea.

For starters, dispatch a two-man cavalry team to scout the surrounding area for danger.

Failure of team to report back in four hours will be assumed to mean ENEMIES UP OUR ASS.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:50 No.6854255

Yeah, AT rifles before tanks exist is interesting.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:51 No.6854264

I'm OK with it. Just sayin'

Assuming the native DON'T KNOW WHO WE ARE this sounds like a plan.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:51 No.6854265
if we want to try diplomacy with the natives, have your workers prepare a shipment of grains and silver and guns, also other exclusive british refined goods, maybe some rifles(the weapons not our troops) we need to either eliminate the snake tribe, or turn them to our side against the french.

Alright, for purposes of speeding things up I'll assume you went with the plan outlined last thread which is>>6853998 You might want to take at least a small force inside to draw them out. You and Godfried are not exactly the Thin Red Line all by yourselves.

Also, the AT rifle is for hunting the French "female" type steam tank armed with maxims that you have spotted in the jungle. You decided not to take it with you on the temple assault.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:52 No.6854271
Also, some light, fast detachment to see what those damn frenchies are up to would be useful. If they're dead, well, one less colonial challenge, but if they ARE dead, I'd like to know that it was from native schwarm tactics and not AWAKENED ANCIENT GODS FROM UNDERNEATH THE EARTH because they dug too greedily and too deep.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:52 No.6854272

    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:54 No.6854280
ALRIGHT, go ahead, send the described force to engage the natives, but bring along a small secondary force, with AT, to lurk on the fringes of the jungle in case of a french flanking movement.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:54 No.6854285

My interest in this quest just tripled.

You send one native and one expert to scout and report back for the French. You tried diplomacy with the natives last time (refer to previous thread). And they Shot Your Hat! They natives know who you are as you did an Indiana Jones style run from the zerg last time you visited. You counted only about 400 natives then, but there might be more.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:56 No.6854296
french have been to quiet lately, our base should be good with only a small contingent of guards however, the mortar and MGs can hold off most any counter attack
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)20:56 No.6854301

I wouldn't sweat the frenchie tank too much, gentlemen. Jungle terrain gives us excellent opportunities to swarm it and stuff explosives in interesting places should we need too, and it's effective firepower is greatly reduced anyhow. Leave the AT rifle at home; it'll be needed for defense.

While we're at it, we need scouts to watch our flanks and keep us informed. Wish we had more goddamn horses.

You are camped out in front of the city entrance, with all your machine guns and gatlings set up facing the city except one. Everyone is on edge. The plan last time was to lure them out. ORDERS? The city is made of grand temple stone, think Aztecs in africa but more ornate and inscribed.

    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)21:08 No.6854389

    >grand temple stone

No fucking way I'm taking my men into a city fight where the natives melee weapons are hideously and tellingly effective, and we've no way to bypass strongpoints by going through the walls of buildings.

Without artillery, I'd say our best option is to avoid this strongpoint entirely, and starve them out. Camp the gate(s), it's not like they're going to be offering impressive resistance in an open field.

    I hope.

Godfried has one more flare for a sticky situation. Anyways, you have alot of mercs with you that are only kept in check by you and the grens, so you might not want to seperate them. The riflemen are good at running if nothing else, so they might be wise. ORDERS anon?
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)21:11 No.6854416
get the gatlings set up in defensive positions on the high points, giving them a view of the city, but covered/ manned by 5 rifles each, trucks constantly moving, providing ammo/ quick pickup in case of a retreat. split forces in 2, careful not to give mercs too much power, vets balanced with rookies, etc. move in on streets parallell to each other, but dont get separated. gliders circling/ spotting and droping flares
    >> Researcher Sam 11/24/09(Tue)21:12 No.6854418
Actually, they aren't any more effective than normal. Hell, none of the men died in our last excursion. The biggest threat is probably the leader who has a looted pistol. And we have gatling and machine guns. And bombs. If we can manage to lure them into the open, victory is almost assured. In b4 Murphy's law.
    >> Victorian Quest Some Steampunk Dude 11/24/09(Tue)21:12 No.6854425
You are here for REVENGE. Either the native bastards or your army will perish today. Otherwise you take a massive charisma and moral hit and lose some RP. If you can draw them out you can win. This city is important and full of treasure. and it has farms.

buddy, your guys are camped outside, the ground is flat outside of the city. Your trucks cant go in cause it is too narrow, and your gliders cant go in because the ceilings are a touch low. Maybe later they could when you requisition a BRITISH FUCKING ACE. till then, you should draw them out with infantry and keep your forces centered. Please READ LAST THREAD LAST FEW dozen POSTS
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)21:15 No.6854460

    >and it has farms.

More then anything else this forces the matter.

Okay, entrench the grenadiers + mercs and lead the greenies closer to the walls, perhaps even up to (but not inside,) the gate. When we draw fire, we'll give a few volleys, then start retreating, then start running.

I don't trust green troops not to ACTUALLY start running like pussies, which is why false retreats are dangerous, but that's why the rear ambush/bastion is made up of grenadiers and mercs.
    >> Researcher Sam 11/24/09(Tue)21:16 No.6854470
I was under the impression that we were at the main/only entrance to the city. Are there other gates that would bear guarding?

Right, forgot mercs didn't respect our soldiers. And we left the veteran ones back at the base because they could handle the mercs there. I assume, that's what I remember someone suggesting. Um, then us, Godfried, ten mercs, and, say, 3 Grenadiers? We have MASSIVE CHARISMA, so that should hopefully keep them in line.

In close quarters, spears become a hell of a lot more useful. Because guns are lethal because of, you know, the range thing. The british learned this the hard way a few times, and so did the American colonists during the Indian wars.

On the other hand we've got like, what, sixty dudes? And they have a few hundred? Let's hope that the sheer insult of the numbers disparity makes them decide to charge our sorry asses.

    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)21:23 No.6854540

OP said they have farms, which implies water supplies, so sieges are right out. And there's morale and initiative to keep in mind.

I mean I'd love to have six batteries of artillery to pound on their sorry asses with and do it that way, but I'd also like Lanoe Hawker piloting a DEATHBLIMPEN mounting reciprocating 250mm ENDTIMES cannons, so whatever.
    >> Victorian Revenge Some Steampunk Dude 11/24/09(Tue)21:24 No.6854552
Woops im behind on the times. The city is MASSSIVE. There is no way you could encircle it. The city is a series of stepped temples and residences leading down to something at the bottom. however the top is not covered, adn theoretically you could land at the bottom with an airship if you had such a thing

Now that we got the confirm, you proceed warily inside, with Godfried having a flare gun in his hands. You hear native shouting again, and the torches on the walls go out the second you step inside. The mercenaries are tough, so all your troops are fine inside. You see a pile of gold lying on the grounds in a side passage as you advance. And you see gold jewelry in a pile in one of the many halls. No natives yet. ORDERS?
    >> Researcher Sam 11/24/09(Tue)21:24 No.6854554
Well it is it's own city, and it was farms. I was under the impression they had some wells going, though since we didn't get too far last time, and our glider scout was captured/killed before he could get much, I can't be sure.

tl;dr- Seige is awesome, but they have self-sustaining city, we have probably not enough supplies to last more than a couple of weeks before we'd have to go back.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)21:25 No.6854556
we have the maxim with us? set it up in the jungle, but in view of the entrance, mow bitches down, also, im confiring the ambush, but make sure that we are firmly entrenched first, spears will be useless against entrenched british troops firing at them for a couple hundred yards away. also, secondary force patrolling for a counter
    >> Anonymous 11/24/09(Tue)21:27 No.6854573
in order to preserve farms, they need a water supply, and if our gliders can spot their farms, that leaves them open to firebombing from above
    >> Researcher Sam 11/24/09(Tue)21:27 No.6854575
Obvious trap is obvious. Point out that is prolly a trap, but say that if they want to go for it, the mercs can try to take it. We need to get those bastards out one way or another, and if taking their loot does it, then better to make sure it's clear that it's their own decision.

Well, the enemy has no more shields, right? And their 500 men are arrayed in front of us? I believe this is the part where our english MOAR DAKKA comes into play.
