    6 KB Dungeon Keeper Quest Part 2 Greed !!u95zbWX8j7r 11/27/09(Fri)12:56 No.6893700
    Last Thread:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/6879343/

This is a continuation of yesterdays Dungeon Keeper Quest, which had strong influences from both Overlord and from Greed's previous Forgotten King quests.

    -

You woke up... disoriented. No, that would be an understatement. There was a blade through your heart, not a regular blade but a paladins blade, it was... Torches lit the underground tunnels you were in. One of the blades runes was chipped, destroyed, decimated.... it was a weakness. You exploited it and converted into Into a weapon of darkness, of the shadow. Your weapon. Onto one of the halls you went, and found a treasure room. Inside you had an encounter, some of the gold fused together to form a Golden Minotaur, which was destroyed upon seeing one of the runes on your sword glow, this rune was different than the rest. It caused holy light to spawn when none existed inside of the blade. It was the rune of the forgotten king. The room contained gold, it was a delicacy... power. You promptly converted half of it into energy. Then came the goblins, They were in the room, just out of your limited sight. You felt them, and their leader... their leader... his laughing was immense. It came from above, it seemed the ceiling wasn't as low as you thought. He called himself Gorewarp. After a quick encounter with him, as he a lowly creature could hold his own in a fight against you, an avatar of darkness, you are sure he is more than he appears to be. He left three of his goblin friends behind when he fled. One of them promptly died when you interrogated him, the other two... you forced them to lead you to their home.

Right now you are at a large gate, perhaps 40 feet high, underground. It is of goblin craft, this you are sure. Next to you are the two goblins from before, they did not swear loyalty to you yet. There are goblins on the other side, possible minions...

    What do you do?

I like the idea of calling out Gorewarp to parley and share food/drink. He seems to be a pretty cool guy.

I was here at the last thread, hes probably in the caverns somewhere where he can't hear us, but then again he might be watching us closely.

Still randomly yelling for someone outside of the gate of some goblin fortress might not be the brightest idea.

    >>6893767
This, or send one of the goblins in to send word. Make sure he gets the message right--and polite.

Seriously, I think Gorewarp seems cool. If he wants to be evil bros, it would be pretty sweet.

You turn and eye the shadows from where you came. "Gorewarp, you out there?" That line itself didn't make you seem like an incarnation of shadow.
"Gorewarp I request an audience with you."

    Nothing.

    >>6893784
    >>6893767

You raise up your arm, which was clad in armor.

    Knock Knock

Nothing. No stir of motion, no sounds on the other side. How boring.

Do you send in a goblin? Or do you strike the door with a little more force to get some attention?

We are doing this the polite way so far. Because we are evil with *class*. And *finesse*.

If they do not wish to do this peaceably when offered the chance, we'll just have to go in and kill half of them to put the others in line.

"You" you say, and point to goblin closest to you. This is a scrawny one, easily scared even by goblin standerds. "Go in and get the gate opened..."

    "B-but--" He begins.

"Go." You say solemnly, trying not to give him a heart attack. Almost like you're tired of hearing their annoying bullshit.

It nods it's head, and goes on climbing the gate and the wall alongside the gate, It goes into a small chasm about 32 feet up.

10 Minutes pass and nothing happens.

You decide to man up. You lift your blade, and think of destroying the gate. The runes of Destruction, Chaos, and Vulnerability glow. You charge forward, and your blade slashes so fast you think it might have cut the air. It hits the gate, and the large doors of the gate swing back and forth, not quite breaking. The sound of wood cracking, how nice. You hear things, large wooden things collapse on the other side, perhaps supports. The gate is much weakened, one more strike would destroy it entirely.

Think we can get the thing open *without* totally smashing it? It'd be useful for keeping adventurers out later, once we've taken over. If so, do that.

If not, give it five minutes to see if that's attracted any attention in there.

You raise your hand to the gate and apply a small amount of force. It swings open as if it has never been locked in the first place. Your attack did more than it seems.

You walk in, and you see goblin village. 30-34 house, Made of stones, grass, and the tops of large mushrooms for roofs. The grass is blue in color. The town center has a fire, and you see chaos. Goblins left and right ducking for cover, a battalion of around 18 goblins with one larger one as their leader is grabbing spears at a nearby weapons rack. There is a larger, capital building in the center.

"It all..." He stops for a moment. "It all began many centuries ago... It was the prime of our civilization. We owned these tunnels, and many around all of existence. WE, were the dominant race. Then one of our kind... discovered how to slay gods. Our ancestors told him he was mad... he was insane. He would do nothing but evil to our kind! But he did not listen. He held our god hostage, threatening to use the secret he had discovered to slay him, but the god did not yield. He killed the god, and with him dieing, so did the second moon of this world. He went on for centuries, abandoning his body, he was a mere ghost, But an insanely powerful one at that. He would murder and cause chaos. Whenever he would kill one of our kind, he would steal the soul of his victim, It's what gives his laugh it's effect, when he laughs, every single goblin hes ever killed is forced to laugh through him. It's terrifying. The only reason he hasn't killed us all of, is that we... entertain him." He says entertain like he is being humiliated.

Well, first we get that gate up. Have some of the non-soldier goblins work on that.

Keep most of the soldiers here, with one of the skilled guys, and send out the others in two small scout parties, each led by another of the skilled goblins. Instruct them to stick together, but to flee back to here if they run into anything that wants a fight. They're scouts, not warparties.

We need to know more about the lay of the land, and what is happening in the dungeon at the moment. Speak with the elder on the subject of what the hell is going on at the moment. Forces presently in the dungeon, resources, et cetera.

Also, would probably be worthwhile finding out if we can gain mana via being worshipped by goblins. I can think of no easy way in which to phrase that request though. Seems kinda rude.

I'd say instead of doing a massive time skip that we be more active in power gain, minion gathering, etc. Only so much a goblin village can do, but if we get a few more, and some other minions, then we've got a serious opportunity for growth.

And a month? Screw that, we don't need such a big gate (unless they have a reason for it). It'd be faster to turn it into a wall and then make a smaller gate.

For the timeskippery: It'd be nice to see about getting some improved soldiers and better gear. Do we know anything at all about weapon/armoursmithing, and if so, can we use this to train up some goblin armourers/weaponsmiths and make up some better gear for our goblin military?

Also, have the goblin spearmen not presently out scouting involve themselves with training themselves up. Sparring and such. They can use long sticks instead of spears to avoid losing too many to that, but the experience will still be valuable.

Can we burn the blue mushrooms? Also, if they are causing negative effects in goblins, can we look into ways of producing poison from them? Since this seems to be causing problems with our labourers, we should mess around with them ourselves, since we're presumably immune to poison and crap.

Also, I'm guessing the Blackscales are highly unlikely to ally with us at the moment, seeing as we now lead the goblins. Possibly worth a shot, however. May be worth paying them a visit shortly and seeing if we can talk and/or slaughter them around to submitting to us.

    [Agriculture]
Second mushroom farm created for blue Mushrooms.
Green mushroom room is burned and re cultivated with Green Mushrooms, the blue mushroom problem seems to be subsided for now.
The Moon-Grass farm gives a good harvest this time around.

    [Training]
Your goblins in general get slightly better at combat

    [Forging]
The first useful spear is created. Sadly the rocks take long times to sharped into perfect edges for spears

    [Diplomacy]
A goblin convoy from the other goblin village has come to yours, they are asking for help to deal with their blue mushroom problem. It seems to be effecting them far worse than it is effecting you.

    [Shaman]
The Shaman discovers that mixing the blue mushroom and the blue grass over a fire, then adding in green mushroom at the end produces a poisonous gas. No-one was harmed.

    [Creatures Attacks]
The goblin that was turned into a statue begins to turn organic again. He is still alive.

Make it clear that they will *owe* us for this. The loss of our farmers for as long as it takes to remove their problem will be an issue for us, and this favour must be repaid. Those who refuse can be left to die. Those too insane to respond can be healed anyway, and we will *enforce* our ownership if they recover.

Most importantly is to send those goblins who wish to learn metalworking to apprentice under the master smith in the new village.

Attempt to keep the Moon and Sun grass in different fields for now. Don't let it grow together for the moment, we can investigate further once the Blackscales have been dealt with.

See about getting some bronze made up from the tin+copper in order to make better spearheads. Possibly armour for our 'commander' goblins and the guy who can turn stuff into stone (He could be useful).

Keep some of our sneakiest goblins watching the BlackScale camps. We'll go alone to the smaller of them (again using 8ft awareness sphere to avoid traps), and see if we can a) determine what they're up to or b) convert them to our minions.

    [Agriculture]
Moon Grass and Sun Grass are now in separate farms, This was very easy to accomplish compared to seperating Green and Blue mushrooms.
Green Mushrooms added to blue mushroom field to feed the blue mushrooms, goblins are getting skeptic whether or not you should keep such dangerous plants in close proximity to the village, especially the ones you cured.
You reinforce the farms of village 2 with your own mushrooms, to try and get it back on track again.

    [Metal]
Mining at village 2 has been a success and bronze is being created, very basic armor and weaponry is being made, though it is of low quality and quantity.

    [Workers]
Some goblins take interest in stonework, and begin working on it. Some other goblins take interest in metalworking. Because goblins from village 1 are learning from village 2, village relationship increases.

    [Convoy]
A convoy is being prepared, what do you and who do you take with you to go meet with the blackscales?

    [Monster Attack]
The one who can turn things into stone is becoming a StoneWorker, and is going a bit mad with power and skill. He is quickly becoming the wealthiest goblin of all of them you control.

My opinion is that the BlackScales are the ones planting the new crops in our fields. Especially the blue mushrooms. In doing so they have unwittingly given us a powerful weapon.

If we contain some of the shaman's recipe in a bag and douse it in some flammable sticky substance (tar if we have it) we have something better than slinging stones. If we light it just before throwing it we can essentially make poison grenades.

My lord, if we begin to stockpile these then the conquest of the BlackScales will be significantly easier.

When we do conquer them, I suggest keeping a group of them hidden in the goblin villages. Blind them, make them mute and deaf, then use them to produce their poison.

"Finally, some action" you think to yourself. Staying behind in your village, although interesting, was getting rather old quickly. You, wish a group of 10 goblins head to the BlackScales encampments.

After a few hours you can see their gates, so you start your poison bonfire.

How do you approach the gates? Just normally or do you take special action? Do the 10 goblins come wth you?

Good idea. Have him work on the fortifications first (not the gates, that'd bugger the hinges and probably make them fall off, defeating the entire point, but everything else.) Then the houses. Have him move back and forth between the two villages as required. Make it clear to him that this is a service directly for you, and while his talent is valuable, he is not irreplaceable. Should help keep his ego in check a bit. Don't want him picking up delusions of grandeur.

I feel the Stonegoblin should have more responsibilities laid on him. Grant him noblehood and a command. He'll readily accept this. But let him know that his command will carry duties. He should be brought to the assault, and used to turn Blackscales to stone in case our Great Leader's diplomacy takes a turn for the worst. His command should be built up of your most loyal stoneworkers and soldiers, and keep him far enough that when he turns on you you'll be able to get warning, but close enough that he won't do too much damage before you put him down.

Also, you can give him a Grand Project to create a cavern for the blue mushroom farm.

For the farms, seek a natural cavern with lots of bats. Harvest bat guano for fertilizer, and hunt bats for meat.

I suggest putting up any defensive barriers that we can, provided they don't take too much power from us. We're evil, we know people hide their true strength and that we are supreme. Our knacks are always correct.

We must step lightly, but ensure that we impress them kobolds. Offer them peace and equality with the Goblins under our command. Offer them the ability to grow as a single nation of the Underdark. Let them know that if they serve us they will be part of an Empire to reign a thousand years. Slaves, resources, and food will be plentiful. Then warn them that if they do not accept that we will leave them in peace for now, but come back to take them by force.

    [Agriculture]
The Green mushroom's quantity has stabilized, while the blues is dwindling again.
The Sun and Moon grasses are growing closer and closer, the goblins have had to resort to cutting the buds early to keep them separate.

    [Construction]
The goblin with stone touch has begun to do as you requested, and all of your buildings have become more stable. However they became less cosy- The moon grass roofs were unstable, but were a very welcome addition to the rather bland houses.

    [Mining]
A new crystal has been discovered to grow in the mines of Grubshire, It glows yellow. It seems harmless enough, and the minors have already harvested some of it and sent it to Gravenhell.

    [War]
Blackscale scouting parties have been spotted all around your villages... they are watching you closely.

    [Exploration]
Your scouts have discovered a basillisk den to the north, right on the path between the black scaled and Grubshire. The minors of Gravenhell have dug farther east and have discovered the crystals as mentioned before.

    [Shaman]
The shaman has passed on from old age. His apprentice has not learned enough to take over the role fully, but he knows some. Your people will have a much harder fight vs diseases now.

Ready the military. If a runner has been taken, and scouts are in the vicinity, we must be prepared to make war.

Send armed parties to alert the other villages. Double the guards, then bring the remaining warriors to Gravenhell where you are. Ready all implements of war, and send out picketers to hide in tunnels and ambush scouts.

Once all of the preparations have been made, strike hard and fast against the BlackScales. Take prisoners, especially the mage if you can. Attempt to leave the city as intact as you can, using two volleys of poison bombs to clear the streets before the assault. Since the stonecrafters don't have time to build a battering ram, you're gonna have to break down the gate.

The stonegoblin should use his powers on the Kobolds in the ramparts, and cover the Gobbies as the scale the walls. Once the gobbies hold the wall the stonegoblin must scale it to overlook the battle and continue to support from there.

We can provide direction for our troops, and seek out the mage from there. Once the mage is discovered we will begin to lead from the front, overwhelm him and force a surrender. If the kobolds are unwilling to surrender at that point, it will be all too easy to slaughter the remaining resistance and enslave their women and children.

The only problem I can find is that they are both strongly good and strongly evil. Should they have paladins, which is unlikely, they must be dealt with swiftly. If they have some kind of evil spirit, like the guy we've been fighting periodically, we are likely to be routed unless we can break his influence.
