LATER THAN ADVERTISED BUT HERE NONETHELESS

THIS IS NO ZAKU GENTLEMEN, NO ZAKU

Previous threads to be found on sup/tg/ (when it's working again)

You are Liuetenant Junior Grade David Lister, ace pilot for the Principality of Zeon. As part of 321 Company you are stationed at California.

Prior to this you were part of Mastodon Battalion, a decoy unit sent to draw federal forces away from America and into middle america ahead of the invasion.
The course of which you ended up with more kills than god.

    THE STORY SO FAR

After being sent to Arizona to find a missing supply train, you discover a secret Federation facility, and recapture your missing train and it's crew.
You then ambush five stolen Zaku's accounting for four of them.

You have Jolyne hold back to load captured Federation MS Prototypes onto the train whilst you go and persue the lone survivor.

THERE WAS SOME DISCUSSION ON WHETHER OR NOT TO HAVE JOLYNE ESCORT THE TRAIN OR MEET UP WITH YOU AFTER SHE LOADED THE PROTOTYPE, I'D LIKE A DECISION EITHER WAY ON THAT.

Mission was to recover the train, so seems sending her to defend/run off those three on fake patrol would accomidate that. Us and Zol can handle the runner.

It seems dangerous, but I'm okay with this.

She needs to make sure to keep her sensors scanning. Anyone who comes within range, she needs to order to keep away or be fired upon until they reach command. Any Zeonic forces should comply. Feddie forces can be blasted with her long range artillery.

Meanwhile, we, with our badass suit, and Zol, with his mountains of bullets, will chase this last suit down.

Using sensors on the train will be difficult, the Minovsky particles will be restricting radar, sonar wont work on the train, and thermal optics aren't going to be much use a 2pm in Arizona.

They'll be relying on posting spotters all over the train and watching for bandits - oldskool style.
Jolyne is confidant that she can do this, and you salute each other as you begin to persue your quarry.

    IT IS CURRENTLY 2PM.
YOUR TARGET HAS A 1 HOUR HEAD START
    TRACKS ARE STILL VISIBLE.

Also, when they get back to command, they've got to give them the coordinates for the facility. Zeon HQ will want to get their hands on the zakus + check out the facility in depth.

Use jet thrusters sparingly to get bursts of speed in following the tracks.

He was already burning through his pretty fast, and they'd probably be damaged if he'd kept it up. We know the capabilities of our suits, and can use the jets intelligently. It should help us cut the distance.

Using your thrusters (of which you both have better versions of.) You begin carefully leapfrogging across the terrain, to try and close the gap.

A couple of times you lose the trail and have to follow back to refind it. He's taking an erratic path, sticking to cover, trying to stay out of sight.

As you continue onwards in this fashion, the terrain becomes rockier. It wouldn't really be safe to keep jumping the way you are. But by following his tracks you can detirmine the following things.

    1. Whilst he can still jump, some of the jet's must be damaged as he isn't getting the full distance.
    2. He can only jump backwards or forward.
    3. The tracks are fresher, your getting closer.

    It is 4pm.

You bring the maps of the local area back up on your monitor. Apparently if you keep going in the direction your heading, then you'll end up in great big canyon that extends for miles.
It's a fair bet that the pilot you're hunting would head there to hide out.
For a start, minovsky particles would collect at the bottom, further retarding radar. It might be cool enough for Thermal Imaging though.

The two of you carefully descend down into the Canyon. You are constantly on the look for ambushes, traps and signs of your quarry.

Descending down takes the better part of an hour.
You switch to the thermals when you reach the base floor. You scan for clues, you can't see any suspcious heat signatures, and sonar has nothing.
At the base, radio is retarded to a crackly 500m range.

You can travel up or downriver. Your choice.

You scan the less immiediate area for footprints of some kind. This section isn't too windy, so if there are any then they won't have deteriorated.

Twenty minutes later you eventually find a Zaku type footprint, heading downstream.

You follow carefully down the canyon. There are plenty of spots for ambushes, and the rocky terrain would make for dangerous traps.

After about an hour of following footprints, you pick up something on the floor which reacts with your thermal sensors.

You fire off a single Bazooka shot directly ahead as cover. The force of it's wake clears the dust momentarily, and you're afforded a brief view of the Zaku moving forward to investigate. The rocket zips past his head unfortunately, but then hit's a rock pillar behind causing it to collapse showing the area with yet more rocks. You see him attempt to jump away, his leg rockets pulsing at less than optimal amounts.

You charge forwards your saber out, with Zolomon behind you with his twin Hawks. You don't to risk starting another rockfall.

You nimbly managed to jump over what looks to be a severed Zaku arm, still sparking from it's power cabling. Your Sonar is still kind of disrupted from the rockfalls, but your thermals show a muffled image of a hot object overstraining his thrusters as he attempts to leapfrog away.

It looks like he's trying to climb over the canyon wall and escape into northern Arizona.

You have Zolomon use his rifle, ( the head vulcans are out of range) to try and distract the target.

You then leap above through the dust. You land semi-awkwardly, but retain your balance your sight of the target is obscured by the dust and the heat from Zolomon's fire and you jump a second time.
The struggling suit see's your advance and tries to fire at you whilst he jumps backwards to escape. The fire is suprisingly accurate, and you have to block it with your shield.
The impacts knock you off target and you land badly. The ground gives way and you stumble about twenty meters before your able to use your jets to stable yourself, they protest but take the strain.
Meanwhile you spot the one armed Zaku fly back and over the lip of the canyon, it's boosters flare ever brighter before you're able to visibly see it's boosters melt away and give out. The Zaku falls to the ground out of sight.

Zolomon begins to follow you up.

You Jump over the lip of the canyon.

On the other side you are greeted by the image of another Gouf A with the same colour scheme. You quickly realise you are looking in your reflection.
From the looks of it, several hundred shards of giant mirror dot the landscape. It looks like a large piece of the Colonies Solar Panel's shattered over this area and have decorated the area in giant reflective surfaces.

You move to investigate, and you find the area where your quarry landed. You see a disconnected leg mounted rocket launcher. It was probably jarred loose when it landed.

You both dash forwards and hurl a cracker grenade at the ambush site. Before they even have a chance to go off, you fire another shot with your bazooka. You see a giant, almost monolithic shard of mirror ripple obscenely before shattering into hundreds of SUV sized shards.
You dash into the confusion and both of you pick your targets. The shards have done no damage to the armour, but there are more than a couple of severed power cables snapping in the 6 o' clock dusk.

You spot the wounded Zaku kneeling, it's cockpit open. It looks abandoned.

You slice at the nearest enemy with your Saber. He tries to parry with his axe, but with his power cable snapped his arm doesn't have the force to deflect you. Instead he manages to move into a clinch, your sword arm is jammed upwards against the two of you and he attempts to throw your suit around.
You twist around in a strange 18 meter hoe-down.
Your Cockpit is getting dangerously hot from having the Heat Saber so close and you consider deactivating it.

You twist around a second time, the spilit second which the wounded Zaku explodes in a massive fireball.
A moment sooner and you would have taken the full blast, instead the Zaku you're fighting takes the brunt, and your able to push away from it. Just as it explodes.

Unlike before, THIS explosion you take full force. The arm you were pushing him away is englufed in the blast, and you are knocked flat on your back as your computer sputters and screeches at you with the damage you've taken.

General consensus is to return to the Secret Feddie base I take it? Possibly taking a few minutes to shake out fist in the sky and howl:

"NEXT TIME WYATT BANDIT! NEXT TIME!"

make sure to bring our arm back with us though. We could still use it. Or keep it as a memento.

Let us return to the previously hidden Federation base, after bellowing about how things will be different next time.

The arms actually pretty much totally shredded. You are able to save the actual blade part of your heat saber though.

    BEFORE I FORGET: ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED

You two begin the long trudge back to base in the failing light. You notice your thrusters being a little sluggish, as you leap across the Grand Canyon, though it's nothing too serious.

Your trudging pace means that it takes you a little longer to reach the base when you do so, you notice that it's been lit up, and showing new signs of life...

Luckily as you get closer, you spot the Zeon Flag flying from the towers.

Still wary you cautiously advance towards the base until you spot the train has returned, and jolyne's Zaku Cannon.

You stagger back to the base to be greeted by Jolyne out of her suit and drinking a cup of coffee (probably, you're somehwat wary about zooming in too far into Jolyne's chest area. It could end in misunderstandings later.)

You deposit your mobile suits in the captured hangars and dismount.

Jolyne tells you what's been happening since you left.

"We dropped off what was left of the Zaku's and the Gun... tank... thing... whatever, at the 128th. They then got a squawk up to HQ, and we got sent back up here. Were to load up with anything we can find, and then return to the 128th *sigh*, pick BACK UP the prototype and transport it back up to California. The train will be our ride home. In the meantime were off duty, and I for one could do with some sleep."

For the start of the next thread, make sure they gather the combat data + coordinates of what went down so they can clean up.

Possibly tommorow. I'm playing Apoc from 10am onwards instead of VtM tommorow, it really depends on how soon it finished.
It also depends on whether or not we agree to houserule away flank march - so (unlike last time) we don't get an entire apocalypse game consisting of the posted pic.

Especially when some of these units appearing in the opponents rear included COBRA SUPERHEAVIES AND A TITAN.

No offense OP, but it does seem like some bullshit when you keep having him escape rather than using good strategies suggested.

    Haha.

We need to make sure an airborne force is sent out to scout the areas north of the Grand Canyon. Is it possible to get spyplanes or a cruiser in orbit to get some up to date images of most of Utah?

Also, with the Feddies cracking our cockpit systems, is there any danger of our Mobile Suits being remotely hijacked with a lasercom databurst?

    I like imagining this.

Glorious Hero of the Imperium of Man: Haha, fowl xenos! Behold! For with our clever human thinking and resourcefulness, where we were once in front of you, we are now in your rear! Prepare to taste the Emperor's sweet minty wrath!

Fowl Xeno of Xenos Incorporated: Ah ha! Fool! We had expected your human thinking and resourcefulness, and had counted with our own, more advanced xeno thinking and resourcefulness! For now while you were once in front of us, and now behind us, we are now behind you, expecting such a trick! Feel the wrath of our advanced xeno technology!

I doubt it. It'll be days until he's got a combat unit put back together again let alone more than 1 Mobile Suit. We'll be back in California having repairs done by then.

Fun. What do you play in 40k if you don't mind me asking? I did an entirely tank based apoc game today. Was pretty epic. Had like 15 people and a total of atleast 400 tanks/monstrous creatures/titans
