GENTLMEN, ONCE AGAIN, DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR ZAKU IS?

You are Lieutenant Junior Grade David Lister (you chose, not me) ace mobile suit pilot for the Principality of Zeon.

Together you and your squad from 321 Company kick all kinds of ass.

When last we left our band of heroes, we were currently stationed in the 67th Depot in Arizona, with a Shopping list of things to do.

I was going to start at six today, but since patching CoH: Opposing Fronts is such an ardous experience, you get it early.

On this subject, I reinforce my earlier statements that DoW would make the best platform for a OYW Gundam Total Conversion EVER. Battletech would be good too, but that's neither here nor there.

Here's the layout. The total time needed to finalise the Hildolfr totals up to two days. Checking out each of these possible hiding spot and getting back will take a day, each.

You have 5 days remaining, so you can do everything, in what order though is up to you.

Okay then. I am unsure about what we need to do for the test. Will a mock ambush be sufficient? If so, then Zolomon and Jolyne can hide using their camouflage while we act as the bait. Once we have it's attention, Jolyne starts shelling it from afar, and while it's pinned, Zol comes out and uses all his dakka to try to immobilize it by aiming for the treads.

Once that's done, it's mostly over since it can't rotate it's turret, right?

It's nothing quite so interesting unfortunately, you just need to work with the Depot's team to try and work out a decent itenerary for which tests are done when, and where, and on what. It's mostly filling out forms and setting up large target markers. It's just to get a decent test, you'd need about two days of work. You could do an hour here and there, but if you were also going to the possible ambush sites then it might impact on your sleep. You SHOULD be fine, but given that the 128th depot looks like it got taken out without the alarms going off...
    >> Researcher Sam 12/05/09(Sat)12:40 No.7014157
    >>7014109
Ah, I thought we would be coming up with ideas for the test itself. And I had no idea how to do that. In that case, let's take care of the test first; if the Feddies are planning an ambush, they might wait until the final days to get set up. Going to early might mean missing them.

Can yoou give us a description for each of the possible ambush sites so we can decide which one to go to first?

    There are three areas:

Another disused tin mine. Which would be easy enough to take out simply by collapsing the front entrence.
Hell, you could simply do it just to make sure.

A set of mountain villages with road access. Current intelligence marks them as unihabited due to being close to a Colony piece hit.

    Lastly

A former tank barracks. It was attacked and taken by Zeonic forces about a month ago, but after the forces moved on, it's possible that survivors moved back in. It would be obvious choice however.

You scan the area for enemy forces. There a plenty of places for tanks to hide, with all of these shanty houses, not so much for a Mobile Suit.

Infrared and Sonar pick up nothing indicitive of enemy forces. It doesn't mean that they haven't been through here though. You scan the area for tracks. You can see any signs of tank tracks, mostly tire using vehicles.

    >and we should remember that we're in occupied territory, so perhaps ditch the uniforms and try to pass as lesser Earthlings?

This would be advised. You've got a GREAT BIG symbol for why the people of this village should hate the Zeon right in front of you, it's probably not a good idea to reveal yourselves.

You check your cockpit, and discover the old Civilian clothes that you used back San Jose. Hell, the bloodstains probably wont even raise questions given the circumstances.

A contact comm with Zolomon reveals that he still has his. Though a little messy since he'd been using bit's of it as a grease rag. Jolyne of course does not have any civilian clothes in her cockpit.

Both of you step out in your old and must clothes. From what you've seen, you'll fit right in.

    You are currently armed with
    9mm Submachinegun
    9mm Sidearm with Silencer

    Zolomon is armed with
    9mm Sidearm
Sawn-Off Shotgun (you don't know WHERE he got this.)

You trudge into the village to investigate, spare backpacks with some MRE's and a short range radio that can communicate with Jolyne.

From the ground level the damage to the village becomes even more apparent. You cant see a single intact window, most of them are simply boarded up. Some are simply covered with plastic sheeting or rags.
From behind them you feel eyes peering at you.

You move to the nearest bonfire. There is nobody around, you see some muddy footprints of undetirminate age around the fire.

To the north are more ruined houses. The colony fragment looms apparent.

To the east is a Ruined house. It's door is broken in and it's windows boarded up. An attatched woodshed has it's doors open, it swings in the light wind with a eery creak. There are no signs of life.

To the West is a house largely flattened by a rockfall.

The living room has a broken television and slowly rotting floor carpet. The couch has been stripped of cushions, as have the curtains (assuming that those curtain rails were in use.)

The horrific smell of rotting flesh assaults you and a tide of flies flies past.
The smell you recognise as being the one you could smell as you went upstairs.

On the bed is the corpse of naked woman, you don't wish to get to close but it appears that she was raped and murdered. Flies are still thick in the area and you both quickly rush back downstairs and out of the house.

You head to the western house. The front door is partially ajar. Instead of pushing it open you carefully peer through the crack. You see a wire leading from what was probably the door handle. You get your knife and cut it.
You carefully prod the door open from the side. It opens without any traps triggering, you peer inside, it is dark and you are forced to use your flashlight. You find the booby trap. It appears to be a simple but effected wooden spike trap. A length of wood with several lethal spikes attatched put under tension and designed lash out when released. The wood has become slightly brittle and your able snap it and disarm it.
You enter the building, now wary for booby traps.
The whole house seems to creak, it is under a great amount of pressure already.

Most windows are blocked by stones and rubble. The stairs are too badly damaged to risk them. You can also see a small trickle of dried blood coming from their, implying that you probably aren't going to like what you find up there. Someone appears to have tried to clean it up at some point, but stopped before able to finish.

The living room has caved in, there is nothing of value here.

The kitchen door is missing, but you can see several food cans in various shelves. It looks like that this place hasn't been stripped simply due to the danger of collapse.

In the Bathroom you find a small shrine, with burnt out candles. Several hundred photos are here. Presumably of the dead.

You haven't travelled north into the village yet.

    >Check the shed, blow up the weapon cache we found and hope they don't got more?

You set the satchel charges for half and hour, that should be plenty, and carefully escape the basement.
    It creaks but doesn't collapse.
You leave and inspect the woodshack in the eastern house. The woodshack has been stripped of wood, you check the corners and then the roof. On it is black marker are the words:

    "Dig below this"

You remember seeing a shovel aside the shed. You retrieve it and begin digging, underneath you find a message inside a plastic bag. It reads:

"My name is Christopher Arno, Lieutenant in the Federation Army. The rest of my unit are in the house thee doors north. They are rapists and murderers, if you are federation: arrest them. If you are civlian, flee from here.
If you are Zeon: Kill them.

They broke into this house and murdered and rape the woman within, I was able to save her infant, but I don't know for how long I can keep him and myself safe, I am escaping tonight with him, and I hope that I can make the nearest town.

I have planeted explosives in the rockface above their secret armoury, hopefully this will bury it under stone and prevent them from using it for their own ends.

Not necessarily. Missiles come in sizes from tiny (http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industry/1286241.html) to HUEG (http://www.missilethreat.com/repository/imgLib/icbm%20comparison%20chart%20small%20labeled%20%20%20

Anyway the point here is the warhead used.
Stingers have 1kg fragmentation warhead deisgned to produce a cloud of fragments that would damage a plane flying through it, but won't harm anything heavily armored.
RPGs produce a jet of compressed copper that pierces through armour and produces a superheated spray of molten metals on the other side.

You wait for the Satchel Bomb to detonate as you carefully set up killing positions. A massive explosion follows. Several smaller landslides follow. You don't think that anything was seriously damaged, you could be wrong though.

Six men run outside, one of them dragging up his pants. You decide to be heroic and stylish, and read out Arno's letter first.

    You get to:

"If you are Zeon: Kill them...."

When you decide to introduce yourself.

"Hi. I'm Lieutenant Junior Grade David Lister of Principality of Zeon, the man behind you is my Petty Officer Ringo."

You take advantage of their momentary confusion to launch a grenade at them. Bodies fly everywhere. You finish those that survive off, apart from one.

Zolomon leaves to free the women whilst you have a chat with the survivor. You put two bullets in his legs before your convinced he's telling the truth. Last he heard on the radio, several of the scattered tank units in the area are joining up together. Building up momentum and taking out larger and larger targets. He doesn't know where they're based in or where they currently are."

Zolomon returns leading five women with heavily shellshocked expressions on their faces.

"This is bad shit, my friend." He says to you.

"Zol. I just tortured a man to death. Don't talk to me about bad shit. Let's just... just, get the hell out of here."

    YOU RETURN TO THE ZAKU.

The signals are intermittant and crackly due to Minovsky Particle interference, and it looks like they stopped taking down messages about a month ago.
There's a truck in the back, it appears fully fueled and operational.
You leave outside to be confronted by about ten people dressed in rags that disguise their features.

"Do I detonate the Booby traps now?" Comes the voice over the stolen radio, loud and clear.

"No. Wait until he's deeper into the field, maybe the others will move up as well." comes the reply.

What I see as the best course of action: Jol launches some heavy shells at the vibrations. We jump off of the ground, use some smoke to hide our group. We all hit the dirt, to avoid any fire coming into the smoke, and spread out.

It still doesn't sound like that good of a strategy, though.

Woo Zeonquest! I never get back from work in time to participate.

Suggestion for the next time we are sent out on a long patrol or other mission in the South West US. Bring an Airbone Warning And Control craft that can scan the surrounding areas from altitude and laser-com data to us. They would also be able to ping MS squads farther out and question if they're friendly or not. Even if they were feddies and ran, we'd be able to tell where they were going.

You do so. You don't hear anything over the stolen radio, so you assume that they aren't monitoring the frequency you're using.

A direct attack to start things seems most beneficial. If we hit those mines, then we've just removed some dangerous ground.

If we start it off with an attack on where we know something is, it tips the scale, even if it's a miniscule amount.

Remember, all we know is that there are some mines in front of us. We still don't know how many enemies are here, or where they are. We need to conserve our ammo and be ready to attack actual enemies.

I'm sticking with my original suggestion. And right before Jol fires, we speak into the Fed radio, "Die."

Reminds me of that exchange you had us give before.

    >"Die." you command.

You move to take a step forwards, only midstride to dash backwards. You pull out a cracker and hurl it at the minefield.

Jolyne begins shelling at the bunkers just as your cracker catches the entire minefield in sympathetic explosions. The fireworks and dirt plumes obscure the base and your radio erupts into chaotic cries. You and Zolomon charge forwards into the base, with Jolyne continuing to shell it behind you.

"Scramble! Scramble!" Comes the order over the radio. Numerous jeeps and light vehicles begin pouring out of the barracks. You pull out your 120mm and start bombarding them before they can get clear. Carnage follows.
Several RPG's start whizzing past your head, you leap on top of the bunker to get a clearer view and start firing at another group, they are less bunched up however, and your attacks are less effective, they begin popping smoke to obscure them from you.
You toss your last cracker into the middle. You are unsure of how effective it is, but you don't see any return fire.

A stray RPG hit's you in the back, your computer loudly complans as you rock forwards in your seat. Those RPG's lack punch, but enough will put an end to you.

You dismount the barracks and team up with Zolomon as use the concrete structures for cover as you attack from close range the enemy light vehicles.

After 20 minutes it's all over. Any fleeing units were taken out by Jolyne's long range fire, and the rest you took out yourself. In the confusion not one of them surrendered.

After carefully checking the base you are able to retrieve: 2X FEDERATION PAPERS

    Unfortunately there were no survivors...

"Shit. I forgot to say something witty." You comment.

Searching through all of the dead bodies wasn't very pleasant. You don't want to know what kind of mess a Zaku Shotgun makes of a person. You could definately do with a day of killing things that blow up and don't leave going messy bodies.
Or photographs of their sweethearts right there on the dash.

The Bunkers were stripped, but apparently being used by these Federation Guerrilla's to stage raids on friendly infantry patrols. Your pretty sure if you're reading the killboard right, then they also managed to take down a Zaku once.

Not a squad. Just a single Zaku. Enough RPG hit's at close range to a Zaku's rear armour could probably do it.

    >>7017880
    >Read the papers. THEN RTB.

The first of papers details new Anti-Mobile Suit tactics for infantry and tanks. It highlights your Zaku's weak rear armour, and advocates the use of swarm tactics as well decoys and booby traps. It's all sensible and effective stuff. You could probably use it for another briefing on surviving the Feds for the other pilots back at the Depot.

The second paper detail an attack the Guerrilla's were called in to take part in. Apparently several tank squads were called in as well.
It details the taking of a supply train, and how these Guerilla's ambushed and killed a Zaku I that was guarding it. It then details how the train was redirected to a disused Tin-Mine.

You return to base. This will take 5 Hours, it will be 5:30pm when you return.
