27 KB Freeplay RPG: Arabian Nights - I, Ninurta's Heir Original Plague Doctor !!JajszWhpsyf 12/12/09(Sat)21:40 No.7107651
In Mesopotamia king Ammurapi I rules. His brother, emperor Sin-Murapi I of Persia's soldiers have robbed the king's sorcerer for the war god Ninurta's cuneiform. Ninurta stand by he, who worships Him.
King Ammurapi fears that his brother will declare war on Mesopotamia, and will be one step ahead by stealing the artifact back. Sin-Murapi's army is big and strong, and with Ninurta cuneiform it is only stronger and more wicked than ever before.
King Ammurapi has drafted the entire country for military audition, only to find the best warriors, rogues and magicians to penetrate the dark walls of Persia and bring back the artifact before Sin-Murapi's power becomes too strong.

You are on a long journey from your home town Aqar Quf to the king's court in Babylon, the capitol of Mesopotamia. Arriving in Babylon, you realize nothing is vacant, and even if it were, you would not be able to pay for a night's sleep or even a bowl of soup.
It's late mid-day. A few streets from the agora, a drowsy grocer sits with his fruits and vegetables in the shadow of a small but sturdy clay building. The rattle of guardsmen's armour can be heard in the dust of the high sun. In the distance, supposedly from the agora, you hear children laughing and men shouting.

Your stomach gnaws at your insides.

You grab your straw flute from your small woolen pouch, which holds nothing but the flute and a "pretty rock."
You begin to play a cheerful song on your flute, dancing a bit around, dust whirling at your feet. The sound of your flute attracts attention from the agora and children are soon running past you in dance of joy. People throw copper coins at your feet.

You buy five figs at 3 copper pieces each, leaving you with 12 pieces of copper.
You move to the agora, and the children from the alley follow you lively, cheerfully asking you to play another song.
You spot a blacksmith. A quick look at his display reveals an apparently ideal dagger; a slim and flat bronze dagger with a red leather grip.
The blacksmith initially gives you the price of 17 copper pieces, but without a shaft, he will bargain for a mere silver piece (12 copper pieces).

Children are long gone. Most of the townsfolk are inside for supper.
A drunkard in a white tunic and purple turban staggers down an alley along with two less drunk men. The two laugh as they leave the white wearing one.
He walks down an alley and as soon as the others are gone, you feel your opportunity. Your silently wrap your scarf around your head to remain anonymous.
    Stealth d20: 15
You tippy-toe across the agora to the alley the man went down through. There he is, struggling with his sandal, mumbling loudly about stones inside his feet.
You grab him by the neck and holds his mouth shut as you hold your dagger to his eye and demand he give up his gold. The drunkard passes out, in shock or in intoxication you don't know. You frisk him and find his pouch. You also steal his turban, revealing a grotesquely ruddy, acne-ridden scalp.
You return to the shadows of your "hide-out" across the agora.
The loot is a fine silk pouch with 4 gold pieces and 7 silver pieces, along with 2 small diamonds (possibly just crystals) and a piece of fine, purple cotton (turban, about 5" by 2").
The sound of guardsmen's amour rattling in the distance....

You hide your loot under your long, beigey-brown garments. Chit-chat is heard, subtle laughter. The guardsmen, you're certain, it's them.
You walk away as if nothing happened.
All shops are closed, most townsfolk are sound asleep, and so should you be; you're getting drowsy after a long days walk and work. Your stomach isn't fully satisfied with just three figs, though.

The alley you have entered has a small two-camel stable. No cattle, you sleep in the hay.
You wake up by a sticky sensation. You slowly open your eyes, annoyed by the strong early sun and the damp liquid, and you're looking a camel right into its mouth. You sit up in a spasm of surprise and the animal lets out a grunt of hot air onto your face. You sarcastically laugh at the animal and go wash your face in the water trough.
You taste the water. You're thirsty, and your sack is almost empty. You're hungry too, you notice when your stomach moans; the camel answers with a similar grunting sound.

    Sorcerers' queue (magicians)
    Warriors' queue (tanks and soldiers)

You stand in the foxes' queue and soon you're entering a large hall.
The hall is surrounded by guardsmen with swords and spears. Right in front of you is a tall throne, about 3 metres of stairs, and on it is the very king Ammurapi, sitting sludged over the armrest, resting his chin on his fist, obviously bored out of his mind.
On each of his sides are three scribers, writing down every word said. On a platform to the right of the scribers right of the king's throne is a man wearing a red robe with sapphire embroidered scarves. The man slams his oddly shaped cane into the marble floor, echoing a great implosive sound.
He says with a raspy, slithering voice "Sssstate your nnname..." and the ramble of pen on parchment flows whispering through the walls and up the beautiful golden dome.

"Very well," says the king impatiently, "on with it then. What are you good at?"
His deep voice rings through the golden dome, and every sound is followed by a skitter of inky pens like rats away from daylight.
The slither-tongued man on the right grabs his cane and knuckles the armrest of his chair. He leans forward in anticipation, a slight grunt-like sigh can be heard from his direction.

As soon as he is gone, he is there again, right in the middle of the hall. Standing before you, he speaks again; "Trick me, oh great trickssster."
By the end of the sentence, his cane, now a tall staff, is raised in the air. No longer is he just a man, but a tall brute, almost a giant.

"Guardsmen, take this noble lad to the dining hall. Hero strives not on honour alone!"

    Hawwa stil isn't budging.
Aharun on the other hand is more than happy to talk about himself and his heritage. "... blah blah, my father is the greatest village chief in the entire nation! Blah blah my sisters are the most beautiful women in the world, no man is good enough for either of them!" etc. etc., his attitude makes him seem very gullible; possibly why he became a soldier, since credulity and gullibility are the next best thing compared to actual bravery.
Ilyas tells about how he has fought in many wars without ever seeing the enemy. He claims it is easier to kill 'en mass' when you don't have to look into a dying man's eye. It is, after all, the window to the soul, and a suffering soul is no vision for the meek.
Ayov tells of how his village was once a dry and infertile wasteland until he, after many years of study, learned how to conjure nurturing water, and that it is now a fertile land full of the most exotic fruits and vegetables, with grass meadows year round. When you departure from the castle, Ayov is far into an anecdote of how he once summoned a 2 feet tall golem by accident...

It would appear that we have little choice but to head toward Libya-- I'd recommend following the coastline, though.

    You travel south towards Nubia.
Interested in any stops along the way?

I've always been a fan of Aegyptus. Perhaps a stop in a small trading village to ask about any rumors and the like.

    COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN
Now I've confused myself. Do you want to go to Libya (west) or Nubia (south) and either way, which way do you go?
    >> Anonymous 12/13/09(Sun)07:30 No.7114534
    >>7114520

Well, we have to go through Libya to get to Nubia, unless there is some way to cross the Red Sea.

I fancy a land trip through Libya to Nubia with a stop in Aegypt.

The map doesn't state any habours, but it does strongly suggest a certain trail.
    >> Anonymous 12/13/09(Sun)07:38 No.7114608
    >>7114565

Then we shall take that trail, stopping briefly in a small town in Aegypt to get the local news.
Although, perhaps a small modification of the trail-- staying near the coast is usually best for protracted desert-condition travel. Or at least the Nile.

Nubia through Lybia over Aegypt it is.
To restrict the gameplay, the travel from Babylon to Libya takes about two days.
    >Munchkinfact, Libya: Libya is inhabited by Semites and Libyans. Semites are monotheistic gypsies who have settled in Libya because of the nation's general hospitality. Libyans have a rich culture mainly evolving around agriculture and doing good deeds. Semites and Libyans have much in common, though Semites have a large sect with a darker twist to their religion; the Qaballah. The Qaballah practice religious earth magic of the most advanced kind, so beware not to upset a Semite; he can easily take his revenge.

You soon arrive to the Three Cities, the capitol(s) of Libya. Do you linger, if yes, where - or do you ride along?

Ilyas the warlock takes this opportunity to sneak off and see if he can learn some more magic.
Ayov the wizard says no and continues to retell the story of how he accidentally summoned a 2 feet golem.

    EIGHT HOURS IN THIS THREAD.

Fuck Libya, instead of this silly quest we should convince the others to help us assasainate the king of Aegypt, seduce his wife/daughter (killing any male heirs before then, of course) and become the new ruler of Aegypt. How is that for "helping" Mesopotamia?

The further into the Qaballah sector you venture, the smaller and darker the streets get. You pass by an oddly placed stable, "Sorry, people. No animals this far in." You're forced to turn back or leave your animals at the stable (free of charge).
Lots of antiquity dealers and curiosity and rarity stores around, cheap jewellery booths allover.
    Awaiting command.

Let's look in one of the smaller out-of-the-way but well kept antiquities shops.

Alright, I assume you park the camels at the stables.
You wander down an alley for a while when a store catches your eye. It has a wooden sign hung outside it; Schlomo's Quirkies. You enter. Mostly odd books and interesting minor mechanical devices. A collection of dried larvae, Asian swords and armours - inoperable from rust and decay, - shrunken heads etc. etc.
On the lookout for anything in particular?
    Awaiting command.

Ask Ayov of he can identify any enchanted weaponry.
Other than that, a spyglass could be quite useful.

Plenty of spyglasses, 6p a piece.
Ayov recognizes a couple of grimoires, even some he used himself. The Asian stuff might have been enchanted at one time, but not anymore.
Asking the clerk doesn't help, he only speaks Semician.
    Awaiting command.
    >> Anonymous 12/13/09(Sun)08:20 No.7115041
    >>7115019

I'd say we should pick up a quality reliable spyglass. Perhaps a spare, too.

See if Ayov wants a Grimoire to study on the road, too.

Also, do we have any idea where Ilyas has *actually* gone?
    >> Original Plague Doctor !!JajszWhpsyf 12/13/09(Sun)08:24 No.7115085
    >>7115041
No precise destination on Ilyas; when you parked the camels, you left his trail.
In the process of picking out spyglasses, Ayov stumbles upon a rather curious device; a red spyglass in an inch-long copper monocle. He buys this for 10p + another 9p for a good spyglass and a spare. He isn't interested in these particular grimoires.
    >> Anonymous 12/13/09(Sun)08:27 No.7115111
    >>7115085

Ask him what he thinks of the red spyglass-- it's properties and the like.
Also ask if magic would be able to contact Ilyas should they need to leave in a hurry.

And... hmmm... does the store have any mirrors? Signalling mirrors will be useful.
