You stand before the gaping stairs leading into the bowels of the Plateau of Leng. The air around you is stifling despite the cold. Ramiel walks to the edge of the stairs, peering down.
"We'll certainly have better luck down there than we have up here."

"Oh man, why did he have to say it like that," Garfield says.

Your face suffered a fairly painful, but shallow cut. Given your sanguinary abilities, you've supplied it with ample blood, and it's mostly scabbed over. You probably won't form a scar.

"Stay behind me," Ramiel says chivalrously, holding out a hand, drawing 23 and stepping down the stairs. You roll your eyes and follow, the low light of the sparse torches reflecting as a slight burnish on your blood armor, almost a blood carapace by this point.
"Your heart seems virtuous enough, for a woman, but I never expected to be allied with one as...aesthetically themed as you are," Ramiel says as you descend the claustrophobic, narrow stairs.

"Yes...?" Ramiel says, confused. "How did...you..."
He trails off as you reach the bottom of the ramp, which opens into a large chamber. Finally, there is a symmetrical arrangement of torches around the center, where sits a golden throne atop a raised platform of stone. Seated on the throne is a hunched, gaunt figure wrapped in robes of red and yellow silk. He stares at you from behind a featureless yellow mask. Further behind the throne you can see the cyclopean gape of a well, surrounded by altars stained red with sacrifice.

But in the story this guy was basically as close to an Elder Evil incarnate as you get, and the narrator escapes by running the fuck away. I'm not sure if you've linked him with Nyarlathotep, as is implies in the original story, or with Hastur, as is later established.

The domed chamber has become a cascading nightmare of flesh. The piper seems to be gone, though you can still hear the droning notes. What surrounds you is a pulpy amorphous mass of bare muscle, snapping jaws, tumorous pustules and unblinking eyes. You lash out as the closest flesh mass, your heated blood tearing a huge portion out of the meat. The High Priest Not to Be Described is the sole occupant of a remote and ancient monastery on the Plateau of Leng in the Dreamlands. He serves the Outer Gods and may be Hastur, the servant of the crawling chaos Nyarlathotep (or he may even be Nyarlathotep himself).

You barely hear him over that mumbling, babbling spitting screaming mouths that form by the dozens on the undulating waves of pus-slick skin, only to go drowning and shrieking back into the recesses of the cavernous tumors stretched taut like drums with fluid and flesh.
You hack apart a membranous wall of skin, trying to keep moving in the noisy warm wet labyrinth. Ramiel stays close, cutting apart the small snake-like tendrils that snap at you or the tree-trunk sized malformed arms that swipe at you.

    He chances a look down.
"I...I can't tell, it looks like it opens up at the bottom," he says, snapping back quickly to respond to a lashing tentacle.

    "Let's go!" you shout.
"Wait, what are you-" Garfield says, as you leap down the well.
You accelerate slower in your fall than you would have expected, and reach a speed that seems relatively slow compared to the fall you're experiencing. You hear the babbling and murmuring, and that hideous piping, fade away behind you.
Eventually, you feel your body enter cold liquid, splashing into it fairly easily. The shock of the cold is enormous, and you cry out, releasing several bubbles on air. Kicking to the surface, you realize that you are no longer in the shaft of a well, but on the surface of a vast body of water. Several hundred feet away from you you can see the promontory of an island, a rapidly-collapsing pieces of massive stone jutting out of the lake.

It's Blind Falls, or what remains.

You locate Ramiel, splashing in the water next to you.
"Are you alright?" you say, extending your wings and trying to pump out of the water.
"Yes...I'll be fine," Ramiel says, easily exiting the lake and hovering around you, cocking his head.
"Such demonic attachments, really..." he says, then, "You're too frantic, time it, move your whole body, with confidence."
You try to follow his instructions, and manage to lift yourself out of the water. The sun has set, and you cannot tell which direction the shore is in.

For some reason, I really like these "Hunker down and hide" moments in a campaign. Or what could turn into one, at least.

Find some shelter; preferably out of the lake with the damn kraken in it, but if we don't have the stamina, Blind Falls will do.

    Wonderful.

Alright, lift off, and head straight for Blind Falls. Try and get a vantage point. Nyarly might be waiting for us, so we don't want to stay too long.

If the top heads of Arkham were here, they might've left something behind in their...deaths.

Look for traces of them here. Tell Ramiel to stay back, and if he sees any of the shadows move, to take off and start flying as fast as he can in any direction. Do the same if we see anything like that.

    >> StonerDM !em3oEn8LAg 05/30/10(Sun)00:44 No.10147836
Proceeding to the remains of the island, you land for now to try and get your bearings. The water is misty, so your visibility is limited, and it's extremely cloudy, so it could be any time of day.
Blind Falls itself has been thouroughly torn to pieces. You can see the twisted exposed steel of some of its inner facilities, but most of the inside was dragged to the deeps by whatever vile beast attacked it; it may have been the same monstrosity you just fought. Ramial kicks a stone into the water.
"We should wait for the weather to clear," he says, hands on his hips. "I will commune with the Prime Shard, and attempt to divine its wishes. Perhaps after a time back in the waking world it will get a clearer picture of what we need to do."

    >End times, cause StonerDM needs to be up mad fucking early. At least you're out of the Dreamlands, though I got higher than I though I would, which limited the speed of progress >_> You guys still having fun?

Double aerial facepalm. Aaaanyway, i suppose our best hope of getting to somewhere useful by dawn is to investigate the island.

Also, now that we're in reality again, we should probably try to work on concealing the bloodrunes and redeye a bit, so whoever we meet doesn't call up the torches-and-pitchforks-mob.
