Just as I go to type this, my mother tells me she's found my 1990's Godzilla collection somwhere... score!

Anyway, you are still David Lister, ace mobile suit pilot for the principality of Zeon and leader of the Nachtmaren Unit.
We've largely come to the end of our current "Meet the Parents" arc that has ended in a Zeonic Civil war that was probably not ENTIRELY your fault.
At the end of last week you had just sought bloody retribution after Gihren Faction "Loyalists" destroyed the section Pezun MS research base that was testing out the MS-14 Gelgoogs and then made their escape.

Whilst two of the enemy Musai's and their full compliment of Mobile Suits fell to your now ridiculous firepower, the last one, presumably full of scientists, made it's escape.

Somewhat dejected you returned to Pezun.

When you return to Pezun, you and Ramba Ral take stock of the situation.
The explosion only caused minimal casualties luckily, as most of the Gelgoog team were Loyalist Faction, however the incident has ratcheted up tensions in the station which may make Station Head Commordore Zamza's proposed neutrality stance difficult.
Also, all of the Gelgoog data in Pezun including the prototypes and spare parts have been lost aside from your two prototypes and Ramba Ral's one.

Ramba calls you over the comm once you've taken stock.

"I think that Zamza might be leaning more heavily onto Kycilla's faction after this little stunt by Gihren's side. If he does opt to throw in with the Legitimacy, he's going to make himself a major target. I think for the time being me and my team will stay here, bolster their defences and give them a spare Gelgoog to try and reverse engineer."

You were supposed to be travelling back to america to make a full report to your CO Lord Captain Garma, and to take his girlfriend/fiance Icelina back home.

Given the situation you consider it best to travel back to America. You wish Ramba Ral all of the best and depart again from Pezun, promising to send Dr Katoki your combat data from your Gelgoogs when you get the chance.

Your ship, the Zanzibar Kai class "Outer Heaven" pushes on towards the American Drop Zone. As you check your Act Zaku for any niggles, Zolomon meets with you.

"Uh, so, that was a bit more eventful than I guess we were hoping huh?"

"... you do know that Understatement of the Year isn't an actual award right?" You ask.

"Frankly Zolomon, I can't really think of a way it could have been MORE eventful." Jolyne comments as she floats past drinking from a juice pack.

"How about: Giant Colony Sized Deathlasers?" Zolomon suggests.

"Don't even joke about that shit Zolomon."

About an hour later you make your landing in the Californian base. HeadQuarters for Zeons American front.
Garma's aides meet you the moment you set foot on the ground. As you'd expect.
Within 5 minutes you're standing in front of Lord Garma himself.

"What the hell happened out their David!?" He asks, losing his cool uncharactistically.

You can requisition marine mobile suits from the MSM development teams here in a California to replace with the Mobile Suits your currently transferring to your hanger.

    CURRENTLY AVAILABLE MSM
    Goggs (any amount)
    HyGoggs (3 available)
    Z'Gok's (any amount)
    Z'Gok Command (any available)
    Z'Gok E (1 available)
    Acguy's (any amount)
    Zock (1 available)
Plus all of the Jaburo attack suits that survivived from last time.

It's also worth pointing out that although the terrain is tropical, it's not full on aquatic, so land capable Mobile Suits and armours would still be viable if you wish to take the Googs, Tropens, Dowdages and what not.

Luckily Garma had already requisitioned the 3 Battalions he wanted for the second Jaburo attack WAY before any of this bruhah erupted, so you're solid there, and said teams are currently training up for the assault, with some help from your own combined arms doctrine which is getting around.

6 man team, all in Marine type mobile suits, you don't have an exact count of what type though. Their last signal was from 20 miles south of the town of Sao Felix in Brazil, which is deep in the waterways.
Cloud cover over the area has been heavy, and some monsoon like conditions have been prevailing lately, probably impeded laser communications, aerial recon reports heavy enemy air and ground patrols in the area.

Well we can assume they are following the waterways then unless they have tons of footslogging survivors from their ship (or any infantry that aren't dead).

We should look at the waterways around their last transmission and look for the ones that lead to Zeon turf eventually. Then out of those we choose the least likely for them to have taken since the Feds that are hounding them are going to put big fat patrols on the waterways they want to take since I doubt they want these Zeeks to get away.

Lets see how much of this list is irrelevent by the time I post it.

    ZQ To do list:

    BEFORE RETURNING TO EARTH
    1) Ensure Pezun Gelgoog development
    >Give one YMS-14 back to them if necessary
    >If they can complete necessary copy steps within 24 hours stay and take the suit
    >Otherwise get back to Earth ASAP

    UPON ARRIVAL IN NORTH AMERICA
    Talk to Garma about:
    1) Civil war situation & Tea cup
    2) Negotiation of truce Between Zeon factions until defeat of Federation
    >2a) Possible Assistance to Zeon forces in Africa against Trojan Horse
    >2b) Access to any technologies captured should Trojan Horse be disabled/destroyed
    >2c) Assistance of Girhen Faction for upcoming Jaburo assault
    3) Jaburo Assault planning
    >Marine & Kycillia Special forces secure beach head. Garma units clear AA defenses and initial surface defenders. Fleet from Girhen faction engages Jaburo Orbital garrison. Dozle conducts drop operations and special unit deployment.

    4) Discuss possibility of negotiations with General Revil for treaty with Federation. Zeon will abandon select Earth and space positions and in return will provide assistance removing Girhen holdouts from Earth.

After meetings with Garma find Char, put him aboard Madagascar in preperation to go after Trojan Horse. Unknowingly wait for hillarity to ensue

Dammit. Ral didnt come back to Earth with us. Ignore any parts following that refer to him.

    -Establish California Base experimental production.
We have no way of knowing if we'll be able to maintain continuous contact with Pezun. As they're already facing delays with the Gelgoog line we should do everything possible to make sure California base can produce them here.
    >provide a YMS-14 from our unit to California base techs to copy and begin a limited production run of
    >reccomend Midnight Fenrir for 1 squad of YMS-14's and single YMS-14's to larger front line units most likely to encounter Fed MS
    >Ral keeps his Gelgoog no matter what
    >Char should get the first Gelgoog produced by California Base (Could be a death trap, who knows.)

Before heading out to chase after the Trojan Horse or playing kill team on the Rio Grand line we need to conduct some eartside MS testing and familiarization of our new suits. The YMS-14 if there are any left, the Dom Tropical test type, Zaku FZ, and Beam weapons in general. Everybody should get some experience with using beam weapons before Zeon suits with them go into mass production. The same goes with hover skirt equipped suits like the Pezun Dowdage and Dom. Burnie and Calvin have never piloted them before, they should get some practice in now. Even Ral should spend a few hours practicing with the Gelgoog and maybe a Dom type just to get the hang of how they handle.

    Additional California base project proposals:
    >Improved Gelgoog shield with Luna Titanium bracing built using captured Fed materials (Destroyed MS) along with beam ablative layers.
    >Beam Chaff grenade for Zeon MS

Okay, back. So the plan is to drop out and infiltrate into the zone to try and find the missing team and recon data.

What's your plans for getting there in the first place, and extraction? Keeping in mind that it appears that this is where the Mashiba Team fell down as well.

I'm not really thrilled with it either but he does have a large portion of our space fleets. We need that firepower if we're to have enough of our guys left over to crack Jaburo's defenses. This is also an opportunity to bleed Girhen's forces against the Feds wich we'll need to do if we're to stand a chance against him later.
I figured we'd have his guys hit the orbital garrison a good 30-40 minutes before Dozle arrives and drops the Big Zam. (Please God drop the Big Zam.)

I assume we will be coming in from the North? We should probably get dropped by the OH near a waterway we think they might be taking and we follow it in with our MS. That way we are far enough from the crashsite that whatever took down their ship won't get the OH.

Once we have meet up with the stranded team we head Norhteast and try to reach a designated point to meet up with the OH. From there we either all load up on the OH or we move with the OH out of danger.

If they were Goggs, I'd agree, but we can probably combat drop Hygoggs and Z'Goks no problem. Hell, if a standard Z'Gok can perform suborbital with few mods, then combat dropping an E should be possible.

Still, if we want to perform the stealthy approach and save OH for the Jaburo op, we could try and requisition a Jukon or two, though we definitely couldn't take the Rhino then.

You might be able to make a HANO drop with the Z'Gok and definately with the Dom Tropens, but the Hygogg and the Zock are iffy.
A Low Altitude drop would work for sure though.

    >>10580435

True, but for the record, your technological advancement has been far head of what Zeon managed in Canon, that gives you a bit of leeway here. Also, whilst it reduces the amount of fleet and Mobile Suits you have, it has also reduced the area that you personally need to defend.

Well, unless I'm mistaken, Sao Felix is pretty close to the coast on a river, so it should be reasonably possible to drop our more stealthy MSM off the coast from the OH and swim down the river. What's the most stealthy aquatic MS, I recall one being mentioned as especially good?

Either way, place some communication relay gear as we go, if possible, and keep in contact with the OH that way.

If/when we find the team we call in the OH for a quick extraction. Clearly none of that will go as planned, but we should be able to deal.

What sort of expose to AA weapons would the OH (and us, during the frop)have at high altitude in that area, do we know?

Also, can the Tropens perform a HANO drop? I believe that the original Dom's couldn't, since they didn't have sufficient rocket thrust to suppose their hoverjets.

I'd be nice to go in with something like this

Us, Zol, Elaine in Hygogs/Z'gok E or something
Jol, Bernie in Tropens, since they're better for the tropical environment than the Dowadges, I imagine.

    >What sort of expose to AA weapons would the OH (and us, during the frop)have at high altitude in that area, do we know?

If we do it high and fast enough, some missiles is probably everything, they'd soon notice you though.
A low altitude nape of the earth approach would be stealthier but slower, and if you get spotted you could get trapped, surrounded and taken down.

Well I'm not at all sorry to be wrong about dropping Dom's, so I'll just leave it at that.

I'm pretty sure Calvin on the Flipper is doable, but with a Dodai has been vetoed.
We'll have him in a Hygogg instead.

You quickly pick your suits and brief the team on the mission. After making sure everybody knows what they've got to do, the Outer Heaven takes off at high speed, heading south east, reaching the Atlantic at about 3 in the afternoon.
The Outer Heaven continues to raise altitude and pick up speed as it curves around towards Jaburo. You breach the outer stratoshpere about 20 minutes later.

An hour later the ship begins it's run and dives at speed.

As it descends on Jaburo the red light turns in the hangar turns on, and you all take up combat stations, and mount up.
Outside, the Jaburo defences launch a barrage of high speed heatseekers at your vessel, 30 or more white streaks reach out towards the supersonic warship, which uses it's VTOL thrusters to scissor roll missiles flail behind him, shot off lock.

The second salvo launches in front of the ship and it brings itself level and performs a high speed Viff.
The jump horn sounds in the hangar as you're pushed forwards as the ship sheds speed with incredible force.

The doors open and the six of you practically hurl yourselves out into the evening sky.

Above you, to mask your drop, the Outer Heaven launches a pair of flare launcher/minovsky projector pods that disrupt the enemies lock as the ship banks away.

You stare at the onrushing river for about 15 seconds before swinging upright and hitting your thrusters.

There's an almight splash as you all hit the water and sink down into it's depths, you call for a status update from the rest of the team.
After getting an affirmative from them you stealthly reach up to the bank, and once you clear the surface.
Launch a Laser Communications beacon into the ground.

"Lister to Outer Heaven, Lister to Outer Heaven, do you copy?"

Aye. I've noticed in your threads that it doesn't matter how many resources we stockpile, or which route we take, or how many allies we accumulate, or what mobile suits we use, or what tactics are present. We always fight something of appropriate difficulty - which sort of makes all the planning irrelevant.

It happens a lot in quest threads (about the only one that DOESN'T fall prey to it is LordQuest); anything Abstract has no effect on the protagonist's power level. Having a team of elite scientists working night and day on a project you assigned them is as good as having them all jerk off nonstop for a month.

It's one of the largest (and in my opinion, THE largest) downside of freeform roleplay - you just don't get power upgrades for the stuff you do; the DM feeds you upgrades and appropriate enemies. While there's no risk of being outmatched or underpowered, there's also no possibility of becoming super-powered and stomping everything - the protagonists' asskicking ability is psychological only, as they'll ALWAYS be put up against foes that are an equal match for them. You might as well not even try.

I think the general gist is to take the river route.

Using the twisting waterways, with the Tropens rushing on the banks, your squad carefully make your way through towards your target.

"Commander, I have a sonar target ahead, looks like 2 barges, heavily laden, could be goods transports, could be gunboats..."

    "How far ahead?"

    "Just past this next bend."

The Tropens carefully hide within the trees just in case.

I dunno, there's some times we've been outmatched, or took a wrong route in Zeonquest, and other times that we've split up the group in a good way, or done something else clever, and steamrolled the opponents.

I won't say there's not some level matching going on, but you have to admit the general arc of a conflict is more or less influenced by what we do.

Tropens go first and then aquatics ambush any MS that pop out to protect the barges.

Anything that can't be measured in terms of numbers is forgotten. That's what I don't like about freeform. Every single problem has a challenge-appropriate solution so you might as well not even TRY to raise your asskicking ability; you'll always have the same chance of winning.

When I DM, I assign myself a resource pool and try to beat the players down with it, and the players similarly try to survive using their own resources. Eventually ONE of us gets ahead of the curve and wins. I like the idea that, if you slack off, you can fall behind the curve and get your ass kicked by everything; but if you work hard, you pull ahead of the curve and kick everything's ass.
That dynamic is missing from a lot of places where hard work doesn't pay off as much as it should.

For instance. In this quest, for all this talk about Lister's combined arms strategy, is it having any in-world effect on the Rio Grande line? Do our forces shoot any harder? Do enemy forces become any weaker? I'd have to guess "no", and that makes me sad, because a military doctrine should have effects on the gameworld that can't be expressed in terms of Beam rifle shots or White base kills.

Taking care, you let the two barges pass overhead. Hidden in the jungle, the two Dom Tropens watch the barges pass by. When they've moved far enough, you resume moving.

You have the Dom Tropens leave some grenades in choice spots in the wreck as booby traps, as a marine suit you don't really have anything else that would work.
You do wonder about where the Feds are if there's a wreck here.

"So we've got the data, you think we should signal the Outer Heaven and head back?" Jolyne asks.

"No, we were sent here to rescue a team, and that's just what we're going to do."

"We still need to get the data back to the Outer Heaven." She reminds you.

You decide now is as good a time as any to give the Laser Comm Network a go.

"This is Nachtmaren 1 to Outer Heaven, Outer Heaven are you receiving?"

There's a short delay, but eventually you get a reply.

"This is Outer Heaven, reading you clear." Anita responds.

"We're at the Marlene, and we've retrieved the Black Box, were transmitting the contents to you now."

You begin downloading the relevant details through the network. Your onboard software estimates 5 minutes before the download finishes. Man, you knew the bandwidth was low but...

Things get bad when Calvin reports that sonar is picking up another barge heading downriver towards you.
The good news is that you can moves somewhat and not lose connection, and that they're approaching from the side where the Marlene will be blocking line of sight. The bad news is that you can't dive underwater, and damage to your suit could easily disrupt the connection.
Hell putting too heavy a strain on your energy output could do it.

    YOUR ORDERS?

If we have any camo cloaks or debris we can use to block the barges line of sight on David then do that.

Everyone else gets in position to ambush the barge the moment it acts flaky or dares to lower a landing platform.

Tropens shoot first and then aquatics suprise from the water. I trust the team to protect David while he transmits.

move to the other side of the marlene, all suits crouch/go prone and shut down all nonessential systems/lights

Have david shut down as well, leaving only enough power to transmit.

wait for the barge to pass.
On a side note, I have an idea

maybe we have the doms look for the survivors, and the aquatic suits head upriver and wait. When the doms start to extract with said survivors, have the aquatic suits attack a barge or two, real loud like, and then head downriver to the sea (or at least real far away)

    y'know, a diversion.

OH picks up doms, and then rendezvous with the aquatic suits at a later time.

The problem with moving into the treeline is that you could disrupt your laser comm quite easily with a tree or something.

The Dragdown could easily work though.

Okay, you take up a semi safe position near the top of the wreck, where hopefully you won't be noticed. Meanwhile the rest of your team take up ambush positions.

As the barge glides around you see the two GM's aboard scan the horizon, carefully looking for enemies with their 90mm Machine Guns.
Suddenly, there's a plume of spray from the barge as it is drug under water, you see men run and dive into the water off the sinking brown water vessel.

The GM's aboard the barge fire a burst into the waters and then leap off a pair of 880mm rockets streak past where they just were.
Beam shots lance the barge and it explodes in a plume of smoke.

Both GM's have leapt onto opposite banks, and fire a burst of fire on the move into the trees to try and suppress the Dom Tropens whilst they continue to run.

You see another one of the Hygoggs surface, take a firing position on the Marlene and fire off a shot from it's Beam Gun. The shot grazes on of the GM's legs shredding armour plating and in response it darts into the jungle.
Meanwhile another HyGogg surfaces and fires a spread of Torpedoes through the air at the other GM, which dodges out of the way and hits him back with a burst of his machine-gun for minimal damage.

The GM then retreats into the jungle on his side as well.

    Elaine it is then.

You emerge from the river to meet up with Bernard in his Dom Tropen.
"You see where he went?" you ask.

"Yeah, he's leaving a trail, but he's watching his back, I caught a couple of bullets on the left shoulder. When I got to close."

"Don't worry about it, that's what the pauldrons are for. I've seen Zolomon shoulder ram a GM clean through an apartment block before."

    "Pol-what?"

"Pauldrons, that's the name of thos shoulder armour plates you... look let's just see if we can get after this guy."

    "Right."

The two of you advance through a fairly easy to follow trail. The Dom Tropen skims ahead, whilst the somewhat slower HyGogg has to shuffle about on it's stumpy legs behind.

"I can't see him up ahead, you think he doubled back?"

"If were lucky. Otherwise he's setting up an ambush up ahead. Pull back will you? I can't keep up on land."

The Dom Tropen pulls back to you and suddenly there is an explosion from under it's foot as an impromtu landmine explodes. The Dom Tropen is flung over on it's side, tossing it's Raketen Bazooka.
You see the GM rise up out of the tarp it was covered with and toss a grenade your way.
You casually bat it aside and jump headfirst into his midsection the two of your roll over in the dirt and he grasps at your claw hands as you spray with beam fire randomly. The GM then tosses you off knocking you head over heels.
You distinctly remember seeing one of your beams slice off an arm, and by the time you pick youself up, he's already gone.

    "Bernie, you okay?"

"Yeah, I guess, the suits pretty totalled though the entire leg is gone. I'm going to have to self-destruct and double up in your cockpit."

    ZOLOMON

Using your arms like a Gorrilla to pull you about at speed in what is to an observer a highly disconcerting display of Mobile Suit control.
You have an urge to see if you can swing from tree to tree with your extending arms as well, but you doubt they're big enough to support your weight.

"Come on, I think it went this way." Jolyne tells you as you both continue your pursuit.

Travelling at best speed, following the trail, you nearly lose it a couple of time as the GM doubles back every so often, but it doesn't really have the time to do it properly.
From up ahead you seem muzzle flare and Jolyne's Dom Tropen casually leans out of the way at the last moment.
You raise your arm to respond.

"No, don't alert the guy, flank round, I'll keep him distracted." Jolyne states.

    "Right!"
You see Jolyne squeeze off a Panzerfaust in return fire as you quickly loop round, practically careening through the trees. Which is probably why it's not taken by suprise when you burst out on it.
You flop to the side to avoid the bullets fired in your direction and then leap at the GM your arms outstretched firing beams. The GM backpedels away, and your claws grasp at it's shoulder pauldrons ripping them away.
An 880 flies over it's head, reminding it to send supressing fire back with it's head vulcans.

Your heat claws lash like snakes and shred the weapon in a two handed strike. Stylish, but unfortunately momentarily obscure the enemy from your view, allowing it to draw it's Beam Saber unseen, you barely have an instant to respond as it slashes horizontally, and you slam the Aquatic Travel mode button.
The HyGogg slamms into the dirt like a grounded fish and you swing the mono-eye behind you to see the saber directly above you prepared for a coup de-grace.

A few seconds later your system reboots itself.

    "....can you read me? Zol?"

"Yeah I hear you, what happened?"

"I tried to hit it's arm with an 880, and the blast was a bit too close."

You get up, and re-check your sensors. There's grey everywhere and for a second you think it might be a camera error.

    "He launch smokes or something?"

"Pretty much, there was a fair amount of dirt and smoke from the initial blast, so I didn't notice until about a second later. I'm not getting any reading on Infra-red or sonar. On the plus side, I'm pretty sure I can see bits of the guys arm so he should be unarmed."

"You think we should get back?"

"No point in lingering I think."

You pick yourself up, and make your way back, carefully watching for further traps.

RECON DATA HAS NOW BEEN UPLOADED.

Regroup and start searching for the survivors. We aren't going to have a lot of time since these jokers got away. Hopefully if any of the Marlene guys survived they can cover for our lost MS. If we can't find them before the air patrols start converging on us we bug out.

Sucks to lose a Tropen but there it is. Fucking aces.

After making sure the data is uploaded you wait for the rest of the team. You've heard a couple of explosions already, hopefully you're team is returning with positive news.

A somewhat damaged trio of Mobile Suits return about a minute later and give their reports. Seems that these new suits were pretty good, but it more sounds like they had good pilots familiar with the terrain.
There's no helping it, but now you're going to be working to a deadline, the quicker you can rescue the Recon team, the less time the federation will have to set up a proper dragnet.

You haven't actually gotten to their last contact point yet, so quickly travelling overland and river to that location seems to be the order of the day. Since most of the patrols appear to riverbound barges up in this part of the base area.

The 6 of you make best speed over mixed terrain keeping a look out for enemy sentries and foxholes. Twice you come across enemy lookout posts and are able to silence them before they are alerted to you, or divert away from them completely.
By 7 you make it to your destination.

The area has a lot of tree cover, and a more extensive search reveals a Laser network beacon, with a run-down battery that Elaine says she can replace with 5 minutes work.

    You give the go ahead.

After some quick work, you're able to get a signal from the laser network and you patch it in with your own.

"Hello? Is anyone receiving on this network? This is Commander David Lister of the Nachtmaren Unit, Is anyone receiving?"

There's silence for a few seconds, and then a reply.

"This is... I guess I'm a Brevet Rank Lieutenant, Liueteant Girahou of the Mashiba Team, I was getting worried that nobody was going to pick us up."

    "Report your location and casualties."

"We've lost 3 Mobile Suits and two pilots, I guess you've already seen the wreck of the Marlene, we've found about 5 survivors and... well, stole a jeep from a Federation post. We were using the laser network to try and get a handle on enemy movements and then retreat back to Zeonic territory."

"Give us your location and we'll move to you, from there we'll see about an extraction."

    "Roger, relaying co-ordinates now."

It's more overland travel, but with help from the Mashiba Team, you're able to circumvent around the Federation Patrols without incident. It takes you extra time however, so the sun is beginning to set by the time you meet up with the survivors.

Aside from a jeep, the team consists of 2 Marine Zaku's and 1 Z'Gok. All somewhat worse for wear.

The Z'Gok, salutes you somewhat sardonically.
"Good to finally see a friendly face in this jungle, you after our recon data?" Girahou asks.

"We pulled that from the Marlenes Black Box about 2 hours ago. We were sent int to extract the Mashiba Team, and that's exactly what I intend to do. Get your shit prepared for a speedy getaway. I'm going to see about an extraction."

"This is Nachtmaren 1 to Outer Heaven, come in?"

    Silence.

    "Outer Heaven do you copy?"

You get more silence. You check in with the beacons software and track the networks, trying to find a break. Sure enough the beacon's daisy chain looks like it only goes as far back as the Marlene, the laser beacon directly before that must have been damaged somehow.

"If there's a bird in the air, we could just pop a flare or break radio silence and hope for the best, minovsky density isn't so bad here." Cima suggests.

    Ambush plans it is.

You consult with the survivors on the topography and find a small lake caused by a stray colony fragment from operation british.
Probably the closest any part of that attack actually got to Jaburo.

You set you're remaining Dom Tropen up on a tarp supplied by the Mashiba Team whilst the rest of you take up ambush positions overlooking a clearing where you've set the flare and a radio relay up on remote control.

It takes about 45 minutes to set up, but which point dusk has set in. With time of the essence, you pop the flare and send out the radio signal, hoping that the Outer Heaven is in range.

"Nachtmaren 1 to Outer Heaven, we need emergency extraction! Repeat Nachtmaren 1 to Outer Heaven URGENT EMERGENCY EXTRACTION NEEDED!"

There is a tense few seconds of static.

"Roger Nachtmaren! Signal received! We'll being our extraction run on your position! ETA 15 minutes! Hold your position until then!"

"Well thank fuck for that." you comment, as you wait for the enemy to arrive.

10 tense minutes pass, and then the tanks begin to roll onto the clearing to investigate the jeep.

Actually even that wont do us much more good because we already have a couple of those.

You give the order, and Jolyne from her Dom Tropen triggers the booby traps on the jeep, the explosion of MS scale flashbangs momentarily blind the enemy, and you take advantage with a salvo of fire from your weapons.
You turn the plains into a killing field with your beam and rocket fire and most of the visible enemy forces are beaten back under the weight of fire with only paltry return fire. There's a blast of ruby red particles as a beam rifle lances out at the spot where Jolyne previously occupied and she darts across the field, nimbly threading through the wrecks returning fire.

"We've got at least one more in the trees! Hovis, shred this treeline with a full salvo burst!"

    "Roger!"

"Hell, man, shred the entire treeline, the less cover the better!" you order as the Zock walks it's fire across the verdant jungle. Flames and explosions follow as trees are tossed into the air.
By the end, large swathes of the jungle are burning matchsticks in all directions, leaving little cover.
Although the smoke could be good in covering the Outer Heaven when it arrives, which better be soon as you're getting return artillery fire.

A giant plume of water signifies the Land Battleship class cannon shell hitting the water.

"Keep spaced people, don't get hit by those things or you'll know what a REAL bad day feels like."

This is then followed up by sporadic beam shots from what little cover remains from yet more unseen GM's.

You are highly releived when the Outer Heaven swoops on ahead and hovers over the lake, allowing you all to clamber aboard. In some cases on foot, whilst the rest of you and the ship lay down more smoke and chaff and covering fire.

Within 3 minutes, you're up and way...

With tech of that quality it doesn't hurt to have more. The Feds haven't stopped researching beam tech either so anything a Gundam is going to be sporting is gonna be top of the line.

As the Outer Heaven rumbles and shakes from stray hits pinging off it's armour (you hope) and from gunning it's engines for everything you have, you make sure the Z'Gok E is secured before risking disembarking.

Lt. Cima Girahou salutes you smartly, as do the rest of the survivors (where able)

"Our ship got trapped on it's makeshift runway before it was able to extract us, they lost their main engine in mid take off and faceplanted shortly afterwards. We were hiding out ever since trying to thread through enough fed patrols to make it back home." She explained.

"How'd the squad take the casualties."

"Unpleasant encounter with a team of enemy mobile suits. Bad ambush that we were barely able to retreat from. It's a good thing the Marine Zaku's still come with modular slots for smoke grenades and the like."

You check in with the rest of the team and your own squad. No serious injuries to report, although Bernie did manage to lose a Dom Tropen.
At least it wasn't one of the Pezun Dowdages... Katoki probably would have had Bernard killed, or transferred into some suicide mission against some kind of super-Gundam...

    OMAKE

Report on Enemy Incursions within Jaburo.

Details are still coming in, but from what we can tell, we both came off with a blood nose from this one. We were able to down a recon team carrier late yesterday, and were in the process of attempting to find their MS compliment when the second incursion occurred.

Whilst none of the Mobile Suits subsequently enocuntered possessed the trademark colour scheme, the manouverability index of this vessel identifies it as a Zanzibar Kai class, the only know example of which is the Outer Heaven.
This strongly implies that the forces encounted by Sgt. Yuu Kojima and Corporal Amy Bauer-Meister were the Nachtmaren Unit. Combat recordings from the two support this.
Although we disrupted the enemy communications network, Major Heinz was overconfident in responding to the enemies flare and distress call and fell into the trap. Resulting in the loss of 3 GM's, another Tank Company and one [g] type Gundam. Furthermore, the beam barrage from the enemy Mobile Marine Armour supressed his forces badly enough to allow the enemy to escape in the Outer Heaven.
At this stage there is no evidence from the salvaged black box from the "Marlene" that the recon team had discovered anything vital in their operation, however this mission hint's at the possiblity of renewed offensives against Jaburo in future, an increase in the stationed forces is called for.

Thought of another bargaining piece if we are forced do go to the table with the Feds. Promise to give them Girhen to be tried as a war criminal. Not that we're sure we can take him alive mind you.

somehow I don't think the federation will be pleased with being offered something we can't deliver.

Hmm... probably right. A 2 for 1 package deal would probably be right out too.
