30 KB Zerg Quest II Cerebrate Anon 07/15/10(Thu)20:59 No.11157577
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/11143565/

Cerebrate Anon was manifested by the Overmind to innovate. It was created to think in new ways, and thus confound the enemies of the Swarm. It has succeeded, and it has grown.

It has been six hours since Cerebrate Anon's Creep washed over Besilus, the small moon at the edge of the Koprulu sector where it was born.

Anon has infested a few Terran facilities on Besilus, harvested vast stores of resources, and developed terrifying new breeds of Zerg which integrate both the technology it stole from the Terrans and the horrifying genetic code of the zergling Bernie (including gausslisks, dicklings, cockalisks, and its first breed of Power Armor Ultralisks). A floating mass of tissue which generates its own Creep, formed from the sexual union of an overlord and a queen, resonates in Anon's mind, equivalent in strength to its brother cerebrates (Anon controls 4: Labbrate, Citybrate, Defensebrate, and Accountantbrate), equally subordinate to Anon's wills, yet unique. It, too, is a new breed of Zerg. Artisanlord, once the zergling Ernie, has created its own new direction for the Zerg. It has recently acquired several of the infested Terrans for an a capella group.

As Anon grows in power, it senses new foes in the stars around itself. The planet Xenta, around which Besilus orbits, is the location of a moderately-sized base of Terrans (who have new technologies for Labbrate to integrate with its Swarms, and soft, nubile bodies for the Swarms to enjoy). Beyond the black Veil of space, Anon can sense psionic vibrations that resemble those of the Overmind's first master, the Xel'Naga. And, of course, Cerebrate Zasz passed through this area as it hastened to carry forth the Overmind's will in the Koprulu sector, leaving behind some small Hive clusters.

Where shall Cerebrate Anon go next?
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/15/10(Thu)21:06 No.11157659
    (Cont'd for bumpage)

Cerebrate Anon has withdrawn from the Light of the Overmind. Its actions are hidden from the Overmind's Eye. Anon is not yet fully separated from the Swarm at large, but it is more free to forge its own destiny than any Zerg has ever been before.

Conveniently, the Overmind's attentions are occupied with its incursion into the rest of the Koprulu sector. Just before Anon retreated its consciousness, it received knowledge that a Protoss fleet had burned away the first infestation of the Terran worlds. It seems that war has come.

If I remember right, we were able to detect a moderately sized terran base, a small protoss base, and another brood of zerg within travel distance. Is this correct?

Prepare all zerg currently on Besilus to make the journey to Xenta. Identify a relatively remote area away from population and military centers.

The planet Xenta below us carries the Terrans. We have infested their dropship, and our numerous overlords can reach there easily.

We sense psionic emanations from somewhere in the system, indicating the Protoss may be here, hiding in the dark space.

Zasz passed through the neighboring system on its way into the sector. It would be an easy thing to create a warp field and take some or even all of our brood to meet its forces. It is unknown how the Garm Brood will respond to us, since we are no longer so tightly bound to the Overmind.
    >> Anonymous 07/15/10(Thu)21:22 No.11157902
Prepare to travel to, and eventually overtake, Xenta. Avoid the notice of the Zasz if at all possible.
    >> Anonymous 07/15/10(Thu)21:22 No.11157906
    >>11157861
Attempting to contact the Garm Brood at this time may be premature. We don't know how they will react, and we should make contact from a position of strength.
The Protoss can wait; we should first infest Xenta and acquire new technologies for integration into our swarm.

Alright, three votes is enough for me.

The Swarms load themselves into overlords. Dozens of dicklings, cockalisks, and gausslisks prepare for the journey, while Accountantbrate directs a crop of drones to a somewhat secluded area with some resources, and begins to build up a Hive cluster there.

Should we assault directly? Use the dropship for surprise? Several of our infested Terrans could pass for normal, allowing us to infiltrate their base more surreptitiously. Or should we create a base and attack from the ground?

Also, should our underling cerebrates manifest themselves on Xenta? What of the floating abomination, Warbrate? It could make the journey to Xenta on its own. For that matter, what of us? With no Zerg to defend us, we would lie vulnerable to any attack on Besilus. Should we reform?
    >> Anonymous 07/15/10(Thu)21:34 No.11158116
    >>11158003
Leave a defensive force on Besilus, with a small number of drones and an overlord or two. We will dig in, well away from the infiltrated Terran bases or obvious Zerg hives here. A token defense force with a decoy of neural matter will be left in the largest hive here. In this manner, if our invasion of Xenta fails, or the Protoss decide to launch a surprise attack, we can hide and recover.

On Xenta, begin the creation of a Zerg hive, with the aim being to overrun a military installation. We will increase in numbers, and when our hordes are sufficient we will launch an attack. While the Terrans are occupied with the zergling rush in front of them, our infested Terran dropships will come in from the direction of reinforcements and infiltrate the installation, where they will launch a surprise attack into the rear of the Terran defenses.
    >> Anonymous 07/15/10(Thu)21:35 No.11158124
Warbrate can spread its lifegiving creep on the surface of Besilus, wherever the creep is thinnest.

Allow the subservient cerebrates to bud off part of their power and work for us on Xenta.

Leave the bulk of the army on Besilus to defend us from possible terran exploration or counter attack. Someone will come looking for them eventually! Focus on building up new, fresh troops on Xenta once we have established ourselves.

Maybe we should try capturing some Terrans alive? Then we can send our infested Terrans amongst them, to see how well they perform, and to spot possible problems before attempting an infiltration of a Terran stronghold.
Things such as speech patterns, appropriate behavior, and using the Terran facilities we took on Besilus, see if any of their automated defenses can tell the difference between an infested and non-infested Terran.

With the primary Hive cluster on Xenta constructed, and the bulk of our Brood upon its surface, we enter the first stage of transport, our physical form coating itself with a thick, dissolving film. Our cerebrates do the same (except Warbrate, of course, who travels with the overlords).

On Xenta, our consciousness manifests within the living Creep, which bubbles and squirms, rising up into new structures. The experience of moving our form is intensely unpleasant. Our newly-acquired Terran knowledge would relate it to cracking open one's own skull, scooping out the brain with a shovel, and dumping it onto a sidewalk to grow a new body.

We resolve to do this less often, if possible.

The dropship is loaded with the most human-looking Terrans we have. They await the order to infiltrate the nearby city.

A standard occupation force is left on Basilus, monitoring the Creep as it begins to harvest latent minerals and gas residue from the dust of the moon. Given enough time (or a concerted effort on our part), it will eventually drain the celestial body to its most basic parts, freeing them up for the Swarm.

We absorbed Bernie back into the Swarm. His ferocity remains with us, but his particularly distressing descent into terminal obsession with rape is, we hope, a thing of the past.

The dropship lands at New Atlanta Spaceport. The infested pilot gathers what appears to be its next shipment of passengers, scheduled to travel to Tarsonis, the capital of the Confederacy. What should we do with them?

Six infested Terrans now walk the streets of New Atlanta. The city is small, housing only a couple hundred thousand Terrans. There is a major military presence, with marines patrolling the streets and an occasional vulture driving by. As they walk, one of them notices a Factory producing a tank, but none of them notice any goliath walkers. A few wraiths fly overhead, but there is no battlecruiser. We would have noticed that from above. Should we give them specific orders, or merely have them walk around?

Artisanlord elected to stay behind on Besilus, constructing what the Terrans call a stage.

Within our consciousness, the part of us that was once Bernie cries to be remade, reborn to carry forth its twisted designs on the people of Xenta as it did on Besilus. Should we indulge it?

    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/15/10(Thu)22:14 No.11158875
The dropship pilot turns from its flight plan, landing instead at our primary Hive cluster. Labbrate takes great care in the infestation of the males' minds and bodies, while the troops formerly under Bernie's care take the females. That reminds us: the females from the first Terran base have swollen at the abdomen (well, those that survived), and seem likely to produce some kind of offspring if left nourished.

The infested agents walk the city, taking in as much of the military layout as possible, but military cordons prevent close inspection of some facilities. One of them finds a guide to civilian-accessible Supply Depots in the field, which could be useful. Another brings to our attention the presence of a civilian research center, which claims to be testing new forms of jamming technologies for military use.

Bernie calls for violence from within our memories, but we can resist that urge if need be. Should we continue spying? Attack? Open diplomatic talks? Every moment that we do not act increases the possibility that the Terrans' air forces will notice the constantly-advancing carpet of our Creep (which Labbrate reminds us we once tried to modify at the edge into a defensive structure. It seems anxious to tinker with our Brood, if we but give the order).

Labbrate seems happy to begin its work. It takes control of one of Battlelord's queens to investigate any possibilities with parasites.

The infested agents have a good idea of the layout of the city, and the outer defenses of the military compound just South of it. From the look of things, this place is substantially more defended than the previous facility, but our forces are surely enough to destroy it if we decide to attack en masse. What should we do with them?

Also, have we decided on a plan of action? Diplomacy? Assault? Wait for Labbrate's findings on infestation from afar?

If we could develop a strain that allows us to infest and control Ghosts, it would give us a powerful new unit type, but I fear the possibility of another Kerrigan being born.
Otherwise, I agree the creation of more subtle infiltration strains is important. We don't yet have the necessary mass to simply overwhelm Terran defenses with numbers, so we should look for methods of force multiplication.

Let's try infestation from afar. That jamming tech may be a huge advantage and destroying that would be bad.

However, keep a sizable military force if shit hits the fan.

Obviously, we need anti-air to take care of their defenses. Scourges would make short work of them, but Mutalisks may be a better choice due to the fact they have no Battlecruisers yet.

Labbrate informs us that we can begin the production of aerial spores that will infest a population over time, but that doing so will require the placement of Zerg buildings within the city limits.

Meanwhile, in the city, we have brought the six infiltration units together. They have cornered an intoxicated Terran in an alleyway, and are currently using a proboscis-like appendage from their mouths to infest him. We are uncertain if this method will work, as it has never been tried before, but if it does, we could conceivably infest a Terran who owned property and use that place for Labbrate's building...if that is our desire.

Scoutlord informs us that a very small but steady number of Terran units is being encountered at the border of our Creep. So far, we have managed to capture five marines, twelve civilians, and a unit we have come to know as a firebat. It has passed them to Labbrate for infestation and analysis, but it informs us that they will surely be missed within a day or two, at which time a more concerted effort will be launched to find where they went.

    Time is of the essence.

Very well. Attempt the creation of an infestation spore building in the city.
At the same time, attempt contact with both the civilian governor and the military commander of the base; negotiate, perhaps offer immortality within the Swarm as a final reward for joining with us.
All the while, prepare our forces for a multi-pronged attack. When the attack begins, infiltrators will attempt sabotage of the off-world communication facilities. We need to complete infestation of the captured marines to find out weak points in the base's defenses, which we will overrun. A small unit of hydras and zerglings will attempt to secure the civilian research facility that's working on jamming tech, and scourges will be sent to the spaceport to keep ships grounded.

The agents report that the infestation of the Terran went well, but that his faculties are less versatile than their own. It seems that field infestations by our agents are not as effective as infestation at the Hive cluster. They begin searching for a warehouse in the city that could house Labbrate's new structure. They will not be able to create the Creep necessary to build Labbrate's structure, though, nor the building itself. A drone will need to evolve into the building on already-existing Creep.

Wails of pain erupt from the Central Hive, where the first batch of impregnated Terrans lay. Our gaze swings there, and we watch as their abdomens swell like a Zerg egg, then explode outward, killing the Terrans and producing what appears to be a new breed of Zerg. These...fleshlings have human skin instead of carapace, claws extending past their forearms over mostly-human hands, and move as fast as our adrenal-gland-enhanced zerglings. Their use in combat is yet unknown, as are any other abilities that they may possess. We have fifteen of them. If the second batch of females produces more, we will have another eight.

One agent separates from the group and walks toward the seat of government. The City Hall is large, with pillars the Terran's memory calls "Greek," though he could not explain what a "Greek" is. It seems to be some old Terran term.

The other six have found a suitable warehouse, and set up an appointment to tour it with the owner. They will infest him sometime soon. They will then require a drone and something to create Creep inside the building. It must be noted that the warehouse is inside the city, and a drone would definitely draw attention walking the streets. Perhaps the dropship?

Labbrate is overjoyed at the suggestion of water-based spores. It begins work immediately. It informs us that raising our carapaces' resistance to heat could possibly reduce its effectiveness against the Terrans' energy weapons. It does not think any kind of Stealth Creep is feasible.

Scoutlord informs us that another squad of marines has been captured. We lost one dickling, which Scoutlord does not particularly regret. It estimates that the Terrans will begin a larger search for their lost troops very soon. Battlelord has rallied several squads of dicklings and cockalisks at their likely exposure points.

The two inform us that it would be possible to remove the sexual organs from the strains if we desired, but that would preclude the creation of any more fleshlings.

Or even better: did any of the captured patrols have vehicles that we can salvage, such as an APC or troop transport of some kind?
Otherwise, it might be better to attempt to acquire a ground vehicle; the dropship would need to land at the spaceport, where the drone's presence might be detected, and having a dropship loiter over a warehouse might arouse suspicion.

The agents have infested the warehouse's owner. It is ready for us.

Labbrate says that water-based spores would work, but would require us to obtain detailed blueprints of the Terran's water treatment equipment if it is to be effective. It estimates that showering would provide for infestation within two or three days, instead of weeks for air-based spores.

The fleshlings have joined the dickling regiment near the edge of the Creep for combat testing. Battlelord keeps the gausslisks burrowed nearby in the case that the gendered Zerg fail. The dropship could probably leave the drone at the warehouse without too much suspicion, but the drone cannot create the Creep without a Hatchery, which would be far too large for the warehouse.

The fifteen fleshlings were attacked by a single marine while on patrol. One fleshling died, and the marine was destroyed. However, the Creep seemed to follow them. It seems that, when gathered together, they can generate a small amount of Creep.

Well, dicklings and cockalisks. Really, who knows which kind impregnated them the first time? Bernie was in control at that time...The second batch was impregnated half and half, with about a 60% mortality rate for the female humans.

The agent at City Hall abandons the diplomacy plan, and instead walks to the edge of the military cordon at the Spaceport. From there, he can see a commander issuing instructions to a wing of wraith pilots. He believes they are planning to recon "whatever the hell kind of goddamn desertion party those idiots are having past the East ridge." Our Hive cluster is beyond that ridge. They leave at dawn.

The other agents enter the water treatment plant under cover of darkness. Their information causes elation in Labbrate, who insists that if he is given control of a few of them of them directly, their proboscis infection tool could spawn a tool for delivering its water spores immediately. It notes that we would likely lose the agents.

The fleshlings and drone have arrived at the warehouse, produced Creep, and begun mutating the building. The dropship has returned from its trip. Scoutlord wonders if we would like to send any more agents into the city, or prepare for a direct assault.

Battlelord grumbles at our decision to keep the genitalia on our Broods for now.

Labbrate considers. Zerglings and Scourge produce more units because they are so simple. If we simplified the drone's genetic structure, it could produce two as well...but would be useful only for resource gathering, as the vast majority of the drone's genetic structure is the "blueprints" for the various structures into which it can mutate.

Labbrate has modified the Scourges, and bred several for the upcoming assault.

If they're drinking infected water, we won't have to do anything further, but if they're using their own water system, we'll have to infect that too.

How goes the efforts to secure the civilian research center?
What's the status on the no-fly zone we've set up at the space port?

Warbrate, for some reason, takes the initiative of ordering a fleshling breeding trial with the mayor. We decide not to watch too closely.

The other male fleshlings, as well as numerous dicklings and cockalisks, are assigned to impregnating our now-infested female human populace. Losses hover around 50 - 55%, with pregnancies almost assured for the survivors.

The newly-added brainpower alots us an idea: we now have access to considerable manpower, as well as much official documentation and uniforms. Perhaps we could infiltrate water treatment facilities as official repair services, and convert colonies that way?

Labbrate devotes much of its energy to deciphering the Terran cloaking technology. It can replicate the technology, but finds it impossible to create an organic equivalent. It suggests a sort of cloaking harness for our units.

An entire division of Power Armor Ultralisks has finished production.

It would do even better if we could infest via rainfall.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/16/10(Fri)01:42 No.11162280
Labbrate is perplexed by the idea of adding jet engines to existing flying Zerg, and insists that it is unfeasible. However, it has found moderate success in growing an overlord around an engine, allowing for much enhanced speed, but the remaining tissue is agitated too much to provide psionic control. These jetlords would only be capable of transporting, much like our dropships.

Labbrate has developed initial estimates of combat efficiency for Power Armor dicklings and cockalisks. Dickling combat efficiency is unaffected, but cockalisks appear to become more resilient when encased in armor (though, due to hydralisk physiology, speed is decreased).

Have Labbrate begin work on integrating Terran cloaking technology without our forces, especially with the more valuable assets such as guasslisks and power armor ultralisks, as well as guardians.
Also have it look into increasing the effectiveness of the delivery system for the water-borne spores, so that the carriers become more potent, or so they don't die during the process.
And what about that jamming technology? Any progress?

Labbrate ponders atmospheric seeding. Theoretically, a structure could be constructed to spread air spores through the entire atmosphere of a planet, but it would require massive amounts of resources.

begin mass production of harnesses for units of all stripes. We have much terran industry, we will put it to use.
continue research into more effective means of infestation, perhaps we can eliminate the symptoms so that no attempt to cure it will be mounted?
the merging of terran technology and zerg biology is a glorious one, and it should continue. Set the brightest scientists in every field that we have infested to research, give them resources, test subjects, reward new ideas and uses of our might, punish failure and waste.
we have two planets, i suggest the prime planet be kept as a hidden bolt hole and reserve, store at least a dozen copies of everything we have learned, biological adaptations, technology stolen, enhancements made. Keep it all safe on the off-chance that we have to rebuild.
our might will become greater with each new planet we take, perhaps.. perhaps it is time to turn our thoughts towards the protoss.. but to do that we will need to meet them on even footing
the ghosts will be key, but we cannot risk them gaining independence, perhaps in our own mind lies the key.
If we were to evolve ourselves, like with the eye we now have, but with psychic powers, it would serve us well. Even better if we use ghost dna and experiments to create relaylings, creatures that we can manifest our psychic might through without physical risk, that would burn out and break the link should any attack be directed through them back to us.
yes.. we will meet the protoss on even ground, and we will make them weep.

Should we really be breeding that many fleshlings?

Well once those new fleshlings are born I say we experiment on as many of them are necessary to find out how to integrate the fleshling genetic code into zerg larva for more efficent production and modification.

Also Warbrate is a fucking pervert. Don't know where he gets it from.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/16/10(Fri)01:50 No.11162420
Jamming technology was in final stages of testing. It appears that the Terrans were working on a way to create a total blackout for any anti-Confederate uprisings. The units are usable. We have taken them.

Several factories of consumer goods are converted into factories for production of cloaking harnesses. We will have enough to outfit all of our combat troops within a few days.

We are still unsure of the talk of psychic advancement. All of our control is psionic. Every overlord we spawn increases our psionic powers. Every unit we control uses a portion of our power.

Have Labbrate experiment with adding a Siege tank shock cannon on the back of a PA Ultralisk. If the cannon has to be operated like a turret by an infested terran, that's fine. Looking for the ability to fire at long range targets while still ripping up close range ones.

Can Labbrate at least add an air-to-air missile capability to the guardians?
    >> Cerebrate Anon 07/16/10(Fri)01:53 No.11162486
Within the next three days, we will add 62,000 new fleshlings to our ranks. Spawning of many overlords to enhance our control over our underlings is underway.

Our ranks of infested Terrans are now completely male.

Labbrate begins vivisection of the twenty or so fleshlings we have. It predicts unraveling of their genetic structure and integration of that structure into the larval code within two days.

Rather than boosting the psionic power of all of our zerg, concentrate on boosting our own psionic abilities. Specifically neural net enhancers, psionic amplifiers, and other means by which our power, and therefore our control, can be expanded.

well guys, its been beautiful, but work comes soon and I must attempt some sleep, please keep the archives up and come Monday when im next on i'll eagerly look round to see what has become of us.
Good luck, and remember, knowledge is power, the best battle is one won without striking a single blow.

After some deliberation, Labbrate proposes a manned turret on the back of a specially-grown ultralisk could work. The ultralisk would need to turn its back on the target and brace itself against the ground with all limbs, including its claws, in order to keep from suffering damage, but it could easily recover and attack at close range in half the time it takes a tank to convert from Siege Mode.

    >>11162479
It would be possible, but Guardians would need to reload often. The missile payloads would also weigh them down, making them even slower. However, as the Guardian is certainly not meant for quick strikes, this may be an acceptable trade. Implement?

All of those things are closely-guarded secrets of the Confederate military science division. A science vessel would need to be captured before those things could be engineered and tailored for our physiology.

Alright, guys. We're wrapping up soon, as I've got a long drive to a job interview in the morning.

Hopefully I'll be available tomorrow for a third thread if you guys are willing. Same bat-time, same bat-channel.

I'm actually in the middle of a nice three-day spread of days off from work (which I'm using to set up a job interview in another town, so I can move away from this job), so I've got time for it tomorrow. After that, we'll definitely slow down.

    Sound good?
