Background: Our operations are winding down in Liberia, Moroccan army units have seized control of vital sectors of the city, and are continuing their push supported by French Special Forces detachments. Under our air cover, they have successfully beaten back most armed resistance, and will most likely have secured the entire capital within six days.
We have continued our search for Copernicus, after action analysis has show that the aircraft was shot down, however we have not located any crew members or debris. The WSO of Griffon One has been recovered, but we doubt he'll ever walk again. Griffon One's pilot did not survive ejection. Griffon Two's crew remains missing in action. French Foreign Legion paras are currently searching the city independently of the main troops on their own initiative.
    >> op again !XQ6W0CNp/o 07/31/10(Sat)17:20 No.11462481
Our operations bureau has located the source of the aircraft that jumped us on your last mission. I know you've been through a lot, so I've been instructed to tell you that what follows has been approved at the highest level by the company. Background Asian Risk Solutions, or BARS, has established a FOB in Sierra Leone, and struck at us during our last mission with advanced Chinese technology. We suspect that the Chinese wanted a field test, and hired BARS to organize a little tech demo, with us playing the part of the patsies. Naturally we don't approve of this move on the part of BARS, and the board has voted to mount a punitive expedition.

    >> op again !XQ6W0CNp/o 07/31/10(Sat)17:23 No.11462527
The mission plan is simple, strike hard, strike fast, and blow the majority of Lungi airfield to pieces before the BARS personnel can respond in force. Following this initial strike, our Special Operations Group (Snakebite) will execute a LALO jump over the airfield, and begin a sweep of the facilities, and will terminate BARS presence on the airfield. It is highly likely some BARS personnel will attempt to escape, you may engage if you are able, but priority is to support Snakebite.
Intelligence has also identified that the mercenaries are staying on the North Eastern corner of Tassos Island, away from the crime of Freetown. Hourly shuttles connect the camp (designated Op Point Baker) with the airport. The camp has been designated a secondary target, and appears to be lightly defended.
This won't be easy, so we've mobilized all BlackFlag squadrons that were available, and have placed them under your control for this operation. I'm sure you are aware of your comrades, Jaeger is available for air to air support, Badger for close air, and Demon for strike ops and SEAD. Full support is being provided at no charge to your squadron account. Don't hold back, give those bastards a bloody nose and send a message. Wheels up at 0500. That is all.
    >> op again !XQ6W0CNp/o 07/31/10(Sat)17:24 No.11462548
    HUMINT: None
ELINT: Records indicate that our operation in Liberia drained the majority of BARS's long range SAM capability, however they retain a heavy defensive force. SEAD is advisable. Air units consist mainly of old Chinese license built copies of soviet era aircraft.
SATINT: Airfield defended by SA-8, ZSU-23, and 2S6 equivalents. 57Mm AA cannons located near Baker.

Threat Assessment: High. BARS is composed of highly trained ex-military operatives, utilizing modern technology. They know we're looking for blood, and they'll be ready.

ROE: Avoid engaging non-BARS units if possible, however, the board has designated this operation as priority black, proceed as required to accomplish the objectives.

OP Again is a player who didn't know shit about planes, came to /tg/ for help, we in turn found out he was playing an RPG where he is a pilot in a merc air force.
    We dismissed it as stupid.
Then some hardcore jetnuts and fligh/tg/uys thought the idea was cool, and began making inquiries. Soon we had a general system for tabletop air combat, and an RPG system. The OP began writing out mission debriefs, and we all began to gaze in wonder at his GM, some guy named "Steve" who is most likely a Canadian Intelligence Operative with a thing for planes and a mind that is dark and shady. The missions generally have a "Steve Factor" in them, and we are in agreement that the guy is probably one of the greates GMs of all time.

Long Story short, I generally hide all /tg/ threads sooner or later, but these ones stay open, and keep me up into the morning, waiting for updates.

Pretty much everything steve mentions is real (geographically at least).

Somehow I'm anticipating the ground-to-air to be the biggest hurdle, rather than the possible chinkwork buckets they'd be flying. They sent Chengdu's at fourth genners in the last mission, afterall.

Of course, it might be that the chinks have a secondary strip with the REAL air assets somewhere nearby, and that the current intelligence is of the same sort what AirScan had when they tried to take out the Vengeance, and that the REAL live fire tests haven't even started yet...

Yeah. Bring everyone and everything you can on this one. Without going into the negatives, of course~

Depends on whether it is carrying any ordnance. If it has AtA stuff mounted, it should do fairly well, but it isn't designed with that in mind. I'd have to go look up wing loading and turn rates for a deeper analysis, but on the surface, it has the flankers generally good handling, but high bleed off speed. When coupled with heavier weight, that means it won't be as good as your Flanker-Bs in a turning contest.
    >> Anonymous 07/31/10(Sat)18:49 No.11463870
No data. But it has a very high wing loading of 629 kg/m^2. Compare that to the Su-27's 371 kg/m^2 or the F-15Cs 358 kg/m^2.

A turn fighter this bird isn't.

Thrust to weight is also bad for a fighter, at 0.68. Su-27 does 1.09, F-15C does 1.3 with newer engines, so a real fighter will leave the Su-34 in the dust when it comes to vertical maneuvers.
    >> sukhoi !KJHro3/ISM 07/31/10(Sat)18:52 No.11463911
Well, the Bug can operate off a carrier, but the Strike Eagle carries a lot more firepower.

Durandalls and some cluster ammo for area denial will do the trick for the AF to take it out and then some rockets or iron bombs if the ground elements need fire support.

That being said, there is an online merc game that is being started on the forums (multiplayer, still recruiting, two people per Squadron) and Sukhoi has offered to Run a Vassal Air War game.

    >> Blacksheepcannibal 07/31/10(Sat)20:39 No.11465280
Having worked on them for a few years, I'd say F-15E would be a spectacular choice. Anything you can fit into ECM pods can already be fitted directly into an F-15E (albeit in inconvenient places). That's the reason it has a smaller gun magazine.

If you're wanting to go true multirole tho, a Su-30MK is hard to beat. It has SEAD and EW capability that the F-15E doesn't have, but the electronics on an F-15E (as well as the LANTIRN/Sniper pod give it a decided edge in conventional Air to Ground combat. No phased-array radar though (last I knew only charlie birds were getting the upgrade, as well as the helmet mounted cue system).

Great. Slap a pair of GOOD Sidewinders on the thing and then mount those fucking Brimstones, unless anyone knows any better way of bringing truly silly quantities of guided AtG standoff munitions.

    So... so... blue!

Man, this ball of dirt must really look different from up there.

As for Badger flight, I'm guessing they're the bottom of the totem pole for Black Flag. Their job is mud-moving, so I'm assuming they fly most often against targets that have at best AAA or manpads for air defense. As such, their earnings, and as such, airframes, would be a bit more rustic. Also, some mercs just propably wouldn't fancy taking up missions with risk evaluations and earnings comparable to the wacky and suicidial edge-of-the-apocalypse shit Black Aces fly. Steady keep, steady risk. Everyone remembers Biscuit and Sandy, afterall. Not necessarily incompetent, but propably not as motivated as the bigger boys.

Man. Considering there's going to be 20+ frames in the sky from Black Flag alone, I suspect this is going to be the mother of all furballs.

Actually, I find myself wondering why Jaeger Flight isn't in charge of this mission, if they're the best pilots. Was a reason given? Is it just because they're apparently specialized while the Black Aces are more of a multirole group?
