    81 KB Obliterator Quest part V Vostroyan tough guy !!1tDIRRlgZfN 09/03/10(Fri)10:08 No.11934328
    hi /tg/,

I'm back early to my exile from the sane world of boring people, and it's time for another part of Obliterator Quest!

After the Siege of Terra the defeated traitor legions fall back from imperial space, heading to the Eye of Terror. Brother Acherus, siege engineer of the Iron Warriors 300th Grand Company, severely injured in the ground assault of the Imperial Palace spends months in cryo-stasis, until his injuries can be attended by the few remaining Apothecaries. Recovered from his wounds he doesn't only have to find his side in the shadow war and power struggle among the rival Warsmith, vying for the favour of their superior, but he experiences a weird form of mutation the Legion Apothecaries never seen before.

    parts 1-4:
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Iron%20Warriors

After waking up in the Generatorum, Acherus had to fight his way out through Mechanicus troops, getting seriously injured in the process. After the great escape, he received a vox-message from brother Solonis...

(I re-read the last thread and noticed that I copied the unedited draft of the scene about brother Conraad, in a hurry 'cuz i had to leave, without proof reading it for flaws before posting it. I'm posting the fixed version now, so that it makes more sense. Hopefully. Also, reposting the last couple scenes, to keep the chronological order.)
    >> Vostroyan tough guy !!1tDIRRlgZfN 09/03/10(Fri)10:18 No.11934417
Brother Conraad inspected the curious weapon. At first glance the bolt pistol seemed no different from any other of its kind from the Legion Manufactorum. Standing at his workbench he connected a mechandrite to the neuro-interface, and a score of machinery powered up around him. A pict screen lit up to his right, displaying equipment status.
He held the pistol up with one of his manipulator arms, and a number of scanner arrays turned towards the object, probing it with beams of light, manipulator fields, and perform ultrasonic and a variety of other scans. They assessed the object's shape, size, weight, tried to identify its material, assembly points, and moving components.
    >> Vostroyan tough guy !!1tDIRRlgZfN 09/03/10(Fri)10:19 No.11934424
Brother Conraad watched the pict display in disbelief, as the scan results were listed in a rolling column of text. The scanner's machine spirit returned no matches with any records in the Armoury Data-vault regarding of the weapon's material. All attributes suggested some sort of metallic alloy, similar to plasteel, but its pattern seemed like the cell structure of living tissue, as if the weapon have not been forged, but grown. Also, there were no clearly distinguishable separate components or visible assembly points, looking like it was moulded from one piece, the magazine being the part of the pistol, just as much as its barrel.
He held up the weapon. It felt comfortable in his hand. The machine spirit of his armour connected with that of the pistol, instantly displaying the ammo counter on his visor display.
"It shouldn't be possible." he muttered to himself. Brother Conraad was no stranger to daemonic weapons, but this exceeded everything he has ever seen.
He felt a stinging sensation in his palm, and heard a static noise for a second. He shook his head, and turned from his workbench, and walked towards the test firing chamber.

You stalk through the Lower Decks glancing back every now and then, half expecting scitarii troopers charging you from every shadow, but after a while you calm down and realize you're alone in the maze of corridors.
You look at your hands, noticing the twin gunbarrels proturding from your clenched fists. As you stare at them in disbelief they slowly retract in your gauntlet, that ripples and flows around the muzzles like molten wax, slowly resetting in the gauntel's original form.
You hear a sound of static and the voice of brother Solonis sounds in your head.
    "Brother Acherus, report."

Brother Conraad put the pistol back at the workbench, picking up a data slate instead, thumbed the activation rune and the display lit up, and he scrolled through the listed entries, walking towards the Armoury Storage.
He connected a mechandrite to the terminal in the wall and the doors slided open. As he disconnected he noticed a slight twitch in the manipulator arms of his servo-harness. He heard the scratching sound again. Stopping for a second he looked down at the data-slate again, noticing he held the bolt pistol... He turned back looking in the direction of the workbench where he remembered leaving it, only seeing an inactive data slate there.

You report your status to Solonis and hear his voice again.
"I reported the incident at the Waste Processors to the Warsmith." he says, then after a pause "He'd like to have a word with you. Now."

    ***

    PART 5 STARTS FROM HERE:

You get on a turbo-lift and ascend to the upper decks. As you wait for the pod to reach your destination you inspect your reflection in the silver surface of the elevator door. Your face is a scarred mess, your once noble features ruined by decades of constant warfare, and the numerous conflicts of the day. The warpfire of the Horrors you fought, after taking on brother-librarian Kerberos, left you with several new burn marks all over your face, where the daemonic blood splattered over you. You see the skin cracked, peeling off in white flakes, a metallic grey showing under, where you'd expect the pink of flesh.
Your armour is scorched and bent in several places. The breastplate is badly damaged, missing chunks of ceramite, where bolter hits failed to penetrate, and exploded on the surface. On your left side there is a large hole, where a lucky shot got you, and shattered a couple of ribs. There is no blood, but you feel a stabbing pain every time you move.
Your left shoulder pad has been punched through by a plasma bolt, burning through your flesh, and the blackened hole is still smoking, but the numbness in your arm has passed at least.
You inspect a strange vertical line on your breastplate, and remember the tech-marine, brother Conraad attempting to ease you of your armouru with a plasma cutter, when you got into a heated debate, involving you shooting in his workshop. The sides of the cut seem to have grown narrow, like a healing wound.
    >> Vostroyan tough guy !!1tDIRRlgZfN 09/03/10(Fri)10:27 No.11934478
You check your wargear. You have a plasmagun, and a bolter with you. On your waist, hangs a sheathed combat knife on your weapon belt.

(Alright, since it caused much confusion, you have limited abilities. You were able to absorb your bolt pistol, and your chainsword, but had no success with your bolter and your plasmagun yet. There is a way, but I'll let you figure it out yourselves.
You can generate almost unlimited ammo when you mimick a bolt pistol, and you were able to produce the weapon from both of your arms, and do so as twin-linked, so effectively it's a combi-bolter, with a little slower rate of fire.)

You arrive to the Legion Quarters.

Is there anything you want to do before going to the Warsmith?

You can ask the tech-marines in the Armoury, but without leaving your armour there they can only make quick fixes, like filling the holes in your breastplate with ceramite-like stuff that sets in about an hour.
Thing is, you either go and fix your armour, probably making the Warsmith wait, aaand quite possibly encounter Conraad as well, or leave it for later

(yeah, sorry. was on the phone...)

You take the mag-train leading to the Command Section, and after a ride you arrive to the Security Terminal. Brother Solonis waits for you there.
"Just on time. Let's not make the Warsmith wait." he says, walking to the automaton guards guarding the gateway. Weaponsystems trained on you as you close, you feel the hairs on your back rising. A servo skull approaches you, and Solonis holds up a badge for it to check.
"We're going to the Warsmith, Lord Skraal." he says, and the skull drone flies away, inserting a snakelike manipulator into a console on the wall.
The gate opens and Solonis gestures for you to follow.

After another ride on a turbo-lift you finally arrive to the Warsmith's personal chamber. Its ornate gates are full with engraved scenes depicting the heroism of Lord Skraal during the Crusade.
You enter the chamber after Solonis and stop after closing the gate behind you, turning towards the imposing presence dominating the hall, humbly waiting for him to call you. Warsmith Skraal stands in the middle of his personal chamber, amid a score of legion serfs, only wearing a black leather studded battleskirt.
He is a giant of a man, his muscled body bearing scars of a thousand battles. The serfs attending him move in practiced choreography, like a ballet of servants, washing him with sponges and treating his skin with scented oils.
He turns his head towards you as you enter.

"Ah, good Acherus. Come." his voice like the gates of a crypt grinding close.
You walk forward with Solonis on your side. The Warsmith turns your gaze towards you, as the serfs finish. You look into dark eyes, and feel like falling into a bottomless pit. His face bears deep scars from the right ear to his chin, memento from the fight against the monstrous reptiles on Thrax V.
"I see you had an eventful day." he says. "Did Solonis explain why are you here?"

The Warsmith looks weird at you for a moment, then turns and gestures with his hand.
"Walk with me." and with that, he leads you and Solonis to another chamber that's separated from this one with a gold embroiled, heavy curtain.
You look around and see electro-candles along the walls, and the old Company Flag, from before the coming of the Primarch, adorning a wall. His suit of armour stands in a shimmering containment field, a weapon rack holding an ornate bolter, and a broad bladed powersword. An Icon of Chaos Undivided hangs over a black marble altar.
Four astartes warriors are also present. You recognize brother Gaius, Lazarus, Solomon, the chosen of Lord Skraal; also brother-techmarine Thar, the Warsmiths personal artificer.

"These are dark times we live in, Acherus." the Warsmith starts. "Loyalty is a thing to value."
You see brother Tharr stepping to the weapon rack and handing the Warsmith his powersword.
"You've been there to see the true face of our enemy. Not only have we stand the shame of defeat, but we have to deal with the treachery of our brethren. Step closer."

Receive my mark, and stand proud among my Chosen." he raises the point of his blade, carving an eight pointed star on your right cheek with unerringly preceise movements, then handing back the sword to the artificer he holds up his right hand, and you see a signet-ring displaying the personal heraldy of Lord Skraal, a hammer breaking an anvil. The signet starts glowing and he pushes the ring against the middle of the chaos star.
You smell the stench of burn flesh, but feel no pain.
He steps back, and you see Solonis producing a small leather pouch, taking a handful of ash from it, and rubs it in the wound. You see a similar scar on his face too.

You get back to the Warsmith's chamber seeing that the rest of the Chosen and the Master Artificer is gone, and the Warsmith wearing his armour.
He inspects the changes of your battleplate, and your chosen piece of wargear, then beckons you with a half smile.

"You probably understand the political state the Legion is in now." Lord Skraal says. "The Primarch and Lord Charon expects us to co-operate like the good soldiers we are. I wish we could put away our differences, but we can't."

While you listen you taste the liquid. It's some spiced amasec from the world of Thrax V, your company spent years as garrison on. It has a nice aroma.

"There is a contest for the favour of Perturabo, of the Lord Commander, of the Chaos Gods, you name it, but there is contest. Solun wants me, you, the 300th out of the way, and since he can't risk open conflict for the fear of the wrath of our masters, he chose to use methods less honourable."

You remember the possessed marine that Kerberos hired to assassinate the Warsmith, wondering what fate has befall on him. He's probably still out there, hiding from Solun's lackeys.

Unable to strike at him openly, I chose to strike at his company. More fighting would just come to the attention of others, but if we choose our targets wisely, we could keep our hands clean... figuratively. Accidents always happen."

You listen to the booming voice of the man as he walks to and fro in the chamber, gesturing with the half drained goblet as he continues his monologue. You have to concentrate hard to understand his words, feeling hypnotized by the powerful voice.

"The Siege cost us dearly. A price I would have paid dearly... for victory." with that, he stops in his pace and turns towards you, looking you in the eye. "But now it's a sore wound for the 300th, and for the other companies as well. Solun's company is barely over fighting strength, and has a lot of wounded in stasis. You might start to see where I'm getting with this."

"Also, it's not only Solun's men you have to worry about, but all who are loyal to Solun." with that, he turns to the table to refill the goblet from a bottle.

You look at Solonis for help.
"Every Warsmith has two company captains and their respective companies to answer to them." he says in a low voice. Now that he mentions it, you remember. brother-captain Gorgon, and Aeron.
"And what about us?" you ask. "Our allies,"
"Captain Set and Xerxes are still around, but their companies had dire causalities."

The Warsmith looks at Solonis then takes another sip of the beverage. Solonis shuts up.

If you're investigating after them, you're on the wrong track. These wounds are too small to be caused by a possessed astartes, or a daemon."
