"Come one, come ALL!" the dwarf's voice booms from the stone platform.

The slave market reeks of fear-sweat, stale urine and huddled unwashed bodies exposed to air only rarely.

"We have gladiators, house servants, Half-giants, dancing girls, and tutors for the elite! Come, gather around! No purse is too small to purchase too large! Come see the finest in slaves from House M’ke!"

The Dark Sun beats down upon the mud bricks, making the air stifling and increasing the potency of the miasma. Illiene, a tattooed mindbender and your friend, turns to you, his dark face crinkling in mirth as a Half-Elfen Bard is led down the stairs to you, obsidian shackles around his wrists. Your new gladiator, bought a paid for.

"I love the market," Illiene says, sipping from his waterskin. "Smells like opportunity."

Who are you? You are Tordek, son of Tordek, an aging mul veteran Gladiator.

You have three blooded gladiators (functionally lv 2) and are slowly expanding your gladiatorial buisness.

The question is now, do you wish to invest in another gladiator, see about hiring a trainer to work with your three promising slaves to make them into full (lv 1) gladiators, buy monsters or animals for the arena perhaps, or do you wish to expand the structure of your gladiatorial school?

Personally I think we should plan to expand our business interests outside of simply training and entering gladiators. If we acquire a good amount of "pleasure providers" we could add an extension to our compound and run a brothel, with a few gladiators acting as security. Not to mention potential prizes for gladiators who perform well.

Hi guys. I'll be here for a few hours

Expanding into brothels is certainly an option, particularly in Dark Sun. At the moment though most of your finances (and rep) is tied up in gladiatorial games.

Still if I can get three votes for this plan entertainers (jugglers, tightropewalkers, etc.) or investing in a brothel is an option I can expand into in the future.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)03:36 No.12001398
Jugglers are boring. We already have a bard. We could have dancing ladies and hookers doing their things while our bard, or multiple bards eventually, playing for the crowd.

Using well performing gladiators as security + letting them bang the hookers as a prize for performance works.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)03:39 No.12001420
At the moment you have two Fighters (defenders) and one Bard (leader)

I'm using 4e rules and the character generator. I literally have a character sheet (30 now) for each gladiator.

Defenders are tanks, focus enemy attacks on themselves, and dish out punishment

Leaders heal and (bards in particular) control allies with movement.

    Gladiator slaves available
Half-Elf Ardent 200 cp --- This is a psionic Leader
Dwarf Battlemind 185 cp -- This is a psionic Defender
Gith Monk 175 cp -- This is a psionic striker. Strikers specialize in burst damage and lots of it.
Dray Psion Telekine for 175 cp --- A psion is a psionic controller. controllers focus on Area of effect spells, controlling enemies and massive damage

Let me give you a rundown of the powers of your half-elf bard and other gladiators as well.

Hey Noxii, your name fell off.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)03:40 No.12001440

    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)03:45 No.12001468
Expanding to haivng a brothel sounds like a plan, but we should wait until we've got some more cash in the bank to finance something like that.

    We'd need:
    Cash for expansion.
    Cash for slaves.
Cash for more entertainment. The one bard is good and could play music, but a few musicians to back him up would be nice.

You have three slaves that have potential to become full gladiators.

    Unskilled Slave – Finesse Dude
    Criminal – Big McLarge Huge
    Criminal – Scarface

Finesse dude could be trained to become a martial, arcane or psionic class
Big McLarge Huge could be trained to become a martial class (best is fighter)
Scarface could be trained to become a martial class (best is fighter or rogue)

Training takes about a month, depending on a die roll.

Tordek (you) are a Fighter and can train martial classes.
Illiene (psion) can train psionic classes

    Trainers for hire
--Half-Giant. Former Sergeant slave under Kalak’s legions in Tyr. He is a Fighter and can train promising slaves in melee techniques.
    >120 cp for 3 months.
--Human. A shadowy 'associate' that Illiene knows as a go between with the Elfen Market. He is a Rogue and can train promising slaves in melee techniques.
    >100 cp 3 months
--Human. An instructor at the famed Raam academy, the Psiumarkh. He is a Psion and can train promising slaves in psionic techniques.
    >120 cp 3 months.

**Note that Illiene could also train a promising slave in psionic techniques if he does nothing else but that.

-- Dray. A sorcerer, rumored to be a defiler and member of a dray clan in the employ of Abalach-Re herself. Purchasing his services is legal with your permit. He is a Sorcerer and may train promising slaves in the arcane arts.
    >140 cp for 3 months

    Those are me

and for your reference, your new slave's stats.
    Also he needs a name

    Half-Elf Bard

    HP: 30 Init: +1

    Scimitar (1d8), Dagger, Chainmail

    ***Special Abilities

*Rousing Voice – If ally uses Second Wind, they regain +5 temporary hp
*Song of Rest – When taking a short rest you and each ally may gain +5 hp for every healing surge spent.

-War Song Strike (melee) – Weapon attack plus your charisma damage. Any ally who hits this target before the end of the next turn, gains 1 temporary hp

--Vicious Mockery (ranged) – vs Will. 1d6 + charisma psychic damage and target takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls until end of next turn.

-Spiteful Glamor (ranged) -- vs Will. If target at max hp, 1d12 + charisma psychic damage; otherwise 1d8 + charisma psychic damage

-Blunder (ranged) – vs Will. 1d6 + charisma charm damage. Target can be moved 10 feet. You or ally may make melee basic attack against target during their forced movement at +3 to attack.

-Moment of Escape – Target ally moves up to 20 feet. Takes full action

Fuck! Hire the arcane trainer. Have him train our finesse dude. Have him do it for the entire three months time, so we can get him to be the best arcane user he can be.

Also train him physically, not as a class, but so that he gets physically fit as well.

    I would agree.

Since this quest is getting a bit option heavy (which I like and I hope you do as well), let me summarize the consensus options

    280 cp
    you could
    > buy one more gladiator
    > hire one trainer to train your promising slaves into gladiators

With both of those options you would have enough left over to expand the gladiator school a bit if you wish. For example your new gladiator needs a new room I believe.

A Simple room is cheap, 10 cp
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)03:54 No.12001535
Would we get a bonus to payouts for a arcane gladiator? Would it be legal? If yes to both, I say get the Arcane trainer.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)03:56 No.12001547
Definitely arcane trainer. Train our finesse dude to Magic shit up. THen let's see how good he becomes. He doesn't get a name though until he completes training and proves himself.

Tordek sees Illiene gesture wildly and try his smoothest tones with the Dray. However the legendary lawyerly attitude of the Dray wins out and Illiene walks over, his poker face falling for a moment in irritation. ' He said he would do it for one month, but he's going to charge us 60 ceramic pieces if we want him. That would leave us with 220 ceramic or so, but I'm annoyed I couldn't get him to go lower.'

So looks like you want the arcane trainer.

Simple Stable (1) Keeps one kank and not very well – 15 cp
Stable (3) Keeps four kanks or three kanks and one chariot, comes with stablehand -- 45 cp

Illiene and Tordek are discussing the finer points of arena combat with the half-elfen bard when suddenly Sandria skips up with a large mahogany object in her hands. Tordek blinks for a moment. He didn't even notice her gone. The platinum blond smiles slightly and presents it to the beefy mul.
'Its a hookah, made of wood far beyond the Ringing mountains.' she breaths. Illiene's eyebrows shoot up, wrinkling the tattoes on his forehead. 'And this set us back by how much..?' he queries.
Sandria puts a hand to her chest and her green eyes sparkle. 'It was a complement of the shopkeeper. To the concubine of a powerful noble.'

'Unstoppable' favors the Greatsword and wears scale armor

Its possible for you to find a slightly magical item in the stalls of the markets of Raam. Thanks to Templar Sur Ish you have access to some of the shops reserved for nobility.

The issue is a +1 greatsword would run about 360 cp which is a bit out of your price range right now, but feasible if Illiene and Tordek do some creative bargaining.

    Noxii games:

Animal Hunt – Noxii mob vs Pack of Wolves or Single animal (Dire Wolf, or Cave Bear)
Free for all – in which Noxii are released one at a time into the arena. Last one standing wins.

A roar sounds from the beast pens. A slavering

The creak of wagons and the lash of the whip combine to make a cacophony at the arena entrance. Tordek dips his thumb in ink and spits on it, making his mark on the papyrus the black robed templar pushes over to him. ‘Just sign here, here …and here,’ the bored government worker says, focusing most of his attention on Sandria as she stands by Tordek, her dress subtly clinging to her ample assets. Why couldn’t Illiene just deal with this stuff, Tordek wonders, peering at the undecipherable symbols. Why wasn’t he back yet?

“Tordek, son of Tordek?” an imperious voice speaks, and the young templar immediately straightens up and looks busy, shuffling papers. Tordek looks up into …. a rather familiar face. Its ‘Wart’, that Templar who bet on Watapon on his rookie engagement.

“Please follow me,” ‘Wart’ turns imperiously and leads Tordek down into the bowels of the arena’s staging area.

Illiene rushes out from nowhere and grins excitedly. “Isn’t this exciting? We’ve been offered a formal challenge from Stonetide! So he’s a Warlord and about twice as seasoned as Watapon. However his trainer has agreed this fight will not be to the death, well shouldn’t be really, and the price for winning is 100 cp.”

Interesting, I say we go for it and tell Wart to put his Cash in Unstoppable. I'm wondering if we can make this more of a fair fight. Perhaps we could arrange a two on one match to even the odds, maybe offer to make the match a to the death one if he agrees.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)06:44 No.12002474
lvl4 vs lvl2 to the death? Pretty much means Ustoppable will die. 2v1 to the death we could maybe use Kr'ktt to grapple him and then bash him to death but he's still lvl 4 ffs. One good roll on that warhammer (and he's gonna have one, he's a tank, he's just gotta sit and wait) and we're short of a (reasonably expensive) galdiator with nothing to show for it. Maybe 2v1 to unconciousness or just duck the match altogether.

Personally, I think that the Challenge Seeking Greatsword would be the better choice.

Unstoppable already hits hard, so hitting even harder would cause the match to end even quicker, right?

I'm not really sure which one to buy, but I'm leaning for the challenge seeking one, 1d6 on first hit is awesome plus can own the healers if they heal to full or overheal. Crits are fine and all, but this one gives us an advantage where Unstoppable is strongest: first strike.

    rolled 11 = 11

The arena is in a hush. Only the crunch of sand under the sandals of the exhausted gladiators and their labored breathing pierces the quiet. There is a final defiant scream of rage from Watapon and the sword rises up and then comes down with the sound of shattering bone.

None can say if the blade hit home that day. None could say they saw it miss. Regardless, Stontier gasped clutching the sucking purple wound on his chest and fell to the earth, unconscious and defeated.

Watapon 'Unstoppable' Ford slowly and laboriously rose from his knees to the chanting of a thousand voices crying his name.

The name, of a burgeoning legend.

    >Warlord had 2 hp. Whether you missed or hit Watapon still does 5 damage minimum.

    >150 ceramic pieces.
    >Unstoppable is now level 3 (or 3.5 or something)
    >+1 reputation with Templars ('Wart' bet heavily on Watapon)
    >bonus: Tune in next time

    >I correct myself. With that roll, you killed him.

There is a soft sigh, of flesh shearing off Watapon's eversharp bone blade.

Stonetier embraces the earth of his name, a nicked mustache fallen on the sand, blood-spattered and worn, no more.

Time to set out an offer to the slave markets.
Who wants to give Unstoppable his own personal slave, doing so would ensure some repeat business. A lady to warm his bed, a boy to tend to his weapons and armor? Who will gain the honor of our fighter?

This is Tordek placing the offer down to the slavers

We just had to put that bit about compensation for wrongful death in there.
Oh well, Unstoppable continues to live up to his name, and that's all that really matters.

    >After much hemming and hawing you get a contract that the game by all intention should be to unconciousness. If your gladiator dies the opposing manager is willing to pay 70% of your purchase price.
    if OUR gladiator dies
we probably leveraged on him being a low level faggot and thus inferior (HAHA SIF)
also Unstoppable really needs new quarters now, if just for being awesome. At least he got swankin' sandals.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)09:45 No.12003572
    Why buy?
People are making so much money we might be able to get a gift.
the Templars fucking Love unstoppable, maybe they'll pool together some of their large earning and get him a freshly trained concubine
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)09:48 No.12003601
Well, get him an whore at any rate, and better quarters. He's our star fighter for the moment, he needs to be an example of what you can achieve and what you'll get if you're awesome. Also we need to socialize Kr'ktt enough for him not to eat opponents in knock-out fights.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)10:51 No.12003998
And to think at the time I was opposed to getting Unstoppable. Sure, I was won over by the first fight, but looking at how awesome he's been now...

He definitely deserves that nice room though. No need to overly reward him just yet--bitches are going to go his way on their own after seeing him win like that, and he's sure to have plenty more winning for us to reward in the future.

    Looking forward to it!

Just wanted to give you props on your DMing. I especially like your descriptive skills and how you manage to make all the characters interesting, from the random concubine we rolled to the broly telepath.

That, and you roll with /tg/ being its crazy hivemind self like a pro.

Oh and Noxi, Ive just finished reading straight thro this questan so far and I saw that Norse god name the first thing when I read it. Nice use of Tyr if i remember correctly the guy who sacrificed his hand so the Fenris could be bound.
