259 KB Stalker Quest 2 Stalk Out of Here Getter 09/24/10(Fri)02:44 No.12203908
Due to autosage, a second thread for tonight's capper. Previous thread: >>12199300

You've no particular care for the Ukrainian military, but to be eaten by wild dogs? You're not sure you can stomach that, "They deserve a proper burial," you say, and begin moving in - the others aren't far behind. It turns out all that's necessary is a couple of well-placed shots: when a a pair of their number drop, the remaining dogs bolt, fleeing through another, larger hole in the structure. This close, it's clear that there's no way this Hind should be here - it didn't crash through the roof or slide through an open door, it certainly didn't coast in. The entire frame of the thing is rippled with damage, a testament to some incredible force it must've underwent. You find eight bodies, all badly pulverized; the cockpit isn't even accessible, being fused into a the rusted hulk of some machine that had been here previously. Even most of the equipment is destroyed, smashed against bulkheads; you manage to salvage a pair of AN-94s. At least there are no anomalies.

"Must've been Spetsnaz," Bird mutters, eying the rifles.

"Means they were doing something the government actually cared about," Vlad comments, not without sarcasm.

"I found a PDA," Twitch shouts triumphantly, "It's locked, though."

"If we're going to bury these guys," Damsel mutters, "Let's do it and go."

    You consider for a moment.
    >> Anonymous 09/24/10(Fri)02:48 No.12203940
Burning them would probably be better. Faster too. Save us from disease. Scare away mutants, maybe.

Obviously take the PDA, get it cracked in a safe place. Could have some kind of tracer on it. Check for one.

Could be a computer programmed tracer installed in the code.

    Could be nothing at all.
    >> Lurker 09/24/10(Fri)02:50 No.12203957
Consider what? We got a pda that's locked (find someone who can hack in the Zone?) and we got some gear. Search a weeeee bit more, bury the dead, mark on our PDA's where the telefrag happened, then keep on trucking?
    >> Anonymous 09/24/10(Fri)02:50 No.12203959
    Damsel knows what telefragging is?

    >> Anonymous 09/24/10(Fri)02:51 No.12203960
Bury 'em. Take the PDA. See what Colonel Cosmo has to say.

Then go see how much Barkeep will pay us for the info.
    >> Fimbulwinter !!jY7uZKPXVyB 09/24/10(Fri)02:51 No.12203962
Take some fused scraps of varied types, they might be of interest for their material properties.
    >> Frosted Weasel !!dLUhj2yYgMt 09/24/10(Fri)02:57 No.12204007
Grab the PDA, a couple of metal samples, and the rifles and ammo, funeral pyre for the bodies, and beat feet.
    >> Anonymous 09/24/10(Fri)02:59 No.12204024
    >>12203960
Please, call him anything but Colonel Cosmo, that name sounds kinda ridiculous.
    >> Stalk Out of Here Getter 09/24/10(Fri)02:59 No.12204027
"We can afford the time to bury them," you confirm, and lead by example, as usual. Twitch, for his part, keeps poking around the ruined helicopter, taking up a few pieces of broken-off debris where concrete, wood, and metal appear to have fused in an impossible fashion. Besides these curiousities, the Hind yields us little else: Vlad joins the shovelling with his own entrenching tool after briefly fiddling with the PDA.

"Thing's way above my pay grade," he says simply, putting his back into it. It occurs to you that these men were never really his comrades strictly speaking, and now were even less so. Still, he's helping, and you've got to give him credit for that.

Twitch, who has gone from poking about to keeping watch, breaks the relative silence of work, "Uh guys," he says, sounding a bit panicked, "We've got incoming."

You take up your binos and look for yourself; what you see makes your blood run cold. Ukrainian spetsnaz, led by a single military stalker. Nine men in all. You wonder how they got so close, but then, that's part of the job description.

They've definitely seen you, and now they realize that you've seen them.

Shots ring out, and your group scatters for cover in and around the warehouse.
    >> Anonymous 09/24/10(Fri)03:04 No.12204079
    >>12204027
shit, is there any back way out of the warehouse? dump the PDA, that's probably what they're here for.
    >> Stalk Out of Here Getter 09/24/10(Fri)03:06 No.12204091
    >>12204079
There's holes in the walls all over the warehouse, so yeah, you guys could try to GTFO out the "back door" if you wanted.
    >> Frosted Weasel !!dLUhj2yYgMt 09/24/10(Fri)03:07 No.12204111
Break contact. Take aimed shots, and execute a peel off. Peel in order of Bird, Twitch, Vlad, Damsel, Bosse. If they're close enough, toss a frag at them. When the go is given, Bird dumps his mag, bounds back to the next secure position, and calls when he's set. Once he's set, Twitch does the same, etc., etc.

hrm. Got a list of our gear? how nay nades do we have left after the marsh?

Also, while we're planning, I suppose we should probably be putting some rounds downrange, just to slow them down if nothing else.

I hope i'm not the only one playing, i'll probably cause a TPK..

They'll backwards flip hatchet throw us to death, just for extra style points, we need to make like trees and get the FUCK outta there.

Unless... stalk, how many levels of building are there? would it be possible to make it up a couple stories and get some vertical fire down on these mofos?

I don't mind standing to fight, I just want somewhere elevated and more secure when facing superior numbers.

my vote goes to nade spamming like motherfuckers

and putting those AN-94s to good use, double tapping those bastards

and GTFOing by any means necessary
    >> Stalk Out of Here Getter 09/24/10(Fri)03:22 No.12204219
You've personally got one nade, there's 7 left in the party besides yours.

    It's a single-floor warehouse, by the way.

Also note: the suits spetsnaz use are very tough ballistically speaking; they lack some refinements for Zone exploration, but that's not what these guys are here for.

Current opinion seems to favor breaking contact.
    >> Anonymous 09/24/10(Fri)03:23 No.12204220
In all honesty, we could approach this in the same manner as we did the mercs.

We're just some random stalkers poking around a freakin' crashed hind, which is likely their primary objective. If we bugger out, and they don't realize we took anything ( I mean, the thing is anomaly trash, how would they know? ), I doubt they would really pursue us too doggedly, especially in the zone.

Of course, I could be wrong and they could be REALLY pissed off, but hey.

unless there's some sort of tracker in the PDA.. in which case, they'll follow us.

Stalk, are there other buildings around, that we could make a break for, and possibly ambush them from?

    >>12204252
They have a military stalker with them, for what that's worth.

This is more than you bargained for, and you don't fancy your chances against a group of crack spetsnaz operators, "Break off! One by one!" you direct your fellows in a coordinated withdrawal, carefully playing aimed shots off of bursts to keep the enemy soldiers back. Easier said than done: these men are no simple bandits.

    Roll 2d20
    >> Anonymous 09/24/10(Fri)03:32 No.12204306
right now staying in this warehouse makes us dead men, spetsnaz are damn well trained and will clear this building and eliminate us amateur soldiers. What we ought to do is do an initial nade spam, try to single out the leading military stalker, during this, and pull back, head for anomalies, as only the military stalker probably has any local zone experience. wear them down in a running battle till they give up or die.

then loot all that delicious loot

Maybe it's your desperation, maybe it's simply that the squad sees you as nothing more than vultures to drive off: you're opening the distance. The spetsnaz are keeping to cover, making only occasional return fire; Bird even manages to tag one with a carefully-placed shot, but he takes it on his armor.

Though the spetsnaz certainly haven't taken you down, they're clearly still on top of the situation: calm, collected, returning fire and forcing you back just as much as you're actually retreating.

    All of that suddenly changes.

From a position to their left rear flank, you see what looks to be an oversized squad of bandits mount the gentle rise behind the spec-ops soldiers. Even from here they seem well-equipped; ballistic vests, rifles to a man; they're very familiar.

You don't have time to consider this then, though, because they're firing on you, too. You know an opening when you see it, and you break off completely, leaving the bandits and soldiers to continue the firefight you began with them. Better they get killed than you.

(That's it for tonight guys, thanks. I may hold a session tomorrow, but Saturday at 8 EST is more likely; I wanna avoid player (and GM) burnout; good rollan tonight, guys.)

Clarification: the 1d2 was for whether or not you were still there when the bandits arrived; at the rate things were going, you were definitely going to break contact (and the spetsnaz is probably after something ON the Hind) whether or not the third party got there in time to make things even more crazy.
