What have you manage to steal from GW /tg/?
I myself have only really managed a few paints and some boosters close to the door and behind a pillar although I did once get a landraider when the staff were really involved in a training talk.

I used to work in a toy factory once, mints are just simple hunks of machined out metal. We get a master piece from the contractor and make copies of it for ourselves.

Shoplifters are cowards by nature. They're among the lowest crooks in the crime ladder, and catching them is a waste of time when there are actual crimes being commited. Personally I'd rather have shop owners have extended legal rights to deal with them as they see fit, rather than have to bother to go there myself and see them shit themselves as they try to justify their actions. By far the shittiest aspect of the job right after domestic disputes.

I actually did this once when I worked at a hardware store (ACE Hardware, if you must know).

Guy went into our breakroom/office and grabbed reciepts and cash out of the store safe (which was, lol, unlocked and open because the owners were mouthbreathers) and tried to casually walk out.

I blocked the single door leading in and out, because I saw him rifling through the safe. He kept telling me to let him out or he'd push his way out. I told him to try it.

Long story short, he tried to press what amounted to imprisonment charges on me, I had him charged with assault. I paid a fine and did community service, he got petty larceny (we had just driven the cash box to the bank, thankfuly) and assault (for pushing past me by shouldering me out of the way) and is currently doing time for several other outstanding burglary/larceny charges.

So to rebut, it isn't legal to block someones path, per se, but the courts and police will give you a lot of leeway and lean to your side if you do it.

Unless he leaves marks nothing much will happen. Cops usually have a working relationship with security guards at stores, so they'll believe the guard in most cases. And if it's a big store then they'll probably have a cop working as a guard as a side job, so you won't really luck out there.

They can lock you in till the cops get there or restrain you, but most companies tell their guards just to let shoplifters get away since it reduces the liabilities they're responsible for. Store with a cop on the payroll though and you're pretty much fucked if they catch you.

The ACE I worked at had a home installed video system, and two locks in the entire store. ACE is a franchise, so the stores are all different, and generally very low tech on security.

The video system was five pinhole, midresolution cameras randomly placed around the store (fifteen aisles, and not a SINGLE FUCKING CAMERA LOOKING DOWN THE AISLES, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST), a set of barricade bars on the front door (that they never used and were fully manual), two deadbolts on the front door and a recessed lock on the loading bay curtain. The door on the loading bay had a charlie bar with bolts that could be slipped in to lock it down, but the bolts were rarely used, so a solid shoulder in the right place could knock the bar down.

The officer/breakroom had no lock on it (until just after the story I told above, when they then put a crappy schlage on it and a peep hole), and the power tool closet in the back had a simple MasterLock (which is funny, considering there was a set of power bolt cutters FIVE FEET AWAY, OUTSIDE THE FUCKING POWER TOOL CABINET).

They also had no alarm system, and the HDD that contained ALL the surveilance videos was in the loading bay, the one with the easily jimmied door, in plain sight.

    >>12275663
    >downloads, torrents, and pirates
It's not the same thing. The fact you don't realize this is absurd.

    1. Piracy doesn't remove anything from a reseller that would otherwise have been sold. Stealing does, and thus causes loss of profit.
    2. I almost only pirate things I would otherwise have not bought. Coupled with 1. this means no one loses any profit, AT ALL, from me pirating.
    3. Like stated above, I do pirate some things that I would otherwise buy. BUT, if I pirate it and I LIKE IT, then I buy it. If I don't like it, I don't buy it. This causes loss of profit for SOME companies, but only those who makes things not worth buying. This is a development I can morally stand behind as it introduces a much-needed natural selection to the market.
    4. When I pirate things I don't buy, I almost always talk about them to other people (if it's good enough). In the corporate world, word of mouth=profits. So basically, piracy cause profits for good companies. And bad companies can go fuck themselves. See above about natural selection.

Shop online, there are places where you can easily get 15-20% off the retail price. Buy a squad at a time, so the cost is spread around a bit, and you can more easily factor it into your budget. Only buy another unit when you've finished painting the current one. And, finally, there's nothing wrong with playing small games and collecting small armies. 1000 points shouldn't be too expensive, especially if you're playing Marines.

It's an expensive hobby to be sure, but there are ways of making it more affordable. I'm working for nearly minimum wage and I'm able to make things work.

I used to go to several shops, buy trifle shit and steal my ass off a little later. It works.

I ordered from Maelstrom about amonth ago.

By subscribing to their newsletter I found out they had 17% off.

This combined with their standard 10% and the weak pound I saved about 35-40% off RRP.

    Isn't shipping expensive though?

Shipping is included in the price.

Took me about 10 days to get the items and I live in Sweden.

Thanks for the advice. And I know that this is the best way to start getting into the hobby. When I said that I can't afford to I meant that I REALLY can't afford to. My current college student+jobless status is really hindering things. I could subtract from my smoking budget but that will never happen. So its kindof my own fault. But thanks for the help.

    >shoplifters attempting to defend themselves by saying GW are greedy assholes/untalented/whatever

Yeah that sure makes shoplifting respectable, doesn't it?

Not like the "I can't afford it, the company is evil, victimless crime, I'm a rebel" argument isn't used constantly on the internet.

Yes but the company in question isn't actually losing stock like in the case of shoplifting.

I don't work and I get 15 euros a week allowance by parents and I still have 600 points of Tau, 1300 points of CSM and several other random box set purchases and a full range of paints and brushes. The point is being smart, using gift offers for birthday/christmas on minis cause I really don't want anything else and creative use of junk.

I do agree the prices are fucking stupid and I honestly wouldn't mind if someone stole from a GW (I'm generally apathetic to everyone else's action as long as they don't affect me) but I would steal. Mainly because I'm super paranoid and afraid of getting caught. I'd steal if I was 110% sure I'd get away with it but i'd still feel bad about it despite GW is a total faggot to it's customers and fans, so I don't.
