The twins smile. "Yeah.""Our schola was on a forge world""in the Gothic Sector.""We were born off planet""but something happened to it""we were too young to remember""but its gone now."

The handed you the metal. "The different colors are from""different impurities in the metals." They picked up another piece, putting it in your other hand. ""The metals were mined from different locations""

The twins leaned closer. "Kind of a poor refining job though.""Agreed Carol."

They began mumbling to each other, examining various pieces, ignoring you.

You ask if the sisters know where the metals came from.

The look up at you, blinking as if they had forgotten you were there briefly. "Not without advanced analysis equipment.""And some extraction and slicing equipment."

You leave the girls to their analysis, your mind gently probing every person here. You sensed no heresy within any of them and, other some lewd thoughts eminating from one of the tech priests who still had the right half of his brain, they were all clean.

What are the other sisters in the area doing? If none of them seem interesting, try to talk to some of the mechanicus. They might be helpful in the long run. We should also contact our ship to see if there's any unusal tectonic activity on this planet( hoping there isn't another device but you can never be sure).

Filigree grabbed the sororitas sisters, pulling them in. "YOU TWO ARE HELPING!!!" If she were human, the excitement caused by the onslaught of information would have probably given her a stroke by now. Or maybe the thought of identical twins just excited her.

The sisters squeaked as they were dragged, into the circle of mechanicus. You were about to leave when your daemonette grabbed your arm. "I almost forgot! You left this in the device when you destroyed it." She handed you your force blade.

You take it from her, putting it back in its sheath. You scan the area, lighting up another cigar. You spot Tybalt near the medical tent, playing fetch with one of the Ebon Chalice seraphim, much to the amusement of the sisters around them.

The two canonesses were nearby, leaning against some rubble. They looked to be arguing over which weapon was better. The powerfist or the thunder hammer. You were a little worried that a fight might break out between them but you doubted anything would come of it.

The sisters around you were either chatting, sparring, or in prayer.

This device, Filigree, you said it could convert kinetic and thermal energy to punch holes in the materium? Are we able to tell how much energy is required to do this, or if there's any upper limit?
Carol, Coral, you said that this device was of lower quality material and made planetside-what does that mean in terms of production, reliability, etc.? Who would be capable of producing this? What else can you tell me about it in terms of composition?"

You pull the sisters free from Filigree's grasp, sitting down between to them. You take a deep breath, mumbling your remark about a Schola Progenium outing. The twins giggle a little, relaxing quite a bit.

Now that your closer you notice that they both have opposite running scars on their neck, from one corner of their jaw to the opposite side of their collar bone. Other than that, they are impossible to tell apart. You aren't even sure which is which right now.

You as them about their order. "As you know, Ebon Chalice is based on Terra and part of the Convent Prioris,""Founded by Saint Alicia Dominica." They laughed softly. ""Though a history lesson is not what you meant.""

"As we said, we were born on a forgeworld""and got moved to the schola some time later.""We wern't sure of the order we wanted to join at first""but that soon became clear when a cult attacked the schola."

They shifted uncomfortably. "We cannot remember which one of us it was.""Memories of intense emotion can blur with time.""But one of us was nearly killed when a cultist slit her throat""driving the other to kill the cultists in the room""Followed by attempted suicide.""

They cringed a bit at the look on your face. "We were young and new to battle.""I don't think I could live without my sister..."

    Warp falls, everyone dies.

Does our character even know the precise details of the infestation that tried to take over the sister's ship a few months ago? We had just sat down to talk to Tess and Verity when shit started blowing up and demons appeared. We've really had about zero time to interview people in a propper and through manner.

Now what the heck is going on with these warp devices. Yeah they slam into the ground for the heat and kinetic boost to their power needs, they weren't described as being equipped to burrough deeper and even if they were they'd still be still be limited by the capabilities of the device. (Hell if they went deep enough they'd just melt into slag without some good protection.)

"Presuming a device like this had access to unlimited enery reserves, would that have an effect on the size or intensity of the portal it could generate? And if so why not shove a few into a star and try to push the whole star system into the immaterium?"

(Esme can read minds and therefore intentions. She would have deduced that she was useful)

The sisters shrug. "Its just the way its always been done.""It's so only the best are allowed."

You call over Tybalt. He is frolicking and bounding around and through the legs of several sisters. One of them has a smashed shoulder plate, probably from the recent fight, and the other one had feathered hair instead of the normal sororitas bob. The dog flicked its ears up and began nudging them toward you, yipping and barking repeatedly in excitement.

You reeeeaaally hoped he wouldn't start humping any legs.

As the dog makes his way over, you ask about Florencia.

The twins think for a little bit, their eyes randomly drifting about. "She's served as a Canoness for eighty years, was it?""I think it's ninety.""You might be right...""She is often recruited by scholas to teach young girls aspiring to join the orders militant what its about.""Scare them out of it really...""She doesn't believe that those of weaker will should be a part of the sororitas."

The girls cringed a bit. "It would be better to stay on her good side.""I've never seen anyone poke fun at her like your Canoness is.""They must be total bros."

You glance at the two women. They are holding up their enormous weapons threateningly, yelling at each other, though you are too far away to hear what.

The girl with the feathered hair spoke up. "Hello Inqusitor. I'm Sonja, and this is Elizabeth." She gestured to the sister with the smashed pauldron.

"I'm afraid we can't talk very long. We were about to go over some drills when this guy showed up." She scratched Tybalt gently on the head. "Your timing is impeccable though. Verity has been asking for you." She nodded to the tent.

Elizabeth just gave you a small smile, eyeing Filigree cautiously.

"A combination of smoke inhalation and being struck in the neck damaged her voice." Sonja explained. "The medics told her to keep quiet while she recovered."

"Yeah... Can you do me a huge favor and *not* tell the ebon chalice sisters about Filigree's... uniqueness..."

They both cringed visibly, Elizabeth giving you a reluctant nod. They knew the repercussions of an action like that with a Canoness like Florencia so nearby.

She nodded. "Yes. I was hoping you could help me heal some of these patients. Esme and Tessa both are currently trying to help civilians out of the rubble. A medical ship was supposed to have arrived by now." She looked annoyed. "What could be keeping it? There are people dying here." She gently brushed back the man's hair, moving to stitch a deep gash in his forehead.

The hospitaller began deftly binding the man's arm in a makeshift splint. "You can start with anyone who has a red cloth or ribbon tied around their arm. They are bleeding internally, or have severe trauma that will kill them. Healing them fully would be a waste of energy. Just get them to a point where they won't die. Do not expend your energy, however, if they are already too far gone. I do not want to deal with perils of the warp in here. Then, if you feel up to it, move on to orange, yellow, and just ignore the white. When you get too tired, just try to make them as comfortable as possible"

Verity finished the splint and took a small length of yellow ribbon and tied it gently around the man's unbroken wrist.

Verity's expression turned serious. "The warp tendrils were a real nightmare. I had never seen anything like them before. Sister Anna was saved because we got her helmet off before the creature had fully burrowed into her skin. Thats why her face is so scarred. Once the helmet was off, Esme simply sliced it in half and stomped on the radios inside. That killed it."

Verity moved to a scrawny, whimpering man. He seemed to be missing several fingers and the bone in his leg was poking through his skin. Verity gave him an injection of painkiller. Immediately, he began to calm, closing his eyes and letting out his breath. She pulled a small gas tank off her belt, administering the anesthetic with a small rubber gas mask.

"Ugh... I wish we had a medical servitor. It would be able to do this so much faster than I could." She began work stopping the blood flow from his hand.

"The purity ritual really made me feel ill. My oath states I must work to prevent the deaths of those in service of the emperor and not to stand idly by when there is one in need...." She shook her head. "Nevertheless, I was too stunned when Esme stopped the ritual to really think anything at that point... She was like a beacon of light, the paint peeling from her armor, licked off by ethereal flames. It happened so fast I didn't really know what to think..."

She finished with his hand, taking a good look at his leg before resetting it with a crack that would have surely caused a scream had her patient not been sleeping.

You ask her if theres anything else significant she remembers about Esme, and what we should expect for the future.

Verity shakes her head, moving onto the next patient, sedating her and ripping her shirt open without a second thought, carefully extracting huge chunks of glass and shrapnel from her exposed torso. "Nothing that really makes her stand out. Other than her ascension of course." She places an especially nasty piece of twisted metal into a medical tray. "I'd imagine, though, that her perception of this world and the immaterium alike is very different from our own. She's a trustworthy and honest person."

She uses medical gel and sutures to close the deep lacerations, gently, running her hands over the girl's ribs and pressing on her stomach, searching for more debris. "You best remember that Inquisitor. She carries the torch of the Emperor into the unknown, and the sororitas will follow her in faith."

Verity hesitated, pressing on one point again before a scalpel slit out of her medical implant with a gentle metalic tone.

You bring up the warp portal machines.

Verity shrugs, pointing the scalpel at you. "Less talking, more healing!" She slowly begins her operation. "I'd imagine a traitor got on your ship. That pod was probably knocked out and then the device implanted some time later and its presence on the pod kept it in a state of disrepair. Knowing how devious hellspawn and filthy witchkin are, no offense meant, it was probably cloaked from the cog boys through some... sort of... psykic... means... Oh Emperor..."

With a grimace Verity gently closed the woman up, a bitter, decayed smell reaching your nose. Reluctantly, Verity extended a needle from her medical wrist mount, injecting the girl in the neck. She spasmed a moment later, flatlining.

"Shrapnel had torn through her stomach..." She whispered, looking just a bit shaken, moving onto her next patient.

Verity was about to answer when the cloth that served as the tent's door was flung aside. Filigree rushed in, tackling you to the ground. "I'VE GOT IT!!!" She was practically vibrating with excitement, which was probably not a good thing in her case, her disguise breaking enough to show her daemonic smile split her face in two.

"I know what it does... well mostly but..." She let out a low chuckle, her already impossible smile widening a fraction of an inch.

Filigree grinds her hips a little bit, biting her lip. "The device!" Her voice carrying a sing-song tone. "Its wired to dump way more power into a warp portal then its supposed to hold. This will force it to slowly expand, but it will also get fat, for lack of a better word." She licked her lips, reaching into your pocket and taking one of your cigars. She lit it, taking a deep drag.

You didn't think it was possible for Sister Verity to get more angry at this point.

"I'm surprised I didn't think of it sooner really. Sister Sabathiel did go to that planet to experiment with the concept of an over-saturated portal." She took another drag. "What would happen if the device had near infinite energy? Like if it burrowed into the planet's mantle? or core?" Her glittering black eyes fell on your face. "The entire planet would be engulfed by the warp portal, and that portal would stay open until the planet itself burned out... Think about it... Another tiny eye of terror." She cackled. "And that device is so easily and cheaply built! And with so much slave labor... PERMANENT warp portals! Everywhere! Thousands of them! Hundreds of thousands of them! All over the galaxy!"

The Garon Nebula is a part of Segmentum Tempestus, the most notable part of the nebula are the Hell Stars and it's here that the Crusade was fought. Little else other than the location of the Crusade is known, but it is often referred to as 'The ill fated Black Templar Crusade'. Why this is, is unknown. While investigating the crusade, Inquisitor Barzano wrote; "I saw the scene of a massacre where the dead lay on the ground in numbers like fallen leaves in a forest. The settlers had not died as soldiers die in the heat of battle, fired with ardor and courage, with weapons in their hands and exchanging blow for blow. They had died as the helpless must, with their hearts filled with horror worse than death itself."

We should also make use of the astropaths aboard and communicate the extent of this plot to the Inquisition. They can hopefully rush some forces into position and alert the Navy and Space Marine Chapters to be on the look out the suspicious drop ships.

They seem to be very technically inclined and might help if we should discover something about these devices. Given the current situation, I'd prefer not to induct them by inquisitorial authority. Furthermore, I'd personally ask for you to place Sisters Sonja and Elizabeth under my temporary command. I'm lacking proper troops, the inquisition didn't see fit to equip my ship with anything except guardsmen, and you know of their combat value without any kind of heavy armour. Galatea hesitated before nodding, going off to talk to Canoness Florencia. The two argued for a moment before she agreed.

Not a half hour later you were back on your ship with the device, the techpriests, Elizabeth, Sonja, Carol, Coral, Filigree, and Tybalt. The tech priests go off to store the device and you order Tybalt to bring the sisters onto the bridge.

You turn to Filigree. "Alright. Time to deal with you."

She smiles innocently. "Oh you know you love me.

You take her by the hand and lead her into an empty crew chamber. "This is where I want you to stay. I'll grab you something to do while your in here but I just need you to stay out of trouble."

She grinned, smacking you on the ass. "Qizzy, I am trouble! And besides, you'll want me around. If the Gellar fields fail i'll be able to tell where the daemons are coming from. If they're slaaneshi i can even tell them to go away."

If you really think you can be of assistance, though, I can have another room prepped right next to the bridge, to stash you in in case things go all Klybo. She is, of course not allowed to change anything. "Tell me when you've managed to get to the forms for the lasgun charge packs, I've heard you need to have 80% of your brain replaced by a logic-engine to even begin to understand the formula used to calculate how many you're allowed to request." Grin. "See, now you're close to me AND productive. You sure know how to please me... I'm sure the sisters are going to enjoy it as well." Ruffle her hair, and welcome the sisters to the bridge. You shrug. "Fair enough." And make your way back to the bridge, shoving her inside gently, your hand on her ass.

She meeped very softly, jumping forward into the bridge. You took her by the shoulders, steering her to a chair, kissing her on the cheek, ignoring her rapeface.

"Good look with that formula Filigree."

You approach the sisters and ask about the accommodations.

The twins shrug. "Is there a place where we can practice our drills?""It will give us something to do while we wait."

You give them directions to the training room and they nod, but do not go there yet.

You nod, turning to Elizabeth and giving her instructions to the medical wing of your ship, as well as a large dataslate that she could type out her thoughts on and display.

'Thank you.' She typed, smiling a bit before heading off to the medical wing.

The Canoness's voice came over the radio in your ship. "Keep your lines open but use minimal radio contact while in the warp. We will follow you Inquisitor. Radio in when you are ready and make the jump. Both Florencia and myself are prepared. Over."

The radio clicked off. Is there anything you would like to do or take care of before making the jump into warp space?

Let's have a chat with the captain(or whoever is in charge of commanding it when we're gone).
"I am sorry, but to the rather abrupt nature of my departure, I was unable to familiarise myself with the history of the ship and her captain, as is proper. Be so kind and tell me of her history in battles against chaos, her armaments, her crew and the soldiers she carries. I would pay her respect as required but you know, our time is limited. "

    Visit the ship's priest.
"(No idea what the proper title is), we are going to mount a operation against the forces of chaos in less than 5 hours. I know the servants of the Emperor do not like to see their duties hastened, but I need you and your congregation to bless as many of my men, and their equipment, as possible."

The captain frowns, leaning back and taking a puff from his pipe. "The Eagle's Talon has been in service for a long time Inquisitor. She's armed with mainly lascannons all around, and the hull itself is far thicker than most ships and it has a secondary hardened shield, sacrificing maneuverability for defense. As you can tell, she really isn't meant to enter direct combat. You saw all the fighters and bombers we have in the docking bay when you first boarded? We have seventeen more just like it as well as a bay full of cyclonic torpedos." He takes another puff. "She also has two backup Gellar fields in case the first one fails."

You thank the captain and leave him.

After asking the priests to bless your men and munitions, you request the tech priests inspect and bless the Gellar Fields as well as the exterior lascannons and munitions. The multitude of admechs agree, quickly scurrying off to do their jobs.

(Would have preferred something in first person but alright then. I'm in a good mood and full of sugary goodness :P)

You take your place on the bridge, radioing to the Canoness your next move before jumping to warp space.

Almost immediately you notice something wrong. The ship is pitching and vibrating badly, the hull letting out a soft groan as the immaterium presses down upon the Gellar Field. It seems to be holding just fine, but the rough, undulating energy pitched the flagship this way and that. You had to grip the railing tightly to keep from tumbling head over heels, Filigree and the rest of the people present on the bridge gripping seats or consoles to stay in place.

You can hear the reports around you. "This isn't good for the hull. Its getting strained in areas.""Gellar field holding for now.""Field at 83% power. Estimated time before failure is 2 hours."

You sensed the two Sisters' ships warp in behind you. Your radio almost immediately crackles to life. "Inqusitor! We can't stay here for long! Our Gellar field won't hold."

You look to Filigree. She's sitting rigid, her eyes glued to the window.

"I can feel my siblings out there. Mixed with other daemons, some of which I have never seen the likes of... They want to come in... They want to devour the ship and all aboard." She looked up at you, her eyes glinting. "Heh... This is exciting..."

you have plenty of time to reread. I have class very soon. also i'm a little sick so reading it would probably be better

You're a bit too... Jumpy? You went in and out of the thread so many times, the Hivemind probably has lost some of their number to f5-exhaustion or sleep. :P

Continue as planned. Grumble in the general direction of Saint Esme, but then quickly offer a prayer to the Throne of Terra for her protection. See if this bothers Filigree. Do it some more.

Go bother the tech-- On second thought, don't. Seethe in bridge and grumble about being unable to do anything, then seize the vox and start leading a Litany.

    +trollface+

since i have nothing else to do for an hour and a half...

The devices burrow into planets and turn them into perpetual warp portals. They are being made on backwater planets using mind controlled slaves.

*spoiler* Chaos doesn't use the worms to take over the universe because the mind controlled slaves suck at being cultists.

You just took off from the hiveworld after hearing a report that there were planets being taken over. You jumped to warp to get there faster. The warp is violent. Your gellar fields are slowly failing. Esme jumped overboard to deal with the warp-sharks.

You have 4 sisters on your ship. Two martyred lady (elizabeth and sonja) and two Ebon Chalice (Carol and Coral)

Filigree is starting to act all daemonettey and overly excited. She claims to hear what the daemons are saying

(i'm jumpy because i'm juggling this between homework and stuff and being sleepy half the time)

You huff, a little pissed that Esme was being so reckless... and that she was taking all the glory. Forcing your anger down, you offer a prayer to the emperor for her safety, cracking one eye to see if Filigree was at all bothered by this. It was clear she couldn't hear you over the noise of the hull and bridge, but she seemed a little uncomfortable. Perhaps she could feel it through her binding. You continue to pray, watching her calm down and even get a little depressed.

You end the prayer with an "Ave Imperator," your anger quickly returning at your helplessness. You grab the vox, not really caring that you were supposed to keep radio use to a minimum, and led the entire crew in a Litany of Triumph, grinning inwardly as Filigree squirmed, shooting you hateful looks.

You do this for some time before a sharp impact nearly knocks you over, the ship lisping heavily to one side. Several red warning lights start flashing, your daemonette slumping back in her chair, thankful that the litany had stopped.

"We've been hit by a huge wave of Warp energy on our port side! Our Gellar fields are down to 20%! We can't take another hit!" Another crew member spoke up. "We're getting reports from the Sisters' ships are in the same condition! Inquisitor! What should we do?"

You don't respond as you literally see the warp undulating toward you through the window of the bridge. A streak of silver and white snaps you out of your stupor as Esme slices cleanly through it, breaking the pulse before it hit the ship. She was flying at an amazing speed, her efforts buying you a few minutes. The ship shuddered again as another wave hit it, this one significantly weaker."

"We're down to 15% Inquisitor! We need orders!"

Disengage warp jump, return to realspace! We'll have to wait!

    Emperor dammit, where's Filigree?

(again, first person does help because it gives me a progression of events and how to prioritize them and it gives you finer control so that i dont misinterpret something specific. Also, forgive me if i jump the gun with this post a bit but I figure its time turn the awesome up to eleven.)

You punch up the console, connecting with both Florencia and Galatea. "We need to exit warp space. Get ready!"

Forencia nearly fell away from the communications screen as a huge blast rocked her ship. You could hear the sound of bolters in the background on her ship, red warning lights flashing everywhere. "It's about damn time!"

Galatea nodded. "We were about to call you Inquisitor." Her powerfist was drenched in blood.

    "What about Esme?" you ask.

Galatea is first to respond. "If she says go without her, that is what we must do. The warp will not take her."

You nod and a crew member looked up at you. "We're ready Inquisitor."

You nod, holding up your hand. "Alright warp out on my mark!" Both Canonesses nod, looking tense. "3... 2... 1... Mark!"

With a shriek like tearing metal, all three ships tumble back into real space. It took you a moment to reorient yourself, realizing you dropped your cigar. You look out the front window. You're fairly certain your heart skipped a beat.

The two Sisters' ships were there, and just beyond that was a massive craftworld, lights flickering all around it.

You were still wondering what they were when a massive brightlance blast seared the void several hundred feet from your port side, making you visibly flinch.

    Had they noticed...? No...

Upon closer inspection, you could see tiny shapes swarming about the craftworld. They were under attack.

"Inquisitor!" it was one of your acolytes. "There is a massive warp portal to our rear! Daemons are rushing out of-"

He didn't get to finish as a massive... thing rushed by your ship. It was a sickly brownish grey, its body irregular, almost blob like. It had a faint mother-of-perl sheen to it.

You were still staring after it when Filigree spoke up.

"What in the unholy name of the Great Serpent is that fucking thing!?"

You don't move for a moment, calmly taking out another cigar and lighting it, taking a long drag before speaking. "Are the engine's damaged?"

    "No."

    "Is hull integrity compromised?"

    "Well no but..."

    "Weapons online?"

"Yes but you're not seriously thinking-"

    "THEN FULL SPEED AHEAD!!!"

OOC: Anybody know what the FUCK that thing could be?

If no anons figure out what it is I saw we start with lance fire, it's a classic. It's probably moving too fast to target with macrocannons.
