    Hey, guess who?

Sorry to be so late in getting a chance to do this, my internet has been terrible as of late.

So anyway, would anyone like to hear more about this ongoing series of events? Last we left off, my dude was about to be taken to the gypsy mystic.

We real big bros we ride together we die together.

    ---

Well okay, so last time it ended with my crippled dude being picked up by a gypsy caravan and given shelter and such. They were confused about my guy though (a grievously inured invalid out in the middle of a forest road in nowhere), so brought in a German girl to help the conversation.

After learning this and that, it was resolved that I was to see the caravan's mystic/fortune teller. Which in an of itself isn't such a bad thing, if my guy wasn't a policeman who hunted and detained gypsies in the past.

    That's where it ended.

Pic related is how I imagined things would end up, as they're helping carry me out of the wagon, through the camp to the mystics wagon. The german girl tagged along understandably, although there were clearly other people who knew the language as well.

Anyway so they dump me in the mystics place, at whose request they guys leave. I call after the German girl and ask her to stay, maybe help translate or at least sympathies when things go to shit.

The mystic responds that he can speak well enough with me, and that I shouldn't have anything to worry about, before locking the door.

And I be all like "I'm fucked."

So pacing about the place and organizing this and that, the mystic asks me how my accommodations were, how I'm doing. I respond accordingly, he tells me we'll be nearing civilization in a day or two, or at least a town or city with a police station. This makes me nervous. I thank him for their hospitality for helping a cripple like me.

He then bridges off of that, asking what I was doing out in the wild like that, seeing as if it weren't for them I'd very actually be dead.

So as per /tg/'s suggestion, I come clean and start squealing my piggly black guts out. About how I'm actually a Police officer, and in my line of work I helped detain and capture suspects, many of them gypsies. I figure it's probably my own death warrant in revealing this, but I also make clear that I'm well done with all that, and chances are I'm not even a policeman anymore.

He says he knows all of that already. That I was the one who locked his nephew up.

So I'm like, "I guess I'm already dead then?"

He says not exactly, he was the one who got the others to stop and pick me up. Besides, his nephew was better off in jail rather than out free. He still wanted to know though, what I was doing out in the wild.

I figured if I was already being honest, and apparently he could read my mind or something, then I might as well keep on with the truth. So I told him of the situation, what happened with me and the Nun and that girl, what our business was before we decided to try and kill her, etc...

He seemed intent on learning more about that girl, I later learned that she ever since we separated, she had kept up in our duty of persecuting magic and such, in leaps and bounds. He knew who I was, but allot of them knew who she was.

For the record, this is lots of time spent RPing in the game, we spent nearly a whole game on the talking between my guy and the mystic.

Anyway so, I relate my story (not too much though, I realize that some of the stuff we did or saw might work against me), and come to learn that that girl is pretty disliked by those accused of sorcery (minorities mostly), guilty or not. The common people and the general populace love her, but there's at least a decent portion of people, however marginalized, that don't like her.

He relates that her intentions are good, but her actions and methods make her a dangerous element. For him, and his associates I assume, for someone like me who spent much time with her, I'm a valuable asset to them.

I have to ask, is Technology god tier to magic's shit tier in this setting? Whith the way everything has gone to help for you no matter what you've done, I can't help but think that - even if everything goes according to plan and you become Magi-Batman - at the last minute she'll pull out some doodad and be all like, "try out the latest clockwork etheric nullifyer," and antimagic field your ass.

So I make clear that we're on the same page, that I'm looking to make right her wrongs somehow. He says my physical condition should be proof enough. So for the remainder of the trip, between simply recovering and spending time with the gypsies, I relate information to the mystic who informs me of how this will prove useful when he reports to the more prominent gypsy leaders.

Eventually we reach a decent sized town, one where I can get a wheelchair finally, and also there's a police station. I'm not sure if it will do much good though because I didn't have my badge. As well, I ask them and the mystic if that's it then, we're cool. I tell them I still wish to help out, and after much deliberation, they inform me that every so often I'll be contacted by liaisons, and that if I feel so inclined to actually participate in "the conflict", then I am welcome to join them in what I assume to be taking the fight to someone. I am told though, as an important note, that they only begrudgingly agreed to this by the opinion of the mystic, and were it not for him I'd be dead and gone. As well, if I so feel inclined to try and meet again or see to it about joining them, I should stay away from anything having to do with more prominent gypsy leaders; they will not be so forgiving as the mystic, despite my help.

Frankly I'm just glad to be alive. My first day back in society as a cripple, after nearly dying multiple times, and already I've got a plot hook. At least not everything is bad.

Re-stating my opinion: Your character will be beset by chance to upgrade, just like what happened to the girl's character...

You know, why don't give us your in-game names? Easier to put than your character, your PC, that girl's character, etc.

Anyway, your DMs will jump to the chance to give you the means to upgrade at each of your solo games. And also, looking at your prior threads, I suppose you will be taking the revenge way, is it? Since I was advocating an entire different way...

Well, good luck, and have fun, I guess.

    It all depends really.

Magic is very uncommon, and in most instances yes, the common tech of the day will simply outperform it. However in the instances of actual truly powerful magic, then no, the magic would be able to best technology. Also in allot of cases, the magic of the natural world is unaffected by technology.

However that said, actual Nemo tech trumps most everything, it's that advanced. I.E. whereas common tech is things like machinery and gears and industry and the like, Nemo tech is like you said, things like nullifiers and shit like that.

I'm not sure what I'll do with the game yet, things are still just getting me back on my feet, figuratively speaking.

You're right though, while I do intend to seek revenge (I just think it'll make it more interesting for the other players in the long run, I'm not just playing against that girl), it's wholly up in the air how I go about. Some people suggested destroying her and everything she loves, other people suggested simply getting out the truth about her and leaving it at that, let her ruin herself. And yet other people simply suggested making a reputation for myself, getting rich or working with prominent other historical figures, and combating not her, but her achievements.

I could totally go with any which way at the moment, I'm not all about the gung-ho guns blazing kill her and parade her body about amidst the ashes of a war-torn world. I could totally go the non-aggressive route.

In game my guys name is Markus, her name is Illora.

Anyway, so we part ways, and I report down to the local police, pretty much a laughingstock when I get in there. After much hassle, trouble, and deliberation though I'm able to establish who I am (at least to the head officer), and see about getting back to the capitol to get reinstated in my rank. He organizes for me to have a spot on some messenger route which will get me to a train line and fast travel back. Which is perfect, so I just hang around for a few days until some people are traveling the route, helping out and doing odd jobs around town for the police, and helping to solve a crime or two. For the few who recognize me, it's nice to know not everyone in the world has abandoned you, and a few even look up to you.

Well you're right that they're mostly removed from world affairs (from what we know, they're having their own troubles out in the Pacific), but because of that, it's entirely possible that miss backstabber could not only establish relations with them and obtain items and tech, but actually join them as well. The same option is afforded to everyone's characters.

However for some reason I am unaware of, miss backstabber is working towards opposing Nemo and the others, which IMO is a very stupid thing to do. It's true they're causing most of the chaos in the world right now, but they bring with them untold promise. If she wants to reject them he can, but she's probably hurting herself in the long run in doing so.

Of course most of the people share her views and agree with her that they're dangerous and should be shunned, but that doesn't stop the progress they bring.

If she can end up wielding nemo tech, so can you. On the not too-unlikely chance that the nemo gang is looking to create a war, they'd probably be willing to tolerate your counter effort to the girl's attempts to bring peace (assuming you select that route). My personal advice to you is to seek to defeat her. Not anything else, not the countries, not to start a war, but just to defeat her, one on one. Even-handed vengeance for your lost comrades, for the Nun who she killed in cold blood, by whatever means necessary - but nothing more.

That's down the road though. Tell me - I know you fought a lich earlier. How did that go?

Anyway so after a few days, I about a week of traveling I got back to the Capitol, and saw about getting my position back. It was impossible at first, but getting ahold of my friends in high places, I was able to get my job back, although at severely stunted capabilities.

Currently I'm supposed to be seeing people all this week to suss out my failure and whether or not I really deserve to be back on duty. At the moment it's just investigative work I'm allowed, but I figure it's a start.

As some people suggested already, this give me a chance to open the book again, on the formal ball event where Miss Backstabber caused the second near-TPK as well as murdering the foreign Prince.

Fighting the lich was pretty crazy, it started out as reports of people seeing previously deceased family members walking around again.

So we get there and digging deeper and deeper into things we get ourselves in some crazy shit and nearly die.

I say nearly, because that was the situation where Miss Backstabber took the hit to save us. We made it out fine, miraculously (we should very probably have died), but as anyone who knows the story knows, she was horrifically maimed in the process.

Your job involves interfacing with magic users. They are, after all, part of who you are hunting. Discretely keeping them out of harms way could earn you some trust.

Furthermore, those that you have caught may have occult materials. Be sure to catalog them very thoroughly, if you know what I mean.

Well actually because of my current situation (physical state, reputation), I'm suspended from special officer duties (hunting magic users, natural anomalies, creatures and the like), and am constrained to investigating simple reports and criminal offenses.

Despite not entailing the tracking of a werewolf, or finding out about reports of satanic cults, this common police work is actually a nice break from the craziness. Currently I'm dealing with a property damage case and a public indecency case.

That said though, while I'm limited to this work, it doesn't mean I can't move about and do things, or open old investigations or start new ones.

Which is why I'm wondering what to do. I don't think I can look into the formal ball case again yet, but things like seeing about Miss Backstabber's business dealings, or how she got her cybernetics and from who, things like that.

Also at some point in the near future I want my guy to visit his mother and sister, to explain things. It's been awhile since he's seen them, and they don't know about his current state.

No, although they could probably introduce me to someone or something capable of such a feat.

However there's the double obstacle of the gypsies still mistrusting/angry towards me despite our working together, as well as the notion of how to hide something like magic regeneration of my health from other within my place of work and just the Capitol general.

I do believe it's probably an option though, regardless of how viable at the moment it actually is.

Let me tell you the tale of Inquisitor Sand de Glokta, a character from a series of books called the First Law.

He was raised a noble, handsome lad full of power and will, an excellent swordfighter and an arrogant brat. He joined the military and was one of the proud knights who led the charge against a nation that represents the Persian Empire perfectly.

The charge failed and the broken body of Glokta was dragged off of the field by his captors. He was crippled and tortured until he broke and then he was crippled and tortured some more, before being left to starve. Before he starves to death, the garrison is captured by his countrymen and he is released.

He does not miraculously get cured. His strength does not suddenly return to him after the years. If anything, his ruined, broken body decays further and this once-handsome twenty-something captain is turned into someone as physically incapable as your oldest relative.

Does he give up on life? Fuck no. He becomes more ruthless and determined as ever. His brutal nature causes this crippled torturer to shoot up the ranks of his nation's inquisition, becoming one of the most feared men in the country, despite being as physically imposing as your grandfather.

This is what you need to do. You do not need to become a combat god, although being handy with a weapon will always help. What you should focus on is building an empire of contacts, assistants, allies. Build a social network across the entire empire. People who fear and respect you and will do as you desire.

And when your nemesis finally hunts you down and mocks you for not being able to fight back, that is when you take out a pistol you've kept hidden beneath your ass all this time and practicing with and fire it straight between her fucking eyes.

Still no reason can't talk with your old buddies from your former office. I would assume you had some friends there, after all. Just make quiet conversation, and pass along anything big and relevant to your gypsy pals.

Look into what you can, but don't make any overt moves. Nothing she'll notice. Do accept any chance you get to look into matters involving magic - that was your former job, after all - you're just eager to get back to work.

In any case, just take it slow for now. Build back that reputation.

What did you tell the police about how you ended up this way?

The solution is simple: find Wasteland Warrior and work with him in tremendous depth towards a solution.

Seriously. This is the type of situation of which the man has become a minor deity. I haven't seen him around these parts in quite some time and last I remember he had let his /tg/ celebrity status get to his head and become an insufferable blowhard, or maybe died of alcohol poisoning, but still, the guy was but here on earth to solve these problems. Find him.

She's got lots of land holdings and businesses/enterprises in Prussia, as well as having been a Duchess, and *is* an acting member of Spain's royalty, having some land there.

In general she's at least got some land all over though.

That's on top of the 5 cybernetic enhancements she has, that I know of from our encounters and time spent with her. That's 5 at least, possibly more, when it's extremely, extremely difficult to even go about looking into getting one.

    She's pretty well off.

    Rape.
    ...
No, seriously, the GM let her become royalty by raping a royal dude (that OP was trying to protect) then MURDERING HIM.

Someone that does shit like that would have to many enemies to be alive. Period.

The GM isn't enforcing natural consequences for preternatural malice.

I discussed it in the first thread, they allowed it as she came in during the brink of war offering a solution to their problems. They just accepted her and the child, figuring they could sort things out later when things calm down.

Except that, she's brought a large influx of trade and wealth, greatly improved relations and social standards. An added bonus that she's never really around, when they expected her to be wanting all sorts of privileges. She just stuck around to have the child, took care of it for a few months, then just jetted, leaving both the child, and all the improvements she brought with her.

Again this is only my limited understanding of it, tl;dr it's like Bill Gates married into royalty for the title, but never really did anything else. Except that she was also a Duchess beforehand, if that matters.

I know. that's not what I mean. There was some posts in another thread about how there's no fucking way the conservative establishment would accept that bitch. I was wondering if OP ever talked it up with his GM.

Then again I suppose the GMs are rotating, and lolfantasy.

I know you don't want to make a deal the devil, but what about other supernatural beasts? Are there fey in your world? I am certain you could make a deal with them to learn magic faster. If only there was a massive incident that you could start to beat back the feys natural enemy, civilization.

Although my plan will affect his country, I am not suggesting he start a fey army. My idea is him to promise to start WWI to get fey magic. Bind a bat spirit to his body to replace his missing arm and legs. Become bat man, and then teach the whole damn world to fear the forests again.

Sup, Officer, Anon who first suggested that you start Magical WWI last thread here.

One goal you should work towards right now is setting up a escape plan. You coming back to work is going to make waves no matter what you do. Sooner or later That Girl will find out that you survived and send someone to take care of you.
You should make sure to disappear long before that. Tell nobody where you're going.
Or even better, take a single person into your confidence and tell him or her where you're going. Make them swear on their mother's immortal soul that they will tell absolutely no one.
    Then go somewhere else.

I'm not saying you should drop everything and vamoose, but it's a short-/middle-term goal you should definitively work towards.

    >evenso Depart

Hmmm yes, that's an idea other people have said. I figure once I do enough work that they let me have relative free reign again, OR I can somehow get walking and moving again, then I'll vacate my place of work.

    Good.
Also, hold on to your wheelchair for as long as possible. Let nobody know when you fix your spine.
Same goes for your arm, too. If I were you, I would go for something both detachable and magical.

You should avoid any conflict with That Girl at any cost. However, if she somehow manages to corner you, having her believe that you're a frail cripple should give you an advantage.
    >> Disarmed Policeman Anonymous 10/20/10(Wed)16:36 No.12514551
    >>12514500

Well I think she's more or less done with me. I mean she's powerful now, both physically and politically/economically, as well as having her own adventuring party.

Unless I actively seek her out or start to oppose her, I can't imagine why she'd actually take time out to see me, even if she knew I was alive.

I like the idea of acting a cripple if ever I see her though.

If she's done with you, that's a good thing for you.
The picture you have painted for us indicates that she will probably wreck your shit, even if you caught her all alone.

You should start already now to play up the whole crippled thing.
Constantly complain about the cold. Hire a maid to wheel you around. Secretly colour your hair and beard grey-ish to make it seem like you're ageing prematurely. Make it seem like you're completely defeated.
Then, when it's go time; "Surprise, bitch! I am die Ubermensch!"

I still think that you shouldn't replace your arm. You probably need to get walking again, but leave some sign that the damage she did to you is still there. Hiding it or fixing it or otherwise negating it shows that you've become at least somewhat like her, which would be some kind of victory for her.
    >> Anonymous 10/20/10(Wed)17:01 No.12514838
    >>12514738
That's debatable. Winning a moral victory is one thing, but the thing about those is that they're usually claimed by the loser.
OP will probably need every advantage he can get if he wants to win.
