Well not right now it isn't.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see if the GM gets back and makes another thread.

    So...uh, plane's discussion?

Why the hell do my picture uploads keep failing?

Anyway, re-posting some of the options given by the Planes Quest GM:

    Company Profiles:

    Advantage Flight Solutions
    HQ: UAE
    Budget: Large
    Access: Global
    ROE: Restrictive
Advantage is a big name player, and is traded on the stock markets. Top flight benefits make it appealing, but expect HR to talk your ear off about 'unacceptable casualties'

    Showtime Flight Services
    HQ: Australia
    Budget: Moderate
    Access: European Defense
    ROE: Moderate
Showtime is the brainchild of Harold "Hog" Blackburn, a former RAAF pilot. You won't be asked to do anything morally reprehensible, and the parties are great, but the paycheque isn't great.

    Executive Outcomes
    HQ: Capetown, SA
    Budget: Limited
    Access: Former Soviet Bloc
    ROE: What Hospital?
Executive Outcomes does the jobs no one else will take. Calling their aircraft flightworthy is a stretch, but you're only required to get the job done, no strings attached.

    Air America
    HQ: Virginia, USA
    Access: American Defense
    Budget: Excessive, suspiciously so
    ROE: Variable
This sleek and all American operation works 24/7 to make the world a safer place for Americans. You get paid handsomely, but the moneypot almost seems too full.

Budget: A case of Vodka and a two for one Frozen yogurt coupon.
    ROE: Liberal
    Access: Soviet Bloc

    Achmed's Discount Air Service
HQ: A cave, well furnished with rugs and betamax!
Access: We offer the ENTIRE range of fighter combat aircraft from Cessna and Piper! For you, I make special price!
Budget: Two Camels and my third wife, but no more, you are bleeding me dry, how do I feed my children! What? Fine, Three Camels, my third wife and this watch, but that is my last offer! What? No! How dare you accuse me of cheating you, FOLEX is quality brand name watch!

Remembering the reception P&M has had from it's conception, though, I think you just might be shit outta' luck. Mission Contract #1
    Location Colombia

    Threat level: Low-Moderate

    Mission Contract #2
    Location: Taiwan
Description: The ROC is offering a coastal patrol contract to protect their surface interdiction ships working to stop human trafficking.
    Threat Level: Low

Steve was the GM of the original Planes & Mercs Campaign. A damn good one at that. Known for some pretty awesome scenarios.

Steve was the GM for the original Planes and Mercs campaign. His attention to detail and convoluted plotlines caused tg to come to the conclusion that Steve was secretly running CIA or some other national intelligence agency's (most likely Canadian Security Intelligence Agency) wargames, using his players to simulate certain case scenarios.

Personally I'm throwing in my vote for #3.

My character would be quite familiar with both the J-7 (Pakistani Air Force) and the MiG-29 (Indian Air Force). It might give him an edge in this scenario.

Hard As Iron - Judas Priest
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
    Radar Rider - Jerry Riggs
Holy Diver - Dio (I can't believe I nearly forgot this song existed.)
Highway to the Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins (Naturally)
    SWAT Kats Season 2 Theme
How Far to Paradise (Version 2) - Derek Jackson
    The A-Team Theme (Full Version)
I'm On A Boat - The Lonely Island ft. T-Pain (For carrier-based missions)

That general era of aircraft, yes. That is based on your starting company, and your funds. There are other aircraft from the region/time period that you could choose as well, I tossed those planes up as a guideline/list to make things easier to pick.
    >> Sajjad "Prophet" Azam 12/03/10(Fri)10:55 No.13014640

But I am seriously nervous with the possibility of MiG-29s.

Also, how much would a drop tank cost?

    >> Planes and Mercs Quest !kgQGhGof.. 12/03/10(Fri)11:01 No.13014686
Based on funds, you have access to most munitions up to the end of the Vietnam era available to you. For the time being you can probably only mount western munitions until you get some cash under your belt to get universal hardpoints. Try to stick with a load out that your aircraft would have actually had (Magics for the Mirages, etc)

I'm not too picky, just don't put eleventy billion missiles on your aircraft, keep it realistic, in the spirit of planes and mercs.

As to drop tanks, you won't require them this time.

Allright listen up, this isn't an easy one, but I like your pluck and I think you lot are gonna give the Burmese a black fuckin eye followed by a swift kick to the gentlemen's berries.
So here's the situation, Amnesty has hired a group of ex-paras to run a snatch and grab on a Burmese prison camp located roughly near Hpasmng. Bloody hard to fly in that area, almost as hard as it is to say it. Looking at some mountains, valleys, rivers, and a whole lot of tree coverage.
Now, the Burmese aren't expecting this, and the paras have unit pre-positioned, but the moment those Frelons come a knockin, all hell is going to come loose. That's where you come in. You will be in communication with the paras. You keep the local militia at bay, and protect the Frelons until they are back in Thai airspace. No fancy heroics on this one, in out, beers in the mess hall. Got it? Questions?

By the way, since Gato gave us permission, are we gonna be using him as an NPC on this mission?

In which case here's the potential armament for his plane:

4× under-wing pylon stations & 1× internal rotating bomb bay with a capacity of 12,000 lb (5,400 kg) and provisions to carry combinations of:
Rockets: 4× Matra rocket pods with 18× SNEB 68 mm rockets each
    Missiles: 2× AIM-9 Sidewinders for self-defence, 2× AS-30Ls or 2× AS-37 Martel missiles or 2× Sea Eagle missile
Bombs: Various unguided bombs, Laser-guided bombs, as well as the Red Beard or WE.177 tactical nuclear bombs[9]
Other: AN/ALQ-101 ECM protection pod,AN/AVQ-23 Pave Spike Laser designator pod, Buddy refuelling pack or Drop tanks for extended range/loitering time

I think we ought to equip him with the two Sidewinders and then give him all rockets or a mix of rockets and dumb bombs.

ROE are standard fare, do not fire unless fired upon, or if directed to fire by friendly ground units. An exception is that threats to the Frelons may be preemptively engaged should they constitute a clear and present danger to the operation.
We have not identified any anti-air but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Information on the region is poor at best. Fighter support will likely be slow in coming, if the cross border raid occurs with enough rapidity you should be in and out before their fighter units go wheels up. Patrolling aircraft are a different matter though.
(Chiang Mai Airfield. Your aircraft have been pre-positioned)
Correct, you will be in radio contact, page six of your document lists frequencies, go-codes, and encryption. As to where the militia may come from, we won't know until they show up.

I propose that if we're called in for air support Gato ought to lead and ground strikes with Lofty taking up the rear to clean up.

With regard to the Op, me and Jackpot will be flying a bit high for overwatch, naturally. We'll circle the area and look out for any incoming air threats.

By the way, I presume the paras will be ex-filtrating by land. Is that right, Harold? Will we need to escort them back to Thailand?

Maybe, MAYBE we might have to send Flapjack to flatten a building or two.

What planes are you guys hoping to get eventually?

I was hoping to eventually get a Desert Falcon (>>13012601) for Prophet (a big part of why I wanted to go for Advantage Flight Solutions originally).

However, if we'll be sticking with European aircraft I suppose I'll be aiming for Eurofighter, the Rafale, or the Gripen.

We probably need to do a bit of research on the EW capabilities of the Rafale vis-a-vis other possible aircraft.

For that matter, we need to do some research on EW aircraft from Europe, period. The only ones I know of for that job are American.
    >> Jack "Flapjack" Morrison 12/03/10(Fri)14:59 No.13016713
Thinking of the EW-variant of the Hornet that Baron piloted in the original Planes and Mercs?
    >> Sajjad "Prophet" Azam 12/03/10(Fri)15:07 No.13016775
Well there's THAT, the F-111, the A-6 and now that I think of it the F-16 Block 60 that I want to get.

Come to think of it, I don't even know any Eastern Block aircraft that are EW speced.

I need to do more research...

If you're thinking of learning more air-to-air I can suggest a relatively cheap and available plane to train on.

From there you can probably move on to any number of strike platforms.
    >> Anonymous 12/03/10(Fri)15:11 No.13016796

I dimmly recall from my childhood that there was some variant of the SU-24 that was set up as a EW Bird, but I don't know if that was just made up for Flight Commander 2 or if its real.

    >> Sajjad "Prophet" Azam 12/03/10(Fri)15:25 No.13016896
    OH, I know!

Dedicated ground attack platform will all this:

    * Guns: 2× 30 mm (1.18 in) ADEN cannons or DEFA cannons, 150 rounds/gun
    * Hardpoints: 5 total: 4× under-wing and 1× center-line pylon stations with a capacity of 10,000 lb (4,500 kg) and provisions to carry combinations of:
o Rockets: 8× Matra rocket pods with 18× SNEB 68 mm rockets each
    o Missiles: Anglo-French AS-37 Martel missiles
    o Bombs: various
o Other: AN/ALQ-101 ECM protection pod (found only on RAF's Jaguar GR.3/3A),[15] Joint Reconnaissance Pod, external drop tanks for extended range/loitering time
    * Missiles: 2× AIM-9 Sidewinders or Matra R550 Magics on overwing pylons (Jaguar International and RAF Jaguars only)
    >> Anonymous 12/03/10(Fri)15:26 No.13016909
Europe doesn't prioritize tactical-size EW aircraft. Heck, the U.S.A. is actually pretty unique in that they deploy EW air assets at both the strategic (AWACS) and tactical level (individual EW craft).

Most other nations don't have the military budgets for it, and if they do, the money goes into strategic level aircraft first.

Also, a mission from AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL? So that's where my donation money is going!
    >> Sajjad "Prophet" Azam 12/03/10(Fri)15:30 No.13016941

Also, for the air-to-air specialists, you may want to consider the English Electric Lightning. Excellent performance for it's age (first introduced 1959) and definitely one of the best aircraft of it's time.

True, but I was thinking about this:

    Showtime Flight Services
    HQ: Australia
    Budget: Moderate
    Access: European Defense
    ROE: Moderate
Showtime is the brainchild of Harold "Hog" Blackburn, a former RAAF pilot. You won't be asked to do anything morally reprehensible, and the parties are great, but the paycheque isn't great.

    >Access: European Defense

I'm not sure if that's just for the beginning, or if it'll be strictly European for us.

I was considering that, but I was concerned about its supposed short flight duration.
    >> Sajjad "Prophet" Azam 12/03/10(Fri)15:48 No.13017039
Also, I have a model of the Lightning reserved.

I was planning on getting it after I started building my Mirage IIIC.

Now that I think about it, the more appropriate the callsign I took is.
    >> Anonymous 12/03/10(Fri)15:50 No.13017054
Hm. If you really want to bend the rules a bit, you can justify getting one by saying you got it when Germany was selling off the former East German air force.
    >> Anonymous 12/03/10(Fri)15:57 No.13017108
Oh, also, it depends on what you want from an "EW" aircraft. Most tactical level EW aircraft, like the Tornado ECR, are geared for SEAD, which is essentially playing playing chicken with SAM sites...

Early SEAD aircraft literally just were bait - they'd run active while everyone else in the flight packed radar-tracking missiles, and would try to bait the SAM site into launching so their buddies could take it out. Then they'd pray they didn't get hit.

More modern SEAD aircraft can cheat a little with jamming and other forms of electronic interdiction of course. Dedicated electronic attack platforms are still rare though and only available to air forces that have big budgets because the mission is so specialized. The EA-18G Growler is pretty much the only currently serving fighter that has a mission role completely oriented for electronic attack (jamming everything).

Since you're here OP, I'd just like to clarify something:

Gato gave us permission to use his as an NPC on this mission, but he did so AFTER the roll call and in them middle of mission planning, but before the briefing.

I assumed that his character would be in on this mission when we started it, but upon reviewing the maps, it seems that only the four of us who came earlier are represented. (I blame my missing this on the fact that, at the time, it was 3:00 am for me.)

So, will we be able to use Gato-bot, or should we re-adjust to our play strategy to make the correction?
    >> Jack "Flapjack" Morrison 12/04/10(Sat)10:39 No.13026214

Gato-bot is a bit ambigious right now. We ought to wait until 22:00, Lofty will likely show up by then.

Also there's the fact that this thread is close to auto-saging. The GM will likely have to start a new thread for the continuation of this mission.
